came in on Wednesday due to extreme back pain and brain fog, barely able to move or walk. I had intense brain fog and could not talk properly. my partner took me to austin. we were told only patients could enter. i tried to explain to the lady and the first window i was struggling to communicate and move needed my partner to assist me. she condescendingly told me i was communicating fine (which was completely untrue) but she said we could speak to the nurses. fortunately the nurses were okay with my partner staying however the nurse putting my information was completely abrupt and disrespectful. whilst i was struggling with immense pain and brain fog I was scolded as my private heath card did not have my legal name, which led my partner to tell the woman she did not need to be so abrupt, i was then scolded as my GOVERNMENT SUPPLIED heath care card expired in a week. after this woman left i was told i would get my bloods taken. I waited several hours, asked when i would get the tests done, and was still made to wait, while patients who arrived after me had theirs done. i was in agonising pain and desperately wanted help. when my bloods were finally taken the nurse entirely unnecessarily brought up my “mental health concerns”, which were only expressed to one nurse when i told her i had PTSD and did not want to be alone at a hospital. this comment made me feel degraded and erased. It made me feel as though these nurses only saw me as someone with mental health issues and not a patient in serious pain that needed help, this influences my belief that they put off getting me to a doctor as they did not take my sickness seriously due to mental health. after waiting 5 hours i did not see a doctor and went home in pain. Not to mention I am a non-binary person and through my whole experience at the hospital i was not asked for my pronouns once and was misgendered the whole time which made me extremely uncomfortable. It’s unacceptable that in a time like this patients are not being asked for their pronouns because it is harmful and painful feeling invisible and disrespected. After i left the hospital I had a fever of 38-40 for 4 days straight and after blood tests have found out i may have an infection that has spread through my body. this could have been identified at the hospital had they seen me. the nurse here need far more training on how to treat patients with kindness and respect. will definitely never be returning and am truly upset about my experience.

Most chaotic and disorganised emergency room I've ever seen. On arrival you're told to go to Window 1 or 2, but not told anything about the long informal 'queue' for each Window, snaking around the room. Cue much confusion, people pushing in and at least one person breaking out in tears, defeated because they don't know *how* to navigate this chaos while alone and clearly in a lot of pain. Coles Deli does 'waiting' better than this - using numbered tickets or buzzers would have transformed this into a much easier experience. Has nobody in management considered this? Surely the first step to healing is not to be made confused, anxious and frustrated the moment you walk in. While I am thankful that the doctors did diagnose my condition; with one doctor in particular being excellent, another doctor also failed to care for me properly; by giving very lax hand-waving directions to 'go down that corridor and you'll find us' while I was in a confused state with a splitting migraine (which I had told them about). This resulted in me getting lost and back 'outside' in the emergency room, feeling vulnerable with a Cannula in my arm. I had to queue up for the triage window all over again just to speak to someone who could get me back 'inside' and reunited with the doctor. All because that doctor hadn't bothered to walk me the 20 paces up the corridor to the correct door themselves. Only at the very end of my 10+ hour stay was I offered two Panadol for the splitting migraine I'd told each of the care staff about. I would have had better pain relief at home. Mixed feelings about leaving a 2 star review because ultimately I did get access to some advanced medical care including a CT scan; but Austin really have to re-think the basics, to do their doctors and patients justice and this ought to be called out.

Absolutely disgusting service. Avoid at all costs! My father had an urgent operation booked at this hospital. He was waiting on the date and details of the operation. There was no communication from the hospital at all. When he made contact, according to the hospital, they had they had "lost his operation in the system". This delayed it by more than a month. What hospital loses the operation? This delay only put my father in further discomfort, so much so we were forced to call the ambulance. I was put in the scenario of driving him to the Austin Hospital as ambulances were exhausted at the time. At the ER that night, the seated area was full, and the line was long -- as expected. Only a single window was opened originally, and a woman with her baby was being treated at that window. However, what shocked me was the sheer nonchalance and no-care factor from the nurses themselves: walking around the office in casual convo, laughing amongst themselves while the ER was in chaos. As we were seen, the nurse who took my father's blood squirted it all over the floor and on his clothes. Due to the severity of the situation, this nurse also told us that he would get the next bed. Almost 10 hours later, he was still left waiting overnight. Fed up, he told the desk he was going to admit himself to a private hospital instead, to which the young nurse replied with attitude that he should have just done that in the first place. She was told that his original surgery was booked at the Austin Hospital, so that's why we had come there for the convenience of both parties. What a joke! The service and care were abysmal. My father was then taken to a private hospital where he received the very best of care, and was operated on. He gladly cancelled the delayed operation at the Austin Hospital.

