Londra ,Harrow on the hill .
St. Mary's is a remarkable place given that it's been going for almost a thousand years. We visited on one of the days when the church spire was open to visitors and I'm very glad that we made the effort (and helped with the ongoing fund-raising for restoring the spire). If you plan to do the same then you'll need a head for heights and a desire to climb wooden stairs in confined spaces. The reward is that you get to see the church bells up close before emerging onto a narrow walkway at the top of the tower. From here the views in all directions are utterly magnificent which speaks to the lofty location of the building. In addition we were able to (carefully) walk on the leaded roof of the nave which was an equally magical experience. Harrow School is very literally at your feet and you can feel a palpable sense of history from the vista. Internally the church is equally delightful with many plaques and artefacts dating from the lengthy history of this place of worship. It's one of those places that forces you to take a breath and appreciate the span of time. It's well worth a visit and if you can help the church meet the hefty cost of re-leading their beautiful (but weighty) spire then so much the better.
St Mary's church, more than 10 centuries old church on Harrow on the Hill overlooking almost 360 degrees of greater London. A pilgrimage place for Christians in olden days. Also a memorial to Lord Byron, a great Philhellene who gave his life for the freedom of Greece and died in Messologi town in Greece where he was originally buried. More than a century after his death the British government repatriated his remains to England .(Byron had wanted to be laid to rest in this lovely churchyard of St Mary's, near Harrow School where he'd been a pupil, but these wishes were not carried out). Must say in his grave in Messologi in Greece is written Lord Byron born and died in Greece that was his wish as he fell so much love with Greece. As we say in Greece Love always wins.
Prominent on the highest point in Middlesex this historically significant Gade I Listed church is much restored, surrounded by a wood and a melancholic overgrown cemetery abutting 'Harrow on the Hill School.' Evocative and picturesque with sweeping views westward. Unfortunately Byron's ..." Spot of my youth !.." is currently dispiriting and enervating with broken railings, the prospect impaired by an overgrown hedge. Disappointing, needs be addressed.
This Church is Beautifully Situated, with Stunning, and Spectacular views into the Heart of London... and its Part of the Experience of Walking through the Harrow School Area,on the Hill...Quite often the Pupils are changing Tutorials and are Walking between the Annexes, In their Straw Boaters ..its a really Great part of Harrows Heritage..... Spring is an Especially lovely time of year to See it.... Please Enjoy
Great place of sanctuary, peace and tranquility, as well as an adjoining Spires Cafe run by the parishioners that sells exceedingly tasty Orange cake - beats Mr Kiplings by a marathon . A nice alternative to the high street cafe - just great for the family. Worth a stroll afterwards around the historic Hill with its grand old architecture, much of it linked to the famous Harrow School.
The cemetery here is an incredible place to visit, I wonder about the stories behind some of the people here, and why it was built so high. There is even a vantage point facing south that on a fine day allows you to see all the way to Henley and various places south of the Thames. I was rushed to take a photo, it really does not do the view any justice.
St Mary's Church has been ministering to the community of Harrow for over 900 years. The Chapel is open daily as a special space for people of all faiths and none to use for prayer and meditation. Follow signs from the main door. This year marks 925 years since this building was consecrated by St Anselm, Archbishop of Canterbury.
The church is always open. Very peaceful and quiet. You could go in for a moment of solitude regardless of your faith. There is a section where you could make a donation whether in cash, card or even donate books. There are benches in the garden where you could sit and enjoy the fresh breeze and greenery around.
Its worth visiting this annual fête. Meet the local people while enjoying a climb up to the bell tower, bell-ringing, refreshments, mulled wine, food, books, see incredible views from the steeple parapet, coffee & tea, food, artwork, plants, and much more.
A history going back a millennium with views to match. The grounds are well maintained with a small area set aside to go wild to encourage bees, butterflies and other insects. A visit is well paid back for peace, quiet and views.
This Church is Beautifully Situated near Harrow School area, I went to inside the church. Architecturally design and work was done amazingly on that time. it is very beautiful and calm place
Beautiful, ancient church with a Cafe that opens on Saturdays. The spire is in danger, please help. Quiet and peaceful, and amazing views nice views of London surrounding the church.
Ok the church is just usual I'd say. The whole surrounded area though is magneficent. Harrow on the hill along with its school is a must stroll at the outskirts of the capital
It's a wonderful place, the best, going up throw cementery untill the top, come in the church and goin down untill the library, then you can see every London from here.
One of the oldest Chruch in uk built in 13th century. It’s on the highest point in Harrow, you can see whole of Harrow from here beautiful sunrise and Wembley stadium.

I seldom visit here... to meditate and reflect... the 'energy' in this church is beautifully empowering... uplifting ... Id also say ... immensely healing :)
Historic church, can be seen from most parts of Harrow. Peaceful area good for walks, fresh air and clearing the mind. Great views of surrounding areas.
Beautiful spot. Perfect place for quiet contemplation. Atmosphere is positively charged and one is aware of the history as soon as one steps inside.
Idyllic, worth a visit if you have some time. If you don't mind ancient cemeteries, this place is perfect as a quiet spot for contemplation.
925 years old, beautiful, historic and now open 11-3 every day for quiet prayer and contemplation. The perfect antidote to covid anxiety.
