Spec"s location in San Antonio @ De Zavala, located in the strip center at the corner of De Zavala Road and Vance Jackson Road will always get a good rating from me....they employ a frindly and helpful staff. However, good is not great and frankly anyone can train their staff to 'act' friendly and helpful, based on the old 'the customer is always right' motto. The problem though as anyone who has worked in a service industry job will tell you, these days the entitled behavior rampant in our society makes that old motto hard to swallow. Spec's is different from other retailers, they have figured out how to have their staff engaged and truly interested in the customer and it shows. They get a great (5 ⭐ star) rating from me for customer service because the staff is knowledgeable, they really know their inventory and they know the differences between whiskeys, can describe the different flavor notes and distilling processes. Frankly, the same goes for any scotch, vodka or tequila they sell. They will also help you find the perfect wine for a hostess gift or to go with that special meal. I have found Spec's inventory to be vast and if they don't have what I am looking for at my location, it can usually be found at another local Spec's and brought over the next day or two. Outstanding experience!

Have you ever been the one tasked with bringing wine to a dinner party, even though you don’t know jack about wine? Well if you have (or if you ever are), this is the place for you. I was told to bring a “moscato,” but when I arrived at Spec’s, I realized there were half a dozen types of it. d’Asti, pink, black, dessert, bubbly, etc. I was like WTH do I do? Fortunately, Spec’s has plenty of wine experts on staff and they bailed me out. Then, my next question was “should it be served chilled or at room temp?” They said “it depends.” I decided on chilled, and they directed me to this barrel full of water that magically chills the bottle in seven minutes. It’s pure witchcraft folks, but it’s free, so check it out. I’m still in total awe of this magical barrel full of water. Why four stars instead of five? Because they charge a penalty for using credit cards. They try to convince you that it's a "discount" if you pay with cash, debit, or check, but I see it more as a penalty. They also have a really good deli with lots of lunch items in the back of the store. Decent prices and not bad food for lunch.

I like this store, they have everything you need. My Husband has tried the deli and said his sandwich was really good and I picked out some cheeses to take to a get together, also I found sauces and salsa that my Mother had been looking for that she had had in Fredericksburg Texas and in the back corner of the store I found some frozen mixes I had been on the look out for. I have not tried the coffee but they have bins in the back with whole beans and last time I was in they were bringing in more imported foods so I will have to check that out soon. They always help me find what I'm looking for, I had tried a vodka at a friends house and by me describing the label and knowing it was from Poland, they were able to look it up on the computer and figure it out and they did have it in stock. Next time I go in I will be looking for Port and some Sparkletini for Thanksgiving and I am sure they will be able to help me pick out some beer as well, and maybe some Tuaca and wine so I have a good assortment for my Brothers party.

Not my favorite location, I think the layout of the store is kind of confusing cuz you walk into what almost feels like a bullpen you have to go around certain aisles to get access to the actual aisles that literally run the entire length of the store. There needs to be a break somewhere in the middle because I hate having to walk completely to the back end of the store to get around a certain section. Tons of cashiers in the front which is great, but then everyone else and any other part of the store is elusive, on the phone pretending to be having a work-related conversation, or texting with someone. No one's actually paying attention to anything unless they're dealing with customers at the front of the store. I didn't hear a single mention about a promotion or sale that was going on, no last minute upselling, people going through the motions.

DO NOT ORDER CURBSIDE! A few weeks ago I ordered several different IPAs to try. When the order filled they didn't carry all of the ones selected. I was fine with this. When I reviewed my order when I got home I noticed I was short a beer and still charged for it. OK... This could happen. I called the store and they said they would issue the credit and apologized. A week later no credit. I waited a couple more days and called again. This time I spoke with someone, TJ, who said he would call corporate Still no credit 10 days later. I'm done. It's not about the money, it's the lies and inability to accommodate when you say you will. Buyer beware.... Check your stuff before you leave the store if you are so bold as to try anyway. Good luck.

Great service. Find everything you want to drink. Taste other things to buy you didn't know you wanted. Hit the Munchies isle for some new ideas as well as old standards. Enjoy the cold WALL O BEER. And DO NOT leave without a bourbon pecan pie. Yes bourbon. Yes pecan pie. UPDATE- Went on a hunt for Modelo Chelida Mango Chili. My friend turned me on to it one day while I was visiting. They earned like 100 extra friend points. Beer. Chilada. And flavored with mango and chili. Really? Suggest twang or chamoy on the rim. Make sure its ice cold. Bring on summer! Also try the Dots pretzels, original flavor. Its like little sticks of butter. Staff was really great, as always

Great selection of literally everything. Only small complaint is the inclusion of different cash/credit prices. I personally think this is kinda annoying whenever I see this. I can assume it's due to the card companies charging the business for the use of cards but I still think in 2020 it shouldn't feel like a punishment for not using an arguably inferior payment method. Also the card companies charge relatively small percentages to the business but some of the cash prices were $5+ cheaper. Seems odd to me but it might be something I am not taking into consideration.‍♂️

This location is a joke! Terrible customer service and they don't even know what they have in stock! I asked for some Branson Cognac, this location is one of the who carries it, the cashier had no idea what if was, called a "specialist" to come help me, the so called specialist instead goes to help a lady in that next aisle over, completely passing me up. To make matters worst, once he finishes with her he not only skips me again but gets on his phone to make a personal call, i know this by the way he was talking to them. Very poor customer service, never coming here again!