I went into emergency after overdosing on pain medication. I was kept overnight and moved to a quiet ward that had a nurse assisting it. All I asked all night was to get a uti test. I often get them from my injury and they play havoc on my emotions and mood. I was given a cup in ER downstairs. I took it to 2 other wards with me when moving. They had all night and all morning to dip it and I would have had Anti-biotics. It was sitting there with my breakfast in the morning. I asked a heavily pregnant nurse several times who didn’t do anything. I wasn’t even seen my a doctor but only the mental health person before I was discharged. They threw out my sample without ever testing it because I followed it up with the CATT team and was told there wasn’t any record, but the nurse told me nothing came up and she didn’t seem honest because I asked her so many times and she was grumpy. My gp is away and I don’t have the means to go get tested and have it done again but I still have the same symptoms. How hard is it to do your job? There were at least 10 different staff that could have done it at any time. They already had me strapped to a monitor. I’ve worked in busy medical environments and it wasn’t busy that night. For me to be chasing this 2 weeks later and being in pain and discomfort because I was ignored. It’s really pathetic The curtains were open where my bed was all night. About 10 student doctors saw the patient next to me in the morning and just overflowed into my room. When I asked them to close the curtains, one of them gave me a dirtiest look. It’s not fun being in hospital. Show your patients some respect. Do your job that requires less than 2 minutes of your time.

Austin hospital Ed is the last place u ever ever want to go there. We had worst experience in the world. First time we had gastroscopy Done, young doctor accident cut his vein caused internal bleeding, we checked in Ed same night, they refused to call specialist Come back check in the evening , told me the blood test result showing everything is good. Second day after my strong insist , they finally found out my family member was bleeding badly , had 4 big bad blood translate . Second time , my family member Had stroke , Ed young doctor misdiagnosed, told us not stroke , send us home,so we lost best treatment time , after that he lost lots of mobility function . This morning , old man suddenly had non stop bleeding nose, we drove him in, after 45 minutes waiting in Ed, no any attention apart from waiting, finally a nice nurse come over told me press the nose to stop the bleeding which they could do that when we check in. Guess what , nobody care. Part from the parking girl keep chasing me move the cars which 7:30 no any other cars were there while i was keeping wiping old man’s bleed nose and helpless , meanwhile has to move the cars? It was joke and absolutely disaster . After 1:30 hour we got treated , lovery doctor did simple treat, told me will be fine, if bleed again, come back , he will put “thinking hat “ on again. Guess what , we got home , in one hour, nostop bleeding again, this time we went to melbourne eye and ear hospital this time, be told Austin doctor didn’t treat properly …. Again another disaster from Austin , we can’t be more angry than this. How much blood we have lost to Austin …

Had to go there with an ambulance from an accident scene. My wife and my mother were the patients. My mother had language barrier and was frustrated to be alone and my wife have white coat syndrome and was scared. I had to keep go in between cubicles to calm both down. My wife got discharged on a wheelchair about 10minutes before my mother and I bought her into my mother’s cubicle to wait for mum. The young nurse came and asked my wife to go out the emergency department and wait for us to join her after my mum get discharged. I explained the whole situation to her very politely and she gave me an awkward look and left without saying anything. After 2 minutes she came back again and said your wife can’t stay in here with you, we have a policy that every patient should have only 1 visitor and I explained to her again that my wife is not a visitor, she was a patient and she has WCS. She started being rude and yelling at me in front of the other patients and doctors. The doctor came and I explained everything to him and told him that if you want respect from the public, the health team need to respect the public as well. I was already frustrated and scared because of the accident and the attitude of the nurse that night made everything worse. By the way, I am also a health student and I obey the rules but this was more a race issue. It wasn’t the first time I experiences racism acts in Australia.

