Like the other reviews that mention being forced to check the bag in an unlocked cubby st the front of the store is very unsettling, and unprofessional. This is very unprofessional conduct to simply treat every potential customer as a criminal. You don't provide a locker or any alternative to not agreeing to leave my bag in an unsecured cubby right at entrance. What if someone came in and grabbed my bag and ran off? When I tell you that I don't carry a purse and this is my purse that contains my wallet, my medication (I carry an epi pen) documents that contain my personal information and I'm actually injured so I CANNOT CARRY A PURSE YET ALONE A BAG without assistance. Please believe me. But the fact you were adamant about it without a secure way to do so, I don't think so! I've encountered this situation in Honolulu at Don Quijote. When I explained my situation, they said it's fine but to come back to the counter and show them the inside of my bag. It's fine, I'd be okay with that. So screw you for automatically treating me that I'm not trustworthy. I've worked customer service for over 20 years and I would treat my customers like this. This is also part and parcel of being in retail business which your insurance should cover. I get it, you're trying to reduce SHRINK. But don't treat every person who walks in the door with a small backpack as a would be criminal. This is unacceptable. Good riddance. I hope you guys go out of business if you keep treating people like that. Then you should not be in this business then. This is no way to run business. Would you compensate all of my documents, the cost of my expensive Japanese backpack? I travel a lot internationally so I have multiple currencies along with my passport which I would need as a rush done. I doubt you would. So stay away. I would not recommend coming here. Unless you enjoy being treated like a crook.

I cannot believe it's taken me 6 years of living in the area before discovering this place! Thank goodness for Google Places, because I would've never set foot into this store due to its deceptive store front, which looks so tiny from the outside, you'd assume that it doesn't carry much! After stepping in, you realize that it's actually "2 stores wide" (they must've renovated a previous store next door to turn it into 1 big store). Confirming other's reviews -- they have just about every gadget you could want/need! Tools, shelves, felt "furniture feet" pads, screws for wall anchors/inserts, hooks, picture hangers, cleaning products, home organization furniture, even patio and gardening supplies! Prices are very reasonable, considering they have to pay their staff, who provide excellent customer service. They all come up to you and are so willing to help you to answer any question, big or small. They definitely have differing expertise, so if you don't get a good answer from one of them, find another staff or two to ask. Eduardo and Paul turned out to be real gems and are super knowledgable, which really helped me to zero in on what I was looking for. Even though I have a car, it saves me time from going to Home Depot or another big box chain. It's also always good to #supportlocal also.

Unfortunately, just had the worst customer service experience at the store today. I shop there regularly and it was always pleasant to be at this location. We were buying some plant supplies and Alex helped us with great customer service. However, when we were paying, the cashier was extremely rude and wanted to charge us for something that was supposed to be included, but we got the wrong SKU. She only stated the problem a couple of times, and blamed Alex for getting the wrong piece, which was not a problem, as we could easily exchange. She did not give us a solution and simply said that would give us 10% off on something that she did not want to correct. I did not get her name, but she was the cashier on September 16th at around 12:30pm. Again, exchanging the piece and getting the correct one was never a problem to me, I actually went back and got what I thought it was correct. But, blaming Alex because he is a new employee, it is just ridiculous. I hope alex does not get the blame because of an impolite employee.

I did enjoy shopping at this location, and that it was a small local business (not a big box store). Throughout this pandemic I have visited a few times for items, and on all occasions have witnessed staff blatantly ignoring public health guidelines. In my last visit I witnessed three occasions of people not wearing masks correctly, or at all (one was a customer who was not asked to wear their mask properly over their nose; and TWO were staff members who removed their masks completely to chat amongst each other at the registers). All in one visit. They simply don’t seem to care or understand the requirements, and management is not enforcing them. I also contacted them via their website to let them know (and possibly see how they would rectify the situation) however I never heard back. So I guess they just have complete disregard for the requirements and safety of our community. I hope they smarten up, however I will not be visiting any longer as I do not feel safe there.

