I liked a couple pieces in the museum, but it was small. I felt like they needed more pieces that really showed off their gallery to the extent that it was, but it felt like most pieces were student works. My favorite piece was the stitched composition notebooks. Those took a lot of work and energy to make. They had a message and were a big piece. Maybe I just hate the open room concept of modern spaces. You can't hand anything on the walls if there are no walls. But they could invest in sculpture work, if there's any of that to be had around. Maybe they could hang panes of glass and then hang artwork from the glass. I dunno, but they should think of something. There was Mexican artist with a single painting up. There were several tapestries, and several small pictures in the main gallery.

I am currently looking for local, original art for my home and found this gallery in my research. Admission is free; there is an opportunity to donate to help support. Several rooms displayed the current exhibit in all open rooms. Guests are free to view at their leisure and it was surprisingly empty for a Saturday afternoon. Visit their online site for details of events, or for open artist calls.

Not exactly "Kid Friendly" Went for a kids activities day, only to find ourselves in a room with art portraying male and female nudity in the first room, and one of the drawings was pretty much from a gynecologist's point of view...so definitely NOT kid appropriate. It was a great idea for the activities, but I don't think it was a good idea to take the kids. Pretty much just steered clear of that area. Won't be going back.

Always a fresh new interesting exhibit. The exhibits are curated to develop a theme that is in line with the message the museum is offering. The exibitions are always presented in a way that the gallery patron is entertained but challenged to learn the message the artist is trying to convey. Check the museum's hours before deciding on a visit, the museum is dark during some periods for exhibition installation.

The art here is so far out there, I feel it’s insulting to art in a way. Clothes baskets full of blankets toys and books sitting on the end of a teeter totter. A table with a movie of dinner plates being broken with a hammer projected on the table top. If you enjoy plain canvases with a dot, you may like it, but to me it was more performance art or political statement than visual art.

This was only our second visit but again loved the unique art on display. In addition, the surrounding art complex has many art offerings as well as food. NOTE: directly behind the complex is the San Antonio RIVERWALK which I consider one of the best urban amenities in the world. Have posted a few pictures of the birds I saw as I walked downtown on the river.

I love going here with and with out family. They constantly display some of the most origional and creative artist. The Blue Star Contemporary also has special events for the family as well as ever changing displays, best way to keep up with them is by either going or adding yourself to their newsletter. Great venue and will visit again and again.

a valued, cherished free public exhibit space that rotates its displayed pieces occasionally so we come back often to enjoy a day in southtown! loved the interactive question & answer wall near the entrance. thank you for remaining free to the public despite the challenges our community has faced over the last year.

Museum is not rich, but humble! When I visited the re I letters were two exhibition, so they regularly exhibit something new. Location is walking distance from river walk isSan Antonio. I proud Dan Antonio has this. For student visiting is free. Also location has some restaurant and cafe. Advised

The exhibitions here are consistently punching above their weight. I hope San Antonio truly appreciates what they have in this institution. I wish there were more artist/curator talks and exhibition-associated programming, but given the scale of their operation, they're doing an outstanding job!

Love this little community thing going on. Brings me back to the East Village in NYC back before it became gentrified and full of wannabes. I hope this eclectic vibe stays. Can hear some great music, buy some local art or knickknacks. Go visit and support your local community.

First Fridays are awesome and patrons enjoy free entry. Almost always a time to check out new displays in the gallery. Enjoy the ambiance, live music, food, and drinks. Great outing for family and friends whether you are a critic in a beret or a pre-k finger paint enthusiast.

What a wonderful gallery. The art was beautiful and thought-provoking. The staff was very welcoming and informative. They made me feel welcome as soon as I stepped in the door. I'm glad I was able to visit and donate to this wonderful place!

This place was enjoyable, I am studying architecture and I needed to study some color figuration's and looking at perspective sculptures that mean differently. Architecture Design was weird becomes it comes form the heart.

Was closed for installation. Nothing if the sort mentioned on the website or here on google maps. Wasted time and gas money for a project as a college student because management doesn't keep their hours updated.

  • Zachary McCorquodale

This place was really neat and there is a a lot to see and do there. I took a field trip there with an architecture class from the University of Texas at San Antonio. The art on display is very interesting.

  • Ana Bruja - Khayos

I was finally able to see this place open. The gallery was in transition and not all the displays were ready for viewing. It was nice seeing student work. If is open...its free to check it out.

  • Libby Brungardt

It's 5/5 for the price. It's quite small, but it's also very cheap. We were the only people there for the whole trip, so you don't need to worry too much about being around other people.

  • Kristen Nelson

Deep, profound artwork, that speaks volumes, and makes you feel a variety of emotion. Loved the little bit of information about each piece, along with the artist bios in the guidebook.

I was not good a good gallery at all. There are only 2 galleries that are the size of my bedroom....and at that I paid $7 bucks to look at a room with chicken wire.

Blue Star is a San Antonio jewel. Located in the heart of Southtown right on the river, what a perfect setting for a contemporary arts museum.

Nice museum. There is a small $5 per person entrance fee. Teachers, students, and military are free. Fun scavenger hunt for kids. Worth going.
