The gym's offerings are good. Its a no frills kind of place but reasonably priced and great location. Unfortunately, my life style changed where I started working on the road a lot more and needed to cancel. In December I went to the gym in person to cancel and was assured it would be taking care of. Fast forward 3 months, I am still being charged. Each month I called and each month I'm assured the issue will be fixed and the amount that was charged (beyond the first month of cancellation) would be put back on my card. In the past month, when I call and email no one picks up or responds. I've come in person, but am told the person at the desk can not help and that I'll need to speak with management. I have 2 kids and job that requires a lot of travel and don't have time for these games. I'm happy to modify this review if there is a misunderstanding, but I struggle to see it any other way at this time given the lack of communication. I've seen instances of fraud in other comments and wonder if that is whats happening to me too. The gym has made unauthorized draws on my card twice so far. Unless I hear something this week, I'm just going to cut my losses and block the vendor on my credit card. Unreal.... If you consider joining this gym, I highly encourage you to only pay your membership in cash.

Let me start by saying this gym does have things going for it. It’s in a great location (you can park for free too), the receptionists are nice, and they have a great variety of equipment. The price is pretty good for the area too at $65 a month plus annual fees. However, that’s about where the good things end. The equipment is old (some of the squat rack supports are bent and many of the plates are chipped). At the squat racks, there are even gaps in the matting on the ground that you can get injured on if you aren’t careful. The place gets HOT in the summer. How can you have a place this big without AC? One fan, no matter how big it is, won’t help. It’s actually really uncomfortable on the warmest days. There are leaks all over the building. Puddles and buckets are a common sight. If cardio is your thing, many of the machines aren’t even plugged in. Overall, it’s not bad. Hell, I’m even still going here because there isn’t a better option for me. But there is a frustrating lack of care that goes into managing this gym. It could be a lot better than it is.

Only true weightlifting gym in the neighborhood. Good assortment of free weights and cardio equipment. 0 amenities which is fine if you are prepared for it (no water fountain but do have an office style water dispenser, 1 bathroom stall, no locker room). My big issue is their inability to open on time, especially on weekends. On several occasions they have not opened until over an hour after they were supposed to. People often wait outside then go home after they realize no one is coming. Today 3 people waited about 30 minutes before leaving. I have reached out via email and left voicemails when this has happened, but have received 0 response. *Update- While the gym has done a great job of making changes to help battle covid this year, they are still unable to open on time on the weekends. This is the first Saturday in a bit I have been able to get to TSF in the morning, and sure enough they aren't open when they are supposed to be. Almost 9:30 and I have seen several members walk up to the locked gate, wait a few minutes, then leave.

I genuinely don't understand how such a great opportunity for a gym with this great location could have so much wasted potential, and how the rating is so great here. Holes in the ceiling everywhere forces the staff to put out buckets everywhere when it rains. half of the barbells are unusable due to wear, bending, rust and improper care. Inadequate bathroom necessities. (they "don't do paper towels" and offer no way to dry your hands other than to use cleaning rags.) 85+ degree temperatures in the gym. Floor mats splitting at dangerous locations in the squat racks and around the facility. Imbalanced weights at many of the machines. Calling this a "no frills" gym is not an excuse to let the facility literally fall apart. For $70 a month, this doesn't even come close to meeting the bare minimum of what someone pays that amount for. Topping this off, canceling your membership is not guaranteed because apparently employees do not actually know how the process works. It's appalling.

This gym has put me through a HORRIBLE billing and customer service experience. I was working in DC for one month back in October 2017, so I joined for one month only. I made that explicitly clear during my sign up, but in January 2018 I noticed that I'd been billed for 2 extra months. I have been calling every 2 weeks for FOUR MONTHS to get these charges reversed -- not only have I received no refund, but one employee inexplicably charged me an additional $78 for no reason. The owner Kent has refused to get on the phone with me or return calls or emails and the manager David has repeatedly blown me off. I don't understand why they won't just refund me the $156 I am owed. It is truly cruel to make someone call over and over and over again and refuse to give a working person a refund for your mistakes. I plan to report Total Source to the Better Business Bureau.

