Beware. If like me, you are looking at Bargain Car Rentals because they are the cheaper option then I am warning you that they will try every tactic to squeeze more money out of you. Unfortunately despite many good reviews I had a terrible experience with this company. First issue is the time it took to get the keys after arriving at the airport - I was in line for 45minutes regardless that I had booked, provided all documents and signed the agreement online prior to arriving. Customers in front of me had done none of this and were enquiring about hiring a vehicle. I have advised the company that a priority line for customers who have booked ahead would be appropriate - especially as there were 3 attendants at the time. Second issue was that the car seat I had requested for my infant daughter was not in the vehicle as promised, despite the fact that I had paid for it. This resulted in a further wait of 25minutes for one of the workers to arrange. Third is the additional charge of $83 they placed without my consent. This charge was provided as the attendant asked me if I would like to use their fill up on drop off option where their fuel is cheaper than the closest station by 15 cents/L. I thought this was a great option, however the attendant failed to inform me that there is a $83 charge to do so. Finally, if like me you don't purchase the overpriced insurance reduction (which is an additional $40 per day) they company will take $500 from your card for a deposit. If you do want a vehicle with less hassle and insurance - I'd imagine one of the other companies would be better suited and more cost effective. Oh and one last thing, the company didn't even provide me with a full tank of fuel on pick up - it was less than half!

Renting a car should be a pleasant, relaxing experience that adds to rather than detracts from your overall holiday experience. I'm happy to say that on two separate occasions now using BCR Hobart that I've been very satisfied overall from booking to handing the vehicle back. I think that there are certain steps you have to take when using any rental car company and if you do your research, take care when inspecting your vehicle and endeavour to form a good initial line of communication with those at the company and office on most occasions you should be fine. I hired a small SUV(Hyundai Kona)for 3 days and was very pleased with the the condition and cleanliness of the car upon pick-up at the Harrington street depot. I took my time checking the Kona top to bottom recording every mark and scuff no matter how minor and left stoked with my selection, the price I paid and good chat with the chap in the office. I wasn't pressured to add any extras that I didn't need or want and thus enjoyed every moment of my hire. Please take the time if you do have a good experience with any and all tourism related companies especially in these difficult times to leave positive reviews. Businesses like all of us are doing it real tough and sometimes I think people only bother writing reviews when negative experiences are had whereas when things go well complimentary words are often not left. Thanks BCR and best of luck moving forward post-pandemic whenever that may be. Adam.

Service very good. The small MG car we hired was affordable but the cost of larger ones a bit eye-watering. The car was reasonably lively, automatic and easy to handle. (I recommend automatic as there are lots of tight bends and inclines meaning lots of gear changes). The car seat was rather worn and a bit uncomfortable (48,000 on the clock). The USB socket didn't charge my phone and the radio on-off switch did not work. Otherwise all good. I reported the faults on return but the staff didn't seem to note them. Don't fall for the 'pay in advance for us to top up the fuel cheaply when you return'. You are not refunded for any fuel left in the tank. Also, bring slapped with a potential fixed charge of 5,000 dollars for any minor damage - which would then have to be reclaimed from the insurer - is nothing short of abuse - hence the low score. As a general point of experience, I would not hire a small car again to travel long distance around Tas. The roads are good but uneven and it becomes quite tiring in a small vehicle. Booking holiday arrangements is complex and time consuming: having to read the small print of hire car conditions to identify unfair terms is not my idea of a good time, hence my irritation. - BCR please note. I will not use BCR again, cheapest is not the same as best value.

Upon unloading our baggages I asked to have the van inspected in my presence. The Bargain employee told me that was unnecessary. An hour later and already inside Hobart airport, I received an email from Bargain informing me a windscreen stone chip had been found. Although I purchased a third party car rental insurance based on Google search, I am extremely disappointed with the way Bargain is pointing this fault at me. I suggest potential customers of Bargain to check your rental vehicle thoroughly before leaving the parking lot and take lots of photos. I returned the Bargain rental vehicle an hour earlier than the expiration time thinking Bargain would do the physical checking in my presence. Note: There was at least four Bargain staff on the parking lot who were free to inspect my car rental right then and there. In short, they weren’t busy.

