Our favourite go to cafe on a Sunday, especially when the farmers markets are on. It is always pretty busy and popular, a great place to meet for brunch or grab a coffee. You can order a bowl of coffee, a popular choice for some coffee lovers . They do good meals and have specials that change from time to time. They do all day breakfast, which naturally makes me happy as I adore a good poached egg. Their housemade granola is pretty good too. If you have a dog, they are dog friendly and allow them outside with you. Most of tables are well shaded, but some outside get a little bit of sun as the shade shifts. Inside seating is air conditioned. The cafe is a short walk from the mitchelton train station if you use public transport.

Met a friend for coffee. The coffee was delicious. Unfortunately, I didn't get served for a few minutes due to the staff ignoring me. For that reason, I didn't have any of the food options available. However, my friend did, and she said it was delicious.

Parking
Because it is a main road, street parking is generally only available for 15 - 30 minutes. If you are lucky there is a car park behind the cafe & you might get a park there.
Wheelchair accessibility
If you are able to get the wheelchair accessible parking, the cafe is somewhat wide enough between the tables for a wheelchair. But you would have to ask the staff to move things around.

Was very disappointed as have been to your Ferny Grove cafe and have enjoyed the coffee. This morning my husband took me out for breakfast. The service was awful. The staff were working but they clearly didn’t want to be there and customers seemed to interrupt them. My avocado on toast was terrible. The avocado was brown. The whole thing was covered in lettuce so you couldn’t see the brown avocado. I ended up having my husbands avocado on his plate after I scraped mine off and it ended up being quite pleasant. The coffee was Luke warm and bitter and watery I couldn’t actually finish it. We waited a long time for the coffees to come, they came out when we had almost finished our food. I was just really disappointed because I know the cafe can do better.

Had the Almond and Berries Frenchy, was super tasty and surprisingly filling. Probably the best French toast I’ve had to date. Nice cafe, lots of seating and even has kiddie seats for little ones which is a plus for me! My husband ordered the big breakfast and that was also very impressive and he was super full after his meal. I had a mocha which was lovely and hubby had a lemongrass tea which was a loose leaf tea so full of flavour and delicious. Food came out quickly and service was good and reasonably priced. Only downside is parking in the area isn’t the best. There is lots of parking across the road behind the thrift shop area as the parking directly behind the cafe is mostly for customers for the surrounding businesses and the chemist. Definitely will be back to try out other items on the menu

It's easy to see why this place is so busy. Coffee was a solid offering and arrived in good time . Was also a good temp without the need to ask unlike other tepid offerings that are the trend. The food was delivered quickly considering how busy it was a sign of a well practice team. Our meals were flavoursome and well prepared. Would have liked to see table service but counter service helps pace orders. The onlyndetractor was the noise from the metal chairs being dragged by other customers which was a bit loud at times. Well worth the trip and well worth returning to.

This is the best little cafe in Mitchelton! On a street which has several other cafes, the tables at Blackwood Cafe & Espresso Bar are always full of customers. To me this says that the coffee is good, the food is yummy and the staff are friendly. I visit this cafe weekly and cannot fault it. They make great coffee and delicious smoothies, the all-day breakfast and lunch menu has something for everyone and the new all-day dinner menu is a wonderful edition, not to mention their berry cheesecake is seriously the best ever!! They have recently just opened their bar, and the wine and cocktails are amazing too. The staff are always happy and friendly and even wave to us every day when we walk past with our dog in the morning. This is a great puppy-friendly cafe!

  • Samantha McKillop

Went around 9am on an overcast Sunday morning and despite being busy, we didn't have a wait to get a table for three. They have indoor.and outdoor seating. A few people had their dogs there and they sell dog treats. You'll be seated by the staff, but ordering is at the counter. The menu has quite a lot of options but the counter also has a lot of smaller items like breakfast wraps and sweets etc that we got. I had the breakfast berry smoothie and it was good. Coffee was ok and the service was quick and very friendly. There is a parking lot next to the cafe that had quite a few spare parks, parking on the street was pretty busy.

I know it’s a busy day - but the fair and open and appreciated thing to do is if customers are ordering coffee let them know that it is almost 1 hour waiting for takeaway coffee - just don’t do it guys, really poor - yes, I could have asked how long, but your the business relaying on customer satisfaction and coming back … had mum waiting at home so instant it had to be .. Thanks for the response Hayley and for the explanation, no need for a voucher although the offer is very generous and appreciated. I was just providing some feed back which helps with the overall experience - the reason why we go there is because your coffee is very good - in my opinion best in the hood.