Had a horrible experience with Aayne, I believe his name was. His man told me to leave my bag at the front and told me he was going to watch it. When I finished my shopping I noticed that there was no one watching my bag or the other bags. I could have easily taken all the bags and walked right out since it was at the very front of the store. No one would have noticed. I tell Aayane (the employee) that no one was watching my bag he tells me “it’s a plastic bag no one’s going to steal it”. That’s not the point. I trusted this man with my person belongings and he didn’t watch them. He also told me “to not come on it I don’t like it” and was extremely rude to me. I’ll make sure to follow up with head office, because if this their version of “good customer service” I won’t be coming in again.

I’m conflicted about this Home Hardware. It’s very helpful and convenient to have a downtown spot to buy many of the hardware items they sell, and it is well stocked for it’s size. It is often more expensive but is perhaps to be expected due to location. I have been able to find a couple items that were not stocked in other local stores at the time (e.g. rare earth magnets). The employees are friendly and helpful. I would caution folks to carefully check prices, as more than once the tag on the item was lower than the price at the cash. Additionally, the return policy is 15 days and charges a 15% restocking fee. I would not buy anything here that I wasn’t sure I needed or would work for me, as the return premium on top of the sometimes more expensive prices would be a bit much.

  • Engin öztürk

I think they are overall a good company but I ordered a special type of glue online, and when it arrived it looked expired to me, and it has only one or two years shelf life. I took it to home anyway and tried a tiny bit, and I still saw it has solidified particles in it. Now they rejected my return because I tried it, which makes sense other than I claim it is expired anyway. But the glue's serial number was erased when I bought it so I have no way to prove it is expired. I would expect a company to be more customer centric because I still think it is expired. If you recognize an expired item, just don't try it, return right away. I will buy from somewhere else next time, I think in my case they sold me a product that ended its shelf life.

  • Melissa Bergeron

The staff here are warm, welcoming and fully capable of answering your questions. I used to trek out to bigger box stores but swung by here instead and the selection for what I was looking for was bigger than other hardware stores (shelf brackets). I could overhear multiple staff members helping with other customer questions in a way no team member at Canadian tire could answer. This location feels like a warm hug, friendly and efficient service. Highly recommend checking here before checking bigger store! I’ve actually called in the past inquiring about a plant product and the woman I spoke with was very knowledgeable and helped me sort out a pest concern all over the phone, they should consider a hot line!

  • Meaghan Efford

I called earlier today to place an order over the phone so that I didn't have to shop in the store while self isolating, and the woman who answered was incredibly rude and exasperated. She kept sighing and saying that I should just come into the store. It was very clearly an inconvenience for me to call and ask to order considering that not everything in store is listed online, like seeds. I worked in customer service for seven years and not once did I treat a customer like that, nor did any of my coworkers, regardless of how bad a day we were having. This makes me not want to shop there, which is a shame because I live so close to the Davie St. location and before isolating it was really convenient.

  • Soud Al-Mudhaf

Expect to be taken for a ride if you shop here. Not only are prices double what they are in other places, their return and exchange policy is intentionally misleading - their in-store policy does not reflect their online policy. They print specific clauses around "seasonal items" (whatever those are, I could buy a fan in December) on their receipts and then use that as an excuse to not offer refunds on items deemed "seasonal", only exchanges for similar items. The staff may look happy, but that's probably because they know they're fleecing you the moment you walk in. Do yourself a favour, Home Depot is only a short SkyTrain ride away. Do not give these shysters your money.

  • Damien S

The manager is an absolute piece of work (I'd use stronger words if Google allowed me to). I asked for my bill to be adjusted by $3 on two items that came out to be a higher price on the bill than they were listed for. One would think this is a pretty reasonable request when the item is marked with the lower price and the shelf also has the lower priced marked. Instead he decides to do a total power trip. Told me I could only get only one of the two items for the price that it was marked. Briefly even implied that the sticker was not theirs or I had somehow changed it, which definitely was not the case. Utter waste of my time that ended up taking nearly 15 minutes.

