With 4 squat racks, this gym has made an effort to get as much useful equipment in a their space as possible. While lacking in some "nice to have" specialized equipment (standing calf raise, plate loaded hip thrust, glute ham raise) they have all the bases covered (machine press, row, leg extensions, leg curl, seated calf raise, and more), a few nice specialized machines (e.g. lat raise machine, hip abduction/adduction, etc.) a fair selection of plate loaded upper body machines, and plenty of pulley machines. They have a wide selection of dumbbell weights (there's one dusty rack of 110+ dumbbells, not sure how high they go), pre loaded straight and ez barbells, and preacher stations and plenty of adjustable benches. For upper body barbell work they have 4 flat benches, one incline, and one decline, which is pretty nice. They have a tBar row for plate loaded rows and they have a hinge for a barbell so you can do rows or landmine presses. There are two Smith machines, which is 2 too many imo but in case that's your thing, they're often empty. This gym really does put in a lot of effort to be useful, maximize their space, and as a result has a lot of capacity and lower wait times than you might expect. The staff are nice and friendly too. The bathrooms are clean. The facilities include showers and a dry sauna. It would be nice to get a plate loaded hip thrust machine, the one weak spot for this gym is no real posterior chain isolation work. It's really not easy to find space (or enough padding!!) to do real BB hip thrust. It would also be nice to get a longer "lane" for lunges or farmers carries, but space is a limitation here already. I think they really deserve 5 stars because of the emphasis they've made on building a useful space, with as many squat racks and benches as can reasonably fit.

The staff here is terrible as is most of the equipment( rusty, dusty, old sweat stains on the treadmills) just what you need to make you not want to join. Been coming in a couple times a week before work to get in a little cardio and upper body while my preferred gym is being worked on and been told to check it at the computer and then give the front desk my name ( if they are there when you check in). Today the front desk lady was on a phone call and started slamming her hand on the desk and was pretty rude telling me I need to check in first. How can you check in with somebody who’s on the phone? I went straight to the computer as normal (per her previous instruction) to do what she had had me do in the past. If you’re going to change your process maybe get off the phone first to tell that person and not start with aggressive actions. nothing is inspiring here ( TV set to all male channels of interest or news, rust on equipment, mats falling apart, staff are either not around or trying to sell you a membership before you take a tour or workout). I didn’t really want to workout when I came in and now I definitely don’t feel like being here. What happened to “good morning!” ? When did we revert back to banging in things to communicate? What kind of service is this and who wants to be yelled? Also I had previously been in and no one was at the desk to check in. When I asked somebody in an office to help me check in they instructed me to look at another office. Why would you not just stand up and help the customer? Overall I feel bad for the staff because they don’t have leadership in place to help them communicate with members, entice people to buy memberships and promote a clean and vibrant gym.

I recently signed up for a personal trainer at Gold's Gym (Capital Hill), sat with the trainer and discussed pricing. I decided that I did not want or need 3 months of training which would allow them to debit my account an additional $200 plus bi weekly. I elected to purchase 8 1hr sessions and cut them in 1/2 to have 16 1/2 hr sessions. I was informed that I could. The next day 7/24/2017 (per my receipt), I came in and paid the fee. I never signed an EFT form authorizing any additional charges or changes. On 7/28/2017 Golds Gym Capital Hill, debited my account for $507.14. I called and paid Gold's Gym a visit on 7/28/17 and was informed that the manager was gone for the day and that there wasn't anyone else there that would be able to help. That I could contact him 7/29/2017. I contacted him 7/29/2017 and he assured me that a refund had been requested via email 7/29/2017 at 11:27 am. TODAY IS 8/7/2017 AND I HAVE NOT RECEIVED A REFUND! I spoke to my financial institution and was informed that they did NOT see in the system that a refund had been issued. I returned items on the same day that Gold's "requested a refund on my behalf" and the funds were credited to my account the next day, it is difficult for me to understand the delay. I am a government employee, when i signed up 8 months ago I was told that they did not offer a discount to government employees. I do not have a contract and when I spoke to the manager in regards to setting me up with the correct amount I was told that it would take too much paperwork to change it. I find this hard to understand when they were so easily able to change the amount of my biweekly debit from $21.14 to $507.14. I have been more than patient.

