The stunning waterfall that curves like a "Curtain" is called "Rideau" in French. Consequently, the river is also named Rideau after the waterfall. As a result, many locations in Ottawa are named "Rideau" in honor of this natural wonder. This park is the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll while taking in the breathtaking sunset over the Ottawa River. You can also be entertained by the ducks who patiently walk along the falls' edge in search of food. Overall, I highly recommend this park as it is truly a beautiful and mesmerizing place to visit.
New Edinburgh is probably my favourite area of Ottawa. Yes it’s expensive but I love it anyway. The area is very scenic which includes the nice Sussex Drive. The Rideau Falls is a pleasant spot to view the river scenes. Hey n a nice summer day it’s great!! I’m not sure about the Tavern that opened up there recently. In order to view the falls from that deck you need to enter this restaurant. Maybe they allow you to go even if you don’t plan to sit and order anything. I’m not sure. In any case it’s a nice place to go. ☺️
Rideau Falls is an nice place to visit. There is a walkway over the falls and I suggest you enjoy feeling the mist while taking the walk over the bridge and hear the water flowing into the Ottawa river. You may also have a beautiful view and see people below the falls in their canoes and kayaks. You can also get a good view of Gatineau Quebec's shoreline on the otherside of the water. If you like my review please give it a thumbs up. That way I can tell if others like my comments
A very beautiful place to visit on the weekend right in the downtown! The voice of the falls is magical. You can even do boating here. Right across the river in the site of Gatinue city. The tavern on the falls is also a good place to hangout in front of the falls. The ancient history is carved here which gives the glimpse of the history of the falls and the official residence of prime minister of canada and the governor of canada.
Seating isn't the best, to be honest, as they barely had space or proper sun shelter. The food was slightly overpriced for the quantity, but the USP is, obviously, the location. The Seoul Sister hotdog I tried was average and spicy (good spicy). However, the sashimi tacos were awesome! The staff is okay, too. Could be better. All in all, not a bad place to hang out at in the summer!
A beautiful lookout, but stone walls are high and difficult for children to look over. To really appreciate the view of the falls you'll need to be at least 4 feet tall. Parking is free, but a bit of a walk on a paved path from the falls. Restaurant (Tavern on the Falls - reviewed separately) has some of the strangest hours I've ever seen. Also an eclectic menu.
A well maintained lush green park in vicinity of downtown but on a peaceful Street, away from noises-disturbances. Has very good walkway. Lawn is also well maintained. Has wheelchair accessible parking and entrance too. Has now washroom facilities too if I am not mistaken. Wooden house from all four sides open is a very elegant design. Parking is small.
There are a dozen parking spaces at the 50 Sussex. From there you can visit the Rideau falls, international peace garden, Commonwealth Air Force Memorial, Mackenzie-Papineau Memorial to the south and Ambassade de France / Embassy of France, Official Residence of the Prime Minister of Canada and Statue of Queen Elizabeth II to the north.
Ottawa Ontario Canada natural beauty the falls are open up in the springs to prevent flooding from high water levels from the snow ❄ and ice melts a great place to look at the outaouais or just to si? MnM t in at a table and have a gathering with friends and family when times permits just enjoy
Worth the sight seeing i think. Many war monuments dedicated to canadian soldiers can be found around, along with a beautiful statue of John McCrae, auther of the poem ''In Flanders field''. You could along the canal as well, and many goose can be seen. Not far from the Rideau Hall and Union Cafe that is worth trying as well.
Visited Oct 18 therefore the pub next to falls had been closed for over a week. The falls are impressive but don't expect Niagara. When patio is open in sumertime the falls are lit with colored lighting and would make this a memorable evening. They also have weekly bands
It is a beautiful place and usually not too busy. If you are looking for a nice walk, it is a good place to end. There is a "hidden" bar (Tavern of the Falls I believe) and it faces West. It is a perfect spot for sunsets with the view of the waterfall and Ottawa River.
I love this place, I have been going since I was a little girl! I know they have a restaurant there now and its not quite the same, its loud and busy at nights, but I go there during the day to enjoy the view and the sound of the water! Beautiful views for sure!
This is a great spot to visit in the city either you are a tourist or a resident, the views are beautiful and peaceful, during spring yo7 can enjoy the tulips in the park and if course the falls view, take the opportunity and visit this place you won't regret.
Small but beautiful falls. Tavern at the Falls is right there offering sandwiches, hotdogs, taco, alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks and more. Looking out to the falls and Ottawa River from the Tavern is really relaxing and enjoyable.
Beautiful spot. It's around 30 mins walk from parliament hill, but on a beautiful day it's worth the walk. Try to go just around sunset to enjoy both views . Post sunset it's even peaceful and the city lights add to the beauty
Beautiful waterfall. Plenty of parking and also walkable distance from the Parliament building. There is a small walk near the falls that takes you around the Minto bridges to see the backwaters of the falls.
We passed through the park while on a walk and were very happy to discover it. The view was beautiful and the park was well maintained. We definitely want to head back and spend more time in the area soon.
