Though not a great experience like the other Skyscrapers, it was a nice little surprise to know that there was one in Minneapolis! Located in downtown, Foshay Observation deck is hidden among the new buildings and with no signs or clear direction, it is hard to get to this building through the maze of Skyway passages. The website mentioned an entry fee of $10 but at the counter, was charged an additional $5 per person. On questioning, was simply told that the entry fee was revised recently. Got an access card to take the elevator to the 30th floor, where a completely nonchalant museum employee sat there, not speaking a word to the visitor. The museum is a small one, with some details around Foshay business and developments, not so exiting. Above the museum sits the observation deck, which is too narrow even for just 2 people. Given the fact that it was built long ago, the deck walls were high for safety reasons, which restricted the viewing experience to a larger extent. Tried making the best use of the visit but at the end, felt it wasnt worth it. On checking again, got to know that the access to this museum and the observation deck was free to those who stayed in the hotel! Would recommend this place, only if someone gets such free access or an entry fee not more than $10!

From my phone call to the information line on the website, to our arrival, the staff was top notch! There are few places left that understand what customer service, attitude, and an excellent experience in hospitality TRULY are. We were elated with our experiences! From the people attending the doors who look at you, engage with you, and take in the moment, to the fantastic woman, welcoming you with her eyes and warm smile as you approach the desk. To our delight and complete surprise the fee for the day had been waived to all as a courtesy of the manager. Another plus! It is disappointing to hear the complaints of the pricing... I have paid as much to park my car and not recieved near the enjoyment. My son and I drove 2 hours, endured horrific delays in road construction to see this destination - One of his Museum bucket list items... We were not disappointed ❤ We want all of you there that day - Sunday, October 27th 2019 after 4:00pm to know, not only is the Museum and the look out tower great, but it was all of you that made our experiences Spectacular! Thank you so very much

This is located in the W Hotel, and accessed by a dedicated elevator. You can get tickets at the front desk. The real attraction is the observation deck, the museum is small and not very impressive. It does have some interesting tidbits about Minneapolis history, the Foshay building, and it's founder. The observation deck is neat. Maybe not as tall as other monuments or observation decks, but offers a great view of Minneapolis. When we went, it was midday on a Friday, and we spent about 20 minutes on the observation deck, completely alone. It was like a private experience, and despite being cold outside, the observation deck was bearable without a coat. We were able to get up for free as hotel guests. I'm not sure if there are other discounts, but in February 2017, they were charging $8/adult to access the museum/observation deck. If you are in the Foshay, it's also worth checking out the bar on the 27th floor. Great views and historic vibe.

The worst run attraction in the Midwest. It took us several passes to figure out how to get in (skywalks close on the weekend, there's no signs for the museum), we finally found a tiny "Museum" sign by the elevator. Hit dead end in the elevator again until kind hotel employee pointed us back to hotel desk for tickets. Extremely grumpy woman got us card to use in the elevator, $24 for the two of us (I believe the website says $10). We made it to the door to observation desk and fought with the door for several minutes, as there's a clever warning about really high pressure governing the door. No budge. Several other visitors attempted the same and then my husband with his unminnesotan assertiveness used the phone to call and ask someone what is going on. Oh, the deck is closed for winter weather of some sorts. No apology or redunds. No, the "museum" is not worth $12 a pardon. Chicago this is not.

  • David Wilichowski

$10 per person to get in. The entrance to the building is a little hard to find and I ended up walking around the block before finding it. When reaching the top floor you have to walk up some stairs to get to the observation deck which is much narrower than I had expected but it had a great view. I would not suggest going in the winter although you can because it gets a little icy and slushy up there and there were some spots where I was walking in maybe an inch of water. It is also cold although there are some vents which send warm air out but it’s not much compared to how cold it gets. Overall it was an enjoyable experience but I’d suggest either dressing warm or going in the summer.