I dont usually write bad reviews, but i feel that my experience at Golds Capitol Hill needs to be shared. I also work in the fitness industry, and was hugely disappointed with my experience in this gym. I’ve trained in Golds Clarendon and also Golds Dupont Circle, and these gyms are fantastic. Clean, friendly staff, etc. However the Capitol Hill location is a stark contrast to these two gyms. The first time i trained here, i was surprised by the poor attitude of the guy at the front desk. I told him it was my first time in the gym, and he seemed irritated by the fact that he had to answer my questions about towel hire, where the bathrooms were, etc. I also noticed that the facility itself is quite dated, and nowhere near as well kept as the other two locations. During my third session training in the gym, i had my bag stolen- house keys, wallet, cards, etc. My EarPods were also taken, and the tracking device on them told me the stolen items were in the gym for at least a few hours after i realized my things had been taken- even after i went back looking for them. I have reason to believe it may have been a golds gym employee, but was met with utter rudeness and contempt by the manager the next day, when i called up to discuss the issue. The gym equipment and facilities are dated, the staff have terrible attitudes, there are clearly criminals within the gym walls and really, there are just way better fitness options in the area. I will never step foot in that gym again, and i’m honestly just so disappointed by my experience here.

If I could have given this gym minus five stars that would be generous! After over 5 years the manager Sam has finally managed to have me kicked from golds gym after years of what I can only looked at as a psychopathic obsession with me!!! I feel as if I was stalked around the gym, subjected to harassment justified in a narcissistic conversation patterns, I was refused access to equipment and area and reprimanded like a child what felt like every 5 minutes. No exaggeration! Once the issue could no longer be ignored it was brought to the attention of upper management I then thought I was being the bigger person but now was going to be receiving some long over due vindication. Instead I was slow walked lead on for two days, when I finally did receive a email the issue had been resolved it was to no surprise that I was the one looked at as responsible for this situation and ask not to return. To me saying this is common practice!! This is a gym I'm talking not a personal relationships , was pushed way past my comfort zone they could care less! I came for a workout I got an entanglement. I recommend sports and health Capitol Hill

I've been going here for a while now, and I very much enjoy it. When I get lazy and don't go for several weeks (cough months cough), it's always a pleasure to return. And when I'm not lazy, it's a pleasure to go in here on a daily basis. Convenient, too, being right between my office and the metro. Having been a member of a few other gyms, I appreciate some specific things about this gym in comparison. To name a few--there is adequate area for stretching; the people that work there (especially management) seem to be happy employees and happy that you're there as a customer; the place is clean--amazingly so, considering the amount of people that flow in and out of there each day; the equipment is solid and new and decently maintained. The gym is also way bigger than it looks from the outside, so there's plenty of selection and variety of equipment here--my muscles never get bored! All in all this place is great. Especially for the price. I would (and I have) recommend it to anyone!

  • Alexander Gristina

I would give a lower rating if I had the option. First, a good portion of the equipment has been regularly out of order. When I first noticed that problem I was understanding, but it took a long time for machines to be fixed, like close to a month. Second, their membership packages are disingenuous. They actually do not have no contract options. If you would like to cancel your membership they force you to pay for the next month, even though you've notified them before the next billing cycle. Sounds like a contract. Then they have the nerve to claim that every gym does the same. I've been a member of multiple gyms in multiple states and have never had a more difficult time canceling. You have to either come in person to cancel or ask for a certified letter to be mailed to you, there is no option to cancel over the phone or online. Extremely disappointed with this company.

  • Wanda Wright

I went online and signed up for a free 3-day pass to see if I would like the gym, the staff, and its vibe before joining. I moved back to DC and was looking for something closer to home. On Sat 11/6/21 I spoke with someone name Kit or Kitty and asked if I could come in and try out the gym. She asked if I had a DC license and I told her I still had my MD license, and hadn't had the chance to transfer it to DC. This person told me that I could not get a free pass with the use of my MD license, but I could immediately sign up and buy membership with my MD license. This was stupid and made no sense! This DC location is WACK!

