As someone with experience in the legal sector, I’ve seen some pretty unethical things, but this dental practice has got to be one of the most unethical, morally destitute practices I’ve ever dealt with. Even when trying to give this practice the benefit of the doubt, I kindly and highly recommend that you choose to go elsewhere. This world does not need medical professionals taking advantage of people who want basic healthcare. I know a lot of people who go into the medical field with a heart for people, and while there are policies and procedures to follow, it makes me sad when morals, ethics, and legality are forsaken in quantities, all to bill insurance quickly. The ADA has clear guidelines of what to do in the case of treatment refusal, and those guidelines were not followed for my visit. I would recommend this practice be ready for clients who actually know what legal and scientific questions to ask. I came in as a new patient expecting to get a general cleaning, but was told I needed a limited cleaning for signs of periodontal disease. In my 1.5 hours there, I asked why I could not get a general cleaning first and then come back for a limited cleaning so I could plan financially for the $300+ cost of the limited cleaning, post insurance. Not everyone can afford to shell money as quick as the practice is to bill it, not mentioning that it would take 4 different appointments. When I asked Dr. Golez to explain what factors in my x-ray show periodontal disease, because I don't have bleeding gums or bone loss, he said the buildup on the x-ray was too much to even see what millimeters are indicative of the disease. So you're telling me I do have the disease, but can't explain scientifically what factors in the x-ray show how a general cleaning wouldn't at least help us determine severity? Fair enough, but when I asked if walking out of there without a general cleaning would be even better, he said sorry, he just can't treat me. I asked “I just want to confirm that the practice is refusing treatment?” And he said yes. Daisy was also in the room. But conveniently when I called today, Daisy said “that was just misworded.” Even if it was misworded, that interaction is conveniently missing from the medical chart online. On the contrary, I was told today that if I signed the Notice of Periodontal Disease form, I could have had the general prophylaxis done as a courtesy. I was told the day of that that wasn't possible. When I signed out, the notice was already check marked for me, and on my health chart, it shows I refused treatment, even though I never checked that form or signed it. If you don't want to treat me, that's fine. But not being able to legally provide the documentation I requested in a TRUTHFUL way, and not being able to clearly describe why you're refusing treatment is rather questionable. If the why is "infection" and I can assume risk, don't go back and forth between your reasoning if this is an "assumed" possibility. Also, don’t go back and forth between when you can accept a patient’s Notice of Periodontal disease and when you can’t. This is ethically wrong. Let it be noted that I did not refuse treatment either, I asked if a general cleaning could come prior to the limited cleaning (aka the recommended treatment) and was told no. I said okay and asked for that detailed note to be reflected in my chart because I wanted to see how valid the recommended treatment was in a medical light versus seeing how much a general cleaning could help in the first place. I really wanted to give them the understanding that people mess up, but considering more than a month has passed and my insurance showed that they burned through so many of my yearly x-rays, and then I called and kindly requested that the medical chart display the authentic and true results of my interaction with the doctor and Daisy, the office manager kept dodging the questions with insurance limbo as if I didn’t understand what she was saying. Please do better. You are healthcare professionals, not salesmen.
Dr. Pierle (no longer at the dentistry), Dr. Holly, and the dental hygienists at North Park Modern Dentistry are really amazing, but the office staff and scheduling are what deterred me from returning to this dentistry. The first dental appointment I had at this dentistry, I was not even greeted when I walked in. The receptionist could not even spare five seconds to look up and say something along the lines of "welcome, I'll be right with you." She was not actively on a phone call, otherwise I would have been more understanding as to why she could not greet me (or the other patients that walked in behind me). The dental hygienist that took my x-rays was very warm and welcoming. Made me very comfortable and made good rapport. Drs. Holly and Pierle are amazing dentists, are very personable and professional and performed thorough exams and cleanings. The huge gripe circles back to the office staff. Their rescheduling system is awful. They send reminder emails about your upcoming appointments, but when you click the reschedule link, you can't actually reschedule it yourself - it just says someone will call you within 24 hours to reschedule. I had made this mistake and never got a call from the dentistry to actually reschedule Another huge issue I encountered occurred when I was never notified that Dr. Pierle had left, so they had to cancel my appointment. I preferred to see Dr. Holly because I had been seen by her prior. They were able to reschedule my appointment with Dr. Holly, but then out of the blue I got an email from Alicia, the operations manager, saying that they could not keep my appointment due to provider schedule changes. The office did not even have the time of day to give me a phone call to tell me of the appointment cancellation. Rather the email said I can just book my appointment online on their website instead of having one of their office staff assist in finding appointment availability. It's a great dentistry once you get past the front office.
Very dissatisfied and demoralized dealing with this company. I'm back in the chair, dealing with this same tooth over and over, and having to pay for retreatment after EACH unsuccessful, painful visit, for over two years. I call for HELP, my calls don't returned. Eventually I called dental office three times, this month, no reply. Thousands have been spent and they overcharge, underperform and I came over, and over only to be charged more and more and I have two insurance policies and still get burned. According to Delta insurance they are overcharging. The work there is so bad, that Dr.Holly chewed me out because she's "fed up with all the complaining " from other customers, so she's drawing line.... with me. I'M FINDING A REAL DENTIST THANKS FOR NOT BEING OF SERVICE. THIS PLACE DISCRIMINATE, MISMANAGED, OVERPRICED AND TERRIBLE SERVICE. I RAN FOR THE DOOR. I was told they didn't like my behavior, posting a review. THAT'S MY FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHT! YOU ASKED FOR A REVIEW, YOU GOT ONE Over three years spent on tooth a that caused me no pain until this office decided to give me a preventative root canal. Over $15,000 paid to North Park Modern Dentist for one tooth that . That's not treatment THAT'S TORTURE. A NOW A NEED DENTIST & A LAWYER!