  • Treva Raymond

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lynn introduced herself and shook my hand (which are small but important things you don’t experience in retail anymore) and took the time to ensure I had the help I needed, even though it was the end of her shift. The General manager helped me with my paint selection; he was very knowledgeable (which I would expect) but what surprised me was how the entire team was equally as engaging (not only with me, but with other patrons that were in the store). I live in the West end and usually drive to the big box stores on Cambie, but I will be shopping at my local Home Hardware from now on!

  • Truth Crypto

Will not be going to this store anymore so tired of looking online their site saying they have something going to the store to find out the don't have it even though the website says it's in stock. Now they want you to leave your bag at the front because of theft but they will not guarantee you or cover damages to anything in your left bag if they can't keep people from stealing from them how is your personal effects in your bag being left at the front going to be safe explain that. Don't waste your time here go else where Canadian tire is a short distance away and far better when it comes to a shopping experience

  • John MERZETTI

There always seems to be a lot of staff milling about, chatting amongst themselves, doing their best to avoid interaction with customers. There are lots of places to spend cash on the various items they sell. While I don't expect a red carpet rolled out, I certainly expect a more welcoming tone. Also, I don't expect a clerk to chastise me for having the nerve to have turned off tap in my debit card. It's a personal preference and his opinion is best kept to himself on the matter, rather than telling me how it slows down the line. I could speed-up the line by shopping elsewhere.

  • Ross Owen

I was surprised and personally insulted to be told I must leave my leather bag at the entry before shopping, apparently due to theft issues in the store . I then asked if they would insure my contents; laptop and tablet .They declined. I suggest they introduce measures to inconvenience the thieves WITHOUT inconveniencing their customers such as security cameras, e'tags on merchandise , etc. There is no other retailer in Vancouver where I have been asked to surrender my personal property before spending my money. I wont shop there again .

  • Brita | LULA HEALTH

Forced me to leave my purse which is a tiny miniature little backpack with an iPad that literally wouldn't fit anything more in it if you tried. I've been coming here forever and suddenly have to leave my belongings up front to purchase a single key that would take 4 seconds at the front. What a waste of time. Maybe check put your clientele first, won't be back. I get it, people steal but have a little respect for peoples personal things. I own my own business a block away so I get it but there is a line.

  • Rachel S

Visited this location a week ago and NONE of the staff were wearing masks and they made ZERO effort to distance even as I was nearly falling over to try to avoid them. Sorry, I'm not going back. I would have hoped that a neighborhood shop would care enough about the locals to even take the simplest steps towards protecting our safety but apparently not. Already we've seen two Covid- 19 exposures at businesses on Davie Street (Sandman Hotel and 7-11) and it looks like we're ripe for more.

  • Daniel

The short woman with short blonde hair is an awful person with zero people skills. I was in there today around 3pm. A customer was trying to look for an item, but had difficulty describing what it was. The entire interaction was less than a minute, but she huffed in an exasperated way. The woman didn't even try to communicate with her and then whispered rudely under her breath to me about people who don't speak English. Won't be coming back. Don't need to deal with racist cashiers.

  • Guerric Haché

A great place to grab basic hardware or supplies you might need for all kinds of things. The staff are very nice - honestly sometimes a little too helpful. It can feel like they don't want to let any customer go "unhelped" for more than a few seconds, so I've sometimes felt rushed and under pressure when I really just want to browse and compare and see what they have on offer myself. But generally speaking, I love having a place like this in the neighborhood.

  • Yagyaseni

We looked for a wrench at six different stores (London Drugs, Stables, Walmart, Best buy, Winners, Dollarama) but to no avail! Three of these places suggested us to visit this place! This is probably the only place in town right now that is carrying a screwdriver and wrench! We found everything to be slightly overpriced here. The quality of the products were top notch though! The employees were very helpful as well!