  • Jessica Post

This is a great gym, and a great value. While it seems like a small space, it is full of new fitness equipment, nice locker rooms, and friendly staff. The group fitness classes are great, and offered at a nice variety of times. They are always seeking member input on things, including the quality of their facility. I know Gold's has a reputation for being filled with stereotypical gym rats, but I've found it to be a welcoming, friendly gym, filled with a clientele from diverse ages, backgrounds, and most importantly for me, fitness levels and goals. They have a great spin studio, and nice machines.

  • Edgar Calvillo (Ed)

It has become a greg gym solely based on their set up. Their front desk in the morning could be less aggressive & more mindfull . When i signed up the front agent was crude & rude, giving me a second tougher of thought in practicing at their facility. Because of the price i said yes but u regretting my decision three days aftR ALLL cause of their morning staff & how they greet people. When entering a gym the last thing a person needs is annoyance & distractions. Unfortunately thats what this gym brings.. i surely hope for things to change otherwise equinox and vida seem like justifying purchases.

  • Linas Matiukas

Best gold gym in DMV area. I've been to more than 10, since i occasionally go with different lifting partners in Baltimore and Virginia and DC. This one is as clean as the top level of Connecticut one, but the basement there has no windows and feels like prison with old equipment. This one has limited, but all new equipment that covers all needs. Very clean and very good staff and management that really care about what they do (or they do a damn good job showing that front). Member for 3+ years. I hear cancelation is horrible from everyone, but that's a corporate bs issue, not individual gym.

  • Alexandre Ngom

Abysmal customer service. You have questions and need to speak with a manager as their front desk can't help you enough, they refuse to put you through even though "the manager reviewed your account but I can give you their email". Now I have to get off work and make the trip to speak with a manager. The person who handled my paperwork when I first started (Mr. T he goes by) said I could cancel anytime as I was (possibly) planning on moving. Out of nowhere, I'm told I'm under obligation - if that were the case I wouldn't have signed up if there was honesty from the beginning.

  • HumanFairy

The gym is just fine but if you’re an elliptical lover, or you have bad knees but you need cardio, go to the DuPont location. Understandably, that location is newer and larger but to be honest, I don’t care about the bells and whistles, I like the ellipticals and I’m willing to go to the gym that has good ones. My suggestions is that this location remove the old ellipticals and replace with newer ones. I would give it a 5/5. I literally take 2 trains or walk 3 miles just to go to the DuPont location just so I can get on the ellipticals! The staff at both locations are nice.

  • Dana

This is my home gym when I'm in town for business. Overall the place is clean, and we'll maintained. I've been going there for about 6 months now and other then a couple of treadmills all the equipment is maintained is good working order. It can get a bit crowded during peak times, but thats to be expected.. especially on universal chest day. The staff that run the front end are always, friendly and professional, they really do a good job. From what I've seen the greet everyone and say goodbye when they leave. Really great customer service. Overall, great place to workout.

  • Onyinyechi A

This is my new gym as of 2 months ago and so far so good. The gym is actually much bigger than i expect when coming from the main street. There are plenty of elipticals, and treadmills. I wish there were more bikes and also the straps on 3 out of 6 bikes are broken so i wish they would fix that. Lastly i think the mens rooms needs some deodorizer and more frequent attention to keep as sanitary as possible. Besides that. the gym is good. Oh and make sure the paper town and spray sets are always filled so people will have the tools and incentive to clean equipment.

Mediocre Service - Beware of Thieves!: Imagine finishing your workout, going back to your locker, and finding your padlock broken and wallet missing. That’s exactly what happened to me at Capitol Hill Gold's Gym on 26 Dec 2021. Front Desk's response was "we are not liable for theft" and "you are the second person that reported this today"... not encouraged by the indifference of the team. Particularly frustrating as I am visiting; having to freeze your cards and get replacements when you are thousands of miles from home is PAINFUL... Word to the wise...stay away

  • Patrick Charles

All the fitness equipment I wanted to use--and I was told was in working order--prior to joining was not. Moreover, there is not enough locker room and space for everyone. People are constantly on top of each other. Lastly, the cleanliness of the showers was not up to par. The staff is really nice, but that doesn't justify paying the cost for this gym. I would rather pay more and get better amenities. Moreover, the gym gouges you for $100 for early cancellation. Other gyms have rmoved away from this outdated policy. I reccomend Golds follows suit.

