I dropped off my rental car at the repair shop on March 2/2023. Six days later on March 8th Hertz picked up their vehicle. Without even speaking to me first, my credit card was charged for $700! When I spoke with them they said the charge was due to a crack in the windshield which I was responsible for. The employees at the repair shop however confirmed that there was no such damage to the vehicle when I dropped it off. The manager Omer is a real piece of work to deal with. No professionalism whatsoever. Communicating with him was extremely frustrating. We only spoke on the phone once where we discussed the situation and he told me he was going to look into everything and call me back in a “few hours”. I didn’t hear back from him at all. The next day he had an employee email me instead which, if you ask me is just plain lazy, unprofessional and frankly cowardly. The crack that they initially deemed as my fault, was actually a stress fracture from being left out in the cold for six days! You’d think if they care about their vehicles so much, they would pick them up in a timely manner instead of leaving them outside in winter for nearly a week. I was told my refund would take 14 business days. It has now been one month since the charge and I have still not been refunded! It has been 20 business days.. I have never had such a bad experience with any other car rental company in my life!! It is not the kind of place that can be trusted with anyone's credit card information. They do not care about their customers. If you look them up on BBB you will see HUNDREDS of other complaints from customers who have dealt with the same thing.

I'm extremely disappointed!!!!! I had booked a Tesla a month before our rental date at the 5th Avenue location for my husband as a Christmas present. Hertz was aware of this and were very accommodating, saying they would even give us an upgrade to a Tesla Y for him as it is a present. I thought this was very kind. HOWEVER, when we arrived we were given a Tesla 3 (which is fine... not a problem) but it only had 48% charge and we were planning to go to Banff straight away as we had tickets to an event there. We were told we could get there and have 8% battery remaining. I am definitely not taking that chance in the winter. If there is an accident or a traffic hold up, then we are stuck on the highway without charge. (Rental companies rent vehicles with a full tank of petrol...of course they should rent a vehicle with a full charge) They knew a month in advance of this booking....we did not just walk off the street and say we needed a vehicle!!! We missed our event as we were trying to get more charge on it. The car was also extremely dirty inside and out - it was not washed at all from the last customer. Filthy. Plus, I am very cautious of car companies and check cars thoroughly before I leave the lot. The gentleman who gave us the keys was very annoyed I was taking photos and checking it. He kept telling me that he already did that and that he would be email me all the photos. He was very rude with me checking the damage myself. It's a good thing I did check it myself because the email with all the photos did not arrive. Extremely upset with this hire car experience and the ruined Christmas present idea for my husband.

I would give my experience withe Hertz zero stars if I could. Hertz cancelled my reservation 3 business hours before I was supposed to pickup the vehicle - telling us there were not vehicles in the city at all. How do you only know about having absolutely no vehicles available mere hours before reservations? This left my partners and I without a vehicle for our vacation since we had no time to re-book at a reasonable rate with another rental company. ALSO, when I called Hertz to verify there were in fact NO other options for us (which they confirmed) and asked for them to process my full refund - they told me I had to do my refund through Kayak since that is how we booked. This is NOT the case. I searched Kayak and found their policy that the rental provider would handle all matters related to the reservation after the reservation was made. I tried to call this Calgary location back but for hours nobody answered my call and I could not leave a message. I then called the main Hertz contact number for Canada and within 20 mins they had processed the refund for me by phone. So not only were all Hertz locations in Calgary obviously terribly organized in terms of actually having vehicles for their reservations, but they also lied to me on the phone about processing our refund. Will never be booking through Hertz again in my life.