  • Gerald Regep

I love this gym, hands down. When i moved to DC I looked for a place that was affordable, within walking distance, and had the equipment i needed to stay in shape. Total Source gave me just that. Total Source Fitness is run and owned by Kent, a straight up dude who never fails to ask you how you’re doin. I’ve seen some comments that suggest that TSF is poorly run and a low-quality gym. In my experience, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Kent has been straightforward with me since i first joined the gym. I had an issue where my membership was charged twice in one month, an accident he fixed after I spoke with him. The correction took a week or two, but he made it right and was transparent with me the whole way through. Sometimes things take time with computers and logistics. As long as you’re straight with him, he’ll take care of you. Love this place.

Awesome gym. For people truly interested in body building, weight lifting, and fitness. Knowledgeable staff. Dumbbells available up to 150 lbs. Bring a gallon water jug, or be prepared to purchase water bottle or fill up your water bottle in bathroom sink. Be prepared to sweat. Large floor fans provide air circulation, but from what I observed no air conditioning available. Cleaning wipes available for wiping down equipment. Consider bringing a hand towel. I haven't asked specifically, but guys seem to be able to workout shirtless (which might help you keep your shirt from getting too sweaty). Free three-day trial pass was available when I first visited. People in town for short time period can pay minimal $10 charge for day use. Walking distance from Courtyard by Marriott Washington, DC/US Capitol NoMa-Gallaudet Red Line Metro.

Stay away. You will be fighting fraud for months dealing with them. Somebody giving good reviews here is lying. I canceled and they still continue to charge my card. I went in person and the person told me I owe them money. If a person misses a payment for a monthly service, you revoke service you don’t accrue charges for a service they wouldn’t be able to use. Then won’t let you cancel until you make that up which is ridiculous. I wouldn’t be able to use the gym if I walked in but still have to continue to pay you? The lady in the front was completely hostile when i was trying to cancel and REFUSED to cancel my service. Completely shady billing practices and will commit fraud against you. Look at their YELP reviews. Somebody even said they used their card during Christmas. Ridiculous business.

  • Robert H

I'm originally from California and was excited when I discovered TFS as it's just like the gyms back home with its warehouse feel and outdoor turf area with tires and sleds. Been going to this gym for almost 2 years now. If you're trying to get a good pump in or want to do some solid HIIT outside on the turf area, this is the best spot in DC. The owner Kent is legit and cares about his customers. He and his staff of trainers go out of their way to get to know their members and really give the gym a neighborhood feel. Membership fees are the best in the city as you won't be paying those ridiculous Vida or WSC prices. This is a lifters gym no doubt, but if you're new to the game, Kent's team will get you rolling and in shape. If you're going to Vida or elsewhere, you're just throwing away cash.

  • Danni G

Terrible billing practices. Will double/triple bill you and will continue to bill after you have canceled your Membership. Don’t let them have your credit card number. Edited to address owners comments: No one ever said this is a free gym. BUT it is not unreasonable to ask that a business doesn’t REPEATEDLY incorrectly bill their customers. Purposely or no it happened several times...so much so my husband (after trying and trying to resolve with you directly) quit the gym. He quit in person and in writing. Months later he’s still seeing charges from your gym show up. And he’s not the only one. Your yelp reviews clearly establish this as a pattern so if nothing else knowing that there is a continued issue with billing is a grossly negligent way of doing business.

I have been very please with my workout experience at Total Source Fitness gym. I have been training for nearly a year and have yet to come into any issues with the staff, equipment, or atmosphere. The encouraging environment has definitely motivated me to work out more and get more active. Trainers are very accommodating with their schedules and classes. Also, I have never been to a gym with the owner present and interactive with members daily- I see there are negative comments( which are false) the owner, Kent, is extremely considerate, understanding and flexible with the terms of membership. It seems the only reason one could have an issue is if THEY are incorrect and/or disrespectful. This is my honest opinion and you should see for yourself!

Updating my review after a few months of coming here as a guest. I have found more appreciation for this gym than the gym I belong to. I’ve never had to wait for any equipment here. They have everything you’d need. Never too packed. Still leaks in places is the only thing. Has been consistent $10 since last review. Would join this gym if I lived closer. Lots of gym equipment & heavy weights. Perfect for big dudes who lifting is their passion or small guys who want to get big . Only bad thing is leaks everywhere (Buckets pictured). Cold in the winter. Cost of bringing guests changes every time based on who’s working. $10 to $20 per visit. This place has a lot of potential but needs a little work.