Worst experience of my life…arrogant and heartless nurses…my eyes were full of tears standing right infront of the nurse telling her it’s emergency. I felt like I was nearly to death but still waited for 3 and half hours in emergency area, right now it’s 2:50am and suffering my bad health at my home. Later, I asked the lady in the receptions how long it will take to see the doctor, she said “I have removed your name from emergency part it might take another 4-5 hours”…Seriously??? I was crying having headache, I was hardly breathing, I had nose bleeding… and she said go see your GP, it’s not emergency. If it wouldn’t be emergency, why would I drive half an hour at 10 o’clock at night to be there? I was not able to see my GP at 10 o’clock at night that why I was in emergency…but they asked me to wait till morning and still wasn’t sure that I would get a chance to see the doctor. Next time I would better die than visiting here…because it’s similar to waiting for the whole night or day to see the doctor…. then, why is it called emergency?….. :(

Beautiful service and extra care from ED team as well as Paediatrics team. My baby had a badly swollen eye and had to come to ed at night. I was first impressed by the motto “Register like a life depends on it” at the registration and really, they treated us seriously and attentively. After 3 days my baby has been getting much better because all the nurses and paediatricians wholeheartedly took care and constantly followed up my baby’s condition no matter day or night. I dont know how to thank you them enough and hope this review can do something. Special thanks are sent to Mary, whom we first met on the very first night at Paediatrics cos she has always been so sweet and helpful to us, and to Phoebe who frequently checked on us every time she had a shift and is super friendly I have to say. On top of that, all the nurse team and doctos are too wonderful and it is such a lucky chance to meet them all. 10 stars would be my choice if there is higher rating.

  • Tanya D

I have been very disappointed by my experience at Austin Hospital. The communication is poor and limited. The Dr's I have meet have been friendly and informative. However the specialist gave me a card with details of nurse in charge to contact if I had any questions, its been impossible to be put through to her. More concerning I had bloods done then review of results in a pre-admission appointment however one key results was ignored and over the next few months I got rather sick and my condition (which I was not made aware of) got worse. When I attempted to follow up with the department I was rudely told it wasn't their problem and to see my GP. However I can't have the surgery while this condition is unmanaged and it adds additional risk to the surgery so would have appreciated knowing the results. I have attempted for the last month to call the Auston patient experience team however phones ring out and and they don't return calls.

  • Lin Carolane

Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because of outstanding services in2019. Austin has had serious "operational problems " for years. They still do. Lost referrals,no communication between their departments, lack of follow-up, and they don't share reports with your GP. I've been waiting for 18months for neurological/neurosurgical appointment. My condition has deteriorated badly. I have little to no use of my hands, keep having falls and back pain so bad I can't sleep most nights. I also have a history of recurring cancer. I've had CT scans done else where. They show my spine has become worse. Iwas told by specialist clinics that I won't be seen in foreseeable future. The patient experience person doesn't care. Waste of time trying. If they had the decency to advise my GP that they didn't intend to see me, I could have been referred elsewhere. I'm really scared the damage done is irreversible. Or a cancer metastasis.

  • Gwinea !

Been waiting for months for an appointment that they keep cancelling. Health has gotten worse to the point rch (who referred me) and my GP have said go to ED, as we have exhausted every option. I'm currently in ED, had to wait 4hrs just to get painkillers that they said they would get for me when we got here. Every time we ask a question, about meds/time/etc, we get a completely different answer. I'm in severe pain and it genuinely seems this hospital and all the staff couldn't care less. I'm crying in pain, not allowed to drink, so I'm getting severely dehydrated. What's the point of a hospital if they genuinely don't care. They only book appointments for the next 7 weeks, any longer and you get lost in the system. I'm genuinely looking at seeing if I can change to RMH or somewhere as this hospital is just making everything worse. It's not fair on patients at all.

The Austin Hospital is of the highest calibre we have in Victoria, world class as far as I’m concerned. My elderly mother suffered a stroke a few days ago there was no wait the nursing staff, doctors, neurologist were absolutely amazing. They did their best to make her as comfortable and pain free as possible and received excellent care probably better than a private hospital. My mother did pass away which was expected under these circumstances. The ambos were unbelievable they arrived within a few minutes including a stroke unit it was incredible to watch them attend to my mothers needs in this traumatic situation. Well done and a big thank you to the staff at The Austin Hospital and the Ambulance Stroke Unit which worked on her. God bless you for all your hard work! Thank you Mary

After Calling Austin Hospital, I'm seeing why I'm getting nowhere after 4 years of Severe Chronic Pain. Lack of Communication. No Communication. Very Poor Record Keeping. Also if You Don't Have A Dr, Don't Expect Any Medical Help From A Hospital. (Which means 50% of People in The Bush) I can't sit long, stand long, I'm getting 2 hours sleep a night for the past 4 years, which creates other Health Problems. It's Not Just Austin Hospital. As I've Tried Getting Help At Other Hospitals. But the Austin Stated in a Letter 2020, that there bookong me in for Surgery. Which They Never Did!! I Was under the impression Drs & Hospitals Were There to Help People. Not Create More Mental & Physical Health Problems. When You've Had No Quality of Life for 4 Years you Give Up! I Tried!! They Failed!!