  • Trev Dee

I feel so uncomfortable shopping here. Once you step in, the staff instantly makes you check your bags at the door. Loss prevention and customer service should go hand-in-hand, but this makes me feel like I’m instantly being judged and treated like a potential criminal. I do not steal and I also don’t like being away from my personal belongings. The staff is nice, but it’s a hyper paranoid atmosphere.

  • Robert Petrie

These people are super friendly, super helpful and knowledgeable about things and stuff. Believe it! Every time I've gone there I get what I need plus extra info and tips. It's becoming my one place to go to. Add On: 2 years later and I still go there for most home fixing supplies and organizing gear. I bought a lot of tubs there. Still super friendly/knowledgeable and good sales too.

  • alexaxsen

After my last trip into this disaster of a store, I posted a review here on Google. I was treated terribly by the staff. The owner/manager left a response assuring me that this would NEVER happen again and that I could trust them with my hardware needs. Well, NEVER again. I went in there to buy glue and once again was treated like absolute garbage. I will NEVER EVER return.

  • Mr Bernard

Always great service although the one time and only once there was a mature female staff member who was unable to afraid assist me with finding Dremel parts ( didn't know what a Dremel was) I'm putting that aside and storing it for humor sake only because she was so darn precious. But over all great staff well stocked and closer than Home Depot and Can Tire.

  • No Borscht For You

It's expensive. You pay for the convenience of having a rather well stocked hardware store downtown. But it continuously blows my mind how well stock they actually are. And the people working there could teach Home Depot a few things about the "we can help" part of HD's slogan. I don't give 5 stars unless I see something special, and these folks deserve it

  • Jen

Staff was not knowledgeable: Asked about paint and the guy literally read the can’s label to me (something I can do that myself, thanks). Asked a few other questions on tools, plumbing and pest control, all I got was patronizing and unsure answers. Prices were way over priced for everything. Work experience at a hardware store I have ever experienced.

  • Adam

The second I walked in, security treated me as if I was a potential thief. Disappointing experience, sad to see this store has turned into North Korea. I get they probably deal with homeless all the time, but alienating your customers just because they’re young and male is a sure fire way to make sure your customers buy off Amazon instead.

  • Pamela Miler Rangel

They asked my husband to keep his bag at the entry store and he accepted, but in the end, the security guard took a photo of him after he PAID the products. He noticed and requested to have his photo deleted once he did nothing less than buy products like any other customer. If you want to avoid this situation, don't go to this store!

  • Cherry “Aderyn” Thompson

Love my neighbourhood hardware store. Old school! Just how it should be. You go in for something to fix something and come out with 20 things you never meant to buy! Seriously though, the staff are beyond helpful and I love how queer friendly they are and never look down on you regardless of gender. Old school but modern

  • Marcin Szylowski

Home Hardware in general should be out of business. Purchased a produce online and tried to return it in the store. I was told it was sold by a third party and I could either try to return online, or the cashier could process the return, but charge a %15 restocking fee. What a joke! Never shopping online or in store again!

  • Maple Bud

Went in today and was greeted by very helpful staff, found exactly what I needed and what they didn't have in stock were more than happy to order for me. They also have a great variety of plants and gardening supplies which I was extremely happy to see in the neighborhood. Thanks Home Hardware, see you again soon!!!!!

  • Sinéad Cummins

We've been in here give times now trying to get a colour match. The staff keep sending us away with the wrong stuff. Told us the colour we are trying to match is impossible. Went to Canadian Tire and they were able to match the colour exactly within 10 minutes! Don't waste your time or money!

  • Ariella Taylor

This is how a local hardware store should be. Excellent service and the owner goes out of his way to get you what you need if they don't have it. They also offer delivery at a very affordable rate which is hard to come by and definitely not what you'll get from big box stores like Home Depot.

  • Anne Marie MacLean

Bought a thermos that didn't keep anything hot for more than 2 hours. Went to return it with receipt within one week and the first thing I was told was "no". We don't accept returns if you've used the item. That's your policy? Lost a customer and will tell others to avoid. The is archaic!

