Had a great time recently at the Fort Whyte alive for an event. On our agenda was a bison Safari, hatchet throwing, and a roasting of Bannock over the fire. Our guide was very informative and funny. It was great listening to him talk about the bison as he drove the bus so that we could get up-close-and-personal with them. We were probably twelve feet away? He opened up the door so that we could get clear shots of the bison which seemed very friendly considering they have never been tamed. Hatchet throwing is a lot harder than it looks. A few people did manage to get their hatchet into the wall. The final activity was making Bannock. We were given dough that we had to roll and press then wrap around a stick so that we could cook it. They also had something for us to drink as well as Maple to dip the Bannock in. Afterwards we were left on our own to take pictures and to walk the grounds. It was a great time where we got to make new friends. I would highly recommend coming here especially for the ability to look at the Bisons up close and personal. Parking is easy once you get there as they have a huge parking lot.

Horrible experience. Their gates closes at 4:30pm, but on their website it says they are open from 9:00am to 5pm which is a bit misleading. The lady who worked there, riding a cart had closed the gate exiting to McGillivray around 4:30pm, but we were still riding our bikes at that time and about to exit into the gate to McGillivray just after 4:30pm. We saw her only a few minutes away from the gate and asked if she could kindly open the gate so we can exit out and go to our vehicle, but she declined to help us out when she was riding a cart that would've literarily taken her only a few minutes to do it. We had to call an Uber from the main entrance to get to our vehicle first, then drove back to Fort Whyte alive main entrance to put our bicycles into our vehicle. What a horrible customer service, it would've taken only a few minutes just to open the gate very quickly so we could exit out to where our vehicle is parked. I mean a little consideration is all we asked. Also, hours should be specific on their website.

I recently visited this place and was completely fascinated by the beauty and serenity that this place offers. From the moment I entered, I perceived a feeling of tranquility that is difficult to find elsewhere. This is a real gem for nature lovers and those who wish to immerse themselves in an environment rich in biodiversity. The variety of plants, trees is extraordinary. I loved how each section is precisely curated, allowing visitors to explore and discover the wonders of global flora. Every corner offers a new educational and visual experience. This is also a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Strategically placed benches offer quiet corners to sit and contemplate your surroundings. In conclusion, I highly recommend a visit to this place to anyone who wishes to spend time immersed in the beauty and diversity of the plant kingdom. It is an experience that I deeply appreciated and that I will certainly repeat.

Great attraction located on the far westside of Winnipeg. Lots to do for both adults and children. Abundance of trails and even several boardwalks over that span over the water. Numerous events and additional activities that change regularly. There is an admission fee but its relatively small for the amount of activities you can do. The bison pen is usually very active making for great photo opportunities. The interpretive centre has lots of small activities for children including animal displays, live fish/marine life, live reptiles, etc. Boardwalk near the marsh has an abundance of wildlife. Reception centre has a nice cafe and gift shop that features local makers. Highly recommend.

I attended a work retreat for a full day at Fort Whyte. The Lakeside meeting room was great and the Goose Chase scavenger hunt was lots of fun. Unfortunately, our lunch was horrible. Our grilled wraps came jammed into square plastic containers that made getting the food out challenging. The soggy wrap was disgusting and I tried to eat just the filling. Much of it was tasty but included large chunks of raw carrot that did not make for a pleasant eating experience. Hugely disappointed by the food, not to mention how serving food in plastic containers does not seem environmentally friendly. If I was rating the food along the score would be much lower.

Awesome trails and lots of greenery. Good place for watching goose, ducks and other animals and a lot of history. Bison viewing is available. Great place to spend weekends and watch sunset. the museum has a lot of taxidermy stuff of owls, bears, bison, deer, cougar, foxes and so on. Entry tickets for two is about $21 dollars if you are not a member. It is worth it.

for a reasonable price you can learn and explore a lot about manitoban culture here! i LOVED learning about all the local wildlife in such a hands-on way. microscopes for viewing bits of nature up close, see a variety of cool insects on display, birdwatch intimately, and you can even TOUCH the taxidermy models of our wildlife (gently). AWESOME! never thought i would touch a polar bear! lots of peaceful walking to do and things to learn. staff are kindly and helpful (and so were all the fellow visitors we met along the way). anyone visiting or new to manitoba or winnipeg should take a visit here.

