Coles at New Farm is convenient and there's three car park sections, with two above ground and the third a large underground parking facility. Bus stops for the 199 (on Merthyr Road) and 196 (Brunswick Street) routes are just outside the centre as is the local taxi rank. It gets busy around 5:00 pm most days but especially on weekends. Meat and deli prices can be expensive but a lot of other stock does get marked down after 5:00 pm too. Except for a few "troglodytes" I found most staff to be helpful and friendly. The self serve checkouts often break down though and this can cause delays. Perhaps they need replacing? I can recommend it for a basic weekly shop and maybe one top up shop but I'd avoid the "big weekly shop" there, unless you're made of money... If you're on a low income, then it's probably better to shop for smaller amounts of groceries and fresh food every two to three days, so that you can take advantage of special prices. It may pay to "shop around" at other supermarkets every now and then, just to compare prices on the more expensive foods and toiletries, as this particular Coles outlet is reputed to be one of the most expensive ones in Queensland.

This is without a doubt the worst run Coles I have encountered. It is continuously 'Out of Stock'. At first I thought it was because it was just bad timing on my behalf, I was going to late in the day or Sunday. But now I know that it is just bad ,management, there is never any excuse for untidy bare shelves. I cannot begin to imagine how much revenue this store is losing by this. Kudos to the young gentlemen who do their best to run back and forth and get the cauliflowers, lettuce, yoghurt and all number of products that myself and many other customers are patiently requesting and waiting for. And surely if you are putting a product on special you will stock up on that line? But no it runs outs here on a Saturday or Sunday and 'maybe it will be in by Tuesday".... or are they simply controlling how much product they sell at the special price? Coles you cannot afford this, there is a very well run Woolworths within 2.5 kms! YOur shareholders and customers deserve better please

Wow, I understand it's a difficult time of year and good staff are hard to find but this was rude. Couldn't find soda stream gas in the isle so brought my 30pack of coke and went to customer counter to find if they had some in stock. Not only did I wait for them to finish there chit chat in there own time but when I asked if they had any soda stream gas I got this following service. "Oh maybe its in the softdrink isle another person had one earlier you might be lucky to find it" . I replied "I have already been there and didn't see it, I just have my shopping here I don’t really want to leave it to go back in". Two ladies doing nothing but talking between themselves reply " Leave all your stuff here and you can go look for it." I literally said thanks for the service and walked out. Staff lazy don't want to provide customer service and rude. I'll go to woolworths now it's closer and has better service.

I shopped there for about eight years, did my last shop there ever, or at any coles ever again after doing my shop, getting to the checkout, and the person who served me would not take my twenty dollar note, that i had not even noticed eas damaged, all intact, but damaged. It was near closing time, that was all i had on me, and the manager came out and also refused the money. The damaged note was of no consequence to them, the bank would have recieved it when they banked it, it was just a power trip. Shame on the staff involved, i have spent tens of thousands of dollars down there over the years, and was treated with complete disdain, i told the manager i would never shop there again, and i wont. I am now a happy customer of ALDI and Wooloworths, i will never step foot in another Coles anywhere again, and will do my best to spread the word of there terrible customer service.

My local coles, used to be good, they had an entire aisle with health foods and healthy options, that’s been reduced down to a single bay, no organic options, barely any gf/vegan things. No idea why you’d go backwards when everyone is becoming more health conscious and making better choices. Another time, I scanned something that was on sale but it scanned at full price. I asked the attendant to fix it up and she insisted that you don’t get the item free when I asked her. When I showed her on the coles website that in fact you do get item free; she got aggressive and acted like I was the problem. Coles should really do better training of their staff so they’re at least aware of their own policies and select stuff that understand what customer service is

For the second week in a row I have had the misfortune to go into coles New Farm to buy my groceries. Being over 70 I like to go early as the centre gets so busy. Unfortunately at 7.30 until about 9am there is no assisted check out available. I was obliged to use the new self check out. Having a trolly full of groceries, it was not easy for me to check, pack and call to staff, who seemed to be looking everywhere but where they where needed. I found the whole experience very stressful. Especially as I was told the Checking machine need to Warm up before it was responsive. I spent in excessive of 500 dollars in these lasting to weeks so coles stop being mean and employ enough staff to man at least one fully serviced checkout in the mornings.