It is actually seriously dangerous the way this place is run. Dead named my trans friend and brushed it off as "hazards of the lifestyle" when said friend had a necrotic cyst and was being sick in front of them and was in immense pain. End result? Sent them home with a suggestion to come back when the pain was unbearable and to use witchazel. Witchazel. What is this, the alternative medicine circuit. The pain was indicative of something quite serious we later found when a second opinion was sought. Turns out it was pre-cancerous. Thanks St Vincent's I guess. This place should honestly close down til it fixes itself If it can't actually address the issues of their patients with any consistency or thoroughness or RESPECT. Should be sued into oblivion. Shame.

If you wish to die, this hospital will be the best choice to make. My partner went to the ER for the sever injury that she cannot even sleep properly or move. It is clearly not just a muscle, more related to neurological issues. 9 hours was the waiting period for the person who is in excruciating pain, staff is not even consider to listen nor read about detailed information my partner provided. Call me i am entitled, but if you are not capable enough to take care of patient who cannot take pain meds because of tumor - you can at least provide alternative option to the patient for other places. And i repeat, 9 hours to wait and get done. Might as well just die on the floor if that is *emergency* service.

  • Lois O'Connor

I have been an outpatient of Austin Health since 2019 but until Tuesday have not had to receive care in the Emergency Dept. then the Short Stay ward. Despite having to wait 4 hours to be seen by a doctor due to the business of the dept., once I was inside I was seen immediately and all the necessary tests were done to try and diagnose my medical condition I came in for and I was transferred to the short stay ward to stay till they were happy to send me home Wednesday. I am a retired Division 1 nurse so know what is expected of proper care and that is what I got from every person I had contact with. I will be continuing to have care at Austin Health and am confident that I will be looked after.

Services. The recovery is very slow, knowing that the disease is in a very bad condition. Lack of attention and coldness of nerves. And bad dealing I ask the director of the general hospital to look into the situation and I ask the Australian government to look into the hospital services because they receive money from...medacer Waiting in emergency long hours that three hours, what I was Anthony you see the doctor very bad surface on the situation and all the people come in sick it’s very hard if there anyone sick waiting to the hours for hours until see the doctor I hear come into emergency. I hope the week Manager, look after everyone and change the bus situation for the Austin Hospital.

Absolutely Amazing place. Friendly staff and very understanding. Any international student can use this hospital facilities without worrying about any out of pocket costs because all the costs are deducted from their OSHC insurance. I would recommend anyone who would like to experience outstanding health service to use the facilities at Austin ❤️❤️❤️ Huge thanks to all the lovely staff , Dr Vanessa for her kindness and all others staff for guiding me and helping me to get through the time at Austin Hospital ♥️ Outstanding Emergency service with very reliable, understanding and kind staff who has good knowledge and skills to treat the patients right ❤️❤️❤️

Arrived at the ED last night around 8pm with my mum who had a serious condition, sat there until 3am, asked the nurses how many patients were in front of us there was still 10 patients! In the 7 hours we were waiting, about 5 people were called up to see the DR, there were very unwell patients falling asleep across the chairs and in their wheelchairs, other patients were looking after each other instead of the nurses or drs, the patients with more serious illnesses appeared to be put at the bottom of the line, I have never seen such poor quality of care, we left at 3am without being seen due to the exhaustion and lack of empathy the staff displayed.

  • Trevor Wickham

Our very independent Mum, Ivy 86yo was treated for a growth on her liver at the Austin in March 2022 and requires follow up scans every 3 months and the last three scans have come back as all is okay. The relief and confidence that this has given her and us is priceless. Mum even decided to travel from Vic to Qld earlier this year to visit and this is the same woman that 2 years ago said she was not travelling anymore but this operation and the magnificent care she received from the Austin has provided her with a new lease on life and the confidence to travel. Thank you Team Austin, much love and appreciation from us all and particularly our Mum.