I have been longing to visit the Foshay Tower Observation Deck, but have put it off because of how terrible downtown has been. We finally decided to capture a beautiful sunset tonight and full moon rise. We went to their website tonight and confirmed they were open and the cost. Decided to park in the ramp for safety and convenience. Parked in the ramp only to find that we had to go outside and walk around the block anyway to enter the W Hotel. Waited at the check-in desk per the website. The host returned after awhile, she said the Observation Deck was closed for a private party. I asked how we could avoid coming way downtown and paying for parking and avoid the inconvenience? She said, "it rarely happens... have a good night". Do you validate parking?... No.

I’ve lived in the area for m any years, but this was my first visit to the top of the Foshay Tower. A fun visit even though the weather was windy and chilly. Purchase your $10 ticket at the lobby of hotel (located in the Foshay). They’ll give you a key card which will allow you access to the 30the floor, where the “museum” is located. This is a fascinating collection of artifacts detailing the history of the tower and its namesake. Worth a look for sure. Two short flights of stairs up and out the door you’ll be at the open-air observation deck. Check out my pictures to get an idea of the view. Highly recommended!

This place was amazing!! The view was gorgeous from the observation deck. It wasn’t busy at all, it was $15 per person which is not bat at all. The staff at the front desk were very polite, service was fast and they even gave us recommendations for more places to go since we were new in MN. It was very windy but still enjoyable, you definitely have to check it out. The lobby looked very nice and right next door there’s Manny’s steakhouse. Looking forward to going back and try it out.

It is good to have an observation deck to see the view of beautiful surrounding buildings in Minneapolis, but I hope they have a flyer on what we are seeing and the footstools to be higher so short people can see above the fence! The museum displays had newspaper clippings I had to stand and read in small letters rather than simple, easier-to-read titles we can walk past and get the idea. More children and elderly-friendly would be good too. My mom and niece in the picture standing on the footstools provided.

It's a small museum that has artifacts and newspaper articles about Wilbur foshay's life and the tower he built. The observation deck was unfortunately closed when we visited, it was under maintenance. It is just 2 flights of stairs above the museum on the 30th floor. The receptionist gave us a key card to take the 4th elevator up to the museum and it was free to visit just the museum. But it's 10$ to go up the observation deck for the city views.

Had a wonderful experience even though it was cold and windy. The view is great and would be beautiful in the evening at sunset. The customer service desk ladies were very friendly and helpful! I’d definitely go back. It’s $15/person but kids under 12 are free! The hotel lobby is gorgeous and there’s the Keys Cafe and Manny’s Steakhouse in the first floor of the building. There’s a cool bar on like the 27th floor too!

What a great experience, tons to read and learn in the museum, worth the price to me. Being to look out and see all of the city was a site that took my breath away! If you are afraid of heights I do not recommend this. You start out by going 30 stories up in a elevator then it puts you right in the museum. Once you finished looking through the museum you can walk up another couple flights of stairs you get to push the door open to the caged in observatory. It's a little cramped on space but definitely a ton of fun! Highly recommend!

  • Bobbi Huber

This is a great place to check out if you are into art deco, scandals, cool views! The museum is small but has interesting things to look at. The view is amazing! We had a great time being on the observation deck at dusk. I think you could squeeze the full experience into 1/2 hour if you don't read every word in the museum. Make sure to use the elevator furthest away from the hotel check-in counter. The other two don't have access to the museum.

I have been here a number of times but it had been years since the last visit. The Foshay Tower, once the tallest skyscraper in Minneapolis, now dwarfed by others, offers a stunning bird's-eye view of the city. Previously an office tower it now is an upscale Marriott hotel. Elegant and classy. And so nice that the hotel has allowed the observation deck to remain open. This would be an amazing place to stay while visiting or just simply stopping by to dine or take in the night life. Be sure to check it out!

  • Farhan Sadique

Amazing place, was almost going to miss this place. 3 minutes from Marriot, and 30 floors up from this amazing scenic beauty. We took time to read the interesting history behind, and the amazing life of Foshey unfortunately ended up in jail. They have heater around the deck, and very comfortable to walk around. Wish could see the night view.

If you like observation decks you will like this, otherwise, there isn't really much to see. The W hotel main floor deco (and washrooms) were just as interesting. Still glad we went! Also appreciate (even though we didn't take advantage of it) the come and go option that you have when buying access to the observation deck.