I'm not really happy with the staffs today @14.28 pm. There was a special on swisse vitamin buying 2 for $20. However the store has only 1 pack which i was happy to buy two. I talked to few staffs there, if I can get the special on the product as it was the store problem. They said I can't. If you want you need to come back again for the stock check. It was really unprofessional way to treat your customer. I have dealt with this store previously and the staff was ok with the special on the product. I have spent more $500 per month in the previous months. Absolutely I am not going back to there anymore. The store needs training its staffs better in the future.

  • Margz Tata

My local Coles, usually pretty good standard of service. Have only had 1 bad experience there in 14 years where the you girl at the self checkouts chased me out the door and accused me of not paying for my groceries, when i presented her with my receipt, she just turned around and walked back inside without an apology or acknowledgement that she was wrong. I was so embarrassed and felt like she handled the situation the wrong way. I made a complaint with the manager on duty, left my contact details and never heard from anyone.

  • Tara Alexander

The deli staff in this store are lovely , they are so friendly, helpful and always up for a chat. It's a pleasure to buy from them. The store is super clean, staff been at the door my last 4 visits , handing out wipes, cleaning trollies etc. The wipes for trolleys is always full (unlike other stores) . Staff at registers are friendly and being mindful of everyone , register belt, EFTPOS machine was cleaned and wiped down before I was called up to start putting groceries on belt. Well done to this store manager ... A great team

I called ahead asking about the Special offer for the Vodafone $10 9GB prepaid and the person on the phone told me there was plenty. Then I went there and look for that prepaid sim, the same guy on the phone pointed me to the rack and say it is there. All I could find was $30 3GB starter pack. I asked him is this the 9GB $10 (just not showing the 9GB part)? He said yeah but his face tells me that he is not sure, and then he said oh I can make this $10. Turns out, this is not the 9GB promo offer. Wasted my time.

What a new nightmare my shopping trip was this morning There was no trolley wipes and no hand sanitizer. Although they had people queing outside the store was over crowded and there certainly was not any social distancing things in place. The lines at the checkouts we’re far reaching with customers bumping each other as they are trying to pack their bags. Some of my items were put through incorrectly but didn’t discover that till later. Sorry Coles but it was a disgrace... hope you do better moving forward

  • JAMES ODONOGHUE

Sunday afternoon and I find myself with nothing scheduled to do so I breeze on into Coles to grab essentials after a rather long lunch at New Farm Deli and I find a whole ocean of folk shopping ! There’s a wide variety of clientele here Couples young families authors writers interesting types. To my horror I find only one staff assisted checkout operational! Damn it more and more self serve payment points happening! Thankfully a kind friend assisted me with procedure!

  • Nk Hnd

Perfect has all the foods I need in store, with plenty of parking and the staff are very friendly. Underground parking if it's raining and u dont want to get wet, yes is wheelchair/pram etc friendly has a ramp. Or u could park upstairs on ground level. Has toilets on the grounds. Great store with friendly helpful staff to top it off. Plenty of parking. If u go to a different Coles please check this one out as u will see the difference in this store. Enjoy ur day.

  • J B

There is no charity donation trolley here which makes me very sad given the high end customers that come into the store. A homeless charity donation trolley (like at coles woolongabba) would add to my experience here. The feels like a mega store. Certainly caters for regular to high end customers. I’m really glad check outs are always open. Super glad that trolleys aren’t locked up (who keeps coins to unlock a coles trolley!). Seems like it’s always busy.

  • Peggy Chou

I do my everyday shopping here. Staff are usually friendly and helpful. Except the Staff R (hence the deduction of one star). Was in line to get serviced by her. An elderly customer was a bit slow and her card was denied. No biggie, happens all the time. However R decided to do an eye roll and acted impatiently, despite the fact that her customer was apologising. I know you can have bad days at work but this behaviour is unacceptable.

  • 7R0U8L3

I might be slightly biased because this is my local Coles but it's one of the better Coles stores I've been too. Friendly staff, shelves always stocked, always have great specials on, plenty of self serve check outs available and they are open until 10pm Mon-Sat and 9pm Sun. There's also a fruit and vegetable store across from it, a bottle-o, a newsagent, a deli and Australia Post. It's your one stop shop for everything you need.