  • Kristofer Nivens

I really appreciate the hell out of this gym. I've been a member of 24 Hour Fitness and Anytime Fitness, and done trials & guest passes at Gold's Gym and Planet Fitness because I move/travel a lot and always need to find a place to exercise or I'll go crazy. Total Source is one of my favorites. The staff are very personable, responsive, and friendly. The equipment functions well and the gym itself is in an old warehouse - perfect for people who want no-frills workouts or bootcamps in a friendly and supportive environment at a great monthly price. It's also right next to Union Market, so if you're the type to run and get a tasty post-workout treat, you're on the right block!

  • Denice Socha

The gym and prices are ok. My issue was with a trainer. I enrolled in a CrossFit class, I got sick and had to miss a couple of sessions, when I came back he gave me the silent treatment. What are we, 10? Refused to instruct me or include me in any group. This was a while back, hopefully he’s gone. In response to your comment: Yes, it was a while ago. I’m planning to return to the area this summer and recalled this negative experience when I came across your gym. I am not aware of your contracting policies but that was my personal experience. Good luck with your business in 2022. And for the record, I love the small black owned businesses that I frequent.

  • Tyler Normandin

I am from out of state, but was staying in NOMA for an internship for about 4 months. I found Total Source Fitness through Google Reviews, and could not have been more pleased with the gym. They have all the equipment you: dumbbells, barbells, squat racks, etc. The price is great for D.C. The staff is extremely friendly, honest, and respectful. They also have group classes and personal training for those interested. It's never super overcrowded either; there's enough space and enough equipment to keep everyone well-dispersed. I would recommend this gym to anyone and everyone. Honestly one of the best gyms I've ever worked out in.

  • Connor Davenport

Canceled my membership with the staff, was assured by the team that it was completed. Moved out of state to see that i’m still being charged two months later. Called every day with no answer. Asked on their Instagram page if anyone could assist me in efficiently canceling and I WAS BLOCKED. Made a second account to send this review to mention just how insane this is. Worse experience with a gym i’ve ever had. EDIT: Month 3 comes around and i’m still being charged for the subscription I cancelled. Still no answer from anyone on anything. Do not give your money to these people.

  • Jake Friedberg

Best gym in DC hands down. TSF has a super-friendly staff, great prices, trainers at the ready, and more. The gym is equipt with all the gear you'd ever want and has plenty of space so you won't feel crowded. Not only do I recommend this gym because I love the vibe, but the outdoor section with tires, weight-sleighs, sludge-hammers and more make it truly unique. There is also convenient parking right at the front entrance. Kent and the guys do a terrific job making sure the gym is clean and their members are happy, I know they'll continue to keep TSF the best gym in DC.

  • Nicholas Quazzo

This is a trainers gym. Definitely good for people who need a temporary gym while they’re in DC. The owner is particularly nice in that he gave me a discounted rate on the membership fee since I’d only be in town for a month. You come for the equipment (which they have a lot of, in quantity and diversity), not the amenities (which they have few of). The outdoor space is a really nice added option. Biggest issue would be that there was some leaks in the roof but it didn’t impact anybody’s workout from what I observed. 9/10, will definitely be coming back.

  • Hellen Papavizas

I'm a new member of Total Source Fitness, and it's a great gym. The equipment and staff are terrific. The vibe is inclusive and chill, and you'll be treated with respect regardless of your fitness level. I've worked out at numerous gyms in DC - both CrossFit and conventional gyms - and Total Source Fitness is the best by far. And to clarify Total Source Fitness is totally separate from Downtown Boxing Club, which is housed in the same space. They are completely separate entities that have nothing to do with one another.

  • Rashauna David

Total Source Fitness is my go-to gym. If you're a gym goer, this is the gym for you. Very hardcore and has all of the equipment any big box gym has. The gym is also Black and community owned which is a plus for me. Kent, the owner of the gym, is very personable and willing to work with you if any issues arise. The gym is also centrally located which is a plus. After I workout, I can head right over to Union Market to grab me a smoothie. If you're looking for a new gym, you have to check this one out!

  • H Stepat

This is a great gym! I'm only leaving because I'm moving, but this gym has all the essentials. If you're into lifting heavy, training agility, and no frills gym experience, this is the one for you. Inexpensive too compared to some of the other DC gyms and Kent, the owner, really works with you. I was actually overcharged for a couple months and when I brought it up with Kent, he worked to make sure I was compensated in cash for the overcharge and inconvenience too. He made sure I was taken of.