  • Tanya Matthews

Myself, my son and numerous others have been treated like cattle, pieces of meat and general nuisances. Don't even get me started on the manner in which my elderly, dying parents have been treated. My solicitor says I have one hell of a lawsuit when my parents suffer a serious injury or die. This is due to the poor care, that isn't complying with their duty of care to our parents and putting the burden of their care back on us. I'd rather my parents were safe, well and living their best lives, with what they have left, rather than living with the constant stress and worry we're under and a large monetary pay off! This is neglect and elder abuse!

  • Andrew Gordon Nicholls

Take the negative reviews about lack of compassion and care with a pinch of salt - I’ve spent a great deal of time in the Austin over the years. Most recently when my 35 year old partner had an aneurysm rupture in his brain, the care they gave him was spectacular. Twice daily phone calls from the neurosurgical team keeping me up to date on his progress, really clear communication, nursing staff who knew everyone in neuro HDU’s name, addressed their visitors by name, they were kind and gentle with him during a very scary situation. He’ll be here a while yet, but I’m completely confident that this is the best place for him in his recovery.

  • Ballora Afton

Avoid here at all costs! I was here about a week ago roughly due to severe pain & etc. ( I wasn't able to function as a human being basically) I was treated poorly by doctors & nurses. They didn't listen to me or my carer about what was going on with me at all, and was very rude towards us even though we were being respectful towards them. They didn't even help me & discharged me within 2 hours, saying there's nothing wrong & that they didn't even have specialists to help someone like me in emergency situations. I suffer from a chronic pain condition and I'm wheelchair bound . DON'T COME HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY CHRONIC PAIN CONDITIONS!!

  • Katrina Wise

Pretty below average for myself, back problems- didn’t care that my results appt was well before the scan appt, how does that even work. Problems with details right the way through dealing with the hospital, they have poor communication. Very clear they have no care for people living beyond the city edge. Problems that should have been straightened out months ago are still current & details still remain incorrect & now I have to see my doctor to try and figure out the mess they’ve created, if not just start again from scratch. Very disappointing when my grandmas experience was so different.

  • Basak

I don't know what are they doing there but my 12 months old baby had a referral 3 weeks ago because of really bad ongoing cough and still didn't hear from them. I called the hospital and asked and the receptionist said "doctor checks the referrals and decides whenever to see the patient". It's unbelievable. Very unprofessional. I will get referral to other hospital but l already waited very long and put my baby on risk because of them. If you have a chance never get referral for this hospital. Most of the people had bad experience anyway. And the good ones are probably fake accounts.

Doctors in hospitals play a crucial role in providing medical care, diagnosing illnesses, prescribing treatments, and overseeing patient care. "I had a major liver resection surgery where they try spent 10 hours saving my life. I was brought in as an emergency and sent to surgery within just 5 days." All doctor and Also certified nurses in the ICU being professional, But some nurses in regular rooms may not be as attentive. In the past few days in the regular hospital room, many nurses who are here for training have been loud and inattentive to every patient.

  • Jenny May

I rang The Austin today to organise ultrasound to be sent to GP. Phone answered super quickly on main switchboard; very helpful (transferred me to incorrect department BUT that person quickly told me who to ask for and put me back to switch). Then got thru to the right person. Also helpful. When people answer the phone and it’s not a machine on an extension: this is rare and wonderful. Well done The Austin. I’ve had to ring hospitals often over the last year because of elderly parents and I will say you are top of the class!! (Take note Box Hill Hospital…)

Attended emergency as I had a fall at home at 21.30 Mon 02.01.23. Massive haematoma on back of head. Spent 7.5 hrs waiting for doctor with a collar on. Saw a female doctor at 05.00 am Tues 03.01.23. Told I needed a scan so collar could be removed. Had ecg done the a male doctor came and spoke to me with female doctor. They assessed my spine for any injury removed collar and discharged me. No scan done. Now 8 days later I still can't sleep on that side. I have a spongy spot o my head that tingles and painful. Service was disgusting

Best hospital in Melbourne right here, uderstanding and respectful staff, accommodating my needs with my long wait. By offering nice well crafted Sandwhiches and Crackers too boot, listening to what I wanted out the service here and they have nice comfertable bedding here too. 10/10 All Rounder Thank you, to all the great workers here. Here's a nice cute Baby Seal photo for you all(: Something to add the people here are very knowledgeable and easy going too. I'd definitely say they deserve a pay rise for their great efforts

My comment refers to a switch board operater Anna.. at Austin Health. Her voice was cold and rude it sounded like she hated her job and just didn't want to answer any more calls, she was so rude I asked her if she actually worked there? maybe I rang the wrong number, Receptionists and Switch Board Operators are the back bone of any business.... If you don't like working there in this position Anna, it's time to let someone else do it... Everyone else that answers the callers requests are friendly, polite and professional....