  • H P

This coles is perfectly fine, pretty big. I‘ve removed a couple of stars cause could ya plz get more and regular bloody stock of potato pies!!!!! Rarely have them, but when they do, look out oh and frozen broccoli! More stock desperately needed!! If I had a potato pie for every time they’re out of broccoli... I literally check every time I go in there as I try to balance my pie addiction with something healthy

  • Kate

I have been shopping regularly at this Coles for the past year or so, and the same shelves are always left empty. It is so frustrating to shop here, as it seems all the things I need to get are never stocked.. just one example is the kitten food, always empty. And when I enquire about it, I get told it hasn't even been ordered. Super annoying, especially when this Coles is a 2 minute walk from me.

  • Paul O Donnell

Can be short of stock at times. I shop weekly and it is a large amount $250plus, so self serve is not really an option. No assisted check outs most days, they need more staff to serve customers. Luckily what staff there is are very helpful and go out of their way to assist. People appreciate being served by a human, when they open a checkout to serve me many people are thankful for the assistance

  • Kevan Wayne Jones

Busy store. QR code check in easy. But trolley wipres dispenser broken and can't be used. Store seemed to have all shelves stocked with staff pulling trollies into rows to pack. Some produce above standard to other stores. New shopping trip. Store still suffering from shortages . Sale items still stocked. Re visit shop. Busy. Some prices beyond purchase like strawberries for 11.60$.

  • Darren Rawlings (Daz)

I really enjoy this Coles as it's in a small shopping complex with good little shops within, including a doctor's clinic and the great Malouf pharmacy. It is a medium sized store that hosts friendly and helpful staff. Free parking, although one downside, there could be more of it. A bus stop is directly out the front, so save the miles on the car, and ride the bus.

  • jbro sbro

Doesn't have basic stuff that other Coles have even though is quite big. Really a waste of shopping village space, a Woolworths or an Aldi would be much better. Some of the staff there also don't know how to do some basic tasks with their POS or practise basic customer service. IGA down the road is actually better with out stocking anywhere near as much.

  • Steven's World

Coles got rid of their butcher! They now only have vacuum packed, prepacked meat that is just not the same. I suspect that vacuum packing allows them to freeze and defrost so it lasts longer but it is now tasteless. I will be boycotting and bought my first steak today from the independent butcher outside. Sick of profit over customer service and choice.

  • Rob Morgan

2/3/22 I have noticed that this supermarket and their competitors cannot be bothered to put a message up on their individual websites that they are closed during the current Queensland flood crisis. This puts elderly customers who may have walked to the supermarket because public transport is down in a poor situation. Disgusted.

  • Gary Brown

Great place to shop great viriaty and the staff are very helpful if it's not on the shelf they get it for you strait away close to other facility's and bus connections fantastic the 199 to the city as well as the 196 connection both back and forth Max waiting time between services 15 minutes thankyou very much every one .

  • Joy

Worst service ever, the girl there didn’t help us putting stuff in the bag at all, she only swipes and put everything on the small table until there is no more space, I had to magically came up with 6 hands to tidy up quickly, apparently she only wants to use 1 of her hands. No greeting no smile. Is she not getting paid?

  • Where iLive

Does everyone at checkout hate their job? Every single time since moving into the area I have experienced different employees with the worst attitudes. I honestly hate having to use people over the self checkout if we have a trolley. It's now a game to see each week if we finally get someone who smiles, Great work

  • Al Brandon

A nice friendly Coles right in New Farm. Very well stocked with fruit and vegetables. We also managed to get some great specials here. The staff were quite friendly and even helped us out with directions. I would prefer going to Coles over other supermarkets and New Farm Coles lives up to all expectations.

  • Allen Edgar

No checkout by a human being provided and what is it with extremely limited variety of breakfast cereals??Next to be nothing in freezer of frozen berries , perhaps it all comes from China??I always go to this store as we on Tuesday evening as my Woolworths in Spring Hill is much worse than this store.

  • Nathan Stevens

Would give the store a 0 out of 10 if possible. Extremely rude customer service managers that know absolutely NOTHING about customer service or about a customers right for a refund. The Managers that work on a Sunday Morning need to be demoted back to checkouts SERIOUSLY garbage customers service

  • Alyssa Susanto

5 stars because this is the only supermarket in the nearby vicinity that’s open late! Closed 9pm on Boxing Day which was better than any other grocery store around. Drove 20 mins to come here because of the good hours. This is my go to despite the distance whenever I need something after 6pm!

