Reading is one of my biggest hobbies. When I don't find what I'm looking for in the library (or if the wait list is too long), I make a stop at Barnes & Nobles. They usually have what I'm looking for considering they have a huge selection. The sucky part about this location is the parking. Since the store is connected to the mall, you really have to struggle to find a spot! I've been there on weekdays during non-peak hours and still have to park all the way back. On a weekend even the spots WAY in the end are filled up. The store does have a Starbucks, which is nice. One of my favorite pass times is finding a book and getting started on it while at the book store to see if I like it enough to purchase it (since the books are on the pricey side). It's nice to be able to grab a cup of iced coffee and sip it as I read. However, this store is ALWAYS crowded. It's always a challenge finding a place to sit. There are tons of college kids with their laptops and textbooks laid out, leaving little to no room for the rest of us shoppers. By the way - there are no outlets so make sure you keep that in mind if you do plan to go there to work on something on your laptop. I personally preferred to go to Black Walnut (across the street) because they have tons of outlets & a less busy work environment. If you're planning on making a visit to purchase a book or to view their selection, it's definitely worth a visit. However, if you're a person like me that likes to sit and relax, it's not a spot for you.

I've been coming to Drawn and Quarterly for years now, and I've always loved the store. Phenomenal staff... much friendlier and more knowledgeable than the bored teenagers at Indigo! When I stopped by last week, I was as always very happy with the service and professionalism of the employees. HOWEVER... I was disappointed to notice that there were only two employees to perhaps 15-20 customers. They seemed very very busy. For such a beloved store, I hope there would be more people working there! I have also been DEEPLY disappointed by two things: one, the French section has diminished so much in the past year. I loved being able to come here and support a local bookshop for both French and English-language books, but the selection isn't the same anymore... and secondly, I was last there to ask about Black authors at the store. I learned that Drawn and Quarterly has produced VERY FEW graphic novels by black authors EVER... while the store carries other authors, I would like to support Montreal businesses. This makes it harder for me. The company has existed for quite a long time, I believe... this oversight is embarassing. I nonetheless thank you for the wonderful service provided... I do enjoy the sellers' reccomendations. I hope that the store will be less hectic for them in future....

Super cute library! The woman at the counter suggested some poetry books from local artists and i ended up buying 2 poetry books. They are known for their selection of graphic novels and comic books and i can say that it does not disappoint. I also saw that the employees added small notes next to certain books they’ve liked, and the short description made all of them sound so enticing; the small details really gives a warm and personal touch to the place. They have a good variety of books in english mostly, but also a lot of french books and especially from local Montreal artists, which i think is fantastic!

Going here was an experience unto itself. The store was very busy- pre-covid level busy and the people were really nice. Everyone was wearing a mask. The book selection was really interesting, varried, and delightful. There were so many books I had never heard of but were extremely intriguing. The staff were phenomenal- they did their best to help with special requests and were very well informed. This is what I consider a hidden gem. It is worth checking out simply for the experience although do not be surprised if you come out with a book or three.

So happy to have found this place. I needed some books as gifts and one call is all it took for them to place the order and they let me know when they would arrive as they were currently out of stock online however they were able to verify availability with their suppliers. Updates were easy to get and I got the books with plenty of time to spare. Just a pleasure to speak to the staff as they were so nice and helpful, strange how I take that for granted now that I could actually speak to someone with one phone call.

I'm from the states and have been dying to visit for some time, it DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The range of graphic novels to choose from was incredible, and I found a few novels I haven't been able to find easily elsewhere. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful! I got a free tote for spending a certain amount which was also very nice. I've heard they host a zine club or something of that nature and that it's awesome?! Everyone should check this out. Can't wait to visit again.

A great local book shop. For those visiting from English speaking locals, there are plenty of books in English and the staff spoke English. And for the francophones, there are plenty books in French and while I can't verify, I'm sure the staff also disk French. Books are new; this is not a used book shop. If you are looking for something lasting as a reminder of your travels, something that is of Montreal, then Drawn & Quarterly is a must.