Nachdem wir auf Grund eines technischen Defekts des Mietwagens (wir wurden vom Fahrzeug ausgesperrt und mussten durch einen Abschleppdienst das Fahrzeug öffnen lassen) zur nächstliegenden HERTZ-Station zur Regulierung der Kosten gefahren sind, wurden wir hier leider sehr schlecht behandelt. Man sagte uns, dass es sich nicht um einen technischen Defekt, sondern um ein Sicherheitsfeature handelt. Da es kurz vor Feierabend war, hatte auch keiner Lust sich das Auto anzusehen. Man verwies uns auf den Kundenservice. Auf unsere Bitte hin diesen doch gleich anzurufen, fragte der Angestellte ob er unser Telefon nutzen könne, da sonst Überstunden für sie anfallen würden. Statt den Kundenservice hat uns der Mitarbeiter mit deren Versicherung verbunden. Der Versicherer sagte uns, da wir nicht die Mobilitätsversicherung abgeschlossen haben, könne er uns nicht helfen. Mit einem "Pech gehabt" wurden wir gebeten jetzt zu gehen und die Sache am Flughafen zu klären, da hier unser Abgabeort sei und sie jetzt Feierabend haben. Am Flughafen wurden wir von HERTZ ähnlich abweisend behandelt. Letztendlich konnten wir nur über den Kundenservice zumindest unsere Kosten für das Öffnen des Fahrzeugs zurückbekommen. Insgesamt eine sehr schlechte Erfahrung mit HERTZ und deren Standorte in Kanada.

Made appointment online for 6pm when the store closed at 6pm. Made to pick up car the next day, when going in car that I booked wasnt available, I inquired what happened to the vehilcle I booked... which with attitude I was told "if you were on time for your appointment then that car would still have been avaliable" I explained how last appointment should be at 545pm or some message warning you about closing as I wasted a trip up there. I was then told "somebody's not telling the truth as I was here till 610pm" I showed my phone calls at 605 & 607pm to their store. Then asked why no one answered when I called, was told it's because we close at 6pm. When doing walk through and I pointed out chips on vehicle, when going over paperwork they were not marked down as discussed. When pointing out this info, I was given a sigh and put down 1 chip when there were 4 pointed out. On the form It stated two keys, I mentioned how I only saw 1 key and a fob.. agent took keys out of ignition and pressed a button on the fob and slowly said " two keys..." I mentioned how this is the worst service I've ever recieved when then I was told I was the worst customer. Absolute appalling customer service, I will not ever Shop Hertz again from this experience.

Quite disappointed with my service at Hertz. Started off well and serviced us the vehicle quickly. However when we looked at the vehicle before we rented we did a walk through of marks on the vehicle. They said not to notice or write down anything a loonie would not fit into. My husband had even said different areas but they said don’t worry it’s not larger than a loonie. We returned it on Sunday. They are not open on sundays so it sat in the lot until Monday morning. Then I got a call saying there was damages Monday morning. We kept the vehicle in good condition. We took pictures after and were confused where they were coming from. The damages we saw were ones that were there when we got the vehicle. We never did anything to the car. When asked further they said we will be sending you an invoice for the damages. We asked what they were and how could we know that they weren’t from them. Because the vehicle had been clearly moved from our pictures to the ones they sent us. I asked when we would see said invoice and they said not for 30-60 days. I’m frustrated with this whole process. I feel as if they blamed us without really thinking of other options. I’m more upset that I didn’t take photos before hand.

Here is a review you will not often hear from me about a car rental place. Unfortunately I have had my share of having to rent vehicles and I'm sure some of you have read my reviews on one particular place that had my review taken down through their legal department. Anyway the little place they call Hertz is also Dollar rental and thrifty all three in one. I won't go on and on about it but even though they do not advertise pick up they went out of their way to do that and for the return of the vehicle which was exactly the same as the car I drive ( they even matched the color for me) they happily sent me on my way in an uber to pick my car up from the shop. I was in and out quick upon pick up and drop off without a lot of chit chat, or questions with no phony laughter or fake smiles. I couldn't be happier with the service I had recieved. Oh and for the record this was the very first time I did not have to do anything to the car I received. I'm very picky about the cleanliness inside and out of any car I drive and 9 times out 10 I do interior and exterior shortly after picking up a rental but everything was too notch.

Our experience with Hertz was a nightmare. We had rented a car from Calgary to explore the national parks. We had troubles with the first car they gave us, AND with the second car they offered to us. Through all the car troubles we had, it was impossible to even talk to someone from Hertz as they would not answer the phone or return our call. We were left to sort everything out ourselves (we lost two whole days of vacations just trying to sort everything out: car assistance, trying to speak to someone at Hertz, towing, cab fees, renting of another car, etc). Communications were really challenging and frustrating. We rented from them in september 2022, and they said they would reimburse the fees we had to pay for all the car troubles we've had... it has been 5 months and they still haven't refunded everything they said they would. From any company, ever, this was by far the worst customer service we've experienced.