  • Tony Jones

Walked in to find oranges rotting not small bit but large amount of rot and still out for sale in plain view. Doesn't show you care or fresh as you say Also have photos to prove your slack ways So now I'm going woolies at least they care about there stock as I noticed. TONY JONES NewFarm

  • Judith Mellifont

Great place to shop both for every day goods including food items as well as for extras such as bunches of flowers for home or sweet treats for gatherings with friends. An assortment of goods always available which saves having to look far and wide for necessities and for extras.

  • varinia street

The only Supermarket in the area! A very large spacious & well stocked store! Friendly & helpful staff! Conveniently positioned located on Merthyr Rd right near a fruit & vegetables store! Three very popular and always busy cafes! A fabulous book store that sells quirky books!

  • Shalini Sharma

The store layout looks all fancy, but the products are not that great! Extremely expensive just because of the suburb. The products are hard to find sometimes and the staff dont always know where the products are. its great that they have the self serve payment machines.

  • Holly Moore

Have to say best Coles in town! Special mention to the delightful Monte at the deli. Never in a mood, always too happy to help and such a friendly smile every time I’m there! Coles has done so well to employ someone that knows customer service like the back of his hand!

  • warren

Renovations what an absolute disaster. Everything moved around just for the sake of it and so many products have disappeared off the shelves. So much wasted space now and for what. This place seems to continually move things around to annoy customers and chase them away

  • Daisy

Frustration several things popped up local shop, etc it blocked the map five percent visible and no instruction how to remove this annoying pop ups .Also the name and house numbers very poor vision strain to the eyes too small and in grey ,should large and black .

  • Irene Baggetto

standing at self checkout not knowing how to operate, I refuse to use self check out as I don't work there. No registers open bar 1. The girls are talking amongst themselves just at the next register. Took a few attempts to get attention for help. Won't be back.

  • Martin Odea

Worst Coles ever. Poor poor poor. Worst Coles store ever. Shelves are empty. Poor management. This store couldn't manage a root in a brothel. Get new managers. You are a disgrace. Reading these other reviews, I am dumbfounded. Come on down and see for yourself.

  • Pearl Nardo

Probably the best Coles I’ve been to so far, great range of products (some not found in other Coles stores). The quality of their fresh produce also seems to be much higher than other stores especially those located in lower income suburbs (e.g. Browns Plains)

  • Tree Mcfartman

The best supermarket I have found this close to the city. The store is large, well stocked, clean, and the veggies last for ages. The people here are lovely too. Definitely worth the extra drive to get here rather than the inner city supermarkets. Awesome!

  • x Sass

It's an average Coles. No fancy pizzas & pasta etc that some other Coles have & could be expected in an area like New Farm but it has the standard lines. Limited availability of seasonal items too. Edit 2022/04: There is now a mochi ice chest freezer!

  • Junyan Tan

My go to supermarket even though Woolworths Newstead is closer to me. Nice friendly staff and wide selection. Nice flowers on display as well. Gets pretty busy Friday evening and Sunday mornings but aisles are still wide enough that it's alright.

  • Jack Stone

New Farm is generally a good experience but you also become accustomed to the good service, however tonight I was pleasantly surprised by Jo. All I asked was where the cakes were (the generic mud cakes) and he directed me to them, but then

  • Mrityunjaya Das

Toilets and area very clean and competent and service minded security guard on Tuesday 17 October and hopefully he's regularly there as well . My only shopping today was at the fruit and vege shop and it was an inspiring experience as well

  • Stephen Oates

I love shopping down there there cheaper than Woolworths by far I love the very day prices that you have especially your coffee watchers thier cheap as and In my own personal opinion anyways and each and every staff member they have they

  • Andy Ong

Has your standard range. It's currently undergoing a renovation (August 2019) so hopefully when it's completed it will become a new format Coles. Also hoping that we will see a better deli and butchery range with better quality items

  • Kyle Forster

It's great. There's genuinely everything you need. Except on Sunday evenings. They don't seem to restock from when it's raided during the day. So alot of things are generally not available at that time. Other than that. Great!