Recently my wife, two friends and I completed a 3 week trip around Tasmania from Hobart we traveled to Strahan, Penguin, Launceston, St Helen's, Bicheno, Coles Bay and back to Hobart plus many places in between. One of the highlights of this trip was the car company that we dealt with BARGAIN CAR RENTALS and this is the second time we have used them in Tasmania. I always do research on rental prices including insurance and what is covered. I compared them to six other companies and none of the others was even close in price, even after adding the top cover insurance premium (no excess), they still beat the other companies hands down on total price. During the trip (at Penguin) the service light came on and we were in a new car by the time we arrived at Launceston including a full tank of petrol. The car was a 7 seater, with four adults and our luggage this was a perfect size for us. Great staff and brilliant service Thank you BARGAIN, we'll be back!!

BEWARE- Pretty disappointed and amazed that the mg3 we picked up has no support at all for android auto. Didn't think this is something we'd need to check when we booked. We're back to the early 2000s with the passenger navigating - as there's no phone mount or any means of allowing the driver to view maps. It actually feels unsettling and dangerous after coming to rely so heavily on a map HUD. The car itself is pretty under- powered even for a small hatch. Having completed the journey, the car was really noisy (road noise) and pulled constantly to the left - which made for a really tiring drive. The A-pillar on the MG is terribly positioned - aligned perfectly to hide oncoming traffic on hilly right hand turns, and when the wipers are on vision out of the drivers side windscreen is further compromised. In summary this was a pretty awful car. Staff were good, booking, collecting and returning the vehicle was also good.

I've just returned from a 2 week stay in Tasmania and couldn't recommend Bargain Car Rentals more highly. We booked with Bargain Car Rentals via Rentalcars.com and the whole process was extremely smooth. We only booked our car on the morning that we left for our trip and the keys were waiting when we arrived at the Bargain Car Rental desk at Hobart Airport that evening. That rental rate was the cheapest available being for a Nissan X-trail with about 70,000km and the car drove perfectly (with only a couple of very minor dents / scratches, but the car was very clean and looked near new). The check-in process when returning the car at Hobart airport was also easy. There was a person waiting at the check-in area who checked the car, ensured that it was full of fuel and gave the all-clear. It was about a 5 minute process. And the all staff we dealt with were helpful and friendly. All in all, a good experience.

Worst experience with a company I've ever had in my entire life. Firstly, we were overcharged and had to argue TWICE with the manager to receive a refund of which we were sent NO confirmation of even though we were promised an email. The manager is EXTREMELY rude, and the staff are incompetent. We waited over two and a half hours past the pickup time for our rental, only to go to the counter and ask for a second time where the car was and discover that the keys had been there the entire time but they forgot to tell us. Be careful of the fine print, they can also overcharge you for having your car being "too dirty" which is completely subjective. They also tried to up the insurance price on us twice saying that the "policy changed the say before". If you have already booked make sure you print your confirmation of price and bring it in person!!! Steer clear!!!!

On arrival to Hobart we were greeted with a rushed but efficient enough service, we had a great car for a 16 day hire. We returned the car also without a drama. 2 days later we find our card to be in a minus amount of $1200+. Upon calling and trying to seek answers for 2 more days we were advised that there were 2 small dents on a door. As we collected the car in the dark and returned in the dark this was unknown to us. The communication and solving of this matter has been disappointing. We did not receive any correspondence whatsoever advising or warning us of the upcoming deduction. We are absolutely disappointed to end our holiday in this way and are now trying to seek alternative funds to support our family due to these funds being taken without notification.