Upon arriving and departing the Emergency Department I received an extremely high standard of care and attentiveness with kindness from all staff attending to me. I felt extremely comforted receiving regular checks not just for my severe injury but checking on my well being and my coping with the situation. My fear of the unknown after my accident was daunting, yet I was continually calm in Austin Hospital emergency department thanks to the staff and their expertise. My sincere thanks to all who cared for me. Christine ox

I have a family member that comes to Austin hospital on a regular basis due to suffering from cancer and whenever I have come to the hospital with him the nurses they use to check people in are some of the rudest people I’ve ever come across, imagine coming in to a hospital already sick then having people treat you in a disgusting manner. I don’t know how I feel about leaving my loved ones alone with these people since they give out a very much careless attitude towards their patients. Always a very unpleasant experience

Bitter-sweet post I lost my dad today. He suffered from breathing problems and had been in icu 2 times before including a long 1 month stay and this being the third time in icu. Unfortunately his condition this time was extremely severe and he was also a lot older and he sadly passed away. But I want to thank the lung specialists and icu team for all the great job they did throughout his stays without which I wouldn't have spent that extra quality time with him last few years. Australia really is a lucky country.

  • Fatih

Avoid at all costs. I was advised by my doctor to go emergency ASAP for suspected DVT a serious condition. Upon registering my self the nurse was really rude and said why would a doctor send you here we don’t do ultrasounds at night but it’s up to you if you want to stay and wait for a doctor. I was dumbfounded when he said that. A nurse who thinks they know more than a doctor ridiculous. I felt like I was not welcome in a public emergency department. Who are they to judge. Discrimination at its finest.

  • Janet

My daughter went to ED after consulting the Nurse on Call and waited for more than 8 hours at the emergency department and returned home without being seen by any doctor. This was her first time into ED as she was very very sick and no other GP was available to see her. Like her hundreds of patients after waiting for hours left ED without being seen by any doctor. Now I know why people call 000 to access hospital facility using the ambulance! This hospital is overstaffed and there is no accountability!

  • J. Lo

Thank you for this great hospital and its services. We're attended right away after dropped off at the emergency unit at 3.30am. Registration was very quick and we only waited less than 10 minutes before the doctor asked us to go in and put my daughter straight away on bed. They gave medication for pain relief and quickly did the blood and urine test as well as the ultrasound. We're referred to another great surgeon in Bulleen for surgery which is fantastic for her services as well. Thanks once again.

  • Odin Drengr

I went here cause my left arm started going numb naturally freaked out and called an ambulance they had me wait for 4 hours and when my symptoms got better (false alarm) basically told me that it would be another 2 to 3 hours before a Dr saw me and that they didn't know why my arm was going numb or why I had chest pains do not come here if you have an emergency they treat there patients according to the interest level of there condition(if your symptoms are boring you'll be waiting).

  • Mary Ponzio

Mostly great hospital but you have a problem I think I can fix. My visits there have never been for a terminal illness, I am not dying but to not allow a spouse to be there for his wife of close to 40 years as she drew her final breath is very wrong. Why not give people in this situation an n95 mask and let them be there, not that people die alone. This is sickening to think you are devoid of the necessary empathy and compassion you normally have in your interactions with me.

  • Michael Campbell

Both the "screener" at the door and the nurse behind the counter were rude to the point of near-hostility. Neither seemed interested in hearing what was actually wrong with my wife, and were much more concerned with telling me that I wasn't allowed to wait with her, despite her broken ribs making it near-impossible to do anything on her own. They of course didn't know any of these details, as they actively interrupted her anytime she tried to talk. An absolute disgrace.