I really wanted to love this park. But the buffalo seemed to be kept fenced away from the main grasslands and were only barely visible by the Tree House. I will try again another year and book a bus tour next time. The gift shop was also woefully understocked in bison-themed products. Big disappointment. Honestly, where were the buffalo plushies and magnets? A chocolate moulded in its image? Anything!! Staff seemed rather patronizing. Otherwise the park is a beautiful gem and has many walking trails with interesting information signs.

The entry costs $22 for 2 for all day access. You can come in and out anytime. It has variety of trails to try. Ponds and lakes to chill and go sight seeing. Better yet, they mimic some eco system for the visitors to see and experience. The most impressive thing is their touchable animal gallery. Usually, these are forbidden since the oil from hands/palms ruins the exhibits or at least makes the maintenance hard to keep up. Awesome experience for me! Yes, kayaking and fishing are encouraged.

Visited here in the winter to try out snowshoeing. We rented from them and also brought our own snowshoes. It was fun going on their trails and on the frozen-over ponds and lakes. We even encountered a couple of deer in their forest trail. After snowshoeing we spent time on theit toboggan run. They have large toboggans on-site and these are free to use once you are already in the park. Of course, it's always nice seeing the bison enclosure. They also have a shop, cafe and a small museum.

At the best location. Parking available at some spots. i feel this place is very relaxing. Stay tgere for a while. You'll find trees, animals like bisons etc and other creaturs very much into the nature. you can see people boating and sailing. you can also see vegetables garden and solar panels.i personally believe it is great setup.one must go there. i feel like spending more time. you can buy fresh vegetables etc and support local business. i think they post updates about the same.

Amazing just how diverse wildlife can be found here. Considering this was a quarry supplying a cement plant, this is a perfect representation of "if you build it, they will come" In this case wildlife. The four quick charge stations (two of which are for Teslas) makes this an ideal stop for a charge. The boardwalks on the ponds are a delightful attraction, where you can see fish, turtles, muskrat and all sorts of water foul. A lovely natural escape close to the city.

This is a cheap place to spend a day with family. In the winter you can go skating or use there giant sleds ramp which is so much fun. They have snow shoeing and have fires lit for marshmallow roasting. Summer is equally fun. My son really enjoyed the kindercamp this summer he will gonna for sure next summer. It's such a beautiful place to go with all ages and learn some new things. The buffalo stone cafe is also a great place to have a snack.

Beautiful piece of nature at Winnipeg's backdoor! Amazingly groomed trails for walking or cycling, great way to spend time with the family or some personal solitude. Whether you are watching the birds at the woodland feeding area, the bison herd on the prairie plains, or the frogs and turtles by one of the many lakes - everything is awe inspiring. The interpretive centre is currently undergoing renovations and is closed to the public.

One more wonderful visit to FortWhyte. We went there for the Goose Flight sunset event. The presentation was very informative and the presenter was very good. It. Was and awesome evening with bannocks and s'mores we roasted ourselves and enjoyed the sunset while birds were landing just in front of us, in the lake. Something that must be experienced. The sounds and the views are beautiful.

So much to do and so much fun, From an interpretive center to an over the edge activities, this place is alive throughout the year with various activities, Keep your eyes open for species of wildlife that can be seen during the nature walk, from Deer's, bison to even red garter snake this place has alot to offer, a good amount of parking with number of trails it was a drink of nature

My 6 year old son and I really enjoyed our time at Fort Whyte. There were interesting organized activities and it was wonderful to walk the trails and be in nature. Definitely check the website before you plan to go and check out the activites they have on. We really enjoyed the Bannock baking and the sod house. The marsh boardwalk is a serene sight.