Natural beauty at its best. Seeing the strength and power of the falls up close was amazing. I stopped off in the area whilst touring East Canada and enjoyed the views provided by this wonder of nature.
Simply beautiful, I love Ottawa spent a couple of days at a Hotel there so I could tour the City , the Museum was very interesting and informative, the Native display was out of this world. Loved it.
Good way to spend an afternoon either relaxing or walking around the paths. Come here for 30 minutes or a few hours and have a picnic. Parking is free and the atmosphere is peaceful and relaxing.
Its beautiful we live in a beautiful region there so much to see and offer I live in Gatineau and there is ots here as well but I have always been so happy to go to Ottawa I love this town …
A very small park. Come for the waterfalls, not the park.
Playground
No playground here.
Dog-friendliness
Keep your dog on a leash.
Picnic area
You could have a picnic here.
Beautiful views year around. Summer and Fall are the best, in my opinion. Good walking paths. Great place to take photos of the fireworks from during the Lac Lemay casino fireworks festival.
This is a stunning place to visit in the capital of Canada. There just happens to be a restaurant nearby to even further your experience. A must if you want to take in the sites in Ottawa.
Secret Green Space. Quiet walk away from the busy Dtn Ottawa. Shared Bike Path. Beautiful quiet streets in New Edinburgh. Short walk to the Governor General's Open Space. A must see.
Lovely Ottawa River view patio with a cool vibe, tasty hot dogs and yhrist quenching sangria! Highly recommended that you visit mid afternoon, it starts to get busy around 4 pm.
This lookout has always been a special spring stop. The Rideau River falls into the Ottawa are amazing. There is now a new casual patio restaurant with great food and drinks.
Beautiful place to enjoy an evening party with friends❤️❤️❤️ You will get some snacks for munching…pretty good scenic spot with fall n snacks n friends …
On my walk to Rideau Hall I stopped here just out of curiosity, I wonder if people goes to the park on sunny days because looks like a nice place to release some stress.
A gorgeous spot to walk around in the summer . An amazing view of the Ottawa river and best water fall in the city . Close to all other things to do down town Ottawa.
Great place to watch the spring run off. The falls are at their best this time of year. Bring a waterproof jacket. It's usually cool here and there is often spray.
Relaxing and a beautiful view of Gatineau. The Monument to Canadian Aid Workers is a nice place to have a seat and catch a cool breeze on a warm summer afternoon.
Just a few mins away from my home, this place not only provides gorgeous view but also has nice garden, flowers, restaurants, waterfall sprinkles to enjoy.
park was ok, lots of walking and tourists. tavern on the falls DO NOT recommend. one small soft taco smaller than a saucer with 1 tbsp of meat on it for 12$
Amazing fall by France embassy. There is a trail nearby perfect for running which have some slopes to add fun to the run but not too over at the meantime.
Nice area with great views of the river and scenic background got pictures. For those interested in gatineau Autumn festivities you can see it from here.
Beautiful! You can walk right over the falls and treat yourself to some delicious food and drinks at "Tavern on the Falls". Can't wait to visit again.
Nice place to walk and relax with sounds of water, clean, kid and pet(leashed) friendly , open grass area for picnic or just to have a sit down ! More
I visited the back part of the falls early in the morning and got to witness the serene waters before the falls and stunning reflections on the water
Beautiful vistas. Has a bar. Long and smoothish bike paths. Just avoid it during rush hours. The traffic around Sussex is enough to drive anyone mad.
Did you see this little monument donated by Turkish Embassy, you can see different tiles from Turkey. My favourite is the one with tulips …
Small scale version of Niagara Falls. Very nice to walk around and on the bridge. You can jet sky and take a boat ride down near the falls.
Nice park. Nice falls. Good for a few minutes of chill time. Nice restaurant there too but not sure how it is. But the place was full.
Merging of the Rideau to Ottawa rivers. Two sections of the falls. Better seen from afar at The Champlain park i Gatineau, Quebec.
Very different in winter. Cool to see the ice formations. Nice to walk around the area, but not as accessible as in summer.
Good place for a walk and views are nice. There’s also a small military monument that’s interesting to read and see
Nice place to visit from out of town or living here. on a bike ride or rollerblade bath leads you rite to it.
Want to see a part of Ottawa that is usually missed, Rideau Falls is always nice to see during any season.
Especially if you take the time to stop and gave a hotdog and beer at the patio restaurant beside it!
Best place to gaze into the rideau and ottawa rivers coming together but avoid it if it's windy!
Majestic, even when it's -8°C. Earlier spring thaw upstream has increased the flow of the falls.
It's like a little get away from the city in the city! Easily accessible with easy parking.
This place is always amazing. Easy access to bike paths. Always different in every season.
A great place to let the grandkids enjoy themselves without getting close to the falls...
The sound of the falls. Omg and the water droplets coming on your face. Peaceful
Beautiful view! Very nice falls. Would like to try out restaurant on the falls.
Small falls. Park area was lovely for walking and cycling along the river.
Not easy access with present renovations in the area.
Love taking pictures here, even in the winter
Enjoyed the nice view and the fall.
Beautiful place. Worth the spot.
