We'll be back! Dr. Abbott, Dana, Debbie, and another worker (whose name I did not catch) were all superior in the level of care they provided for my precious dog's ear infection. From the moment I first called to squeeze in an emergency visit to when they called me back to check on us (WHAT?! ) - they took excellent care of us both. We DID have to wait quite a long time to be seen when we came in for our appointment. However, both Dana and Dr. Abbott profusely apologized for the wait and promised that it had been an abnormally crazy day from hell at the clinic. I wasn't really buying it to be honest - I was kinda peeved, actually. Just because my dog was starting to get anxious. BUT - when Dr. Abbott finally entered the room and dropped right to the ground to meet my dog on her level, I could tell right away what kind of person she was and that she was going to take excellent care of my dog. That's exactly what happened. We got my dog diagnosed and treated right away. They even got her caught up on two overdue vaccines and the total bill was STILL significantly less than the last vet visit (at another clinic). My dog immediately started to improve. Her head shaking reduced right away and four days later it has completely ceased. I never felt like the clinic tried to push add-on costs to my bill or attempted to just get me to come back for multiple return visits for the same issue like other clinics do to milk your wallet. Dr. Abbott gave me the simplest, most effective treatment she had available and I really appreciate that. I will also mention that once we were being seen that I never felt like she was rushing me to get me back out the door. She gave me all the time and attention that I wanted with her. Y'all are great and have earned my return business without a doubt. Thank you for your sincere concern for my fur baby! Even if I have to wait a while to be seen next time - I know that you'll take care of us and that is more important than anything.
My new veterinarian. Both the vet Hopkins and assistants were gentle, positive, friendly, observant, and slow with my puppy. They didn't rush through the appointment. They took the time to get to know my dog. I felt like Dr. Hopkins was thorough in checking my dog before deciding how to proceed. They didn't push treatment but explained what they thought the problem was and what was needed. Made treatment plan w me. Veterinarian Hopkins followed up w me by phone call. Clean, liked waiting area, ontime w my appointment, friendly staff. No cancellation fee for cancelled appointments (even same day - my experience: 30 minutes till appt.) Open and easy to talk to about cost of treatments. I felt heard, understood and most importantly for a veterinarian clinic, I felt like my puppy was understood and her reactions paid attention to. If in Albuquerque I recommend this vet, especially over the VCA's in abq.
We used to absolutely adore this place. We drive from Rio Rancho just for our babies to be seen by them. Sadly, their service has been on the decline. They are okay when it comes to adult dogs, but lack proper training for handling puppies. They greet puppies with extreme energy and then try to choke hold them still for a shot. On our second visit, They couldn't get my screaming puppy to hold still (probably traumatized from the first visit) enough to check her paws for a scab we saw so they just gave up and gave us advice for how to treat it on our own. (And then charged me $25) I asked to go back with them to show them where it is, they dismissed me. I felt small. Wish I would have made a scene honestly. Update: I tried contacting the office manager and owner, left a message and have not heard back.
They seem to feel, when unemployment is at its highest, $20 is something anyone can afford and a laughable amount of money. They mocked and shamed me on my google review and then deleted it out of regret maybe(?). Yet they do not have it within themselves to offer an apology. The receptionist did not inform me of added fees at the time of booking my appointment. And management would not discuss the surprise expenses with me at the time. Below is their response to their price gouging tactics, I am not the only one they are extorting (read their other google page, they have two, I wonder why) and you will be next if you decide to use this company to treat your beloved pets. "there is an extra fee associated with this. It is very small and you are arguing about a fee that is less than $20."
With 15 years previous experience working several positions in veterinary clinics, I am really impressed with this clinic. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Even during a short staffed pandemic, they are kind and help to determine what is urgent versus routine. My dogs are quite comfortable, especially with Bridget. It is like she has been part of their whole lives and part of our “extended family”! Seeing my dogs reactions to staff tells me all I need to know about how my dogs perceive thier treatment. The facility is clean and my veterinary bills are reasonable. I love that staff and doctors call or email me to check in following non-routine visits. I remain loyal to this and thier sister clinic, Southwest Veterinary Medical Center.