  • Bill “Brizbill” Simon

Busy, plenty of people queued up at opening time seeking to panic buy. Don't panic - this store is well stocked with most items so no one is going to go hungry. Full marks to the staff who are handling it all with good grace.

  • Penny F

Very helpful staff. Prices are better at Aldi but the selection here is very good. It gets busy here though so I tend to shop late. The store is open until 10pm which is a real plus. Would recommend this Coles to everyone.

  • Tru Review

Have been going here for many years but it is a disappointment. So many times they are out of stock and its not good enough to blame Covid - all the competitors have to deal with it as well but seem to manage far better.

  • Jalil Yaghoobi

Out of all the cashiers, I found only one of them smiling and polite. Others are the most horrible cashiers I've ever seen in this country! I have to go there regularly because there is no wooli nearby, but I hated it.

  • Dave

These guys charged my card twice after using pay pass at the self serve check out. Trying to sort it out now, but very dodgey. Be very careful and check your transactions as I feel like this is not an uncommon thing

  • Rebecca McCabe

Ban the bag!!! Show some leadership and protect our environment. No one will ever learn to bring their own bags if you keep giving them to them. Such a shame as I use to like shopping at the store. Boycott Coles!!

  • Bradley Bulman

I love shopping at newfarm as of course I used to work there back in 2017 and it's still an amazing place to shop, especially the cafes around it, making it pretty convinent also staff are super friendly …

  • Harry S

Yet again, just a standard Coles, but located in super adorable Merthyr village. The new farm village though itself carries a warm welcome and is packed with all the essentials you need from a shopping place.

  • shelly nydal

Got served by Liz today and want to say what a beautiful lady she is and the customer service was above and beyond, it’s nice to see people that still have good customer service as it’s sadly being more rare.

  • James Freeman

Good range and layout. Produce was excellent quality and reasonably priced which was impressive. Staff were friendly and helpful. It's great having a very well stocked supermarket in the middle of New Farm !

  • Areti Alexandrou

Consistent. Staff are helpful - however some of the young people at the self serve - look up and around and help people before they ask you instead of standing there dreaming - you need to lift your service!

  • GreekOzyGirl

One of the best Coles I've been too, clean fresh produce, every thing you need that a proper supermarket should have is within reach, staff are well mannered and friendly, always a pleasure shopping here.

  • Vanessa T

Akbar is an absolute legend!! We were looking for capsicums and he notified that they ran out, but then he came looking for us in store to tell us that the capsicums are back in stock. Such a top bloke!!

  • Lana M

Usually have no problems, but yesterday I was checked out by a lady by the name of Relle. She made me feel very unwelcome and awkward. Didn’t even greet me, I think her only words to me were ‘cash out?’.

  • Chris J

Pretty terrible, worst self checkout systems ever, no open real checkouts, no staff monitoring self checkouts, so couldn't get proper help, was so close to just abandoning my shopping and walking away.

  • Andrew Johnston

I read somewhere that Coles New Farm was the most expensive Coles supermarket in Australia. But they do have the most diverse staff you'd find anywhere. Don't take my word for it, check for you self.

  • Donald Earl

For a Coles in such an affluent area, it is actually terribly stocked and dull. Very few pleasant staff members too sadly. No wonder everyone seems to be heading over to the Woolworth's at Newstead.

  • Sourabh Jain

Confused entrance, as many of customer don't understand where to enter and as well as where to stand for service counter. Require clear sign or marking with social distancing to keep everyone safe.

  • Astra Luna

Parking upstairs and underground, plenty of shops in this little complex you have Coles, public toilets, wheelchair friendly, chemist, fruit an veg store, newsagents, post office etc, dog friendly

  • Tracy Lowis

Opens earlier and closes later than any other Coles in Brisbane. Perfectly suited to inner city living with a full range of products, unlike the Woolworths Metros that are popping up everywhere.

  • Rave Masters

I am finding it very cheap comparing to the "Big Guys" Very helpful staff and most of products look really fresh. Evenings are packed with people so I'd advise to do your shopping before 6pm. ;)

  • Barry Johansen

I consider it the best supermarket in the Fortitude Valley area. Hours are great, opening at 6:00am and closing around 10:00pm. Easily accessible from the valley by bus (services 199 and 196).