  • Jason Prins

We visited on a weekday mid morning. The cafe was quite busy with very few vacant tables. We helped ourselves to menus located inside the cafe. There is a good selection of food and drinks available so most people will likely find something they like. The service inside the cafe when ordering was very good. Our order was delivered to our table within 10 minutes which was good. My biggest concern is how tight the seating area is. The tables are very close together which makes it near impossible to have a private conversation with someone you are dining with. For this reason alone i would not go back. I prefer more space for myself than is available at this cafe.

We travel around to find the best coffee and today at Blackwood espresso bar we hit the mark . Unfortunately as a senior citizen we were not offered any senior discount which is sad in today financial debacle Like I said the service and the coffee was great until we also ordered the carrot cake which was a bit dry and did not come with cream , I did enquire about cream and was told this is at an extra cost it is not hard to bring clients back if there is a positive reaction. This is not criticism this is feedback from one of the hundreds of senior citizens going for coffee everyday.

  • Kayla White

Have grabbed take away coffee from here countless times on a Sunday when THE Elixir is closed and unfortunately this place doesn't do the Elixir beans justice. I think I have had a decent coffee from here once. Usually either bitter, or burnt, or half my shot missed the cup (as it seemed to today). There are a couple of guys there who are lovely and super friendly when hanging the coffee out, but most of the staff have attitude problems. Unfortunately done giving this place a go, which is a shame considering how much we like the other two cafes of this group.

  • Ben Malatzky

Good experience, can usually get a seat inside. Coffee is consistently good. Food is very good, can generally cater to extra requests and always served on a welcoming environment. High chairs are available and babies are welcomed. We enjoy coming here so this review spans about 4 months and about 6 visits. The missing 5th star is because outside seating feels a bit crowded and it's not easy for those with mobility aids, pram, wheelchair etc... We have a baby with us and don't bring the pram in. inside there is enough room but not outside.

  • David Seamans

I went for breakfast on a busy Saturday morning for the first time. I had some picky requests on how my meal was to be prepared. They "aced" it. The eggs were perfect, the bacon not crisp and the pancakes light. The coffee is very good and flavoursome, not watery. The waitresses are friendly and helpful. My friend's breakfast was similar. We came away very impressed and have gone back a number of times since. The only drama is that it is so popular that and space is limited, you may have to wait to get in. But it is worth it when you do.

  • Carl Hensley

Probably the best place to have breakfast in gaythorne, speedy service and great food. However take care ordering takeaway both times I have the orders I opened at home are not what I ordered, I should have learnt that the first time, so check before you leave... I did mention this to the staff on my next visit but they did not seem interested....

The lemon and lime tart, muffins and coffee were brilliant especially with today's weather. Really appreciate the friendly staff looking after us on this rainy day and going above and beyond to not only find us a spot (with a one year old!) but also providing us with alternate seating with the rains coming down. Will be back for both the delicious food as well as the wonderful staff who had a smile on their faces through the whole madness that is a Easter weekend service!

This cafe is amazing!!! The staff are so professional and so friendly, they know their locals orders and have them ready before they barely stepped in the door! It’s so nice to be able to go out and love every part of your experience! And the food...I don’t even know where to start, it’s just top quality and you can tell there is so much care taken with the menu and each meal made!!! I don’t have one bad thing to say about this cafe, definately 5 starts!!!

This spot is amazing! It always seems to be busy, has a wonderful energy and great staff! We had the haloumi on toast with buttered mushrooms and spinach, and the waffles with maple bacon. My partner loved the mango smoothie as well, and my coffee was lovely. Even though the cafe was busy on the Friday morning we went, our food was less than a 30 minute wait: and everything was hot and delicious! We will definitely be returning!

  • varinia street

An excellent cafe with great coffee & milkshakes! Friendly staff who are very promptly keen to serve you & have you comfortably seated at the tables outside! Wheelchair access to the cafe is available for the disabled ♿customers! I recently enjoyed eggs & bacon with hollandaise sauce with hash browns with a Vienna coffee. A great atmosphere & many families enjoying a meal together.