The van was super dirty The table spashed of something The heater was broken..and at 12 degrees you need one Pots broken as well The curtain outdoor could not stand due to a broken pole, I m sure they were not even aware of it. Overall all vehicle was dusty. If you guys are worry about COVID 19 and get a clean vehicle I would not recommend at all this company based on my experience. The price was ok...but still I rather spend more and get a clean vehicle with all the equipment I need rather than have such an experience. They give you 2 chairs,blankets and pillows. Fridge and Microwave were ok but only working when connected to power. You are travelling Tasmania which is amazing....treat yourself and get a better deal

The whole process worked well, from pick up to drop off of the vehicle. Due to the Hobart 3 day lock-down towards the end of our car rental period, I initially extended the car hire by 2 days as I had to change my itinerary. Shortly thereafter I had to cancel those 2 days as I needed to fly home to Brisbane prior to a lockout deadline for Queensland. Bargain Car Rentals have offered a refund to me of the additional 2 day rental which they were not obliged to do, and I am most appreciative of their gesture of Goodwill. The vehicle that we had (Nissan X Trail) was in good condition and was pleasant to drive. I would happily hire a vehicle again from Bargain Car Rentals in Tasmania.

We got off the plane and went straight to the car rental area. We hadn’t pre booked anything. Bargain Car rentals was the only one with a line up. Even so, we were sceptical because we’d never used them before. But the other car rental places at the airport were $300 plus more expensive than what Bargain was offering. So we took the plunge. So glad we did. The customer service was top class. The car was immaculate and practically new. Handing back the car was seamless. Didn’t have a single thing to complain about. Would definitely go with them again, without a doubt. I don’t know how the other car companies can compete with them - Bargain was so much cheaper!

I booked a car from here for 14 days for my trip to Tasmania. It was a very easy process to use their website to organise a car. A few weeks prior to the trip, they sent through a site where you can populate all the relevant information for the booking, like driver's licences for all drivers, add any additional items such as car seats etc, as well as upload any documentation. This really sped up the process when arriving at the airport to pick up the car and would recommend this be done. One issue that we encountered was that the queue, to pick up the car, in Hobart Airport, was quite long and wasn't moving very quickly. Drop off is very convenient.

Cheap rental car company with average service Pros: Cheap, helpful staff Cons: Car had an accident before and was poorly repaired, as I was alone in the car and the damage was on LHS did not care too much, except some randomly squeaking noise now and then They have a new trick, offer you to return a car withe empty tank and they will refill it at 15 cents cheaper price than on the petrol station. Of course they want you to pay upfront full tank and no reimbursement if the car is given with half a tank left. Also their “cheaper” price was 10 dollars more than what I paid filling the full tank from almost completely empty (<30 km range)

Please don't fall for the five star reviews. They're all fake. They have got terrible customer service. The staffs there are very rude and unhelpful. We had full coverage for the car. The car we hired got a slight scratch while driving. When we went to return the car at 6am, there was nobody at the office. As I had to catch the flight back home, we just dropped the keys at the counter as we were told before. I've called them many times and told them about the incident to ask for the refund of the deposit. But every time they hang up. I don't recommend anybody to do business with this company at all.

If you have young children DO NOT BOOK with Bargain. Had booked rental with Bargain in Tasmania, however, upon arriving and collecting vehicle, the car seat provided for our newborn was grossly inadequate and unsafe. Desk staff were helpful, however the staff sent to assist with replacing the car seat were not knowledgeable on car seat safety whatsoever, and the replacement car seat was equally unsafe and unusable. After wasting over an hour, we were left with no choice but to cancel our booking and book with another company for $200 more than originally booked with Bargain.