First time at Fort Whyte was for their Lake Shaker fundraising event and it won’t be my last visit. Tix were $40 but included all events, the bar could have been better and you couldn’t take the drinks to any of the entertainment, and all of the events ended unexpectedly after the raffle (tobogganing, hatchet throwing, river games, etc)

It was a really nice experience. It offers snow shoeing, trails for cross country skiing, fire pits to warm up and roast marshmallows, scavenger hunts for kids, and there were some more games and more activities on the weekend I went. It also has a restaurant inside the main building. I would definitely go there again.

FortWhyte Alive is a great place to visit if you want to commune with all forms of nature, especially of the tick variety. After a walk around the paths we did a quick tick check and found 5 on our pants and shirts, and then another 10 when we got home. Fishing was ok, lots of small perch and hammer handle sized pike.

We had our wedding here recently and it was so so beautiful. Anna and the staff were great. Anna responded quickly to our inquires which helped make the day more enjoyable. The only loss of a star is because set up can’t start until 3 which is pretty late and caused some stress! Otherwise - great experience! Thanks!

Great winter day to enjoy at FT Whyte. Staff always friendly each time we've been there. Walking trails nicely groomed. Highly recommend a visit, a "jewel" inside Winnipeg. Suggestion, would be nice to have a spot indoors if families want to bring their own lunch. Otherwise, a great experience all around.

Great experience overall, didn't look too much into what was offered going into it. was pleasantly surprised by the amount of features including the bison hill, board walks, and the tree house was a really cool thing to check out! Recommend coming here alone or with family and making a day of it!

Our family has been gifted the Family Membership for the last couple of years and it is so worth it! The perfect outdoor getaway right in the city, all year round. Our oldest goes to Forest School and I wish I knew about it sooner! Definitely going to enroll our next kid once they're of age.

An absolutely gorgeous piece of land. The paths are wonderfully maintained and a breeze to stroll down. It's peaceful and if your from a busy city is such as Toronto, it's a brilliant change of pace. It's worth the visit if you're in or near Winnipeg. Glad to have visited.

Went on the north side of the trail(close to Sterling Lyon Parkway) and it’s a pretty solid trail. Seems like it’s mainly used for bikes since that’s all I saw but it’s a good walking trail too. Didn’t visit the rest of FortWhyte Alive but definitely will in the future.

Fantastic little gem in the middle of the prairie. Their floating boardwalks are super neat and they have a great little lunch spot - I recommend coming with the plan to eat there. I'm from out of town but for the locals, they seem to have a great schedule of events.

Perfect gateaway and simply nice place to spend your day. Really loved the nature and how well it is maintained. Lots of equipment to rent, fishing rods, kayaks, boats, however the wind was more than permitted so weren't able to rent a boat (keep it in mind).

Very nice place to spend the day enjoying nature. Also good hiking and cycling trails. Even in winter there is lots to do from bison viewing, numerous displays and using the hiking trails. They also have a nice restraunt with a good lunch selection.

My husband and I rented a canoe for an evening paddle at the lake south of the park, beautiful calm lake and perfect for beginners, plenty of trails surround this place as well as wildlife. ForthWhyte is a nice gateway from the city in the city.

Beautiful place in SW Winnipeg. We did some birding and spotted Sandhill cranes. Also got to see bison calves and adults relatively close. Lots of trails. We spent three hours there, including lunch.

Had so much fun! Lots of activities to do like kayaking, paddle boats, biking, etc. There’s also a cafe inside and the staffs were really accomodating. This is the perfect getaway within the city.

Excellent place to experience trail walking and biking. Bison viewing so close to the city is awesome. The animals and arts in the museum are so lively. The flooding boardwalk trail is so nice.

Very very very disappointed with the flight diner. DO NOT spend $100 for that. Bread was hard as a rock. The main course was very tasty, but way too pricy. I honestly think I got ripped off.

This place is so dear to my heart. There are activities for all ages and all interests - snowshoeing, foraging for edible plants, honey harvesting, canoeing, and more.

One of my favorite place in Manitoba. Been there many times and always something new to see and experience. One of must visit place especially in Fall.