  • Kayla

Love this local hardware store, the staff is super helpful and very friendly, the shelves are always stocked with the kinda of things you need as a DIY city dwellers, and if they don't have quite what I need they are always happy to order it in for me, couldn't ask for a better neighbor!

  • Lisa M

What's the unusual bit is there are plenty of knowledgable staff which seems to be unusual for many hardware stores. Prices a bit steep but quality sometimes better here than what you find at Amy's dollar store across the street. Nice to have a full hardware store option downtown.

  • Leigh Thomson

So helpful, the staff are great. It is so nice to find so many hardware tools to help with home repairs. Wait there's more, they offer specialty items on request and they bring in seasonal goods like garden furniture . Delivery is available So glad for the location.

  • M Wola

The staff here make shopping here a complete joy. I always find myself laughing at some wry joke they make. You can tell it's a good place to work and that makes it a good place to shop. Always helpful and knowledgable. Thanks Davie Street Home Hardware …

  • Q G

Great store to find in the middle of the city. What a shame they have the need for such security, an indictment of the times we live in and years of liberal soft on crime attitudes... I hope the owners persist and continue to offer this valuable local service.

  • Autumn Delaney

Nice and small store, employees seem nice and helpful. I was surprised at how many kitchen appliances they sell. Was a little off putting to be stopped and told to leave my bag at the front, but it was an empty bag specifically for shopping so it was okay.

  • Sayantani Podder

Worst experience ever. We bought a light string a few days ago. It didn't match the length we require. So, we wanted to return. But apparently, they were final sales. Although they didn't let us know that it was final sale at the time of buying.

  • Carlos Cuevas

I bought a product that ran out very quickly, it seemed strange to me, I went to the store for some solution and they only told me that they had not had any problems before with that product, I was forced to buy another one. without solution

  • Andy Greene

It's not a large store. Therefore, they do not have some products like black lights or Master combination locks, for example. I find them pricey compared to Canadian Tire or Home Depot. However, they are the only hardware store for miles.

  • Devin Doyle

This particular location seems special. Little space but a ton of great necessities. Keeps me from always having to prowl isles at home depot trying to flag down their constant hide and seek playing staff. These folks are happy to help.

  • Brooke McKinlay (whatisthewifi)

The staff at this store are incredible! I came in 20 minutes before closing and Garth was so kind and cut a slab of wood for me. I've been looking for something to fit my patio for months and haven't been able to get anything the right

  • Salvador Cornelio Marí

Friendly service for key copying, I paid 1/3 of what I paid before. The place is so big never thought it was a whole warehouse there. Something to improve the weird moment a female staff made at the entry for leaving the bags there.

  • Mark Briand

No. I'm not going to leave my bag with my $2000 MacBook in it at the front door for the privilege of buying a roll of tape from your store while your cashier eats yogurt at the till... I will be shopping elsewhere from now on lol.

  • ray Of light

Staff are always very courteous and helpful, and usually more staff on the sales floor than a larger competitor. It's surprising how many products they can fit in that small place. Great to have a hardware store in the West end.

  • Larry Ng

Excellent customer service provided by the staff and professional. I like to browse around to see what they have and most of the time, they do not disappoint. We prefer this hardware store than any around the downtown area.

  • Italina Ramos

Excellent customer support. They help you all the time. They provide plenty of stuff that you may need for home improvements. Some things are quite expensive like hangers... But I found a good organizer for a good price. :)

  • Madison Wilde

I just had the best experience at this home hardware. Friendly staff but one gentleman went above and beyond by making me a duct tape handle to carry cardboard boxes. Such a thoughtful and meaningful gesture. Thank you!!!

  • Spencer Shack

Incredibly conveniently located town style hardware store with a great selection of anything you might need. Staff are extremely friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They have excellent home goods for sale as well.

  • M R

They always have the little necessities you need from a hardware store without going to the big box guys, the people are super friendly and knowledgeble, and they are a neighbourhood business that should be supported.