  • Angel

Both times I have been to the Austin Hospital via ED and both times have been good. The drs and nurses are so comforting and supporting during a been difficult time. I was in tears for 3 hours and the empathy that was shown was exactly what I needed so thank you to everyone. I had to stay overnight, thankfully I am out now recovering at home. I can understand there jobs would be very demanding and under pressure and the nurses are doing a lovely job. Thank you

After coming in early morning I for stomach pain, they barely communicated with me. Said they would give me pain relief when I was in their fast track admittance but never did. Never gave me water. Spent 12 hours there to find out they discharged me without telling me so I had been waiting in the busy waiting room for 4 hours for nothing. Terrible communication between departments, had a person crying out in pain for ages and they weren't offered any pain relief

Used to sort of be an OK hospital. My wife had an appointment with nuerology over a year ago. Doctor advised he will make another appointment in 6 months to make sure my wife is OK. After 6 months I telephoned and was advised my wife is in the system and an appointment will be made for her. Later I telephoned 2 more times. It has now been way over 1 year and still no appointment My wife has a problem. If the system will allow me I would give 0 stars.

Very difficult to get any information. The Doctors rarely come to see you, and although the nurses are doing there best they are limited in what they are able to say or what they know. The food portions are also very small, leaving you always hungry, and they did not like me going outside for a smoke even though the physiatrist gave me permission, dome of the nurses blatantly lied saying I was not allowed out, they do realize this is not a prison.

Wonderful Hospital.. a tad noisy.. but the noise was fun noisy as the overstretched Nurses caught up with each other. I really can’t commend these hard working Nurses enough, they were all magnificent under clearly trying circumstances ie government financing insufficient.. what’s new? Not one of them complained about the lack they just carried on with what they had to make their patients as comfortable and happy as possible. Five Stars!

We have been in emergency yesterday because my wife's situation was very bad , and they make her an X RAY scan , and we have been told after that , the doctor will meet you shortly more than once , after 4 hour's of waiting we still never meet any doctor . I want to know what's going on? Note : the nurse that care about my wife was very kind and generous. But we still confused like lost in somewhere. Because we still waiting the doctor

On September 22, 2023, I called at 4:33 pm regarding an appointment! They put me on hold for 57 minutes and in the end no one answered, but they disconnected me from the line exactly at 5:30 pm because they ended their working hours! !!! Shame on you, if you are short with workers, patients don't have to pay the price of your miserable work. You don't deserve a single star, I'm forced to put it in order to leave a comment.

Was lectured by the triage nurse in ED about how I must go by the name on my birth certificate, then proceeded to wait three hours to be told nothing could be done for my condition. Two weeks later when the condition worsened, I went to St Vincent's ED instead, where they had no issues using my current name and sent me home with three scripts and a specialist referral. Avoid this place like the plague.

Nurses are the only ones that do anything. No beds.ihad 1 ct scan they see something bad starved me for 3 days asked for a second ct scan it would be a waist of money even if I wanted to pay for it. I ask if they could have made a mistake?? Not these guys apparently no chance!!!! I end up having major sergury for nothing thanks for the medical opinions clowns

Never Answered Phone in wards and when you go there they reduce ring volume and don't Answer phone and dont care and keep chating between them. This is so pathetic and they need more money for not doing their job. Govt should review all Hospital by camera about their work performance. I feel for receptionist who try to transfer phone to relevant departments.

I am so grateful to the Austin's Emergency Department and Intensive care Unit and their Ward staff. I am disappointed though in their Specialists Clinic where I went yesterday for a checkup and if required will explain the reason for this as I do not want to describe publicly as I am quite deaf and may have misheard as I wasn't wearing my hearing aids.

The health is broken at the Austin hospital. I need a scan for my back and I have been waiting 3 months to get it done. 5 years ago they would have seen me straight away. Last time I was at the Austin, I waited a very long time just to get checked to see if i was okay after having a seizure. The hospital could much better at seeing patients quicker.

  • Mo Loni

The ginger nurse turned me away after I told her I was throwing up blood after my back surgery. "I don't care if your throwing up blood you have to wait atleast 4 hours like everyone else" Have some self decency as a nurse and try to treat everyone with some respect.your not getting paid to do anyone favours you are getting paid to do your job.

Went to the neuroscience department for my daughters EEG, and all I can say is Connie is an absolute asset to that department. Friendly, helpful and goes beyond her call of duty. She made a very stressful experience and absolute joy. Also the nurse who preformed the EEG did a great job at keeping my stressed daughter calm and comfortable.

I attended the Austin hospital emergency department on the 19 of October 2023 in a massive amount of pain. And I could not speak highly enough of the treatment I received from Dr Anne Saunders and the team of nurses in the department. Everyone did an amazing job to diagnose the problem and the treatment was nothing short of 5 star.