The BEST bookstore in Montréal!!!!! After being introduced by my former Comics professor Jessica Campbell at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I walked here and bought a few miscellaneous items. They have a wide range of graphic novels, poetry chapbooks, literary fiction/nonfiction items, amongst many other things. P.S. Sara Quin of Tegan and Sara listed this as one of her favorite places in the city.

  • Melissa Gates

I absolutely love visiting this local bookstore. The staff is oh so friendly and helpful. There's a diverse selection in stores and almost anything can be ordered online as well. Prices are the same regular prices you'd find anywhere else but at least you're encouraging the "little guy". I also really appreciate that it's dog friendly since I have trouble going out with mine. I definitely recommend this bookstore!

  • Tony Michel

Great bookstore with one of the best selections of graphic novels in the country, from D&Qs own catalogue and others. A hub of activity for readings and book signings. They have recently opened up a second retail store (librairie) across the street that specializes in children's books that is wonderful too. I bought so many books at the main store here that I got this nifty Seth tote bag for free!

  • Aamer Javed

Our kids love reading books and we make a point to visit a library every time we travel. This time we visited this book store - the kids bookstore is across from this location, and our kids went crazy. We bought them a book each to take back as souvenirs. The staff was friendly as well. The prices are a bit higher then online retailers..but, awesome service made up the difference. Thank you !

My go-to book store when I’m in town! The friendly staff are always happy to help me find exactly what I’m looking for or guide me with their recommendations when I’m just in for a browse. Also heard that they have recently unionized! Even more reason to support this place. Was already a regular when visiting the city but this makes me want to order all my books from here from now on.

  • James Iron

Very, very cool selection of books and comics. I really love the neat and tidyness of the store as well as the comfortable atmosphere. Had it not been covid I would have darted around examining every neat book. They promote not what is bestselling or heavily marketed, instead preferring to promote what is more interesting, artistic, or under the radar. Something I admire.

  • Magda Szalec

A book is always a great gift! I find that this place always has something for anyone, even if they're not a reader. From graphic novels, to picture books, travel books, COOKBOOKS (my favourite section) and regular novels - the selection is great and unique - hard to find anywhere else. Love that they support small authors/artists/entrepreneurs and local ones too

  • Kerri Warbanski

What a sweet little spot! I ordered some books that weren't currently in stock, and a lovely staff member emailed me updates on the progress of my order, and then I received a text with a picture of my package leaning against my apartment door (inside) to let me know it had arrived! 10/10 will buy from them again. Support your local independent bookseller!

  • Clarissa d'Orival

One of the best book stores I've ever been too, they have such a fantastic and rich selection of independent comics, graphic novels, books. The sellers are so sweet and gave me recommendations that were perfectly tailored to what I'm a fan of (I basically ended up buying every book that they suggested haha) An absolute must-go in Montreal.

  • Mike R

This was a whirlwind of amazing comic and book selections in both French and English. I could have spent all day here perusing the shelves, chatting with the staff, and admiring the well organized and well curated shelves. If you get a chance to visit, do not miss it and make sure you get your fill of the incredible shelf recommendations.

  • Clara GB

If you're looking for the next book place to go, check this out! Went there for a Poetry reading, came out with 3 wonderful books thanks to the knowledgeable advice of the bookseller The vibe is so nice, inclusive, and they have 2 stores (50 m away one from the other) which gives them a large selection, from child books to adult ones

  • Hoogachaka

Books are standard paperback, but are more pricey than on Amazon (You can find some nice hardcover for the same price). If you're into modern Canadian LGBTQ+ books this place is for you, but don't expect diversity in genres, times and writers. Please note that my review applies more specifically for non-fiction/fiction books.