Perhaps the best variety of beer among Spec's locations in the San Antonio area. If you like craft beer, they're going to have several good options for you. The store looked as though it had been reorganized since the last time I'd visited, but overall impression of the layout was good. Signs asking customers to please wear masks were prominently displayed, but no efforts were made to enforce that, unfortunately. I'm not going to change my rating on account of other customers' behavior though. Will absolutely be returning to check some of the other sections of the store.

Today I was shopping at this store and I overhead the manager,I belive his name was Jase,he was extremely rude with the tasters that were trying to decide for a product. This guy shouldn't be working in customer service..his manners were unprofessional and he made alot of people very uncomfortable and some of them left right after his comments and the way he was treating the people that were at the tables doing their best to please the customers and to keep the manager from harrasing the people that were there to taste the product they were promoting.

This location is great. The store has anything and everything you could possibly need when it comes to liquor, mixers, wine, etc. The selection beats any other store I have been to in San Antonio. They even have a deli area with meats and cheese as well as sandwiches and other items and party platters. This store is amazing and best of all the prices are amazing as well. Everyone staff wise here is great, friendly, and very helpful in locating items, answering questions about products, and making sure you have a great experience. Way to go Spec's!

The store is very clean and well organized. The staff is very informative and helpful. This is my favorite liquor store due to the fact that they not only have a great selection of liquor but they also have great Delicacies. They have great choices of meats and cheeses as well as caviar. I always pick up something nice to eat along with a special bottle of tequila. I also love the fact that they sell single beers in case you don't want to buy the whole six-pack to give you the opportunity to try different craft beers.

I come here mainly because it's close to my house, but I have been to a few other Spec's locations and this one is pretty nice by comparison. The store is always pretty clean and well stocked with a very wide selection in all price ranges. Compared to other chains in my area I think the prices are competitive. Then there is the selection of gourmet foods and other beverage related accessories that makes the store a more desirable stop for me. The associates are always friendly and helpful. I recommend.

Staff was friendly but couldn’t find my product. The cashier, Shiva, must’ve been having a bad day. She was unfriendly and unprofessional. Extremely rude and hmm unintelligent also fits the bill. I tried to punch in my phone number because I didn’t have my Spec’s card on me — she saw what I was doing and cut me off and insisted my phone number wasn’t in the system and then offered to punch it in on her end. Thanks for ruining my Spec’s experience, Shiva. Hope your day gets better.

I just recently visited this store and it is beyond amazing! They have a huge selection of wines, beers, spirits, coffee, cigars and food items. In the back there is also a deli you can order food from (which all looked amazing). But the cherry on top is the staff who are trained and certified about their selection. It was fascinating to hear about the maker, where they are from, what they do and all of the neat details. If this is your thing, you should definitely swing by!

Spec's never disappoints their clientele with quality of service and product knowledge. Miranda, Amanda, Nicholas, Richard, Chris, Eddie , Jason and others work cohesively as a team. They remember customers' names and always promote the Spec's brand. Professionalism and positive attitudes are exhibited consistently when entering and departing this store. We went to Specs today looking for some new Whiskeys and Bourbons and we were so LUCKY to have found Alberto to help us. He not only knows his profiles and brands he was able to ask what we already liked to determine what he thought we might also like. I live literally just a short walk from here but that's not important...I've never had a complaint or any bad with the employees or selection. These fine people here know a thing or two and are über helpful and are happy to share a joke or two (in my encounters). I would recommend this store whole heatedly. Bottles in pic are some of the "samples" tested thoroughly in "my liver labs" (lol) these are good. You should try!

This place is always clean, well stocked, and employees are always available with good beer suggestions. Beer selection is huge. Especially craft beer, or beer you never knew existed. There is a deli section in the back of the store. Even though u haven't had one of their subs, I've passed by it couple times, and everything looks really good. And the parking lot is big. That means it's easy come easy go.