I booked and paid for a rental online. Came day to pick up get hit with well now you need to pay for insurance ect Still have to pay for no insurance why not have these options when booking? After missing my flight paying for another 3 tickets then this I was just done! Returning: I’d had no time to fill up, so had to accept I’d get a invoice to pay for what it would cost to fill The guy then tells me they charge $4 a litre! By this time I just had to accept it and just get on flight The baby car seats I rented where fitted tight so couldn’t adjust straps for children

I had a terrible experience with this rental car company. The car was old and had a lot of damage, including a spider web on the mirror and various dents on the body. The tires were worn out and the wheel alignment was not done properly, which made for a very uncomfortable and dangerous ride. The passenger door kept randomly getting stuck and when I asked for a different car, I was flatly refused. I should have paid more for better service from another rental company. Save yourself the hassle and avoid this company at all costs.

Very good value. The process of getting keys and finding car after hours is a bit convoluted but OK. The Hyundai i20 was fine and had a full tank. No problem dropping off either. There was a noticeable dent on the passenger door when we picked up and I was a bit worried given that there was no one to confirm that it was there before but the person at drop off had it on their data base. Would be good to have some way of notifying customers of things like that for peace of mind. Email communication was clear and polite throughout.

Do not use this company! Firstly we were ripped off with the insurance charges and then after I had mistakenly left my prescription glasses in the car when dropped off it turned into a nitemare trying to deal with them. They rang us to say they had found my glasses and I could organise a courier to collect them which they tried to do three times and then eventually they now say they were mistaken and they don’t have them. So in the future we will definitely pay the extra $ and use a different company. Terrible service

Car was good, but at pick-up we agreed to the discount fuel option where you can pre-pay a tank of petrol at a slightly reduced rate so that you can bring back empty OR (as we were promised) return full and have the pre-paid tank refunded. We returned full and expected to receive the refund as agreed, but disappointingly found later on credit card statements that this never occurred. Eventually was rectified after calls and emails, but poor business practice. Avoid the fuel option if you don't want headaches later.

I rented a car in November 2019 for a whole roundtrip through Tasmania, and was extremely happy with the experience throughout: Amazingly friendly and helpful customer service. They didn't even try to get me to purchase insurance! No additional credit card charges whatsoever. The car itself: a Commodore for a very low price, just perfect, the best value for money you could get anywhere. Condition was almost new (only a couple months old!) and it was packed with all kinds of features. Absolutely recommended.

We booked a car though Uber after seeing multiple cars available online. This reservation was confirmed by email. After waiting an hour in the queue to see staff, who were friendly, we were told there were no cars available and that the booking was a request and not a confirmation. This is a ridiculous notion where one gets a confirmation email. We were one of 5 people that morning in the same situation. We had to then ease a further two houses trying to book a car. We went to Hobart budget who were great.

Avoid at all costs; so shocking it made my wife cry and witnesses offered their names and numbers so they could help us later with our complaints. 30 mins in the queue despite online check-in, the staff were verbally abusive and physically intimidating, had to wait another 45 mins for the car to be ready, not the car we booked, we missed our ferry, $500 surprise deposit or $40 a day extra, huge $5000 minimum excess. I could go on - don't hesitate to complain to ACCC and don't be fooled by cheap rates!

Fantastic experience overall. Very easy to book online and very easy to pick-up from the in-airport counter. We unfortunately had some issues with the first car we received but an easy phone phone to the help centre was able to get us on the right track. Special mention to Sanjula at the Hobart Airport desk who was able to sort out a new car for us very quickly and without any hassle. Overall a great experience from booking through to all online interactions.

I didn't know what to expect from this cheap car rental, I was a little bit scared at the beginning. However, the experience was better than expected. The car (Hyundai i-20) was pretty good, everything worked just fine. We adopted the 0-excess insurance (otherwise they hold AU$1000 from your credit card from 5 to 7 days). The only "problem" was that they charged me a baby sit even when I didn't order it. They refund me accordingly.

This rental company definitely does have one of the cheapest options for rental cars… but at a significant cost. The service was very disappointing, we given an ETA of 20-25 minutes, and I can confidently tell you that we had been waiting for over an hour to get our car. The car had spiderwebs on it when we received it. It’s definitely more worth spending a little bit extra on a nicer rental company unless you have hours to waste.

