Bike was in better working order prior to spending over $500 on new parts and labour. My recent repairs to my Mongoose Tetra SX mountain bike was completed at the suggestion of the technician after I said I wanted to ride my mountain bike offroad and it had been over 20 years since I had done this with this bike so just wanted to make sure the bike was working safely. I was just thinking looking at replacing brake pads and a brake service as everything else was operating ok on the bike. My bike is an old bike but is a high spec Mongoose with quality components. However, the technician suggested paying the most expensive services fee (about $180) as he suggested as I was doing this service I should replace a number of other parts (front and back cogs, derailers, chain, brake pads etc) the purpose of doing all this was it would mean basically all of the running gear would have been replaced on my bike as a result of this service and past services and repairs. I thought this sounded excellent and the promise of having my old bike fully reconditioned and operational sounded great so went ahead with the additional $309 service and repair which brought my total for repairs and services on this bike to around $500. To my inconvenience I have since returned to 99 Bikes Prospect four times after having the bike returned to me to fix ongoing issues. As a result of these follow-up visit’s my gear changes are now as good as what they were previously. However, my brakes don’t feel any more tighter/better and my bike has a squeak with every rotation of the pedals which is very embarrassing and frustrating. When I queried why my brakes feel no better than before or appropriately slowing me down on big hills, I have been advised by the technician this is due to my wheel being buckled and that they can’t put the pads any closer to the rim without then permanently touching. That’s makes complete sense but this should have been explained to me prior to the service and/or fix the buckled wheel during the service so my brakes can engage properly. The other ongoing issue with my bike is how noisy it is on every rotation of the pedals. What makes this more disappointing was when I called and spoke to the service team in 99 Bikes Prospect to advise how noisy my bike is I was advised by the technician to oil the chain and if this doesn’t fix it it‘s just the way it is because I have 3 cogs in front set and most new bikes only have one or two cogs and therefore the chain is rubbing at the front. After lubricating the chain unfortunately by bike is still noisy with every rotation and I’m still not satisfied with the performance of my brakes. It’s very disappointing as in my experience the service team don’t have the skills to work on and resolve issues/faults with bikes or the continued customer service to investigate and rectify outstanding issues, instead they have just stopped trying to resolve the issues.

DO NOT BOTHER WITH PROSPECT 99 BIKES - less then average customer service. All of my experiences with 99 Bikes Prospect has be less then rememberable. In fact - I should never had spent my time and money with them. I should had gone to an independent bike shop. All experiences, I have felt they did not want my business. The last encounter, which will be the last, I asked for a simple service on my bike - simple change of inner tubes (as I know there was a leak in the rear tube) and asked for change of tyres, for readiness for winter and they are showing signs of age. Do both jobs in one go - save money on a few tasks and my time. They changed the inner tubes from back wheel to front wheel and refused to change the outer tyres as requested. Very strange way to conduct a service and request by a customer. Now I need to spend additional time and money, and have what I requested to another bike shop to have these simple task completed. And yes the questionable inner tube - is flat as a tack regardless of inflating. Additional information Thank you for your response. But I will stay with my original opinion. My husband had his bike serviced recently - he requested that both his inner tubes be replaced with puncture proof tires. He was only able to have one fitted. For the lack of products available. My experiences with other businesses, such as Officeworks and the like - the salespeople will look up which other sites may have the product in question if available elsewhere. With the option of waiting for it to be transferred or I could go and pick it up myself. I feel that the pandemic can not be a reason for the lack of products. Not all service/sales people at the Prospect site seem to be not enjoying their work - for the noticeable exception of the tall chap with the dreadlocks.

I love 99 Bikes, Prospect! My old commuting bike finally gave up the ghost (rip) and I needed to get a new bike earlier than expected. I chose to get my bike on 12months interest free and it was so easy (note: it’s a good idea to go onto zipMoney and sort it out before hand. It makes things a bit quicker). I went in to 99 Bikes on Main Nth Rd and they really looked after me. I had plenty of questions because it’s a big decision to make when choosing a new bike. You want to make sure it will fit, will be suitable to your type of riding and if it’s a competitive price. On the day I went in, the store was very busy however, all the staff at one point helped answer questions and offered advice. Even though they were flat out they still made time to fit in a bike fit as well. I was really impressed with the service of all the staff and left feeling totally satisfied and completely happy with my new bike. Thanks guys for all your help you’re awesome and see you next time

The decision to join the ebike fraternity was fuelled by the 'converted' riders around me, but choosing one that was right for me was the challenge. With such a bewildering range of ebike alternatives available the opportunity to talk face to face with 99 Bikes staff, and to ride and compare bikes on my short list was invaluable. After 78kms on Max assist, throwing all my favourite climbs at my new bike, I was wrapped, it was a great choice. Workshop staff further enhanced the experience, willingly providing relevant advice after purchase. The Merida eSpresso 300 SE EQ is stylish and practical bike. I am only 55kgs which helps up the hills. Despite initially tending to a particular model and taking quite some time riding, looking at the bike, and exploring the possibilities for transport, I was then shown the Merida in response to some issues I had. No pressure to buy either. Alx, Tim & Daniel, thanks, I can't stop smiling, just like ebike riders everywhere.