What a great place to do my shopping. I have an social event planned and figure I would stop in for something special to drink. I have to say the selection was great. The sales person "Richard" was very helpful. He was able to help me find what I was looking for. His knowledge is great and willing share it. I very happy with my purchase today. Really great selection. Wine is organized so strangely though. Kinda like how Total Wine just does it alphabetically. Here you gotta check the country and then search. Employee help is really hit or miss. I've gotten great ones and really lazy ones that dont even bother helping. Military and cash discounts are a plus. Miss the sandwich area.

Spec's has a great selection of everything and I truly enjoy looking around and hearing about new things but I had a bonus at this visit. A very personable young man that was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. So, I'm trying a new tequila and a sweet and sour mix he said would make the best margaritas.

Very little service and staff did not look happy. Couldn't even succeed in getting the cashier to smile. Guess there were no Christmas bonuses this year. It showed. They also didn't have what i wanted. Asked the guy if they had Vin Santo and he said "is that an Italian thing?" Won't go there again.

Such a vast selection of beers, wines, and liquor. You can spend an hour here just looking at the selection. You can also get some great help fr pool m the staff, they are extremely knowledgeable and the prices are good especially if you use your debit card. You get a discount for using cash.

I got kicked out for having a loungefly purse. The security guy said I could leave it with the cashier or get out… I’m not leaving my personal belongings with strangers. I didn’t make a big fuss like a Karen I just said “ok” and walked out. Unbelievable. My purse is smaller than 12 inches….

As you might expect, this Spec's has a wide selection of craft beer, wine, liquor, and select gourmet food. What you might not know is that the people who work here are phenomenal. They are almost always available to assist you, and their knowledge is as limitless as the store's products.

if i could give this a 0 star i would, the girl at the cash register with ombre hair was so disrespectful and disgusting with me, she claimed to own the place and refused to sell us our product because of our race. Not only are you never to see me at one of your stores again, im SUING!!!

Amazing place for any and all adult party supplies you need. They have the largest selection of beer I have ever seen anywhere. They have a descent wine selection. The food section is hands down amazing. The staff are excellent and extremely helpful in locating or ordering special stuff

I shop here probably more than I should! I have my usual drink and can get in and out quickly. However, when I'm looking for something different, an employee always asks if they can help me. If they are not a subject expert, they find the employee who is. I highly recommend this store.

Roger was rude. He spoke very harsh when he was ringing up my items at the register. As I was leaving his attitude completely changed and he gave the next customer in line great customer service. I'm not sure who trained this man but he definitely needs another lesson on manners.

Specs is always a great time. They have a great selection of alcohol from domestic beer to the craftiest of crafts and imports to liquor of any shelf quality. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because they do not have Tortuga rum. I can't find that anywhere.

This is one of the larger Spec's I've been to. The selection of wines and spirits is excellent, and the culinary tidbits available are many and varied. Run selection is positively heroic. Staff are also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Full marks obj this location.

They are always happy to provide you the best customer service, they are Nazi’s when it comes to being of age, so don’t try to pull a fast on them or bend their rules. They will always try to make good recommendations, and their tastings are a good benchmark.

Huge selection, friendly people, good prices. They had several whiskeys that I had not been able to find, and a they have a really large number of beer brands. The free samples are a nice touch too, giving you a chance to try stuff that you'd otherwise skip.

An awesome place to get alcohol. The staff was fairly friendly and helpful to their extent, but this is likely the largest liquor store I’ve ever visited. The selection of beer could be a bit better based on their size, but overall a great place!

What can I say, such knowledgeable staff. Alberto (I believe that's his name) who is over the whiskey and bourbons was so knowledgeable, we were extremely impressed. We made other purchases as well and he knew exactly where each item was located.

Specs De Zavals has very nice employees that are willing to help. Plenty of products too. Did a tasting with Fresca Grapefruit Paloma & Fresca Vodka Spritz. Both were very tasty. Employees are very helpful at this atore!

Bought an expensive bottle of Scotch that had an intolerable sulfur taste (probably from whatever wine cask it was aged in). They exchange corked wine, but not s*** spirits. Big meh in the customer service department...

Like most Spec's, this is a large clean store with a great selection. The staff is great and always willing to give a suggestion if you are wondering what to get. The deli is back also serves up some tasty sandwiches.

I love all their stores. The best part of it, are the free samples they offer on the weekends. Its marketing that works on me. When I go in I have a plan, by the time I leave, ive got more plans and spend more money.

Spec's has everything! After searching high & low for OL SMOKEY'S Peanut butter Whiskey. I went to the last place that I SHOULD have gone to FIRST! From now on. It's the only place to shop for great brands.

The middle-high grade Caribbean rum selection has been lacking lately Might be due to the pandemic problems. No shortage of very premium runs though. Selection is still unmatched by any competition in SA.

Specs are always awesome, but this one is my go-to! Mathew the assistant manager is so helpful! He knows his liquors thoroughly and helps to guide novices towards products they'll love.