  • Brendon Chrus

Fantastic shop, knowledgeable kind staff, lovely selection of books. We brought our two girls (2 & 3) and were warmly welcomed and received excellent support and advice. They have a small Spanish selection and I was struck by the competitiveness in pricing for all their books. We’ll make this a frequent stop in years to come.

  • Lola Ianovski

Excellent selection of both French and English graphic novels, and a well curated non-graphic book section. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful. It is possible to special order anything that is not already available in store. The store seems deceptively small from the outside- I routinely spend up to an hour browsing there

  • kiana

i love this bookstore so much, i’ve gotten so many books from here! this place has all the books i need, i once bought 8 books at once from this place it’s that good!!! thank you for all the books i’ve bought i also enjoy the people so much, they are really kind and always suggest the best books for me to try …

  • Matteo Miriello

Great bookstore to find new and different graphic novels. I sometimes like to go here just to peruse the new arrivals and old classics; it's an enjoyable experience in and of itself. The selection of books is well curated and can appeal to most readers looking for something different than your standard comic book.

  • Brooke N.

Stellar bookshop for children's and young adult books. They have a broad and varied selection with excellent displays and a particular emphasis on books by Indigenous authors and illustrators. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is warm and inviting. Cannot recommend enough.

  • Andrew Sisk

Your heart will fill up with joy and wonder when you walk into this store. The shelves are filled with books that will tingle your brain with curiosity. So many graphic novels and a collection of novels that will inspire and overwhelm you with choice. A great place to get a gift or spend an afternoon browsing.

  • Rachel Simpson

An absolute gem of Mile End as a first (and second) time visitor to Montreal. They have a nice split between French and English books and comics. Love their indie graphic novel and zine selection as well as their non-fiction. Cosy with knowledgeable staff who are great conversation in both English and French.

  • Jessica Kim

A great bookstore if you want to buy new from a local. Carefully selected books (both English and French) fill the shelves. No pressure for you to buy anything. People stand and read, or just hang out discussing books. They also have some really nice Japanese notepads, handmade cards, etc. Love this place.

  • Chelsea Patterson

This is an awesome store. They can order almost any book, and they are always ready to give recommendation. That is actually how I found my favourite author. It has an awesome community and you can feel safe to browse and find something unique. Here some awesome books I found at Drawn and Quarterly

  • Micah Liesenfeld

I was completely overwhelmed by the volume of quality books in the store. Their children's book store across the street was equally good. I left with many books. Wish I lived closer just so I could frequent this place. A must if you are visiting Montreal and love graphic novels and indy press.

  • Alex Stewart (Enza Sierra)

My new favorite bookstore! They allow dogs inside and are very welcoming. Staff are very knowledgeable and the store has an expansive library of graphic novels and literature. They have tons of queer, black, multicultural, and even some first nations authors/artists. Just an awesome place!

  • Grant Andrew Dzuba

The selection of graphic novels is always impressive, and D&Q definitely works hard to include authors & illustrators from diverse backgrounds. I also appreciate the non fiction section -- from gardening to political philosophy to cook books, D&Q crams a lot into a small shop.

  • Vincent T

I've been a fan of D+Q for years. I made a point of visiting their shop while I was in Montreal. The store has all the fresh comics you could want and regular old prose books as well. The neighborhood is great to visit too. Staff were helpful and friendly but not in your face.

  • Clara Émilie Gagnon

Simply adore this place. Be careful of your wallet, mine gets abused everytime. They have a wonderful selection of graphic novels, of which a lot are from local artists!! The other half of the shop is any and every other type of book. I will do the extra mile to go there ❤️

  • Symba S

Great book store you can find a lot of novels here, new and old. They have a lot of info events there as well to introduce you to new books. The employees are great and are able to assist you every step of the way. Students get a small discount so it is great.

  • M Sims

I’m a big fan of D&Q and the store has been on my list of places to visit in Montreal for years. Great selection, incredibly friendly staff. I found a couple of books I wanted and purchased an interesting recommendation from the staff. Didn’t disappoint.