I had an open wound it just need a plaster,, the reception was so nice and lovely she explained to me everything,, she called the nurse(andrew) he was so kind as well as the reception, he helped me even though it was a busy night, i’m so thankful that i came to this hospital, i will recommend everyone to go there . …

My wife was attended by the emergency doctor, Dr. Anne Saunders. The service rendered by her and the team members are excellent. Besides medical treatment and she did share with us how to take care our health and what we should do for yearly check up to keep us healthy. Bravo! to Dr. Anne Saunders and her team again.

The staff can be a little hit and miss. Some staff are friendly and helpful, yet others are quite uncooperative. The Repat campus is an archaic facility, and it can be a very long walk from your parking spaces to your clinic. I'd recommend taking a taxi or have someone drive you to your appointment

  • Shine Lin

Most of staff are super nice and really care BUT the food could have more range. The nurses taking care of me were all very caring and made me feel happy. Very good experience. Some staff were a bit rude though but most were nice. The lady at the reception made me wait for a very long time.

  • Lynds Galluzzo

Went in an ambulance. The nurses and doctor in emergency were so gentle and caring. Was to be admitted so went to short stay, absolutely first class! Own room and bathroom. From there to ward and I cannot speak highly enough of all the nurses and doctors. Austin you are number 1. Thank you

This hospital has left our life stranded ,a person who drove the car for an elective procedure has made him disabled and shattered our lives due to medical negligence. Their complaints process is broken and no follow-ups. There is no care factor. Best to directly complain to HCC.

  • Shirley Wain

I was in the Ambularory care centre today for an 11.00am appointment, only to be told that I was a day early. Lynn at admissions was unbelievably kind, and found out that they could fit me in today. Thank you Austin Hospital and Lynn for your fabulous service you deserve 5 Stars.

  • Catherine Ward

I was really looked after when I had to come in and get my gall bladder removed. Super, super accommodating staff, who made sure I was comfortable, even in a pandemic. Incredible surgical team, and the nurses who looked after me were so sweet. Thank you for your incredible work.

  • Jordan Jamieson

You can slap lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig. Outdated hospital with cosmetic fixes that don’t assist staff or patients. ED is poorly run and lacked any organisation which results in blown out lead times. Better off taking the extra drive and heading to another hospital

  • Susan Ball

I've recently spent 4 days in the Austin after a spinal procedure. All the nurses were kind, friendly and compassionate. All the visiting allied health staff were helpful and knowledgeable. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 was the food. (Not great)

  • Helen Wyett

Disgraceful angry young boy working in front of triage, told my mother who was fainting to put a mask on! This cant be right? Uneducated, non compassionate and no clue we had to leave without treatment due to not being able to wear a mask! This is sickening

  • Phil Morrison

Arrived in an ambulance with internal bleeding. Every staff member I encountered was terrific from the funny small orderly girl who took me around for tests to the nurses and finally doctor. Waited a while but yes it is a public hospital.

  • Sibel

Wait times are atrocious, but I suppose that’s what you sign up for when you decline private health care. Once they get you in a room and get you medical attention, it’s good, but getting into a room can take up to 6 hours here.

  • Kevin P

Long waiting times in ED but standard of care is awesome. Dr Ali and the nursing team are amazing. They stopped and explained everything and had an actual conversation to put me at ease instead of rushing me out like cattle.

  • Antonio Ciaffaglione

I had to wait a little bit too long before being seen by a doctor in the Emergecy department, but then it was all fine. Staff super helpful and professional, including nurses Claire, Liz, Rebecca and Dr Daniel Crisafi.

  • Lauren Gannon

I was so happy with the level care I received for my 18 month old. They took his case of gastro seriously and treated overnight at the short stay. All the staff were wonderful. I’m so thankful for their help.

  • Jazmyn Brown

I came in to get a tumor removed, I was clean as a whistle, couple of days in this hospital while recovering I ended up with herpes in the mouth the (HSV/STD) I have not eaten in 10 days as it's to painful

  • Taylor Leigh-Jones

Felt very cared for in their fast track emergency department. Every one was very attentive and took very good care of me, all tests came back very quickly and I felt listened to and respected!

  • John Witte

Bad treatment. Was forgotten about for two days just meds. This hosp better pull its socks up. Theytreat the elderly like garbage. The nurses were great which bosted the score from -10 to1

  • mark holley

Thank you very much My son broke his arm. The nursing staff was so nice and caring. The time was not long. I really was impressed with their care. I highly recommend it