They special ordered some fenders for my road bike (still got membership discount despite it being a special order!). The order only took a week and Noel (I think) went to a lot of trouble to fit them to my bike. I am very grateful and still don't know how he did it. They were supposed to fit but there wasn't enough clearance through the frame or brakes. Highly recommend this shop as all I've spoken to have been very friendly and helpful. 22 Feb 22: Still my fave bikeshop. All the mechanics are great. They take pride in their work and are more than happy to give friendly advice. Tom recently completed a difficult build that required a lot of problem solving and patience. He stepped up and did a brilliant job. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Tom and the rest of the team.

I bought a bike about a year ago (from Mile End) and since then I have gone to the Prospect store a few times. I went a few weeks ago and it was very busy. I spoke with Alex briefly, who helped me with my query. Unfortunately, I had somewhere to be. So, keep that in mind if you're on a tight timeframe. Or try to avoid weekend crowds. I attended a FREE bike maintenance class tonight and Sam was friendly and very knowledgeable! If you are new to riding and bikes, check the class out. And they won't treat you differently because you don't know bike stuff! Do yourself a favour... join Club 99! It's only $5 and you'll get member prices (you can also do the maintenance class). Just do it!!!

We went in today unsure weather we would actually buy a bike for our son who wears bikes out fairly regularly or not, we thought perhaps we would get him measured and see what they have, to give us something to think about. Axl the ‘dude’ who served us was very professional, answered all our questions (even the silly Mum who has no idea about bikes questions) he gave us a few options suitable to our sons needs. Popped in to speak about getting both our bikes serviced and where greeted by friendly informative staff. The gentleman that helped us was professional and very knowledgeable and took his time to assist us with all our questions and needs. We dropped our bikes off that afternoon and they were ready the next day. My sons and I have been buying bikes, accessories & having servicing done at 99 Bikes Prospect for nearly 3 years. Roger is a very experienced and knowledgeable mechanic - I trust him with all of the bikes - Road & MTB. Ross & team always give great service as well. If they don't have something in stock they get it in, at a very competitive price. I've had a couple of accessories that have failed - under warranty they were replaced, no problem, that shows great after sales service & thats the benefit of buying through a great local bike shop like 99 Bikes!

I went into the prospect store on Saturday morning with my son looking for a bike for him. Not sure if we just did not look the part for this store or the staff just could not be bothered but there were 3 staff members behind the counter, with no customers, when I entered, my son and I wondered around, not sure where to look and not one of the staff members asked if we needed assistance or even acknowledged we were in the store. We left after about 10 minutes with the staff members still behind the counter. We will certainly not be returning to this store.

The team here are super friendly. They are genuinely bike mad and are very knowledgeable about all their products. My partner and I recently got our bikes serviced here and got text updates throughout the service and notifications when the service team found something new or different to fix which might alter the overall service pricing. I felt informed and like I was a part of the process. Our bikes now run great!! Would highly recommend the Main North Road store as the team, but especially Roger, looked after us really well.

Been here a couple of times, didn't buy much but just asked for advice about my bike pump and then came in to get help on changing my tube. The boys gave me a lot of tips and tricks when installing the new tube and taught me a few things about the bike with no charge. They were very keen to help and share their knowledge. They told me about a maintenance class they provide after hours once a month and that really provided good value. Highly recommend for their service

Outstanding crew here. Tom and Daniel are real experts and have gone far above and beyond to fix a problem with an electronic derailleur. This was a Merida warranty issue, but to get the bike back on the road promptly we found a very effective workaround and Tom made this happen quickly. Highly recommend the service division. Bought the bike through them originally and this was very slick, despite supply issues. Always rapid with communication - highly recommend.

"Tim" is a scar on the face of 99 bikes. He lacked the basic customer service skills to deal with my query with a decent manner. Instead of trying to assist my query, he implied the issue was actually my fault and offered no other solution. I'm not quite sure how he is holding his job down with service like that. Footnote: The guys on the service team were terrific though and understood the issue and aimed to rectify it. Shame Tim had to drag them all down.

This place is worth it if you are after a new bike. We are only casual bike riders (weekend and bike paths) and even though we were cost conscious and not looking for an expensive road bike, the sales guy took his time with us and did not go hard on the up sell. He looked to give us the best price he could possibly allow even with a sale price already on the bikes and was happy to let us demo and took the time to find us bikes.

Luke at Prospect was fantastic. This is about the third occasion i have had dealings with Luke, who has serviced my bike. He is extremely knowledgable and provides great explanations of what work has been done. He finds ways to save money and i have full confidence in his ability. Nothing is a problem and often any work has been done on the spot if required. Very good pricing on work and very chilled atmosphere. The impression I got from this store, once you walk out with you bike these guys don't really want to know you. Even though you going to spend good money. The bike I got from them is quality but the service after that was no where near any level of standard. A customer that spend any amount money should get some sort of customer care.

Pretty disappointed. Went in today to get a couple of tubes and tyre. They didnt have the products which is kind of understandable because of covid. However, the person i spoke to was rude, abrupt and wasnt interested in being helpful. They tried to sell me a cheaper product for the same price as the original one i had requested.

99 Bikes at Prospect did a great job selecting a bearing on a Sunday afternoon for an older mountain bike which was in critical condition 300 km away on the Mawson Trail. Went to this bike shop for proof tires Thorn. Nothing in stock for a standard mountain bike 27 inch. Offered to sell me some green puncture proof liquid but guess what none in stock the guy was very scattered and seemed all over the place, not a very good first experience
