Since I was young (late 60s or late 70s), I've always enjoyed the Assiniboine Park Steam Train. I never forget the smell of the fresh coals, always makes me happy. The engineer of the train is so nice. I remember one time in the 70s his father let me ride up front with him and blow the whistle when needed. Laws are tighter now days and that's no longer allowed. Also, thanks to COVID-19 the seats and rails have to be wiped down between each 7 minute ride and they actually had someone helping the engineer by doing that. One thing I gotta say is don't bring a cat or cats on the train. They don't like the whistle. I had brought my 2 kittens for a ride and they seemed to enjoy the ride, but every time that whistle was blown, I got clawed... lol

This ride is especially great for kids. We took our four year old granddaughter and she ate it up. The train is kept in tip top shape painted in bright colours and the experience provided by the lone operator is made very authentic in feel. Ticket sales, collection, and ride are very original feeling: the coal fired steam engine, steam whistle, clickity clack of the steel wheels on rails. You should try it at least once. $3.25 per passenger gets you a 10-minute circuit ride over a pond and through the Assiniboine forest.

Very nice individuals who run this program. My daughter absolutely loves the train. We have taken her twice already and will hope to take her one more time before winter is officially here. Great experience for children of all ages. I know the train has its limits but I wish it was a tad bit longer. Either way super happy about it and great people running it. Suggested for all parents to bring your kids at least once.

Great steam train with a lots of bogie. The sound that the train makes is great kids had lot of fun. Tickets are also cheap. There is ample parking and washroom. If you are in the park I highly recommend the train ride. We did that every time we visited the park as its my kids favorite thing. Check out the images and follow for more.

Spent the morning of canada day at assiniboine park and hopped on the first train ride of the day. The conductors/engineer and the guy in training were awesome and explained how the train worked to the kids. Quick ride around the track. Will be going again.

Rude customer service, racist. The smell is very bad for the environment. I expected it to be a modern way to run tje train , more sustainable way to run. Considering the air pollution, there should be a better way to run the matter. Not recommend

Awesome. Great ride for the family. Good break up of the day. Hope on the steam train. Go for a ride and see the real deal. An actual coal burning steam train perfect for the fam. Our little guy enjoyed it and the ride through the tunnel and around the park. It was great. Recommended for sure

Felt like a kid! It used coal to power the steam engine, Yes it's REAL STEAM ENGINE. It lasts about 8 mins. Kids will like it. Defi Italy worth the try. The train departs at set times so please check online or at the ticket counter. Please note children above age of ONE HAVE TO PAY FULL FARE

My 2 year old loved this. It's a 7 min ride for $3.75 a person that's ok in my books. My only complaint is how loud and high-pitched the whistle is. Had most kids covering their ears and made a few cry. I suggest sitting at the back of sensitive to sound.

Pleasant ride, approx 9 minutes long. Real coal operated steam train. Excellent for young children. Staff was friendly. We got to see many dear. Currently taking good COVID-19 precautions (enforcing physical distancing, rigorous cleaning procedures).

Their website stated they were open yesterday, June 30,2022 and for the second time this year when I drive in from out of the city it is closed. The phone number does not answer. I am very disappointed and hope someone buys it and runs it properly:

The steam train is EXCELLENT! The operator of the train is absolutely great, friendly & professional. I have never had any problems or complaints. It is a jewel of the park! (Anyone who has any complaints is too picky. It is a very fun activity!)

Love coming here with my dad! We try to go at least once every summer. Passing on the tradition by bringing my partner and our friends who have kids!

We had been looking forward to going on this train for over a year, it did not disappoint! Very fun, inexpensive (only $3 admission), informative conductor and got to see some deer on our ride which was awesome. Keep up the great work!

  • Angela Park

Yay for the train and for Tim Buzunis for keeping this treasure alive!! So happy to know that this iconic piece of history is still going strong. Major childhood memory for myself and so many others. There really is nothing like it!❤️

Great experience for a family. Kids love to ride a train with real tickets and a conductor. I usually use a coupon from the Save and Show book for an extra discount. Sometimes, we wait a little longer on weekends when it gets busier.

  • Tony Unger

Been riding this train every summer for the past 55+ years. Grandfather used to take us once a summer. And I love to do the same. Always worth the wait and the money! It's one of the things I love to do in summer!

Engineer blew the whistle easily 1/3 of the short train ride. Extremely loud, kids holding their ears the entire ride because they're afraid if it and babies crying. Would've been nice otherwise.

  • Cheryl Holt

Cute steam train ride, great for kids!! The zoo has a really neat Churchill experience including polar bears and seals! Also has a stingray pool where you can actually touch stingrays in a pool!

  • Sean Lindgren

Really cool train! My boy loved it and wished it was a longer ride.. the seats made me happy it wasn't

Train was cute. My kid really didn't know what to think about it. Very noisy as well... but it was fun to do something different at assiniboine park.

  • Brenda MacLennan

He needs help, lits of people but a few volunteers would be great. And also there is a lack of signage to get to the steam train somebody help her

We took our grandchildren last week. The wait was about 20 minutes and the ride was very short. But they enjoyed it and that is all that matters

  • Veronica Daigle

Kids thought it was neat, we even saw deer and bunnies. The wait to start was long so I had to keep the kids entertained for a bit.

  • Maria Garcia

This steam train is something unique in the city. We had a great time, the operator is helpful and nice, and is reasonably priced.
