This is the best dental place I have been to. I have had excellent dentists and dental experiences in the past but this place completely changes the way I view the entire dental experience. Dr. Zhao and Dr. Dawson are the best dentists I have had. Aside from the excellent dental work, they are kind and genuinely care about the well being of their patients. As an example, both helped me with a painful dental emergency over a holdiay weekend. Dr. Dawson was quick to respond to my message and she made sure to follow up with me throughout the day while I was waiting for my medications. When there was an issue with the pharmacy filling the meds, both contacted the pharmacy immediately and Dr. Zhao actually came in to the office to ensure there wouldn't be any further issues with filling the prescriptions. They both could have referred me to an ER or Urgent Care, especially given that is was a popular holiday weekend, but didn't. They genuinely care about their patients. Between my family and myself, we have had a lot of dental work done. Wisdom teeth removed, cavities filled, implants placed, root canals, etc. My family and I haven't had a bad experience at this office yet. Treatment options are always presented and I don't feel like I am being pushed into a more expensive option. Taylor, the benefits coodinator, does an excellent job of answering my questions and what I love about her, is that I trust she is going to get me the right answers, even if it is not something she has available at the moment. My dental hygienist is Charlene and I couldn't be happier with her. She is incredibly proficient but still gentle with the cleanings. I enjoy chatting with her in between the cleaning processe and she keeps me up to date on the latest products that might be good for me and my family. The office staff are knowledgeable, friendly and a pleaure to talk to. The dental techs are friendly, experienced and help keep the visit relaxing, which is nice when the potential exists to experience some kind of discomfort during the visit. The office is incredibly clean and has everything needed to complete dental work in a single visit. When I have had a crown placed in the past, I had a couple of visits spread over a few weeks while the crown was being made. There is no messy impression that needs to be taken of my mouth because the office has technology that can scan these areas and have my crown ready in about an hour, if not less. The technology is so good that when the crown has been processed, there are just a few minor adjustments that need to be made before it is placed. I actually look forward to my dental visits now, which is something I never would have thought possible. I absolutely would recommned this place to anyone looking for high quality care!

I have been going to Rancho Penasquitos Dentistry for 2 yrs. I would have given above 4 stars but my experience with Caitlyn at my last teeth cleaning was rough, painful & horrible I went in Oct2023 for my teeth cleaning , was told Charlene moved & Caitlyn will do the cleaning. I could not cancell be ause I was already in the clinic. I felt Caitlyn hitting all sensitive areas & nerve endings. I asked for more numbness gel & Caitlyn refused, she said"to tell you the truth those numbness gel does not work." Cleaning continues, I asked stop & see Dr. Dawson because I could nottake it anymore. Dr. Dawson came & finished the cleaning. I was going to cancel my next appt in Jan & look for another dentist. Thanks to Chelsea - answer the phone- she told me Charlene is back. Kudos to Chelsea went above & beyond in looking for schedule with Charlene. I am happy Charlie will be doing my cleaning & I don't have to look for another dentist. Kudos to Dr Dawson for being Amazing dentist. Updating my review because I was thinking about this horrible office the other day, and came back to the office page to see if any new reviews were up that match my experience, and was shocked to find a ton of one star reviews all accusing this office or upcharging, upselling, and telling people they need work that they don’t. If these reviews had been around before I came the first time, I would have never made it through the door. I came here and they had a tech, not a hygienist, take pictures of my teeth while they were doing x rays. Without telling me they were doing it or explaining anything, they then tried to charge me $30 each for the four pictures they took of my teeth. What did they use these pictures for? To use as references as they tried to upsale me services. It’s really hard for me to go to the dentist, it was a big deal for me to make it through the door, I made this clear when I called and scheduled and brought headphones with me and everything….and they didn’t even clean my teeth. They insisted I had serious issues going on and needed to pay $800 on top of insurance to have under my gums cleaned. They didn’t provide a basic cleaning, and they shuffled me out the door. It didn’t feel like a dental visit for cleaning, it felt like a sales pitch. I ended up not going back and scheduled with a dentist elsewhere. The dentist and hygienist from this different office felt I did not need under the gum cleaning, they cleaned my teeth, and the entire experience was night and day. They also said my gums were healthy and I had no loss of bone density. It just showed me how messed up my visit with this office was and I’m so glad I never came back.