  • Rebecca Ulloa

Great for food. Just wanted to add that I think adding in a more consistent grinder onto the espresso bar may be very helpful as the coffees can be hit or miss and I noticed a click grinder and no scales to be able to weigh. Great food however and nice staff.

I have been coming to this coffee shop for about 8 weeks since starting work around the corner. I LOVE it!! Firstly, they open early! I'm always ordering shortly after 6am........winning!! Walking in and being greeted as "extra hot mocha" not only puts a smile on my face but speaks volumes with their attention to their customers. Funky. Friendly. Fantastic!! Well done Blackwood. Thankyou. ☕

  • Kodie Brett

Came in yesterday to try out the new bar, as I was very excited to have a local option that isn't the pub but was disappointed with the selection of beer. Only a couple of tap options and and very few others bottled. I understand it's early days and there's definitely lots of potential but until the range is expanded and offers more (or any really) craft options we won't be back.

  • Claire Wraith

Love this cafe - great little spot to come for breakfast, or any time of the day really! The food is always good and the staff are lovely, especially the young girls that work there - always smiling which is refreshing! The smoothies are great too, and would definitely recommend the avo toast

I was here for lunch with a friend. The food was quick to come out and tasted exceptional. The restaurant had a great vibe and everyone was having a good time. It was unfortunate that at the time I was visiting, they were out of a few of their top shelf whiskeys but other than that, it was a great dining experience. Definitely worth a visit.

I took my Mum and Goddaughter here recently for breakfast. The staff consistently checked in to make sure we were okay and enjoying our meal. The coffee was quick to come out and delicious. The food was good quality, and they even gave me a container to take home my leftovers. I can’t fault the quality and service of this cafe!

  • cheryl Verdon

My standard eggs on toast was good. one person at the table had the special banana French toast which wasn't great . French toast was cold and seemd like it was pre cooked because it's was dry and cold. Not the best. We all at table tasted and agreed disappointing especially as special on the menu . But coffee was very good. .

Hats off to Blackwood, come in at least once a week for the last few months and alway leave happy, definitely my favourite cafe in Brisbane. Food is always spot on, coffee and smoothies are DELICIOUS and staff are always friendly. So thank you and as I say after every meal ‘you’ve done it again Blackwood’.

  • Susan Reid

This is an amazing cafe! The coffee is consistently good and even when they are busy, you don’t wait long, even for a table. The food is fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and courteous, and nothing is too much trouble. They are cleaning well between customers, and are the best in Blackwood st.

  • LM S

Great food but wont be back. Allergic to dogs and there was a smelly unleashed dog laying in the middle of the cafe blocking access to any other table. Either ban non paying clients I.e. the dogs or limit access to the tables at the outer limit of the cafe for people who insist on having pets at cafes.

  • S E

Very overpriced for what you get. Customer service was lacking - doesn't even have table service which I would expect given the pricing of their food. Our food came out very quickly but it was much too quickly to have been made fresh to order. Pancakes were served barely lukewarm and were only average.

  • Damien Lynch

I've been a few times to Blackwood Cafe and Espresso Bar. The meals are always tasty and staff friendly, so no complaints there. I'm not a huge fan of the seating arrangements, particularly in summer where alfresco dinning can be a bit hot and the meals are a bit over priced (in my opinion).

  • Beatrice T

Always fresh, gourmet fare. Good selection of pre-made savoury and sweet food. Try the flavoursome Caesar wrap. A nice selection of breakfast/brunch favourites with a twist, including a vegan version of "scrambled eggs" made with tofu and kale. Haven't tried it yet but it looks interesting.

Very nice, I had the brekkie fritters and my partner had the bacon and egg. A bit on the expensive side but service was good and extremely fast. Coffee wasn't the greatest. I would come here again but not often as it is on the higher end. Definitely try it and dog friendly too.

  • Nicole Webb

Flavours were delicious however very small portions for the price. I was disappointed. I paid extra for gluten free, so it made it a costly breakfast & was left hungry after. New management is doing a great job, however portion sizes need to increase to make it worth visiting.

We've been here many, many times over the last few years. Meals are well priced, coffee is AMAZING (Elixir) and meals are always served quickly by friendly staff. Always clean and COVID protocols and spacing excellent. One of our favourite places to meet for coffee and brunch.
