I didn't like this place. I ordered the soup with pork and shrimp, the service was quite slow even though the place was not crowded. The soup was actually tasty but I was very disappointed to see it only had one shrimp in it ... only one! I wanted to talk to the waiter but he was nowhere to be found, didn't even come back to offer a refill or to simply ask if everything was okay. I spoke to the person at the cash register and explained how disappointed I was and why. He couldn't explain what had happened, said sorry and didn't charge for a tip which was pretty fair. I thanked him but also let him know I was never going back there. Now, as I write this review I am quite shocked to see the way the restaurant responds to some bad reviews posted here and how they seem not to take any responsibility for the issues brought up by their clients. Instead, the person managing the restaurant's account just tries to turn around all events to blame them on the inconsiderate, negative, rude customers who dare post negative reviews because their expectations were not met. I'm looking forward to your response as in some of the previous low-rate reviews to instruct me on how "sometimes a little something, can avoid something else" (such as an honest review regarding what you're lacking). You really should stop fighting your clients, appreciate the feedback and improve your service.

The food is top tier. It brings you the taste of Vietnam in Montréal. There's also a variety of food choices. What I don't like here is the service. I can say that I am a regular here but one time I took my friend here for lunch and we placed the order in advance by calling the resto and informing them about our arrival 15mins from that said time and we were welcomed by angry servers saying we wasted their time. We clearly informed them that we are dining in and upon our arrival, our food was already wrapped. With all due respect, we tried to understand to not cause too much commotion. We respectfully asked for plates and utensils with the plan of transferring the packed food to have it eaten at the place. This gesture made the server/owner more annoyed than ever that he shouted and pushed some plates on the side. Concluding this drama, I will not go back. The food is good but the service is rotten.

I really wanted to like this place, I really did. The stars were aligned too: Mouthwatering pictures and reviews on Google. A huge line-up and a jam packed restaurant with people eating on the outdoor patio even if it was 15 degrees outside. An extensive menu with unique dishes. I was sorely disappointed. Vietnamese cuisine is known for the subtlety of it's different fragrances where the aroma of exotic herbs is often conjugated with sweetness and the punjunt flavor of fish sauce. Hoai Huong didn't contain any of that. Absent was any distinct flavor at all. The pho broth tasted like water. The grill meats lacked any distinct flavor. Even the fried shrimp didn't taste anything more than greasy. The final nail in the coffin was the lack of taste in the fish sauce which was dilluted to the point of tasting like salted water. There are many choices for authentic Vietnamese food in the Cote-des-neiges neighborhood, this isn't one.

Ok this was a very nice surprise. We were a small group and we chose to sit on their outdoor terrace which was lovely and had umbrellas in case the rain came. The staff was very prompt and helpful. My friend who suggested this place also suggested I share their 3-style beef platter with her and I am so grateful she suggested that dish, it was delicious and fun. It comes with round rice wrapper sheets and a warm water semicircle container to dip your sheets into to assemble your spring roll wraps. Delicious and fun all around. I will come back to try other dishes.

Considering the large number of Pho restaurants in Montreal, you would think a great effort would be made to rise above the rest but not this one. The soup with pork and shrimp had one shrimp in it. The soup with beef lacked beef as well as noodles. After bringing us our food, we did not see the waiter again. Sorry, there are way too many options available to ever give this place a second chance. There is a Pho restaurant on Lacombe that is leaps and bounds ahead.

Great little place for good Vietnamese food. The service was friendly, the variety of the menu was huge (maybe too much selection), but the waiter recommended some dishes for us to try, which all were really tasty and unique. The mango salad had very unique flavors that I would recommend to anyone going here. The two main dishes were very good too, though slightly too expensive for the type of place. I would recommend coming here with an open mind and going with what they recommend. All three of my dishes were well prepared and made for excellent photo subjects. If you take a look at my pictures, we ordered number 24 and 25 on the menu.

Ordered our favorite, bo la lot. Only 6 rolls and much smaller. Not enough rice cakes, not enough carrots, not enough cucumbers. And the kicker: much higher price (28$) now. I know inflation and all but come on now. I was still hungry. A response to their response: we have asked for additional rice paper. Still not enough. As for the cucumbers and carrots, customers shouldn't have to ask for more of those in the first place. Based on past experience, it could be seen as "bothering" the staff too much with petty requests.

I went with a Vietnamese friend. Food was approved by her as authentic, and I approved it as absolutely delicious! My favorite one was the soup, pho. This is exactly the soup you want to have in a winter day! The food came super fast, and they brought everything together. The food is not expensive and the place is small but cozy. There is parking right in front of the door. This is a must try!!!!!!!

Vietnamese spring rolls are very delicious, the outside layer is crispy and the inside has a lot of spices. the vietnamese pho is also very good with sweet broth and fresh meat. This place also has outside seating suitable for both dining and breathing in the fresh air. Take note of both the steamed rice and the ribs, it's truly a fun experience

This place has been here for years. They have terrific lunch specials with chicken skewers, rice, veggies, vietnamese sauce, well priced around ten dollars. They do pick up, and everything in the box you take home is delicious. Just went here recently with my family and we ordered the classic Pho soup, which was decent, but especially loved the spicy salad with clantro and shoots. We keep going back, because they're always good.

  • Vanessa Bassole

The food was ok and the portions are generous but a bit pricey. On the other hand, the service was friendly but kind of average. They kept forgetting our requests for more water, menus, desserts etc even though the restaurant was 80% empty. We still recommend it because the menu is interesting Food: 4/5 Decoration: 3,5/5 Atmosphere 3,5/5 Staff: 3/5 Value for money: 4/5

Awesome neighbourhood gem. Friendly service. Great soups. Lunch express special is great value. Big portions. Mango salad is delicious. Outdoor patios in warm months. Busy with a local crowd. Some limited vegetarian options, would love it if their fried spring roll or imperial roll came in a vegetarian version. The kitchen knows exactly how to fulfill your Vietnamese cravings!

It's extremely hard to find good, authentic Vietnamese food in this city; let alone BANH XEO. I was so extremely excited to see it on the menu and knew it's what I wanted to eat. Portions were massive and the service was amazing. Highly recommend!!! Thanks so much!

Good food but slow service (maybe because of the food I ordered - fish hot pot, which may take longer time to prep n cooked). Will like to go back. Variety of dishes - family dishes. Great location for local area. Near metro line.

The best Vietnamese food I’ve had in Montreal. They’ve been in business for over 30 years and 2 generations. The food is unbelievably tasty and the service is super fast. The menu might be overwhelming but unless you’re super picky, you won’t be disappointed with any choice. Just ask them and they’ll tell you your best option based on what you like!

Delicious Vietnamese dining. Unfortunately did not respect 2meter physical distancing between our table and an other group. Server forgetful with our order. Good experience all the same.