We took my baby ,Samuel(Sam) to Rio Bravo Veterinary Hospital. He was treated by Rachel Barnes D.V.M. and nurse Jeannie (I think that was her name) . Sam had a ingrown paw nail. One of my concerns was I didn't want him to be in pain. I thought they would have to sedate him but they didnt, Sam trusted them both. Dr Barnes even checked Sam and found a possible diagnosis and explained to me what the treatment would entail with a price estimate. Because this was a emergency appointment I was worried about the prices luckily, the price was in my budget. This veterinarian Hospital is hands down the best I have ever been to. We found Sam a new veterinarian. DR. BARNES and JEANIE, thank you for taking such good care of our Sam.
Unethical . all they care about is making money and not saving yours animals life. They are willing to risk an animal life to make a sale... They will assure you that your pets life is safe even though you can remind them of prior complications and they will still convince you to put them under anesthesia. And kill them!! I hope they learned a lesson for killing my dog and won't ever risk putting an animal under anesthesia while the dog has over30 respirations a minute and suffering with fluid in their lungs and to assure the owner their life is in good hands. THANKS ALOT . Thanks for the ethical treatment .. I dropped off my dog alive and picked her up in a card board box..
I have been a client for about ten years at both hospitals, for my dogs, cats, and guinea pigs. Until about a year ago I was completely satisfied with the doctors and staff at RGAH. Then on three occasions I had need to leave messages with staff about my dog who was diagnosed with cancer. On two occasions I did not hear back from anyone for over four days, and I had to call again. Then one week as of today I called again about my dog and as of today no one has called me back. I had to put my dog to sleep at an ER a couple days ago. I had always had an excellent experience at both hospitals, but now the lack of response has left me to change where my animals get care.
I am So disappointed, you examed by dog w, kidney disease and referred her to vca hospital, she was there for 48 hrs. They said that most dogs don’t like Dr. Hills prescription food and if she won’t eat it my vet who made the referral will write a diff. Prescription. I told you she is not eating it. Your reply to me was she has to have a new exam. It hasn’t been a week yet since you last examined her. I felt like you all just don’t care and have no loyalty for long time clients. I have been a client even before the new owners took over. The receptionist was very polite and simpathic, I appreciated that.
When I started going to this clinic a year ago I was really impressed with the quality of service and attention to my furry family members. Sadly they have hired a new vet Dr. Hanks who lacks bed side manor with pets and humans alike. At a recent visit he ordered some expensive tests that where not necessary without having an actual conversation with me. It also seemed that he was not willing to take the time to let my pup warm up to him and was missing very basic behavioral cues that anyone who works with dogs should pick up in. Sadly I am on the hunt for a new vet.
I would never take my furbabies anywhere else. Staff is very friendly, helpful, caring and professional. My 95 lb big baby got a a foxtail in his paw which caused a infection. They got me in the next day. Him being hurt, not knowing them (stranger danger) and scared he through a fit. They just starting letting people back in the clinic but were trying not to if they didn't have to. With my big baby acting like he doesn't have any training they let us in. Reasonable prices. Especially for the care that you get at Rio Grande Animal Hospital. Highly recommend.
We used Rio Grande Animal Hospital for our pet until recently because they were close to our house, but the vet misdiagnosed a problem, which we gave them over a $100 for. When the misdiagnosis became clear, they said they would charge for us to come back and be seen again. Would you expect your plumber to charge you a second time to fix his own mistake? In my opinion professionals own up to their mistakes, because everyone makes them, but not everyone admits to them. Great businesses deserve recognition. And so should bad ones.
Unfortunatly we felt like "suspects" with our particular breed. Before we were led to the back we were questioned where we "got the dog, since there are no local breeders for this breed." Worst feeling is when you try your very best within your means to fulfill every expectation for your pet, and you leave feeling like you're somehow not living up to "their" expectations . The breed gets stereotyped as it is. Owners get stereotyped here as thieves since is hard to get a puppy of this breed.
Had a pre dental checkup, to get my dogs teeth cleaned 5 months ago, they told me after I paid for the pre dental appointment, that they didn't have any openings until January. Since I had already paid and I would just have to pay somewhere else for the same pre dental, I took the date. Now 5 months later I'm being told it's going to be another 3 months before they can see my dog and her teeth are just getting worse. Too short staffed to be open. Unethical practice.