We rented a standard SUV to do a lap around Tasmania. The car was 2022 model in a great condition and very clean. We opted out of their liability waiver as it was quite expensive, we got a travel insurance instead. There was no issues when returning the car, I would recommend taking it for a wash and refueling to avoid extra charges in the end. Most importantly drive safely, a lot of wildlife in Tasmania after sunset

In my case the best part was the staff engagement. I had to change the booking due to change in flight schedule during the peak time of new year. The staff went out of the way to make sure that they can still accommodate me. Similarly, we received a quality car, it was neat and clean. The team also followed up with me in advance to make sure the booster seats are installed once they handover the keys to me.

I’ve rented cars from here twice. Happy both times. Just rented a van from them for a week & on return my son accidentally left his brand new iPad in it. I was already incredibly flustered (travelling alone with 6 kids & running late). The team found the iPad quickly & returned it to us so we didn’t miss our flight. Please change all 4 tyre for this Nissan ASAP, the tyre are so slippery for little ramp, round about and mountain roads, especially in Tasmania. I understand it is legal to have any tyre more than 3mm in Tasmania. But when all my family on this car, it could not go up to the top of ramp and slip back at rainy night, I appreciate if you could change tyre before it wear out under 3mm.

Easy to book online, and people at desk were fine to deal with however the pick-up process and condition of the vehicle was nothing less than unsatisfactory. Took an hour to get the keys to the vehicle, the vehicle had more than minor damage to key areas, spare tyre was bald, there was a mechanical issue apparent as soon as you started driving. The list goes on. RENTER BEWARE!

We had a minor issue with the vehicle when picking up - ordered it with a bike rack which hadn't been installed. However the staff were very courteous and sorted us out quickly so we didn't have to wait too long at all. Great value for the vehicles and good service, ute was practically brand new and they provide a high quality Aussie made brand of rack which is hitch-mounted.

Booked online - simple process with all the information you need! Friendly staff at counter on arrival, car was ready in 15mins. Car was exact model we booked, it was very clean, new and drove great! We drove car for 2 weeks and had no problems at all! and with the Platinum Cover, we had no stress about dents, scratches or accidents! I will be using these guys again!

Very friendly from start to finish easy to deal with, car was brand new gave us a few discounts ended up cheaper than the original price and that was paying for full insurance which I would recommend just for the peace of mind. Especially when driving in Tasmania as the roads are quite challenging. Great company to deal with for us would recommend to anyone.

Great car and exactly what we booked, and the service was fantastic – when we’d already returned the car at the airport and got a call from the motel that we’d left something behind, Bargain we fine for us to get the car again and rush back to the motel to collect the item! Really great of them.

All of the Flights out of Tullamarine to Hobart were delayed due to power outage. Rang the call centre and was told they would be shut and unable to pickup pre-booked car. When we arrived Sanjula C was at the service desk staying back after hours to assist the customers. Very appreciative of his effort to get a lot of people out of trouble.

Still waiting after almost 45 minutes for car to be washed but now there’s tyre issues and NFI. “Two minutes” is 25 minutes and counting in their car hire world. Not happy Jan. Booked through an airline and the fee was very competitive, the on line check in for the car was easy and saved time at the airport. Decided to stay in Tassie for an extra week and the call centre made it very easy, the car was modern and clean. Will definitely use this company again.

Beautiful Tuscon awaited us at Hobart Airport with child seat fitted. It came with SatNav so didn’t have to hire one. Staff were very responsive to email and text communications and even re-checked the car when our 3 year lost his favourite stuffed toy. Unfortunately not in the car!

Excellent service. Cheapest car rental place by far. They were seamless in their hiring and returning the vehicle. It was an easy process and we will do it again. We got platinum coverage AND it was still cheaper than most other car places (for two drivers under 25).