The male dentist Shane Roberson isn’t good. Everyone else and everything else is absolutely wonderful, the front desk staff, the technician who took my X-rays, Charlene was great, and my first appt was with Alexis Dawson who was ok (not great because she wasn’t very friendly or inviting, but not terrible like the dentist Shane). It was my second appointment for a teeth cleaning, and my appt was scheduled for 2:30 (the dentist is supposed to see you at your appointment time, like the first time I went and like every other dentist appointment I’ve been to) The dentist Shane Roberson didn’t arrive until 3:30 almost, much much after Charlene finished my cleaning. She even stopped by again after she was finished with my cleaning and mentioned, “Oh, Roberson hasn’t stopped by? I’ll remind him.” He arrived 20 minutes after Charlene said he would remind him and then dentist Shane Roberson didn’t even apologize for being an hour late, then continued to ask what my weekend plans were like he cared about me as a patient, which he clearly did not by being so late and not even apologizing. Please save the pleasantries and provide some professionalism. Everyone else on staff was great, so 2 stars for that and Charlene was amazing the two times I visited this practice. She seems to carry the practice with her inviting personality and great work she does. I have two cavities that I was going to get done, but definitely not at Rancho Penasquitos Dentistry because of the male dentist Shane Roberson. If you book an appointment, avoid him!

I have so many good things to say about Dr. Zhao. I have been terrified of the dentist my entire life. I spent most of my life living on the East Coast so I had no idea who to trust as my dentist when I moved to San Diego. I was seeing a Dentist who was trying to charge me for things that my insurance said they had never heard of. Needless to say I found Dr. Zhao and at my first visit I was so nervous I couldn't even look at her because of my fear and anxiety of the dentist. She talked me through the entire visit and everything she was going to do. Dr. Zhao is kind, caring, gentle, knowledgeable and understanding of my fear. The next visit I had with her she told me how much better I did. She told me that I was able to look at her more and make it through the appointment with so little stress compared to my first visit. I love her down to earth personality and her kindness that hasn't stopped throughout the several years that I have been seeing her. Dr. Zhao definitely gets to know her patients one on one and makes their experience pleasant. She knows I love cats and she talks about them with me all the time. She answers any questions I have before doing any procedure. She will even answer a question or make me more comfortable even while doing the procedure. I have never been happier with a dentist in my life. If your looking for a new Dentist, Dr. Zhao is definitely the perfect fit! She gets well deserved 10/10 from me!

BEST DENTIST OFFICE I’VE EVER BEEN TO!! From the moment I walked in the door I could tell this is the office for me.  I was welcomed into the office with a very genuine greeting.  I arrived to my appointment early and expected to get taken back closer to my appointment time, but they were able to get me back early!  I was very impressed by all of the updated technology they have integrated into their office to be able to diagnose treatment that is necessary. During the examination Dr.Zhao was very thorough in explaining each step in the examination process as well as the treatment I was in need of.  After reading a couple of the 1-star reviews I was curious to see what my out of pocket would be for my diagnosed treatment.  The front office team was very thorough in explaining what my insurance covered and what they didn’t.  They also informed me of the fact that the prices they show me are the contracted rates within my insurance and not prices that they come up with themselves.  So it sounds like the 1-star people reviewing their office just need to get some new insurance. They were then able to complete ALL of my treatment the same day as my initial exam and were sure to get my scheduled for my next cleaning on my way out the door. I cannot recommend this office enough, if you live in the area and are looking for a phenomenal team to work with they will not disappoint!

Excellent first visit with Dr Jiang and the whole team at Rancho Penasquitos Dentistry. He was very transparent about everything he was doing, explaining everything very well. I learned a lot about my teeth and what I specifically should do more of and be careful about. He's more conservative about dental procedures so doesn't try to push things that you don't necessarily need (which has been a problem with previous dentists). And they have a dedicated person who will come out and explain the insurance coverage for any proposed work, including laying out how much each one will cost you out of pocket. Which is incredible! It's always been so obfuscated and confusing at previous places. They also aren't at all pushy about doing particular procedures. It felt totally chill and up to me. Being able to make appointments online is also great, and they have a web portal where you can view appointments, past visit summaries, etc. Very handy and well organized. Recommend.

Update: I’ve now been admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics. They put a crown on a chipped molar instead of pulling it, and still in pain 2 weeks later. I told them I think it’s abscessed, please prescribe antibiotics. They refused, and insisted I just need it to be adjusted and within 24 hours I’d be fine. WRONG! I’m way worse, in excruciating pain, and despite calling them on a Sunday and their answering service said I’d get a call back within 30 minutes. WRONG again. Going on 2.5 hours now. Guarantee they will try to sell me a root canal, eventually resulting in needing the tooth pulled anyway. This molar didn’t bother me AT ALL until they put this crown on and now I just want to stab myself in the eye to get rid of this pain!! Save yourself and find a dentist that is actually competent.

