This marble statue of Queen Victoria was erected in 1897 for her diamond jubilee and was originally placed at Gordon gardens adjacent to the Governor's palace (now presidential palace).It was removed from its original location due to the belief of bad luck on the president during reign ofJR Jayawardena. Now it is placed adjacent to the natural history museum overlooking the victoria park(viharamaha devi park).