  • William Herring

Gave the gym a try to see if I liked it. My first experience was less than expected. A lot of old equipment and the treadmill had brief stutters doing running (I tried more than one treadmill) I eventually gave up on the treadmill, I did not want to die. The environment was not very motivating and after about 15 minutes I had lost interest in working out, this has been the worst work out I have had at a gym . Now this may be good for some but to me, no way. They really need to upgrade this gym, it's on gold's website it's not privately owned.

  • David W. Zukowski

Steer clear of this company. Gold's is trying desperately to rebrand under intense competition and I decided to give them a shot with their flexible month-month no contract membership. But when I decided to cancel they proved to be the same old terrible Gold's with hidden cancellation fees masked as a 30-day processing lag. Spoke to someone at corporate about the hidden fees, but they couldn't care less. They just throw the agreement back in your face. They'll get their 30-day fee, but they lost any chance I'll be a customer again.

  • Joellen Jarrett

I requested to cancel my Golds membership, in writing, more than 6 months ago because I no longer commute into the city and have not used my membership in over a year. Not only has Golds refused to cancel my membership, members were also charged an extra fee at the end of 2020. This is beyond poor service. At $40/mos, Golds has raked in more than $500 of free money from me and God knows how many other poor people who have been on extended telework due to the pandemic.

  • Ben Harrison

Overall, a decent gym. Plenty of cardio machines, great locker room, good dumbbell area, decent amount of free weight equipment, although there's really only one platform to deadlift. However, they were like 10 minutes late opening up this morning which was sort of a problem because I was on a tight schedule. On top of that when he finally unlocked, there were two homeless guys in there hanging out and they had all their bags with them. Very weird vibe.

  • Patrick Johnston

Most gyms are hurting due to Coronavirus but the fact that they'll offer to freeze your account and then when you go to cancel try to bill you for three or four months dues is absurd. Especially since their terrible website is not displaying account information so you're supposed to take them at their word. They lead off by saying they'll send you to collections if they don't get their money. A predatory business at its finest.

  • Jason Munster

Clean gym with dumbbells up to 120 lbs. Notable useful equipment like a heavy bag and speed bag. The power lifting section gets crowded, the dumbbell section is in a different area and is less crowded. The circuit machines are in between. There is a sauna in the men's changing room, I'm assuming there's one in the women's as well. The staff is friendly. At $70/mo it's a great price for a gym that isn't overrun with people.

  • Sandy Carroll

Gold's Gym (Cap. Hill) in SW DC is an excellent gym for meeting your fitness goals. You have access to all of the equipment, classes and challenges in one membership fee, and the fitness instructors are focused on your progress and well-being. The gym is a clean, well-managed, friendly and pleasant place to work out. It is also next door to the Federal Center SW Metro Stop. I value my Gold's membership above all else.

  • Lia Reynolds

Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. I have worked with Sam and Ryan and both are happy to answer any question I have. My problem with the gym is the lack of ac! Why is it so hot? It has to be pushing 80 in here at 9am!!! The classes are great and the instructors are amazing but there should be more to best fit everyone's schedule. It sounds like this is more of a corporate problem verses employee problem.

  • Timothy Hulley

This is a great gym overall. It has a good amount of equipment and a motivating atmosphere, with a lot of folks who seem serious about working out. I find it to be superior to other, more expensive gyms in the area. I gave four stars instead of five because it can get crowded during peak times, and it can be a struggle to find street parking before 5:30 PM (when they start validating parking at the garage).

  • Timothy Smith

It's a normal gym; they could have a bit more of the equipment I like, but that'd mean less of equipment somebody else likes. If you think that paying ~$50 a month entitles you to obsequiousness from staff, or to never having to wait for/share equipment, you're going to be disappointed, but those are totally unrealistic expectations if you think for a second about real estate prices in DC.

