I decided to try a local groomer as I did not have time to drive to my usual groomer in the South Shore. I thought it was nice that they text you a day in advance to confirm your appointment (although they had both my name and my dog's incorrect) My dog was groomed very nicely, but not at the cost that was agreed upon. I brought a photo of the haircut so that I would be certain of what to expect when i picked my dog up later. Upon picking up my dog, I asked why it would be $86.00 rather than $55.00 (the price we agreed upon): Claire (groomer) explained the photo I showed is a customized 'breed cut' rather than a 'house cut' (as if I a m supposed to know the difference?) and so they had to ask their 'westminster-award-winning-groomer' (she even showed me the grommers ribbons) to cut her. Oh, and both groomers had the audacity to mention my dog was overweight (yes, by 5lbs) & went on-and-on about it. I just smiled & said I am aware. You never should say anything to a first time customer, especially after you've overcharged them. I won't be coming back, and will stick to driving to my regular groomer of 26 years who costs $40.00 for the same beautiful cut Update: after a few days, I noticed that my dog had a big deep scab on her face where she had a cute black mole. Obviously the groomer shaved it off and did not inform me of the injury. I hope it will not become infected. Also, she had razor burn & scabbing in her ear too (same side as injury to her face). Her nails we not trimmed either.

The proprietor is the problem of this store. I doubt she'll survive post pandemic the way she's treating new or returning customers. Take your business elsewhere people, this woman is borderline abusive, if not overtly abusive to customers she decides she does not want to serve. I've been to this store a many times, pre/intra-pandemic - when served by the lovely sweet employees, I must say the experience was pleasant. However, that owner is a rude, unprofessional, and a disloyal character. She has willingly and openly bashed, belittled other pet store in the surrounding area to me, and the people I have shopped with. Keep your sad feuds to yourself lady, your clients are not your therapists. To continue, her prices are FAR from competitive, so I understand people going to other stores 1) for better prices, and 2) not to feel judged as they shop. How she maintains a clientele, I do not know. When I went looking for a dog food that was running off the shelves elsewhere, I gave her a call as I knew she carried it. She interrogated me for a good 5 minutes on where I purchased from, why I didn't get it from her, only to have her dismiss me, because she was allegedly with a client. HA! She had, and took the time to interrogate me, but when she deemed me unsuitable for her business she dismissed me. *coughs loudly clearing my throat* AS A CONSUMER I HAVE A RIGHT TO SHOP WHERE I WANT! I DO NOT NEED TO REPORT TO YOU! You are NOT special!

0/10 - wouldn’t recommend When there are more 1 star reviews than 2, 3 and 4 stars… you know you shouldn’t shop here. It’s probably friends who gave the 5 stars. :/ I absolutely love supporting small businesses especially pet stores. …. But not this one… I’m not sure how the owner keeps clients coming back with being as rude and unpleasant as she is. I went there in hopes of finding a shop where I could get my pets food. I was adopting a dog and wanted to compare prices and ingredients. She told me I couldn’t do that there…so how was I supposed to know the prices of the bags in her store then? Isn’t the entire point of browsing to… browse…. I was also looking to switch my cats food to something better so I needed to read the bags to see what kinds of ingredients they contained (she has allergies) but nope. Couldn’t do that. In addition to not being able to take pictures… sure I can research online, but how am I supposed to know what’s in the store if I can’t remember all the names of the brands.. :/ honestly Canine & Compagnie … do better. She was rude and unwelcoming from the moment I walked in, it was as if she was annoyed I was there. I want to say there was a good selection of stuff, but I can’t, I wasn’t there long enough to remember what was there. It was honestly a bunch of overpriced junk. Read the negative reviews about this place before going, discourteous people like her shouldn’t run businesses.