I dont generally write reviews, but this was terrible customer service! My credit card was authorized two times with the wrong amount, and no one had any explanation of why? Instead of $ 50, they authorized $ 130 and again $ 250, which wasnt released for more than 2 weeks (still hasnt as of today). The manager did nothing to help the situation - promised a call back and never did. What kind of service is that !! Just because you have credit card information on file, doesnt mean you authorize customer's card without their approval. Authorization approval was given once in the signed contract for a certain amount only; no one gave them approval for authorization willy nilly as required. I dont feel my credit card information is safe with them anymore.

Staff were pleasant, but I waited an hour past my pickup time and the car still had not arrived (apparently it was supposed to be delivered from the airport location.) They said it would only be a "couple minutes." Half an hour later they gave me another car, larger than I wanted. But the most annoying thing was that they charge an additional $13.50 PER DAY to let your spouse drive. This is Hertz policy. I have never encountered that before in all the years I've rented vehicles. (If you are a Hertz gold member, it is waived, but they didn't tell me that.) This is a major problem when you are driving long distances. I was very unhappy and will never rent from Hertz again.

if i could give these guy's zero, i would. rented a car in the morning, and returned it at 6 that evening on a saturday. told them this was exactly what i was going to do. because they didn't process it till the following day at 10 am, they charged me for an extra day with no notification that they did this. my only notification was when i looked at my credit card balance. called them and they told me it would take a month to get the refund. they also tell you to sign the walk around sheet, that shows if there is damage to the car without them doing the walk around while you are still at the service desk. definitely a shady operation. go somewhere else to get a vehicle

Very disappointed with our experience here! We booked a car months in advance and had prepaid everything except for the one-way drop off fee and the security deposit. It wasn't until we got to the office that we found out they don't accept debit cards. They would not accept any other forms of payment, unless we could get a credit card holder to be there in person and put the booking in their name (this is very hard to do when you're overseas and know no one in the area). It's been more than a week and we are still waiting for our refund! Never renting through Hertz again.

Probably one of the best dealerships in the city to rent from- always go out of their way to accommodate my reservations and car needs. I've been renting from them month to month for more than 4 months and I would not deal with anyone else. Carlos and his team are very competent, professional and provide excellent customer service. Both Hertz and Thrifty in this location has terrible customer service. I called to change late pick up and they told me to do it myself online. So what is the point you are working there to helping customers. I don't have computer while I was travelling so obviously when I call, I need something to be done for me. And if the brand can't do anything, what are they good for?

Made a reservation for a vehicle with winter tires. Told them it must have winter tires, called twice more to confirm it has winter tires. Went to pick up vehicle and vehicle was gone. No other car with winter tires was available. They had no idea the car I reserved had left their lot, so I also didn't get a call that it was not there. Will never book here again.

I saw an unauthorized charge from my credit card, good thing I always check my statement in detail. i called them at once AND the manager promised to reverse them but up to now almost a month no refund was reflected to my CC. and I am surprised that there's a few comments here of the same nature. Not a good sign, not sure if our CC information is safe.

It was a late review but we rented a minivan from this Hertz/Thrifty location with pleasant experience. Our rental was a low kilometres, clean Sienna and it was ready on time so we had good start of our trip. All the fees were explained and stated on the rental contact. The employee also accepting my request taking the Toyota instead of caravan.

We are super happy with our Hertz rental. Not only the car and its performance but also with the excellent customer service. We rented a mid size car and went from Calgary to San Diego and back without any issues and excellent gas on milage. The price for renting the care was amazingly affordable. Will use Hertz again for sure.

I had received outstanding customer service here. They were able to match the price I was quoted by a third party and I even received a little better vehicle than anticipated. Super happy with my time there and I would definitely rent here again. Keep in mind, by renting here you avoid the 15,80% airport tax which can add up!

Friendly staff, poor vehicle cleanliness. They have a big sign that says “SMOKE FREE VEHICLES” and it is very clear that someone has smoked in this truck I was given. There is dog hair (now on my clothing) and sticky coffee spills in the cup holders.