  • Ciara Geoghegan

I love this gym! The owner, Kent takes such pride in his gym, really cares about his clients and has a real passion for fitness. Every time you walk through the door, you get a friendly welcome, there's no judgement and everyone comes to work hard, which is a hug motivator in itself! It has all of the equipment you could need to get a really great workout in and if your interested in PT, the trainers are very knowledgeable! Check it out- it's very affordable for a DC gym!!

  • Frank Pulkowski

Boxing side is a joke!!!! $110.00 month The owner of the part of gym asked me if I have any experience, I said Yes ive trained in mauy thai .He laugh's. Like MT was a joke!!!! I just walked out ,anybody thats trained in MT, BJJ would know its 100 × harder to workout in these art, a true" Trainer "would never laugh at another sportmen if he was good at what he does" Training people " You need to look in the mirror and practice your introduction to another athlete.

  • Josten Forsythe

If you’re looking for a gym to get an actual workout in, then Total Source Fitness is the place. With seven squat racks and a bunch of benches, I’ve never waited for a lift. While it’s definitely no frills, the regulars know their way around a gym, making it easy to move around and get work in. What’s more, Kent, the owner, gave me a break on my initiation fee because I’d only be in town for a month. Definitely give Total Source Fitness a try if you’re in town.

  • Maribel Padial

Fantastic gym! Staff is so welcoming, professional, and friendly. I also love how much open space is available for me to do my HITT workouts. Top of the line equipment and workout machines. No matter how packed the gym is I can always find what weights and other equipment I need for my workout because the owner made sure to meet all of his customer's needs. Highly recommend joining Total Source Fitness. Best gym I've joined by far :).

  • Devan

In a gains desert filled with planet fitness, CrossFit boxes, and other gimmicky workout gyms, Kent provides an oasis for people who are serious about working out and never want to worry about setting off a "lunk alarm". There's plenty of space, a ton of equipment, and everything someone of any fitness level needs to better themselves. Great gym, great price, great owner, and a good year of working out.

  • Reed Scherer

Just started coming here a few weeks ago, and honestly was initially scared by some of the bad reviews. But overall I’ve had no issues — it’s rarely crowded, tons of space and machines, and a pretty low stress workout environment. Definitely no-frills, and the locker rooms could use some work but given the price and convenience I can’t complain. Totally meets my gym needs as a casual after-work lifter.

  • Patrick Vidal

If you love to work hard and are looking for gritty gym in which the atmosphere motivates you to push yourself.. this is absolutely the place for you. This is that hardcore style gym that you have been looking for. When you walk in you simply want to move weight and work hard. Owner is very passionate. Awesome place. Give it a 3 day trial and I’m sure you’ll love it

  • Robert Rains

Solid, no frills space for getting a workout in. Pricing is good. There are leaks in the roof so there will be buckets all over the place when it rains. The music is the best I’ve ever heard at a gym. They have artificial turf for conditioning work. The only drawbacks are no assault bikes/assault runners and the rowing machine was rolled out and has not been fixed.

  • Cam Frasier

I love this gym. Close by and has all the equipment you need to get at it. This is a no frills gym. Just open space and tons of equipment. I go with my fiance to work out together and she is also a fan. She typically works with aerobic, alternative bands, and ropes. I definitely recommend this gym to people who are serious about getting fit!

  • B HF

They will scam you out of your money. The front desk David is extremely rude and argumentative. They lack professionalism and customer service. Just save yourself from coming here, because they will continue to charge you monthly after you cancel your membership, tell you that you are a liar and will not reimburse you your money. BEWARE!!!

  • Charles Porter

Solid and bare-bones, lifter's gym. Weeknights can get a little busy, but weekends have been nice and dead. It's a reasonable priced gym in my area with good hours and all the equipment and weight I could need for lifting and strength training. Great local community feel as well. I'd advise bringing enough water for your full workout.

  • Andrew Folsom

Great no nonsense no gimmick gym. If you are serious about fitness or want to get serious this is the gym for you. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable as well so no excuse for beginners. If you're happy passing away 10 bucks a month at planet fitness go ahead. If you want to do some work this is the gym for you.