  • A L

Quaint and cute bookstore that has a great variety of books! They have a lot of selection of small print published books, graphic novels and non-fiction. Their zines selection is great. Definitely a go-to store if you're looking for something to read.

  • Ayk

My most favourite bookstore in Montreal! This cozy cute place has wonderful selection of books( both of English and French, from novel to graphic). I always visited them when I wanted something new. I wish there was a bookstore like them in my town.

  • Alexandra Apple

The best books for you, your family or anyone! Young and old! Great for buying a gift for a hard to buy for person! A very progressive selection for kids: on feminism, black history, Native American stories and authors’! Never regret stopping by

  • Marjolaine G

I ordered a book (in French that I remember from my childhood) and it was quick and efficient! Happy with my experience. They offer a bunch of kids books and I’m happy to see they have themes such as justice, feminism, racial equality, etc.

  • Zara Thustra

This place is some sort of black hole. I end up wandering into the store every time I see it, and think "oh, I'll just spend a few minutes here, I'll just have a look." Wrong. This store is so full of visually appealing material that going

  • Alex H

The most charming bookstore in Montreal. They're also a publisher and a lot of the graphic novels/comics in the store they published themselves. A perfect place to spend a couple hours in the afternoon browsing after your Sunday coffee.

  • Satnam Singh

I found the collection of classic literature wanting. Also, the price of greeting/post cards is on the higher side. Nevertheless, a great environment, decor and good collection of modern literature in all genres. I enjoy going there.

  • jess g

I’m from New York but so glad my friends introduced me to this shop. If I ever get to publish a book with illustrations and poetry, I want to do it with them. This is a great publishing company and bookstore!!! Gonna read my new book

  • Lamar Timmins

This is the kind of business you want to see thrive in Montreal. Tucked away, I found a book from a Russian photographer that i only could find on Amazon. Such a lucky find. So many great Local French and English authors.

  • Edda Bild

Such a great experience at the bookstore, don't be shy about asking the shop keepers about recs or ideas, they have superb suggestions. Also, you might get a free tote bag if you purchase over a certain amount ;)

  • Marc-André B

Such a great store. I can't walk out of there without buying something. Half the store is graphic novels (some from their publishing house) and the other half is books. There is also a small children's section.

  • Jason Hose

Doesn't appear to be wheelchair accessible from the steps at the front door. I'll be in Montreal soon visiting and was hoping that your store would be accessible. I guess I'll look for books elsewhere. …

  • Albert Rodriguez

Discovered different types of comics here apart from the superheroes in tights. This is where i discovered Guy Delisle, Kate Beaton and Montreal’s treasure, Michel Rabagliati, creator of the Paul series.

  • Samantha Achidi

English Bookstore with a couple french books good prices for the quality they provide. They have a good variety of genres available and also a decent amount of diversity amongst the authors they carry.

  • Mark Beach

Great little book store in the Mile End neighbourhood. Good selection in both French and English. I was especially impressed with the graphic novel section. Tons of interesting titles to choose from.

  • Rob Atkinson

Great bookshop featuring graphic novel, design books, and local books. Obviously great if you're already a fan of D&Q but lots to discover anyway. Good mix of English and French available

They had the book I was looking for, long time. Delivery gentleman was AWSOME. Cordial kind, with a smile. Package had personal touch . Definitely will buy books from them from now on.

What a great nook of specialty books! Don’t miss their children’s bookstore nearby! Tiny space but a nice quiet chill vibe and equally quiet yet pleasant and helpful staff!

  • Delaney Swanson

Absolutely love this bookstore! It always has a bajillion incredible feminist and progressive books to learn about the world—the biggest challenge is not buying them all!

Their children's bookstore in across the street and is just lovely. Good vibes from the ambience and from the people who work there.