I have been a client for many years at Rio Grande Animal Hospital. The quality of care was always superb. However, due to our most recent visit with Dr. Hanks, it will be our last. The level of care, concern, and professionalism was not what we’ve come to expect based off of all of our previous visits. The staff has always been wonderful, so I truly hope this was an anomaly and not a trend. I will no longer be recommending RGAH because of our visit with Dr. Hanks.
Good doctors, but it’s a business more than a family clinic. They push sales and sometimes it’s hard to know what my pet actually needs and there are new docs all the time. So don’t get to attached to the vet you like. The being said, they are reasonably priced and have an excellent surgery record for our dogs and cats. I enjoy the time money spent here has given me with my animals. I only with it felt more like a family clinic than a business that pushes sales.
For the past couple of days my dog was out of character and I began to panic. I had gone to two different ERs where I was ultimately turned away. I found Rio Grande Animal Hospital and took a leap of faith. Trish came out and eased my nerves and took my hound on right away with no questions asked. My mother and i sat there for about an hour and they were completely transparent and I can't be more thankful for this fantastic Animal Hospital!
I am so grateful for RGAH. I have a primary vet for my dogs, however, one of our dogs injured herself and was not whimpering, but screeching in pain! I called so many places only to be told they had no openings, RGAH got her in to be seen same day! They were so kind and helpful. I was also shocked at how inexpensive the same day visit was with three prescription meds. Thank you for taking such good care of my dog, I am so thankful!
We love this clinic! The staff is very responsive, professional, and has always gone above & beyond to give my dogs what they need. They consistently provide reminders, check ins, and follow up calls after procedures. The doctors thoroughly answer my questions and concerns. Most importantly, my dogs are always excited to go inside and greet all of the staff! There is an excellent quality of care here. I highly recommend!
I made an appointment for my mom a week in advance told her to take all her paperwork and when it was time they that she didn't have an appointment my mom has disabled she has a hard time getting around plus she had a deadline for her apartment complex to give to the landlord the rabies shots to them very unprofessional very rude to me my wife and my mother. This seriously needs some training
I recommend this place for anyone that need good service , respectful , clean friendly place and I'm so happy the workers were very patient and friendly to my cat they're straight up they'll let you know about your pets health and they'll find solutions I can't wait to go back and get my other cat for a check up and I'm letting my friends know about this place !!!
We were admitted, kept waiting for an hour and a half and then told to come back Monday. The nurse was very helpful with advice but the receptionist didn't give a darn and we never saw a vet. The receptionist came and finally said if the vet came in we would be charged for a full exam and she wouldn't be able to treat him only send him somewhere else. It was noon.
This is our choice for all our four legged companions. Other places we have used proved, on occasion, to see if they couldn't maximize their bills. Here that never happened and our pets were well and respectfully cared for. And OK, I confess to having a favorite in Dr. Holly. She not only knows her business, but has the compassion needed to do and say the best.
Dr. Holly and the staff at Rio Grande were extremely kind and considerate of my elderly K9 companion. They were gentle with her to the end. We actually had to go to emergency VESC-NM for her final transition. Even so RGAH sent a beautiful card of condolences to me, which meant a lot. I highly recommend Dr. Holly, the kind techs and Deb at the desk.
This veterinarian is the best, they save my dog Polar who was sick with an infection of some sort. They gave him fluids and antibiotics intravenously and now he is looking and feeling better. I almost lost him, but thanks to this vet’s expertise he was saved from death. Thank Rio Grande Animal Hospital for all you did for me and Polar. We love you!
I finally found a vet office that I LOVE. Staff here is all attentive, knowledgeable, and they obviously have a passion for pets! They have been able to schedule us without delay even same day when necessary. They've always been on time and prices are very reasonable. I've been to vets all over town and this one stands far above the others.
Our sweet cat got sick and died a couple weeks ago and I hadn't cried so much in 25 years! The entire staff at Rio Grande Animal Hospital wrote loving words in a card that I received in the mail last week and thus I cried again. I really appreciate their authentic kindness and support during this time and over the past 7 years.
