I think I could have loved this place. The former habitation of a group of Trappist monks. A place of peace and contemplation... I checked the site before I came. It said it was open to the public, except during Shakespeare in the Ruins, so I went. Lo, but they were beginning to set up for Shakespeare in the ruins when I arrived! And I got some stink-eye from a lady who grudgingly let me look around as they began to set up. Post when you will be doing Shakespeare in the ruins! Add a precise description of when us wanderers cannot be there! Hell, had I known in advance that it was happening I may have stayed and paid! Beautiful location for some Shakespeare!

Such a gem. I wish they would just leave it alone though. I think there are more than enough fences thanks very much. Miss the old days before they started "fixing it up". Also who told the "Shakespeareans" that they owned the place. We pulled up out of the river in our canoe last summer and they nearly flipped their lid trying to chase us off...uh guess what you dont own the public park. We took our time and lingered just to let them know we have every right to share the space. Respectfully of course. I finished my sandwich.

I was there in the 70's with my school. Even had a monks robe put on me. It's sad what happened to the building but they preserved enough of it to get make it a worthwhile visit. The peace and serenity of the area enhances time well spent. It has a double Outhouse that is very basic but at least is something if needed. Also it has numerous old trees that offer a place to sit in the shade. You may want to bring a folding chair since it has only one picnic table.

Huge history buff, so this place was wonderful. Really felt the spirit of a time long ago. As i visited the old ruines i could envision how it must've been back then, long ago before the McDonald's and Starbucks. There's a bunch of great places for photo ops. Some of the old architecture still stands, lending a dynamic back drop for the past, present and future.

It's a nice park-like area out front with a decent hall in the far back. Been to a wedding out here, the hall was a good location, with accommodating space and rustic appeal for the smaller ceremony...that being said the recent completion of a golf course has bulldozed a lot of the park's former area and some of its quiet appeal.

We intended on going to go see the ruins but stumbled onto a play. Shakespeare in the Park lives here and they were doing a play that afternoon. Dark Lady was playing and we decided to attend. Lovely play. Lovely venue. And the flying fluff was the perfect touch to make it even more magical.

Really nice place. Quiet for a walk, and beautiful surroundings. The only con would be the amount of people, but being an outdoor space you can definitely enjoy some time. If you want to enjoy the silence while looking for a nice view, this is definitely a place to visit

After a few hrs at the St. Norbert Farmers Market, this historic site is a peaceful, quiet area of MB that puts you back at peace. On Saturday, the Arts Market offers food and crafts in the original Monks quarters. If you enjoy a quiet break, visit!

Beautiful location to view the exceptional performance of "Hamlet!" The overcast, grey sky looming above added to the moody setting of this well- known and we'll worth attending Shakespeare play! Today & tomorrow are the final days of its run!

There is a certain sadness to this place. A relic of a bygone age, with nothing but a facade and partial foundation remaining of a place once bustling with tranquility. The ruins are yet a place of peace and prayer though, if we let it be.

the place has a very creepy enviroment, best after midnight. Take a flash light on you because the place has basically no light. It's pitch black! trust me. Don't go there in day light. There is no fun if you can't see any ghosts. Enjoy!

Beautiful ruins, well maintained. Many photographers, myself including, but everyone was great working around each other and families for photos.

Great site that's well maintained. The only reason for deducting a star was the shipping containers blocking vehicles exiting the site. Fine for cars, but if you're travelling in an RV you might have to do some wiggling and slow crawls

Excellent place for a walk or to rake the dog. You have the monestary ruins, the river bank and a couple of woods you can through. Public bathrooms are near the beginning of the park and there are plenty of parking spots!

Pleasant and quiet place to have a walk. There are informative signs installed in the paths to know more about the historic site. However, it is good have additional tables in the park to stay in while enjoying the view.

Ghosts abound in this park. I was there as a kid. The Monks were secretive and creepy, they are gone now, moved to Holland, Manitoba. Don't stay in the nearby guest house alone...someone or something is watching you.

  • Alexandria Hitchings

Good spot to stop in and check out if you've never been. Not that much that you can do besides admire the ruins and take some aesthetic photos, although there is a lovely little garden close by you can walk through.

  • Jason Salamandyk

Great for a stroll, some photo ops with the family, yoga, or a picnic and so much more. The feeling you get from this historic establishment is warm and inviting. Worth a morning or afternoon anytime of the year.

Beautiful grounds - a nice place to spend a picnic afternoon and take some pictures. Not much in the way of amenities, but it is very near the farmers market and the city in general.

A peaceful place to visit. Right at the end of Saint Norbert. Serene place to go for a walk. It’s also rated as one of the top haunted place in Manitoba …

  • Julia Florek

It's very peaceful and well maintained. You can catch a bus to St Norbert and walk the rest of the way, as there are sidewalks and gravel paths throughout.

  • Kyle Friesen

It's a very interesting place for a picnic or for watching a play! Generally quiet and well-kept. We just took our 15th anniversary pictures here.

  • Cheryl Hooper

Beautiful setting. Wish there was more info about what each of the spaces/rooms were and how used. What are the metal doors from? Was one a safe?

  • Jonathan Martin

Beautiful to look at, walk around in and great photo spots!

Fascinating site. Though it's only a ruin, it offers insight into the contemplative life the Trappists would have lead.

Felt the poetic justice of celebrating the ruins. Felt sad for those who were institutionalized there.

  • Emin Valikhanov

The building is quite older and sidewalks, bike riding is just amazing especially in rainy weather.