  • Demonichellcat 707

Everybody should get their work on life short get your body before the summer I love the train is here Isle of the machines I am an athlete myself I love working out I recommend these guys got all kinds of deals you don't have to get any monthly contract excuse me a year contract you can do this come to Gold's Gym you will love your body I love this place I salute you Gold's Gym

  • xiomara sahle

I’ve been going here a week now.Staff is very friendly and people are there doing their exercise routine.Located side by side of the Federal Center metro.Once you get inside it’s the kind of place that you can focus on a vibrant workout.I love the AM time that suits my style. After a while I’ve gotten use to seeing the regular gym members.Positive vibes thus far.

  • John M

Good gym, good atmosphere. People of all levels of fitness are members at this gym, anyone will be at home here. Best of all: No nonsense stop member ship. When you want to stop (if you don't sign a contract) they don't try anything tricky. New remodeled bathrooms, sauna, showers, scale, heavy weights, lots of cardio, even two old school rowing machines.

  • Pablo Balcazar

The gym was well maintained and the staff was nice but leaving was a nightmare. The process for leaving is frustrating and once I did leave I got a letter from collections saying I hadn't paid for several months when I was told by staff that I was done. If you enlist and leave make sure you keep all the emails and are communicating.

  • marcus johnson

The staff is very friendly and helpful, from Sam to Iverson. But the new guy Jasper could use a lesson in how to deal with costumers. He's good at his job but is lacking in personal skills. Other than that the gym is a good place. It's kinda small, but big enough for a good workout. And equipment is being slowly updated.

  • Brendan T

Was straight up dishonest when I initially tried to get a membership. Manager contradicted the sign they had advertising the membership fee. I came back and signed up a few weeks later when they actually honored the deal but it was still such a waste of my time. Trying to cancel my membership later was a complete pain.

  • Jessica Crispin

I went to cancel my membership after the yearly membership, which is now considered month to month and will be charged for an additional month I won’t even use. I don’t understand this policy. If I want to cancel my MONTH to month membership after the yearly I shouldn’t have to pay for another month of membership.

  • Bryan Adams

I switched to Planet Fitness after three months at this terrible establishment and I could not be happier with PF. More amenities for 10$ a month. Golds Gym has an absolutely terrible culture and the people that workout there are obnoxious and rude. I felt very very uncomfortable going there.

  • Tom L

Didn't like Gold's Gym's business practices during Covid. They waited until after the billing cycle renewed to freeze memberships even though you were paying for a gym you couldn't use by law. Taking advantage of a national crisis to squeeze an extra penny out of its members. Not ok.

  • Suriya Jayanti

Good value for money, but nothing fancy. The equipment is rundown, and the place feels more like a private clubhouse for the trainers than a welcoming gym. But it's cheap and has everything you need. Darnell is easy to work with and wasn't pushing during the process of signing up.

  • Monique Coffey

On Tuesday my partner went in for the advertised free one day pass to check out the gym. He was then emailed a three day pass, after using the first day on Tuesday, he came back the same week Thursday to use the last day of the pass and was charged the drop-in rate. Not impressed

  • Samuel Lehn

Awesome gym - high quality equipment, nice staff, good amenities (towels, sauna, clean lockers and restrooms), free validated parking (for most hours of the day), and good vibes from fellow trainers. You get 90% of what Vida/Equinox offers for 25% the cost.

  • AJ Shah

It's a gym. A smaller gym. Weird policies, like you can use any of their Nationwide locations but you have to get approved and get a travel card and get approved before you can. Not that many weight machines or free weights but lots of dumbbells.

  • Josefa Gonzalez

I loved this gym during my time in DC. The equipment was always clean. Both attendants and the manager were all helpful individuals who cared about the members of the gym. If I ever move back to DC, I'll definitely come back to this Gold's Gym.

  • Pablo Benitez

I signed up for a three days free pass, which they advertised online. When I went there to try it, they just didn’t allow me. They wanted me to sign a year contract. They are not professional at all. Very bad experience. Don’t go there.

  • Bri Adams

I absolutely love going to Gold’s. I’ve been a member since November of 2021 and I have never been disappointed. The staff is incredibly sweet and helpful, the gym is always clean, and the members are kind and respectful. …

  • T.J. Wilson

The place is a freezer box literally. If you like to sweat when you work out Do Not Go To This Place! When I request that they raise the tempature, they told me that they had no control over the thermostat....

