The largest natural city park in Calgary and one of the largest in north America, Nose Hill Park, is spread across an area of more than 11 square kms, and it provides habitat to a few mammals, porcupines, gophers, and ground squirrels. Mammals such as deer and coyotes may be seen roaming the grasslands. I wish I saw a deer, but I was not fortunate to see any in its natural habitat. The immense park, that leads to several hills of various heights, has paved and unpaved trails as well as tens of beaten paths. I found that some of the the narrow beaten paths were easier to climb the slope than the rough, pebbled, and challenging tracks. All the huge open area, as far as one can see in the west ( if you climb the elevation from east), has very few trees, enormous grasslands, wild flowers and vegetation, boulders at some places, and hills; there are no benches to rest anywhere while climbing (at least, I did not come across any), and has nothing much to amuse children and some people. The ascending hike is challenging to many people which is the reason why the place does not attract lots of visitors. On a Sunday evening in the beautiful summer whether, I went to 3 parking areas, and there were 75% empty spots! I; nonetheless, enjoyed the beautiful, scenic views of Calgary skyline in the south, mountains in the west, city in the east, and hills in the north. It being huge, the park has six parking lots at different locations with lots of parking spots, so it is easy to find a spot to park your vehicle anytime of the day. This is a good natural area; however, it is for hikers, dog walkers, and cyclists - it is not for picnickers, old people, and families with small children.

Climbing from the 14th street and the 64th Avenue parking lots, I did not come across any playground; I did not see any as far as I could see.

washrooms are available at the parking lots; however, there is no washroom facility in the vast open hilly area.

Dogs are allowed, and there are areas where unleashed dogs can move freely.
Picnic area
Once you start hiking the ascending trail, there is no picnic area or any bench to sit anywhere. At one place, I saw a few boulders, and one of them facing east was occupied by a couple for a long time.

Nose hill park is a great park. It is an area in the city where you can feel comfortable hiking in with or without a dog, but feel like you aren't in the city anymore. With multiple paths and entrances, plenty of parking, and a wide area to explore, you will have a different experience every time. Be on the look out for coyotes, deer, and porcupines when going off the main pathway. Be aware that that public washrooms are only at a few entrances and garbage bins are far and few between on the main pathway. That being said, main pathways have points of interest, maps, and small history tidbits to keep your walk interesting.
Dog-friendliness
Most dog owners have well behaved dogs! They have to with how open the park is and the extensive amount of wildlife. If you have a dog that has fantastic recall and respond well to various temperaments from other dogs, this park will be great for you.

I really enjoyed visiting Nose Hill and hiking all around the park. Great views out over West and Central Calgary, all the way across the Airport and surrounding areas on a clear day. Entering from the Southern entrance gate, I was easily able to navigate hiking a big counter-clockwise loop ending at the Western entrance by ocassionally using the maps provided. Lots of bikers, hikers and walkers out and about but the park did not feel busy at all. It was nice to mix up all of the trails and route options available, not always taking the solid walking paths. Definitely recommend using the narrower paths, going through bushy and exploring wooded sections too. I was lucky to see lots of wildlife en route including many insects, birds, gophers and even a big, magnificent deer. So lucky! No coyotes this time though.

Nose Hill is a natural park and lies at the northwest part of the clagary. Beautiful views of the city with a ton of photo opportunities. Beautiful area for off leash dogs as well, but just be aware that wildlife can be around, so keep that in mind, especially with small dogs. We visited during March, winter. Hiking in snow was quite challenging for the first time hikers but a nice experience. Wear basic winter gear before visiting. We don't see any trails during winters. Have to find the hard snow and walk on the same.Make sure you have access to Google Maps - lots of trails!

It's a dog friendly park but just be aware that wildlife can be around, so keep that in mind, especially with small dogs.

Awesome park for walk or fresh air. There are more than 5 entrances to the park. You can do a circle walk on paved or unpaved pathways. Some bit steep paths too. Lots of fun and fresh air. There are few deers in the park, but barely visible, I came across once a few years ago. Other than that I am not aware of Coyotes or any other animals. Enjoy with family. Restrooms are only near Car packing, please avoid urinating elsewhere in the park for the sake of goodness.