So we've loved across the street from Canine and Compagnie for, I dunno, 20 years. In the paat, We would go in for treats and always felt unwelcomed, but thought it was just us. Today solidified why I won't be going there ever again. Today I went in to look around for some dog treats for puppies, wanted to check out some toys and beds as I'm getting a puppy in two weeks. Both my best friend and boy friend were with me, and the worker immediately stopped us and asked us what we wanted. I replied "well really we want to browse around" and she told me "no, you can't do that. We don't let customers look around anymore, you have to know what you want and we will go get it for you." When I gave her a look she said "it's because of the pandemic". As much as I can understand not letting to many people come in, I can understand asking customers to restrict touching items, I CANNOT understand how you cannot let a customer browse at your items and make decisions based on prices and style. She wouldn't even let my boyfriend up the stairs. Clearly new clients aren't important to her. JUST A SUGGESTION: If you don't want customers to browse, post that on your door and don't waste our time. Also HAVE AN ONLINE SHOP AREA SO PEOPLE CAN SEE YOUR STOCK AND ITEMS! Whatever, not worth the trip if she's going to be rude and dismissive. Lady is in need of an attitude check.

I’ve been buying my cat’s food here for years. There’s a great selection and it’s a good location. However prices were too expensive and once the pandemic started, I decided to buy elsewhere where it was more affordable for my budget. I decided to go back today as I was in a hurry and wanted to support the local business I once loved, however the owner was extremely rude this time. She pointed out that I did not return to the store in 2 years. She asked in a rude manner what I’ve been feeding my cat during this time(not your business!). She did not want to help me find the food I was looking for. When I asked if they carried a specific brand of cat food, she condescendingly mentioned that she only had one bag left and that it was reserved for a client she had for 15 years, and that I should just ask the company for a sample instead. Then she passed me off to another employee, who thankfully was very friendly and I was only able to find food thanks to her. And then when I went to go pay, the owner was chatting away with another customer at the cash register and wasted my time. The owner was very unhelpful compared to years ago when she was so happy to help and give samples to figure out what my cat needed. It’s such a shame but I will have to find another local shop to support.

I love this place! I've never experienced any of the rudeness mentioned in some of these reviews! My experience has been quite the opposite- very friendly and helpful customer service, the owner and employees remember me and genuinely seem interested in the anecdotes I've told them about my cat and we always have a pleasant chat when I go in to buy cat food, litter, etc. Not to mention that the owner is extremely knowledgeable about canine and feline health and well-being and their selection is unparalleled! It's hard owning your own small business (I've never owned one, but I've worked for many) and customers can sometimes be entitled and demanding- I've been treated as a personal shopping assistant rather than a person on several occasions at various retail jobs, and it's a horrible feeling. I don't presume to know anything about these other customers experiences, but I think it's important to remember that everyone's human and the vast public audience of the internet weren't there to witness these interactions. It's just one side of the story. Anyway. Not trying to be preachy, I just think she's a nice person running a good company and I hate to see her dragged through the mud on the internet. I would highly recommend this place!

I really don’t like to write bad reviews. Specially local businesses. But unfortunately. Had a very weird unpleasant experience! Went to buy cat food. Learned that they don’t have that brand because vets have Control on that brand of cat food. So I figured to go and look around for cat toys. you know support your local businesses. They had a nice selection. I was very surprised and happy. So I wanted to take a picture to show the family. Of the nice Selection they have. I took a picture and then the owner Came right over told me not to take pictures. I said OK understandable. But then she forced me to delete the picture? Which I did. While I was deleting the picture in my head I was laughing. I guess she doesn’t know how technology works. When I do something on my phone it goes to my other devices. I thought it was very unprofessional and rude. To stand over me and force me to delete a picture? Very weird! Told my family never to go there! They lost my support! By the way this is the picture that caused them to lose my business!

The lady at the store was so very rude! She refused to help me or advise me. She said that I should know from my vet. So I took a picture of the product to send it to my vet to ask for advice and she very rudely approached me to tell me I am not allowed to take pictures in the store without her permission. It was just the picture of the product I wanted to buy for my dogs, the one she wouldn’t advise me on. Then this new customer walks into the store, gets close to the counter. I was standing close to the counter so the rude lady tells me off by saying I’m not respecting the social distancing when I didn’t even move from my spot, it was the customer that just walked in that was close to me and not the other way around. I do not recommend this store at all simply for the rudeness of the lady that works there. Very cold bitter lady.