  • Chris Smith

Great up-and-coming gym, adding tons of floor space soon. Good avail simplify and equipment. Its the only place in the city I can find a barbell at 8pm on a Saturday. Just don't expect much in the way of quality-of life stuff, like locker rooms or water fountains. Only necessities here, but literal room for improvement.

  • Stefan Piscitelli

My partner uses this gym because it’s the only one in Noma. It’s got everything you need and they def cater to “enthusiasts” — just wish it would open at 6 or 7 for those who work at 9 and can’t make it after work… maybe with the new development in the neighborhood and increase in 9-5ers they’ll start to open earlier?

  • Andrew Meehan

This is the best gym in dc. It's a no nonsense, no frills gym that has everything you need. Having lived in DC for over the past decade and trained at Golds, WSC, Vida, and Equinox, Total Source stands apart. It doesn't cost an arm and a leg and has a great community. Strongly recommend for anyone in the NE/NW area.

  • Peter Coyne

Just moved and had to cancel my membership after two years but this place has really become a quality gym with the improvements they are making and the new hours. I think a year ago this would have been a two star review, but now I'm not sure there is a better gym in the area and I'm gonna miss it.

  • James English

I had a good time training at this gym for the past 4 months! The staff was always approachable, and helpful when necessary. I kept to myself, got in and got out, and total source was the place to be for that. I utilized the turf outside, and the 6 squat racks never left me waiting to workout.

  • Tyler Dillard

No frills gym with excellent staff. It's a zero judgment zone where everyone comes to work hard. Owner believes in the personal touch and makes it a point to know & check in with all his customers, whether they're getting personal training or not. It's a great place to work out.

  • Aaron Anderson

This has got to be one of the coolest Gyms I've ever been a member of. Moved to the area, and they are the only true weightlifting gym, they have an awesome outdoor area too. If you have your evenings free or don't work a rigid schedule then this is the place for you definitely.

  • Clara Yoon

My husband and I have been coming to Total Source Fitness for almost a year now. We’re happy with our membership, it’s affordable and the gym has all the equipment you need. Everyone is friendly and the gym is in a convenient location. There‘s also parking available.

  • Mike Stankiewicz

Poor experience. Tried to get the attention of the woman behind the counter but no response, she was on her phone the entire time. No AC, awfully hot in the summer. Good equipment though but far too expensive for the bad service. Will not be signing

  • hunter hedman

This gym is phenomenally ran with the owner being transparent about transactions and providing regular updates (especially during COVID). The actual gym has everything you need with great personality. It's the perfect place to push yourself!

  • Hunter Holmes

I have happily been a member for over a year. Total Source is a great gym that has a surplus of machines for all workouts. I've never waited to use a machine no matter what time I went. The staff is beyond friendly and accommodating.

  • Alex Nicholson

First time to the gym today. It's a professional setup with plenty of equipment ranging from free weights to machines. The owner is very friendly and all together it was a great experience. I would recommend others of all ranges.

  • Peter Smith

Couldn’t work out, system was down , I was in town for a week, they could have let me work out and I would paid when I came back and paid for the week now they just lost a customer. The guy at front desk is clueless as well.

  • Matthew Isaac

Clean equipment, friendly and welcoming staff, and a good location. I just moved here from California and am very happy with Total Source Fitness, my new gym. Highly recommend!

  • Sherman Cordell

I love working out at this gym , because I know when I walk through the door it’s time to get it in. The way the gym is setup you have no choice but to want to get in shape.

  • Erica Lowe

Called, left a message. Texted. Emailed. Still no response. New to the area and wanted to come by to check out the gym. Seems like they are not accepting new customers.

  • Jeremie Delaleu

Club ok, but they charged me two times a month and never do something even though I have sent a few emails and speak directly to the staff about this issue. Dishonest.

  • Devlin Ganson

Great array of equipment in an awesome location. Kent and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful whenever a need arises. Highly recommend this gym!

  • Joe Merced

This is a no-joke gym. They have everything you need without all the additional fees and nonsense. Just owners that understand people who just want to work out.

  • Eric Borden

I've been a member of the gym for a few months now. Good no frills gym, with space inside and outside to do some serious work. Great facility, great equipment!

  • Spencer Clay

Came on Saturday at 930. No one here and no one answered the phone. What a waste. Hours are not correct online and no one to confirm

  • Iryna F