The dentists that work there are really nice, but the office literally cancel about 70% of our family appointments. Not only do they cancel without warning, they don’t contact you to rebook, they make you contact them to book & then give you an appointment months after the appointment they canceled. Don’t make the error of hitting ‘reschedule’ on any emails, it literally just means ‘cancel & wait a few months’. They seem to have a real problem keeping their dentists, I have been going for 2.5 years & every 6 months my dentist is gone & it is a new dentist. Also, the X-Ray person is nice, but most painful & excessive X-rays! Ouch! Don’t even get me started on the passwords, apps & endless pages of signatures to just simply check in. I have had the same problems with the branch they have in La Mesa that I take my mom to. So we are going to change to a different dentist for all 5 of us. It’s a shame as if they had it even a bit more together we would go to this office as it is 2 blocks from our house.
Dr. Holly and the entire team at North Park Modern Dentistry are truly the BEST! Scheduling is a breeze, the staff are friendly and professional, the office is immaculate (and beautiful!), and Dr. Holly is amazing! I recently underwent Spark (clear aligners) and Dr. Holly was so thorough in explaining the process from start to finish. I am so happy to report that after only six months, my teeth look even better than they did after traditional braces I had when I was in grade school! Like many others, I stopped wearing my retainer after a few months of having my braces off and as expected, my teeth returned to their original state. I have wanted to straighten my smile for the last 30 years but always thought braces were "for kids". I feel so much more confident having pictures taken now that my smile looks exactly like it's supposed to! Thank you to the entire team at North Park Modern Dentistry for always caring for me and for my kids! We'll be seeing you all again soon!
I have nothing but amazing things to say about this office! The front desk was so informative from the get go on what to expect when I walked in for my first appointment which helped ease my anxiety entirely. Dr.Holly and her staff included have some of sweetest personalities and they really do care about any and all questions I had towards the work I needed. I ended up having to get a root canal which I was extremely anxious about, but honestly Dr.Alzwaideh was astronomical and I was falling asleep during the whole procedure I was that relaxed with a podcast on at the same time lol. Anyways if I could give six stars I would! Amazing experiences and amazing staff!!!
By far the best dentist experience I've had! I have super bad anxiety around the dentist so I haven't been in a few years. All the staff and Dr. Holly made me feel heard and comfortable while I was there, and didn't treat me like I was a burden or anything. They allowed me to take breaks if I needed, offered me support, and overall just made my experience so much easier. Highly HIGHLY recommend for anyone with dentist anxiety!
Friendly staff that worked to get me in on short notice, a rarity for first time patients. Bright clean office with amenities that live up to the modern in their name. Fabulous dental hygienists. I've never had to wait in the lobby for an appointment for more than ten minutes. They've taken both dental insurance plans I've had since coming here and the co-pays are surprisingly reasonable.
I love North park modern dentist ! Dr. Holly is the best literally so sweet, caring, compassionate and amazing at what she does . I feel so lucky I found her 3 years ago . All her staff is so so friendly and they are fast and efficient. I’ve had root canals , crowns and cleanings and all have been the best experiences. I highly recommend Dr. Holly and her staff for your dental needs .
Wonderful dental practice overall.. From Alicia to the dental assistants, to Dr Holly and Dr Alzwaideh...I am new to San Diego and found out I needed a crown and root canal.. The entire experience from soup to nuts was pleasant and easy(coming from someone who gets nervous for any dental work). Thank you for making my dental experience trouble-free...
I moved to San Diego in 2017 and had a hard time finding a new reliable dentist. I was referred to North Park Modern Dentistry by a friend and have had a great experience since. They’re extremely reliable, knowledgeable, and friendly. Their office is well run and I haven’t had any issues with my care. Couldn’t recommend a better place!
Had super bad anxiety to see the dentist! And i finally made appointment after more than 5 years and I couldn’t be more happier! Very nice and friendly staff! Dr Holly was so nice and amazing!! She made me feel so comfortable and heard! My two deep cleaning hygienist did a great job as well! Would highly recommend this dentistry!
I've been going here for a couple years now and even though I haven't gone as frequently as I should, (Justine will tell you) it's as if I never missed a visit. The staff is always courteous and attentive and very helpful. I, along with my kiddo visit this place and have never been disappointed with their service.
I love the staff here. I had really bad anxiety and fear when it comes to going to the dentist and they blew all that away. Dr. Holly is so sweet and has your best interest at heart and Justine did my cleaning and she was so efficient and so nice. I would highly recommend this place.
I hadn’t been to the dentist in over a decade and had a lot of anxiety about going. I was being a pain in the butt and the receptionist, hygienists, and dentist were all wonderful and willing to work with me to break my treatment down into manageable stages.
My two appointments for cleaning were great. The dental assistant was sweet and had a tender touch. She took into consideration I have a broken arm and made adjustments to her treatment to allow for the pillow she provided. I’ll definitely be going back.
This is my second time here. Much better experience this time! My hygienist, Monica, was really nice and did my deep cleaning in less than an hour. Best part, everything was covered by my insurance and they didn’t try to sell me more added services.
Dr. Holly has been AMAZING! I broke my front 2 teeth and she has done everything in her power and with her expertise to make sure I have an amazing set of teeth. She’s very honest and takes her time with you. Highly recommend!!
Michelle and Dr. Chammas did a great job cleaning my teeth and it was pretty quick too! Everyone there is super nice and they do a good job. I even got to pet a puppy while I was there!
Although I thought I was going to have a check up and cleaning, I learned my insurance didn't cover it but Dr Holly treated me so well that I was very satisfied.