  • Nora Lamm

Smaller gym but clean and well maintained. They also have great classes during the week including Bodystep, one of the only step aerobics class in DC. Lots of fun and great cardio strength!

  • Colin Congo

Smaller, which means less equipment but a great place to train. I’ve never seen it super crowded. Staff is friendly, equipment is repaired when broken. Highly recommend!

  • Trey Sibert

This gym wasn’t great at communicating details on their membership plans. My friend also never got a payment for a referral. Very disappointed with the customer service.

  • Rayshon Person

Kool gym for the price. It's always clean and well attended. I wish there were more machines. During the rush from (5p-730p) it is more than likely you'll have to wait.

  • Jahtay Teh

It's a mediocre gym, but there isn't enough space for the number of people that regularly workout there and they need an upgrade. The staff is very kind though!

  • D J

For some reason this place doesn't honor the free pass/trial. Also, make sure you go during the only times they validate parking or you'll end up paying.

  • Pastor Brandon M. Spriggs

It's pretty clean and everyone wears mask and wipes down equipment. There's not enough equipment to go around, so following your plan is tough at times.

  • Philip Beere

Great gym and great staff. Parking is free from 6a - 5a and after 6p in the garage. Otherwise there is meter parking in the street for up to 2 hours.

  • Mark Stokes

I am always looking at group fitness rooms. This one was worn a bit. But Lisa taught a good class, and Jason greeted me well and showed me around.

  • Julie Wolf Kato

This gym has an abundance of equipment. It's in a convenient location and right off the Federal Center SW metro. It's also spotlessly clean.

  • Sergio Guerrero

This gym is pretty good, on my visit it was clean and with many options for machines and free weights to help you get your best workout.

  • Kenneth Young Jr

This gym satisfies a workout; equipment could use some updates, also it gives me a basement feel, and can get crowded during peak hours.

  • Arash Arabasadi

It's a decent Gold's. My home gym. Caters to federal employees, so plan your visit in slightly off-peak hours, or it's going to be busy.

  • Evan J. Hickey

Great gym with a great manager named Sam. It gets full at peak hours but the equipment is great and always clean. Staff very friendly.

  • Álvaro Morán

Gym with very good equipment and clean facilities. It would be perfect if only it had natural light and more afternoon classes.

  • Reginald McNair

My first day was consider awesome, staff member are gentlemen and a totally well equipped gym.. looking forward to more..

  • Heather Wolf

This is my home gym. I love it and I've been a member for over 3 years now. Very safe place to work out during covid.

  • Jesse Dockins

They wouldn’t honor the 1 week free pass because I didn’t live here. I’m here a lot for work but that didn’t matter.

  • Colin Strylowski

Small and crowded, the last straw was when all of their showers broke down for several days back in December.

  • Mike Turco

Solid gym for people trying to lift or do cardio. The people are great and equipment will get the job done.

  • Joshua Rogers

This place is clean, neat, well ordered, and has everything I want in a gym. One of the best gyms in DC.

  • Lovell Walls

Smaller than some others but...always has been the best combination of staff, atmosphere, and members.

  • Nailah Williams

Great place to work out and meet others. The Hatha YOGA Classes on Sunday and Tuesday ARE THE BEST!!!

  • Tanium T

The gym is too small for the number of members. I might come back if they open another in DC

  • Thomas Gray jr

I love the staff. They so interested n getting u where you want to be health & shape wise!!!

  • Tracy Addison

My happy plac I forgot how much I love it here everything I need to take care of my temple

  • Brendan Phillips

It's got what you need to lift or do cardio for a good price. No frills, not flashy.

  • Anthony Castle

I'm a member of golds gym now and it's an amazing place and the staff are wonderful

  • Pilajes

The facilities are great! However the staff is unfriendly and rude

  • Paul Ha

  • Yolonda Yates

Gold's Gym is great because it allow self directed fitness! …

  • Reginald McNair

The atmosphere is awesome and the equipment is first class.