Nice to check out, great views, but being 30 stories is blocked by newer taller buildings. Museum area has some interesting artifacts from the old days. The touch screens did not work when I was there also, they are supposed to be informative about the building. 12 dollars is a bit steep for what you get, should be about half. Employees very helpful and friendly. Depending on how much you see and read could probably take about 45 minutes.

  • Sylvia Lin

The hotel staff suggested this place but I could not find ticket information on their website. The street entrance also does not have clear sign. I went in and talked to the hotel staff, who then very kindly gave me the key to the observation desk for free (she said it's usually $10/person). Nothing beat the free view! It was very windy day and it did get a bit chilly. Museum also has a lot of history about the place.

  • Anne Towner

The Foshay tower was great to check out and see the twin cities from the top. The museum area at the top was a little small, but it still gave some perspective on MN history of the era. I loved the lobby and the architecture and design pieces visible here and there in the tower that hearkened back to the style of Foshay's heyday.

We visited Foshay Museum and Observatory on 1st Jan. I read about it online before checking it out in person. The museum includes historical details on life of Mr Foshay and ups and downs in his life. This is a good spot to spend 1-2 hour and the sights are beautiful from the observatory deck.

A hidden gem! It does cost a little for admission unless you are staying in the hotel, but on occasion staff will allow you up for free. Once you are up there, there is a whole floor of history about the city and of the building. Next, make your way up the stairs to the only open air observatory deck around and check out the spectacular views! Bring your camera, it's one you will remember for a while!

  • M R

Fun place to visit if you are in town to learn some history. The open-air observation deck was neat. Decently-priced at $10 per person. Learned that that Foshay guy was a crook but got off easy because of his friends in high places and presidential pardons.

Pretty cool views from the observation deck. The museum is small but pretty interesting. It would be better if it was more apparent how to gain admission. Pay at the hotel front desk, get a key, and ride the elevator 4. Easy enough, but there's no signage.

Since I like getting up in high places like this observation deck, it was probably worth the expense. our visit took place on a cool winter day, and it was nice to have the warm air venting on one side of the tower.Perhaps the expense keeps away people who might other wise detract from the experience. A little museum offered some insight into the process of who foshay was.

  • Barry Thao

Really cool place to learn the history of the Foshay. They keep it original so you get a feel of how it was back then. Walk in and you feel like you back in the"Rollin 20s." It is on the 30th floor of the tower and you need a guest card to get up there. Interesting if you into history.

Small museum dedicated to the history of the building and its creator (who had a checkered background). Great views of the city. There are many artifacts but not much explanation about them or the building and the man. Allow about 30 minutes. Buy a ticket (a key card) at the front desk of the W Hotel and they'll tell you how to get to the museum (separate elevator).

  • Michael Bennett

Views you can’t find anywhere else of the city! Front desk employee was very friendly and provided some history before taking me to the elevator to the museum. One of a kind experience to learn about the history of Mr. Foshay and see the views!

I had a great experience when I visited the Foshay Tower this summer. Very easy to pay to get your card to go in the elevator up to the top floor. This is a historic building so I do understand that it is a bit smaller than the larger buildings that you can find in the city, but it is still tall enough to get a great view of the city of Minneapolis and beyond.

  • Kelsi Elizabeth

Very cool interesting. Foshay seemed like a really cool guy. Hotel is beautiful and knowing the history makes it a-little more special in my mind. Observation balcony is sooooooo cool. Very windy and high up. You can see almost all of downtown Minneapolis. Also they have a few binoculars so you can get some closer looks at things. Great overall experience.

  • Chris Antony

I didn’t know that Minneapolis had an observatory deck until 2 weeks. To my surprise this is one of the coolest spots for an sunset experience. The view was amazing giving you a miniature version of the city. It also one of the historic monument and was the tallest building in Minneapolis until 1972. I would definitely go again just for the experience.

  • Elisabeth Arendt

Not advertised anywhere. A well-kept secret! Just ask the front desk at the W Hotel for a ticket to the observation deck. Go on a nice day as the observation deck is open-air. Well worth the $10 admission just for the views!