A petty large park located on the north of Bow River. It is bigger than the University of Alberta. According to government of Alberta, it is the fourth largest urban park in Canada. The land of Nose Hill Park in present day is for recreational used, when the city bought them in by C$6,873 per acre. It was a signature movement to show keeping the sustainable of local species. Deer, porcupines, northern pocket gophers could be found on the land. The forest and grassland mixture make the view great. Native vascular plant types also could be discovered, with parry oat grass and golden bean. Best park to walk a well behaved dog in Calgary, as well as taking a selfie.

Beautiful natural park with tons of trails to explore. Prairie and small groves to wander through with lots of local wildflowers and wildlife. Huge off leash areas for dogs but please keep them from harrassing deer and other wildlife. Stunning views of the city. Parking lots can be found around the perimeter. Take water and snacks as this park is huge. Garage bins and information plaques can be found throughout as well as benches. The Northwest parking lot has washrooms and easy access off Shaganappi Trail. Super popular place but because of the vast size, you can easily walk alone for quite a while if desired ❤️

Love this place! The biggest park within city limited. It has a huge section for dogs off leash and even biggest section for on leash dog areas. There a lots of path ways, some are gravel and some are not. Great for runners. There is lots of wild life out there from deer to coyots so becareful with your dogs.

An okay park in Calgary. The path isn’t terribly interesting for the most part, save for some decent views of downtown at some points. The rest of the way the path is plain and a little boring, though I can see this being a nice place to do a short walk especially with your dog. The trail can get cold as there isn’t any shelter from the wind, but also hot as you’re in direct sunlight the whole way through. Overall, just an average hike. Parking is great and plentiful.

Absolutely beautiful! The pathways run in all directions, making it a "new" experience everytime! You can either stick to the pathways (great for biking), or walk the "beaten path". Most of the park is off-leash, which is great for the fur-baby to run around and burn off lots of energy. Great place for fabulous photos with all the beautiful wildflowers and natural scenery...worth getting a plant identifier app just to check out what you're seeing.

I was scouting some places to do some work as I needed to review and test a bike. I started in downtown calgary and got riding. I followed some cycling routes and found this park!! It's huge. And has so much green space right in the city! The trails are great and have a mix of paved, gravel and off road so there is a little bit for everyone. A ton of active people out here and a lot of dogs havining a great time. I really love this city.

The best place to walk/run/bike, breathe fresh air and savour the nature! It is especially beautiful in the summer time but in the spring you can enjoy the first flowers, snowdrops! If you are lucky, you will see deers and coyotes. This park is dog-friendly and has an off-leash area. As far as I know, the park has some benches, but no tables as it is mainly for hiking, running and biking. That's why it is not overcrowded, and I like it.

I love this park, and I haven’t even had the opportunity (nor do I think I ever will fully) to explore the entire park! I typically start out at the Shaganappi Trail NW entrance. My pup is able to be off leash as soon as we get to the entrance from the parking lot. I love how much off-leash space there is for the pups. And it’s a great walk and view! I can’t wait to experience it in the summer.

Nose Hill is vast and open. It has few trees compared to most parks in Calgary, but it is INCREDIBLE. I went in the middle of summer and there were numerous Saskatoon bushes with ripe Saskatoon berries (which are native to the area). And the views are stunning. This is the park you go to if you want the ultimate vantage point to view this fantastic city. Binoculars and camera recommended!

This is one of the parks in the city of Calgary that gives a good view of the entire Calgary landscape from the North West region, and has a very sizeable area for park goers, nature lovers and hikers who can't go out of the city. It's very good for mountain bikes and such workouts as mild hikes, and very safe. The only downside to me is the absence of a small lake or river body.

Great place for a picnic, watch fireworks or a romantic evening overlooking the city as well as mountain views. You can hear coyotes yipping and howling at night. Also good for hill runs, cross-country skiing & snowshoeing. In the winter you might be lucky enough to to see people kitesurfing on skis. *check out the valleys. I’ve come across fox’s, deer and even a moose.

The park has a very convenient and accessible location. A nice place to go walk in the middle of the city. Not much to see, it's very flat but you can have a nice easy hike. Great place to walk with your dog with off leash areas, also a good place to bike or just relax and walk. The view is amazing from the top of the hill. You can see both downtown and the mountains.