  • Ozaq

Great location and big enough car parks. Organised well and variety of goods and some of them are reasonable than other markets especially in veggies. Just lacking of tofu variety …

  • Maureen Rees-Davies

I had to write. First time ever to thank your happy, helpful wonderful staff. It really does make a huge difference shopping knowing the staff are so lovely. I won't forget. Thank you.

  • sudip bhatta

I have visited number of close but coles in New-farm is always best for me.staff here are very polite and helpful. They got quality of product n butcher.i wish all coles are like this.

  • John Fahey

The staff member that served me was very friendly. I rarely shop here as it is out of my way and a bit hard for me to get to as I have to catch a bus there but the service was great

  • Zander Hulme

They have a fairly decent "international" aisle, a good cheese selection, and a fair range of substitute foods/ingredients for folks with various allergies or dietary requirements.

  • Garry Mobbs

The staff were so helpful. My greatest compliments to the staff in the manner that these staff are able to conduct themselves under the pressure of on line marketing. Thankyou.

  • Brad Minhinnick (Brad M)

For the area this place is located, it’s quite run down. Limited options, especially if you’re looking for chicken thighs. Endless packs of 1.5kg but not many 500g? Odd.

  • Christopher Linderman

Have been a few times. Always Busy. Well Stocked and Tidy. Prices are not too far above average. Staff I have come into contact were Polite and Helpful. Coles is Coles.

  • aaron edewards

Shopping for groceries in Australia is pretty surreal, but Coles is further from the universal experience than any other chain I've visited. You have to rent the cart.

  • Damien Malczewski

Good size and variety. Only mistake I made once was not checking the used by on a tip top the one loaf of bread. It only had 2 days left. But that's mostly my error.

  • Scott Harris

Extremely slow service any time of the day. Understaffed. Few real checkouts open! Prices match those who can afford to live in New Farm! Go elsewhere if you can.

  • Icaro Ibanez

Dave was super-efficient and friendly! He went out of his way to find some articles I couldn’t find and was great about it! I will always do my groceries here!

  • Meg Gillan

The power went out I expectedly and the team worked very hard at keeping things going smoothly despite it. Great work guys and that’s for keeping it together

  • Sandra Wilson

Such a lovley store but i was especially dissapointed to hear the employee "David" was talking to staff. It really bruought down the mood of my shop and day.

  • Virgil Burns

The place is usually clean and tidy and the shelves are stocked and all the staff are nice and friendly but why is it more expensive here than other coles ?

  • Dean Account

Good staff always helpful . Most recently renovated Dec 2019. Major improvement plus they sell the best cooked roast pork ever. Trust local guide reviewers

  • Em L

Staff are very helpful & friendly; it has a nice local vibe. However the shelves are often lacking stock for weeks & quality of produce is average at best.

  • Julieanne Hupalo

A good selection of other shops, cafe, clean toilets close by. Lovely selection of flowers- I stopped to get a housewarming bouquet and they were lovely!

  • Melanie Sharpe

Awesome flat bread made in store behind a glass panel. Come at the right time and it’s warm. Bakery is a huge bonus. Lots of vegan products in store too

  • Mark Bennetts

Recently refurbished, but less than average size Coles. It would have benefited from a more sophisticated deli section like many other Coles now have.

  • Christine Andrews

Very convenient, has everything we need. There is a good range of products. There are always great specials on. Staff are friendly and polite.

  • giuseppe palumbo

Good selection of vegetables and fruits. Reasonably priced. Fresh fish and meats. Huge selection of breads. Our favourite shop. Recommended

  • Jacqueline Kerr

Good range, quality of fruit and veg is great and also good range of cut flowers. I find 8 out of 10 staff very friendly and helpful.

  • Lara Arden

There’s always some good bargains to be found in this store. Parking is easy. It’s get in and get out. And with good savings too. ☺️

  • Mace McColm

Always out of stock of essential products. Always a better option to shop at woolworths gasworks and save yourself a drive later on.

  • Savita Requi

Amazing food selection. Way more vegetarian options than my local Coles and great selection of prepared meals and snacks.

  • Latwerka Sinnamon Chanel Phillips

We love Luiz! He just brightens up Coles New Farm for us and we hope he's being treated well by the company! Great work!

  • D.R Geraghty

Very busy store but plenty of checkouts including self serves. Plenty of stock and wide aisles. Friendly enough staff.