  • Ash Taba

Cashier doesn't know the difference between bill and receipt. Asked them multiple times to give me both bill and receipt and he could only understand the receipt part. Couldn’t find duct tape I was looking for

  • Kathy Jwaszko

Absolutely wonderful staff here. My walker had lost a screw and was falling apart. The young man who assisted me, fixed it all up, good as new, right there on the spot. Very impressed. Thank you so much.

  • Karl

Big shop with friendly, knowledgeable staff who are more than happy to help. Great selection of goods for do it yourself (DIY), gardening, stuff to help organize your home, barbecue, lawn chairs etc.

  • Stefanie Kennell

Remarkably wide range of products, competitive prices, and welcoming, helpfully knowledgeable staff. A tremendous asset to the neighbourhood! Very strong on seasonal offerings (Xmas, Pride, &c) too.

  • Kael Levaillant

I have been dealing with Adrian on purchasing / ordering in a product. They have been Super helpful and provided the best Service I’ve had in a long time. Keep up the good work you’re awesome.

  • Mandana Alejamshid

One of the rep, Chris, he was so nice and helpful. He was paintely explained the process and what we need to do to remove and fix our bathtubs mold. Definitely we will come back there to shop.

  • Chloe

Just an FYI to anyone coming here, they take your bag away at the front, even if they have someone to walk you to and from the item you are looking for. Keep personal belongings on yourself.

  • Andrew

Store have a decent collection that will fit your most daily need. However the pricing in the store is a bit steep. There is just no way five screw and five washers worth the 7 Bux I paid.

  • Dickson Siu

Always get good service here. The price is a bit higher than normal but prpbably because the rent at the location is not cheap. You do have to check in your bags before you can go inside

  • R Pono

Amazing customer service! Loved my experience here even though it was just a simple household shopping, but the attentiveness, patience and knowledge of the staff was just outstanding!

  • lya k

Great always friendly service! However matches I bought from this location are not the highest quality. But otherwise great location, glad it's in the area, shopping there regularly.

  • Vasu Desikachary

Very friendly and helpful staff who will gladly spend 5, even 10 minutes with you to help with your issue - unlike other big box hardware chains. My go-to store for d-i-y projects.

  • George

Older fella, I can't remember his name helped me get some bolts for my longboard trucks. Great customer service and was very patient! Thank you for your stellar service, sir!

  • Gavin Gordon

Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff! Despite the size of the store, the variety of products they offer is fair. Unfortunately, their prices are exorbitantly high.

  • Howard Ashmore

Considering the location, this Home Hardware still has everything the big box stores have. The staff I think are owners and therefore very knowledgeable and helpful

  • Marco Polo

Honestly, if you're female or part of the community don't shop here. On the off chance you're unfortunate enough to speak with the manager/owner you'll understand.

  • Lindsey Johnston

The staff hear are always so helpful. I prefer to go here over big box stores because of the difference in customer service levels. Keep up the good work guys!

  • Ramtin Lahooti

Inventory is too limited and staff look so tired here, but trying to help. Good hardware store considering this is Downtown and there is not enough space

  • Alejandro Fernandez

The service is the best. They always want to help and give you advice and help you with what you need. You can almost find everything you need in there.

  • Robert Kent DesRochers

Have some great products and selection. Depending who you get as the cashier will determine if this has been a pleasant shopping experience.

  • BMX SICKNESS

Most times I go there they have what I need in stock and the employees are super friendly and helpful. I appreciate places like this.

  • Hannah Mueller

The brown stocky man with the glasses and beard who just stands at the front entrance is rude, extremely creepy, and unprofessional.

  • Dale G

Weird vibe in this place. Never been to a hardware store that has a bouncer. Good range of products and prices seem decent.

  • Keith MacInnis

Unreasonable security tried to take my laptop backpack at the door. I took my business to the hardware store on Bidwell.

  • Dee Paquette

Great service always As it's the only hardware store in the West End prices are reflected in this fact …

  • Liana W.

Great place to find essentials for the home. Love plants and seeds inside. Love the community feel. Nice staff.