Dr. Zhao completely lacks professional ethics. I informed her that my son had not had a dental check-up for 2 years, and she exploited this information to scare my son, falsely claiming that his gums were severely receding and that he needed an expensive laser cleaning. Despite X-ray examinations not supporting any accusations of cavities, she insisted that there were cavities. The key issue is that the inexperienced young man involved was extremely frightened, causing significant anxiety and concern about not receiving timely treatment. However, everything proved to be nonexistent when I found another dentist for a second examination，all of these issues were proven to be nonexistent！I feel that the dental introductions posted in the clinic, emphasizing her compassion, are simply ironic!

My mom and I recently started coming to this dentist location. We were recommended by our neighbors, as we wanted to move from our original dentist location in Chula Vista. I was scheduled with Dr Zhao. Before even meeting the dentist, ALL of the staff in this office are so friendly and attentive. I was very happy when meeting Dr Zhao, she is so personable. Everything is explained, and is easy to understand. During my visit I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Jiang. My mom is now seeing Dr. Jiang. When she was first scheduled for an appointment with him, I told her she would be very happy, and she was. He too is so friendly and personable. We are both beyond pleased with the staff and services at this location. We would recommend them to anyone.

I always have a great experience at Rancho Penasquitos dentistry! Dr. Zhou and her exceptional team have created a dental practice that truly stands out for its professionalism, expertise, and above all, the genuine care they provide to their patients. The entire staff at Rancho Peñaquitos Dentistry are amazing. The dental hygienists and assistants are not only highly skilled but also incredibly friendly and accommodating. This is the best dental practice I have been to! Everyone in the office is so kind and friendly. They are empathetic, great at communicating what's going on with your teeth, and pay close attention to how you're feeling during procedures. I've only had a couple appointments (teeth scaling, and a couple cleanings), and already my teeth are improving more than they ever have. I've had my teeth scaled a few times in my life, and I had the most painless experience with them. It was amazing. They don't try to sell you on extra dental procedures, and do a lot of preventative work, which saves time, money, and discomfort down the line. I truly feel like they care about me as a person, and about the health of my teeth / gums. I'm so thankful for them!

I've been going to this practice since moving to San Diego and cannot recommend them enough: the staff are all extremely friendly and helpful. I've had procedures ranging from standard cleanings, wisdom tooth extractions etc, and every doctor and nurse has been super kind and knowledgeable, and have always been very up-front in walking me through all of the options and how each option affects different factors. My experiences here have been very pleasant, with even extractions being very gentle and requiring minimal recovery time. Everyone here seems to enjoy their work and it really shows in their treatment and interactions with patients.

I want to say that it is fun to go to the Dentist, but really, who says that? I will say that this is pretty close to fun as you are going to get. I always have a pleasant, stress-free experience here. They are always very thoughtful in how they treat me and my entire family, and throughout the day of the visit, they strive to make you comfortable as humanly possible, always asking if we are feeling ok, genuinely striving to make our stay relaxed and enjoyable for the short time we spend here. I rarely post reviews but this office has been amazing. I recently brought my mom who has Alzheimer’s in after a lapse in treatment. They did a deep cleaning and crown all on that day. All the staff are so kind, gentle, and understanding. They are so good with their older patients. We originally found this office a year ago when we were desperately searching for an oral surgeon to take care of a bone infection in my moms jaw. They were the only office in the area that was responsive and helpful with the insurance and getting us in quickly. I would highly recommend this office for great care and fair prices.

Great dentist but didn't like the financial arrangement for an emergency crown. I have united concordia insurance (military) which is fairly good. Up front I paid my patient portion then and there. Dentist ended up using some sort of upgrade type filling which concordia doesn't cover. Now I'm having to pay an an $300 that wasn't covered by insurance. If I had known this before hand I would've shopped around more for different dentist. Will take my business else where and would recommend military families do the same.

This is an amazing dentistry office! Doctors and hygienist always take the time to talk to each client. They are thorough with their dentistry plan and advocate for whatever situation brings you to their office. The receptionists and office staff are welcoming and friendly. I love that reminders are sent out via text about upcoming appointments. People are usually sacred of the dentist but at Rancho Penasquitos Dentistry I always leave with a smile! I've been seeing Dr. Zhao and the hygienists at Rancho Penasquitos Dentistry for years. I followed Dr. Zhao from her previous practice as the care I've received from her has been unparalleled. As a medical professional myself, I can't say enough good things about this practice and recommend Dr. Zhao and her team to anyone that will listen. Do NOT come to this place!!! Such a SCAM. They quoted me for $2000 for a deep cleaning. After I switched to another dentistry, I received a bill of $165 for a x ray??? They are in my network and didn't disclose any x ray fees in advance. They didn't even dare to send me my quote after I requested it. What a rip off

The dentist and assistants were great. They informed me of the process as they went along. There was a miscommunication about insurance and out of pocket expenses but the operations manager was able to sort it out the same day.