There are a lot of fun relics from the construction of this iconic Minneapolis building in the museum. Of course the observation deck is extremely fun and you're able to view a lot of different areas in the Twin Cities. It's well worth the money to go up to the top and very fun for a local to try and spot personal areas of importance.

  • Daniel Garcia

The "museum" is a bunch of photos, give yourself 10 minutes. The views are wonderful, especially at sunset and dusk in winter as the lights show the innards of the surrounding buildings. No heights fear induced, you are caged in, and the air vents on each side give a blast of warm air to make it tolerable to stand and admire.

  • M

Great way to see downtown with a great 360° view from observation deck. Museum is small but gives you a great run down of it's history and how it was like when it originally built and the area at the time.

BEAUTIFUL observation tower perched on the first skyscraper in Mpls. They even have a delightful display with historical artifacts, news clippings, and videos. Lovely art deco architecture throughout. After you're done, head downstairs for delicious pie and coffee at Key's Cafe, or grab a meal. You won't be disappointed!

This is a neat place to visit for locals who appreciate the history of Foshay and the growth of our city. The museum part is very interesting and the outdoor views are generally very good. Out of town visitors may not be all that impressed, especially if they have visited some of the more iconic buildings in the US.

Excellent even with temperatures below zero. The observatory deck has heat ducts on every side of the building that keeps the area tolerable. The museum itself ia a collection of Foshay artifacts primarily. Interesting to look at at learn the history. Wonderful views of the skyline and surrounding areas.

What a great experience while in Minneapolis. The hotel staff were very welcoming of our little family wanting to go up to the 30th floor. When there, we walked through the small museum and enjoyed learning the history. The views from the deck are great. A beautiful, unique way to see the city.

  • Jennifer Peterson

This was pretty cool for the Stephen king shining elevator bit and it’s a short lived experience BUT really actually quite iconic and interesting with all the views and history presented in this sketchy neighborhood and you can explore the lobby a bit downstairs without anyone getting fussy.

The view from the observation deck was amazing. I have lived here a long time but never visited the Foshay Tower. Get tickets and enter the right side elevator in back of Manny's...I highly recommend it if you are showing the city to visitors. Pick a clear day.

It costed $12 to get a nice, quick, self-led tour of the history behind the building which was cool. And then the observation deck was awesome. They say you can see up to 30 miles on a clear day, well, i went on a cloudy one and could still see well over 15!

Cheap. $5 a person (student price) to go the the 31st floor. The museum isn't anything much to look at so you can unregretfully skip that. Other than that... Cool 360 view of Downtown!

Outstanding views of downtown Minneapolis and the region to the south. There is a small museum with the history of the building. The observation deck is safe and offers amazing views.

The observation deck is where my boyfriend proposed to me, and it was the most magical sunset with the most amazing view! 10/10!

Interesting museum with many original artefacts telling the story of Foshay's Minneapolis tribute to Washington. Observation Deck offers good views of the surrounding city.

This place is a hidden gem. There are terrific views from all 4 sides and it’s almost surprising that it’s only about 30 floors up. Do yourself a favor and check this out.

We went to an event here and made our way to the observation deck. We were surprised to find a museum with all the history of the building. The view was pretty at sunset!

Great 360 views of Minneapolis and the surround... interesting history of the rise and fall of Foshay. The W hotel you have to walk through for access is amazing too

  • Sarah Roettger

the hotel was beautiful however no wheelchair access to the observation area which is unfortunately the main reason my husband booked it.

Very neat way to see Minneapolis. The museum is fun to check out and gives you a nice history of the building and the city. The views are great. Fun place to stop.

The lady at the desk was very friendly. It was interesting to see the little museum at the top and then the views of the city were excellent. I truly enjoyed it.

The building has lots of history and modern Decorations. The museum shares a lobby with the hotel. Beautiful view of the city skyline from the observation deck.

Nice view, worth visiting it if you are near by. Ticket pricing is $10 per person. Street parking available right opposite to the tower for $3 per hour.

  • JP

Nice view, great history! Price too high at $12 per person. History of tower with exhibits on 30th floor, then a few steps up to observation deck.

Just a cool Minneapolis experience. Great snippets and artifacts in the little museum and fantastic views from the (fenced) outdoor deck.