Claire (the owner) is the absolute best. She’s incredibly knowledgeable, will take the time to explain things in depth as well as guide you when it comes to choosing food, treats, toys, etc. She helped me find the perfect food for my Frenchie, who is prone to ear infections and allergies. She gave me advice for my dog before and after her knee operation, and always asks for updates about her. Even though I moved, I refuse to go anywhere else and will always drive the 45 minutes to purchase there. My dog also gets incredibly excited every time she realizes we’re going to Canine. Thank you Claire! Abby and I are forever grateful for you, your store and your service!

I find it very odd that all these negative reviews have happened within a small recent time frame, making up half of all the review which in total go back over a year. Someone is paying to have bad reviews put on this place, most likely a local competitor. I've been going here for over a year and it has not changed, always great, nice, happy to help. I wasn't even planning on leaving a review, but was just checking what time they close when I saw that their 5 star rating has dropped all of a sudden. I'm in online marketing and see this happen frequently. Don't believe the bad reviews, go here and judge for yourself, it's a great place.

I've always been impressed with Claire's knowledge from A to Z. She is extremely helpful and provides great advice when it comes to dog care. The store has a wide variety of excellent products and the grooming is first rate. I'm not sure why people would be so critical of her covid protocols. We are in a pandemic and one can never be too cautious with respect to the virus. Businesses have to close when someone has been exposed so why would any customer argue with Claire being prudent in keeping her store safe. People need to calm down and do their share in these times of uncertainty. I highly recommend this store.

Recently adopted a poodle who has very thin hair and mats very easily. I brought him to get groomed at K9. The staff and grooming staff were very understanding with my problem since they deal with it a lot. They helped me pick out some grooming tools so that i could use them at home...And i can now say that thanks to them and their tips, i can properly brush my dog and he is less knotted and matted for when i bring him to get groomed. I very much like the owner and think the groomer does a very good job with my dog. Would definitely recommend this store for their products, grooming, and very lovable staff.

Customer service is very poor. I was privy to an unprofessional interaction with the store owner. The woman dismissed my business and refused to serve me on account that she had to work on paperwork (orders) which were priority. She then offered to book a consultation to evaluate my dog's nutritional needs at the cost of 100$ on another day? In what world would this approach to customers not damage your profits and reputation? Judging from previous bad reviews, this business owner has done little to repair this damage. I will not be returning and neither will my friends.

This place saved my dogs life. Claire helped to determine some of the issues causing my dogs gastrointestinal issues and she recommended a new food for him. It's been 3 years since I met with her, and my dogs life has been turned around. I can only say great things about this place. Claire is able to answer any questions I have for what is good for my dog and I feel comfortable following her advice. I have moved out of the area, and I still drive all the way to NDG to continue supporting her. I highly recommend any pet owner to visit the store and see for themselves.

Claire the store owner and all of her employees have been so helpful in providing me information for my dog with his allergies and any other issues that have arose. Passionate and full of honest and useful information - I would recommend this place to anyone. I had tried so many foods beforehand with little to no information from vets concerning pet nutrition. We should be supporting our local businesses, especially when they are run by passionate people doing everything and anything to offer us help when needed.

I use to go here years ago to have my dog groomed found the grooming staff fine and pleasant, but i always found the owner to be rude, even my kids said "what was that about" , so i changed to another Groomer place/store where they were super nice , but the new place was a bit of a drive. then just this year i thought it was just me so i tried to give them another chance and called for an appointment , guess what? she was rude over the phone!!! Will never going back! I suggest you don't go here either.

Love my bi weekly visits to Canine & Compagnie. The owner has been in business 30 years, I’ve learnt so much about different products and improving my pets lives. Her products are top quality, the boutique is filled with beautiful toys and accessories - my favourite type of shopping! Recently one of my dogs had infection, Claire was there to help immediately. Recently we have used her grooming services, my dogs have never looked better! This is a wonderful family business I am proud to support.

I went in just because I happen to be in the area and wanted to buy a little treat for my cat. I have been doing a lot of online shopping lately and I had a such pleasant experience with Claire. We had a really interesting conversation and I learned a lot being a new pet owner. She suggested a toy and my cat is crazy about it. I will definitely go back for a few items I need and looking forward to pet the dog (sorry forgot his name, lol) and having a laugh with the owner.