We sadly had to put one of our dogs to sleep today. It was incredibly sad to say goodbye. The staff at the hospital is very compassionate and skilled. Our pup was comfortable at the end and we are grateful for that. They seemed to actually care about our grief as well as our dog and not just just trying to make money.
If you plan on taking your dog overseas, this is the best Vet office in ABQ. They were fantastic at helping you understand all the paperwork and even the Dept. of Agriculture was impressed at how Dr. Hopkins and staff filled out the necessary forms. Wolfman is ready for Spain and will now be known as Wolfito!
I just walked in with my baby because her eyes were swollen and she was acting strange. They still saw us without an appointment. Dr. Saga (sorry if I spelled her name wrong) was amazing! She was calm and patient. Most importantly she was friendly. This will be my go-to vet from now on.
We followed Dr. Hopkins to Rio Grande Animal Clinic for a reason; you will NEVER find a Vet that cares about your babies more than he does! He's loving, nurturing and caring; hands down, more than the other Vets we've had. The staff cares just as much! Thanks to all at the clinic!!
I recently got my puppy vaccinated through the rio grande veterinarian clinic && the staff is so nice !! We also have a dog we had to take in recently because he had irritation in his eye && they were super nice and empathetic they really care about what they do at this clinic !!
I had to euthanize my dog of 16 years, and I was naturally nervous about the process and how it would be for him. They were made it very special, even brought some treats in for him. Thank you for listening to me reminisce and being sweet to me and my dog.
My Cat NEEDS To be Treated for Earmites . They turned us away there was a so called balance due They want $70 up front Before they can see my Baby I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO . Someone Made a Mistake and my baby Snow has to Suffer for They're Mix-up
LOVE LOVE LOVE these guys!!! So patient and knowledgeable- diagnosed my senior cat when 3 other vets couldn’t. Fantastic with my undersocialized kitten as well. The vets there are so friendly and they have never rushed my visit- even when busy!
I love they call and check on your pet when they are injured and recovering or on medications. Nice to know they care about their clients and they spend a lot of time with you answering questions if needed during your visit or on the phone.
Male vet kept twisting my dogs left and telling me it's not supposed to turn that way. After he told me that he kept twisting the way it wasn't supposed to turn that way...kept injuring it. I didnt appreciate that. Found another vet
Phone rang for hours. My dog died at 9pm on a Friday. No place is open on Saturday expect this one, but no answer even after 30 tries. What is one supposed to do in this situation? When this service claims to help.
Quick friendly service. Very good with skittish pets. Separate dog and small animal/cat waiting area which was nice for our scaredy cat. The doctor took his time with us and our cats and we felt well cared for.
We've been taking our pets to the Rio Grande Animal Hospital for their regular shots, exams and veterinary needs for 11 years. Friendly staff. Clean office. And they are always helpful if you call for advice.
I have been bringing my canine children here for just about 2 years. I am very happy with the way I and the doggies are treated. Their prices are affordable the staff is friendly and professional! Thank-you
I was a vet tech for several years. I came here with my 16 year old Jack Russell today. The Dr and staff were very friendly and compationate with my dog. I will be going back …
Always charge a work in fee regardless of appt being scheduled. They are trained to charge as many fees as possible. They were not really helpful in finding a resolution for my dog ailments.
Very satisfied, tender care, I highly recommend. I just found the practice after visiting an affiliate practice, Road RoadRunner Veterinay Clinic up in Bernalillo. Very professional.
This hospital reeked of animal urine. The staff was dirty. They didn't even dress my dogs wound. I brought her home and dressed it myself. This place was gross
My little puppy Winston was very sick. Treatment was started and with a couple visits he is running and playing. A true blessing. The staff was wonderful.
Scheduling, waiting to see provider at appointment is usually minimal, and follow up calls re visits are excellent. Facility is clean. Caring staff.
Doctor made rude comments from the minute she walked in the room and wasn’t very attentive with my dog I’m never going back there again!!!
i really love Rio Grande Animal Hospital everybody there is very friendly and i really like going there Shakira my dog loves everybody
