Bibliophile is a treasure. Their first-class service and extensive proficiency in all genres of books is simply unmatched. Yet those qualities are second only to the genuine love Bibliophile has for books and their readers - young and young at heart. How many businesses can boast over thirty years of continued success? Thank you for your wonderful recommendations (and the beautiful wrapping for special gifts!) from a fellow book lover. See you soon!
I try and support local small businesses like this bookstore. Instead of ordering my books online, I always go here. The lady that owns it is so kind and accommodating. If she doesn't have the book, she orders it. Yes it might take a day or so longer than Amazon, but it's completely worth the extra time. I've ordered several books here. They have always come within the time quoted, usually less time. I highly recommend supporting this business.
This is a wonderful independent bookstore. I go there whenever I’m in Montreal. Because I live in the U.S., I’m able to keep up with the store’s new inventory and recommendations by reading the monthly email, “Sandra Selects,” which provides interesting and insightful book summaries, written by the bookstore owner. Bibliophile has great personalized service and a very knowledgeable staff.
Rude? no. Impatient? Very! I've been here a few times the ladies that work there have a sharp, no nonsense, librarian signature look, which in my opinion only adds to the charm of this bookstore. If you show your passion for books or ask for advise they will warm up to you and soon your hands will be overflowing with recommendations. if you bore them well... read the 1 star reviews.
I feel the same as other reviewers that the lady made me very uncomfortable. I used the U.S. credit card (BOA), and she asked for my name and phone number, possibly because I am a foreigner using a foreign credit card. I used this card in Montreal a lot and never experienced that before. It is a lovely space with great music but lingering too long will obviously upset her.
i live around the corner and was excited to finally come check the book store with intentions of supporting a local bookstore + new books to keep me company. lets just say i turned around and left quick after the lady working made me feel unwelcome and was incredibly rude. would rather spend my money elsewhere. dont waste your time or money here.
Not sure what people mean when they say the owner is rude. She is not--she is a woman who loves books, something that is reflected in the excellent choice she carries in such a tiny store, and every time I've been there, she has been immensely welcoming and helpful. I have never been disappointed.
This is a great little book shop that has so many books that I've enjoyed over the years, and would love to have on my bookshelf. They're great if I'm heading out of town the next day, and want a book, but don't have time to get it from Amazon.
I love how this bookstore has a curated selection of general fiction, nonfiction and books on Judaism ranging from Jewish humour to memoirs. It feels cosy with the store’s classical music and upper floor with books for kids.
A great neighbourhood bookstore! Not a huge space, but a lovely, carefully curated selection. Sandra is super helpful and responsive - if the book you're looking for isn't in stock, she'll have it ordered for you in a week.
Just superb. The selection is so good. The display is carefully curated and visually perfect. I wish there was room to sit and really drink it in. That said, it's just steps from excellent coffee shops.
J’ai appelé pour demander si ils avaient un livre en particulier, réponse de la dame (qui avait l’air complètement gavée de mon appel) : on a pas ce livre du tout, merci et la dame m’a raccroché au nez…
A lovely place to browse through English language books. Though the collection is small you will find something for everyone. Sandra was very warm and welcoming.
Really fun, personable staff - and a great variety of English books. They have local authors, new books, Judaica, topical books, classics, graphic novels, etc.
Do not dare speaking French to her … I didn’t even have time to switch to English, she directly hanged up on me. She seems to be a very kind person :)
The woman working there seemed very impatient and rude. Didn't have a good experience at all. Won't be getting my business again that's for sure.
Lovely place that’s nearly extinct elsewhere. Sidewalk sale weather permitting.
Wonderful selection of books! Very happy with my purchase and the service :)
English bookstore. Not a lot of choice, but charming and friendly owner
They had what I was looking for, plus great service.
The person I talked to on the phone was so rude!