I bring my two Standard poodles to be groomed by Claire and her team and the service is impeccable ! They are in and out of there in no time and always look wonderful when they walk out. I would highly recommend this place for its professionalism, kindness towards the animal, respect of the set schedule and A1 client services. Claire is very generous of her general know-how about animals and always has great advice for me whenever I have question about my dog's nutrition.

One of my cats was a picky eater and Claire helped me find the perfect food for her. She gave me tons of samples to try until I found the right kind. I also recently rescued and adopted my first puppy. She has been helping me from picking the right food and treats to going beyond and helping me get Rune adjusted to her new life. And has helped me when I am feeling overwhelmed with what I should be doing as a first time dog mom. Thank you Claire for your expertise!

The owner is so helpful and knowledgeable!!! We are getting a puppy and even though we have had many family dogs in our lifetime this is the first time we’re getting our own dog. The owner spent SO much time with us going over everything from A to Z and made sure we had everything we needed to start out. She gave us so many tips about how to care for our puppy! We will be sure to be back for anything related to our dog, will definitely be longtime customers!

Owner Needs an Attitude Shift. Extremely rude to customers. Told me "well, if you're buying your pet food from from someplace else, maybe you should keep buying it there." Seriously? Guess the business is just a way to pass time for her. I'll never set foot in that store again. There are far too many other competitors who carry the same stock who are appreciative of the business they get.

Had been buying really cheap food for my cats and thought it was time to feed them better quality kibble. I went to K9 and company for suggestions and I can say that upon arrival I felt very welcomed in the store, greeted by a smiling staff. They showed me my options and gave me sample bags to test out the one i bought, before opening it. Thank you, very helpful.. my cats adore the food.

I got the worst customer experience ever In my life. The store owner was very rude and I guess she has no intention to do any business. Not sure who are the customers but I guess the business will die out soon and I hope it does! Good Luck in shooing away your customers. Please do not ever go in this store!! Love this place. The owner is very nice and always treat our dog super well. So much do that we can't walk by without her pulling like a maniac to get treats from the owner or employees. They are very knowledgeable about their food and made us a great recommandation when we wanted to change food. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

Daisy (my 2 year old Lab) and I love Claire and her team! Daisy thinks that Claire carries the best treats, bully sticks and toys. And Claire guided me through treating Daisy’s ear inflammation through diet so no trip to the vet was required. Claire is a wealth of knowledge and we are grateful to have her in the neighborhood.

They have great products and a very lovely cat. However, customer services was subpar. They were all quite cold and weren't very welcoming. I was also disappointed that they do not take returns if the bag of food is opened, which I find weird as other stores offer returns on open bags. All in all, I do not plan on returning.

Hateful owner, she was condescending and impatient in her responses to basic questions when I attempted to buy a dog collar. She was like this with every other customer there as well and rude and impatient with her employee who I think is her poor daughter. Out of spite for this hateful witch I will no longer shop here

Terrible, terrible service. Refused a return / exchange of an expensive dog bed that the owner said was the correct size but she was in fact wrong. Used ridiculous excuses to maintain she was right and everyone else was wrong. Rude, condescending and awful. Stay AWAY form this store!!!!

They always have what I need and I can never complain! They actually pointed me in a new direction of dog food because my dog needed something lighter versus his lamb based food! And my Goldendoodle is happy as ever on his new diet! And they always have stock! Thanks again!

We just bought a puppy and Claire took the time, (after hours) to go through everything with us. Extremely knowledgeable and has a tremendous amount of nutritional information. She also was honest and only sold us the things we need immediately.

Owner has always been rude. Wants to control what I buy and is up to date on what I purchased and when. She suspects I purchase at other pet shops and with her attitude, definitely not returning. I have the right to purchase anywhere I desire.

This place is simply incredible. The owner’s knowledge, care and empathy for animal welfare is beyond anything I have ever experienced. My dog is a difficult eater and for the first time in a while she enjoyed her dinner… what an amazing find.

Great pet store!! They have a good selection of cat and dog food! My dog loves the tendons and i have bought them a couple of times at the store. The golden retreiver at the store makes you smile. The owner was very helpful.

My dog Jackson has been having a tough time with his joints lately. I was able to get him onto glucosamine pills and it’s like he’s a puppy. We can finally go on our long walks again, thank you Claire!
