This is a great place for a walk or run. It's not a huge area but it is very diverse and stunning. Especially in spring after alot of rain. The wetlands fill and the birdlife is extremely abundant. You can spot pelicans in the larger pond and the Onkaparinga river. The trails are well defined and stable under foot.
Restrooms
Small toilet block at the North end. Never used them so no idea what they're like!
Dog-friendliness
Great place for dogs. Just make sure you keep them on a leash please.
Picnic area
Table and chairs under cover with a BBQ.
There are different levels of walk/hike around the river that are beautiful and scenic. It isn't exactly quiet though with the massive number of corellas around the place. The river walk around the horseshoe bend was very enjoyable and not too challenging as someone who requires a walking stick, but was quite long if you do the full circuit. It could do with some markers, but if you just keep following the river it isn't too hard to find your way.
Essentially has two loops around the lakes, a main trail along the river and a few extras. One lake has a boardwalk through it which is spectacular when the lake is filled with water. Quite flat and the water attracts a lot of bird life. Kangaroos can often be seen. parking a bit limited at busy times so will have to park a bit further up in that case. Dog friendly. A small toilet near the carpark.
An excellent National Park with many recreation activities. There are multiple kayak launch spots dotted along the river and no shortage of good fishing spots. The walking trails are well signed and most have decent gravel. Prams can be taken on some circuits though not all. Plenty of wildlife can be seen, from kangaroos to pelicans. Mountain bikes, horse riding, and dogs allowed. NO motorcycles.
When my daughter was younger , we used to go bike riding here every Sunday. She used to love seeing the kangaroos , riding along the boardwalk , exploring areas we'd not seen before and occasionally she'd ride her bike while I threw a line in to catch a few Bream or Mulloway. Great memories.
Basically a botanic garden for every weed species known to man. Probably great if you live nearby for a stroll or walking the dog, but i wouldnt waste my time coming here otherwise, unless you want to take photos of endless weeds strewn across a flat boring and uninviting landscape
We had lunch under the shade of a big gum, with the river in front of us. There were pelicans, crows, noisy minors, all enjoying the day. Some trying to catch bugs flittering around. It was a very pleasant day and I go there regularly to have a quiet lunch break in the car.
Every year for the past 12-13 years a fun raiser - kids with cacer fishing competition has been held the organiser and lots of volunteers have done an amazing job ,well worth taking the time out and be involved - was a great day as usual.
Great network of walking and cycling trails. Guaranteed to see waterfowl along the river trails. There is a local mob of roos that are active early morning and late in the day. Keep an eye out for kestrels too.
Love this place great walk and wildlife , a chance to getaway from the madness of the world and have some down time , easy to follow trails kangaroos , Koalas , bird watchers paradise what more do you want
Excellent trails, clean and well maintained paths are clear of grass seeds of overhanging brush and branches. Easy to find your way without getting lost while still having great scenery and wildlife views
Went Kayaking up the river. Very peaceful. Great scenery, lots of birdlife to see and wetlands to walk around. If fishing is your thing you can do it from your kayak or plenty of spots by the river.
Great place to go walking and bird watching. Lots of different birds to see here. A relatively popular area with plenty of people moving through so you don't end up feeling isolated/vulnerable.
Visit often as a local. It's always an enjoyable experience. I've posted previously and supplied photos. Great place to reconnect with the outdoors now the weather is slightly warmer …
Such an easy walk by the Onkaparinga River. Kangaroos and birds of all types. Trains to spot too. Also the echo between tge train bridge pedestals is amazing and surprising.
Nice place for walking, jogging, riding your bike, kayaking and fishing. BBQ and toilets, easy parking. Many different birds, kangaroos and there is a cute red Fox.
Multiple access points to this idealistic National Park. Peaceful, ideal for walking, riding and dogs allowed on a leash. Parking available at access points.
Beautiful place to walk with your dogs. You will see kangaroos, birds, lizards, snakes and beautiful scenery. Even seen a Echidna once their.
A great place for a walk with the doggo. Wonderful views on a mainly flat walk ( you can dodge the small hills), with well maintained tracks.
Awesome place, so much variety of wildlife specially birds, good running spot fishing is sunset is magic over the river. #Midcoast …
Great little walk along the river - just a shame some dog owners don't pick up after their dogs and the paths are riddled with dog waste.
Love to take walks here and there are so many kangaroos