We love coming to the large off leash area in Nosehill. It is such a good place to push a stroller while letting my fur baby have some freedom. There are so many paths and options that we can come here multiple times in a week and do different circuits. Disclaimer *** We have run into multiple coyotes here so if your dog doesn't have good recall keep it on leash***

I was told that this is a beautiful natural park, but there is not much trees. Trailes are really good for easy and light hiking, however it is hot under the sun or too cold and windy. Lots of places for off leash dogs and parking spots in different locations of the park. Wild life like deers and coyotes seems interesting but a little dangerous. Be careful.

Great place for calgarians!! Specially living in NW area you get a panaromic view of entire calgary, you can have morning/evening walk, go sit with your family, enjoy meal toghether. It is an awesome place, parking is avilable for cars and pickup trucks, must visit!!

Best off leash for Dogs! Great view of the city and paved path too along with tons of unpaved paths. Obviously be careful as the park is shared with other off leash dogs, cyclists and lots of other wildlife (coyotes, deer, porcupines, etc). Can get pretty windy so wearing layers is always key :) there are a few picnic tables in the park and washrooms.

A vast park in the heart of Calgary. I loved coming here and was only able to cover part of it in my visit. You can start in different places and get a whole different experience each time. I love the wildflowers and wildlife - I had a deer walk right past me during my most recent visit! Also lots of great educational signs along the trails.

It's so beautiful! ! Wide open space with a magnificent view of the Rocky Mountains and of downtown Calgary. A very special place located in North West Calgary. The amazing variety of grasses all year long offer a beautiful palette of earth tones and textures. Every time I walk up there I am awe struck! ! This neighbourhood is so fortunate.

you can walk this park forever, always something to be found or explored! i’ve been to so many places in this park and always find a way to entertain myself somehow. i like parking up 14th street the most, shaganappi is second. from there you can walk the trails and let them guide you somewhere

Great park. Love all the amazing scenery, and the skyline view facing the city.It makes a great environment for photographers to share their work. But I did dislike the facts that there was urine in some of the connecting tunnels which is really gross, and potholes which impose a risk with your leg. Please improve on this next visit

An amazing place with a diverse variety of flora and fauna, stunning views and interesting terrain. It feels like an escape from the city within the city. Vast trail network that you can walk, run or bike with or without your canine companion(s). It, at times, feels like you have it all to yourself to explore. Highly recommended.

Decent place to go for a hike and bring dogs for some exercise, huge off leash area in the middle of the park. The only downside I found is the paths are a bit confusing. The maps in the park show the main paths but there are so many side paths that can make it difficult to keep track of a specific route if you're planning it.

If you are new to calgary or even old in here & haven’t visited this place yet. I would strongly recommend to go check this out. Perfect time for the visit in summer around 1900hrs if you stay late you can see calgary litup. Excellent view of calgary airport, downtown is totally visible excellent place to be. !!!

Easily my favourite place to visit in the NW when you just want to go for a walk, enjoy the fresh air or take in the gorgeous views this park has to offer from every direction. Experienced some of the best sunrises and sunsets here and love to bring new people here whenever I'm showing someone around Calgary.

Lovely walk with great views of downtown, and peaceful stretches of prairie. Very few other people out walking on a weekday evening. Somewhat icy in places but mostly packed snow and mud, but no real issues with normal footwear and no spikes. Route taken was the "Nose Hill Lake Loop" on AllTrails.

What a wonderful park to have in the middle of the city. Although, it doesn’t have many tall trees or rivers flowing in the middle. Nose hill park is a spectacular place to visit in the morning, evening or anytime of day. I really love coming to this so park with my wife at any time of day.

You will find many pathways to do biking, walking, or running. This was my first time doing mountain bike, I had a nice experience and you can also enjoy the view of Calgary

It's a big field yo where you can walk with your dog.

This is a beautiful park perfect for a relaxing walk, it is very big and it has several parking lots on different points around the park. It is also ideal for biking due to the steep hills all over the park, there are some picnic tables (just a few) on Summer time bug spray is a must.

I don't take walks up the hill but I do park at the various parking lots to relax and from my computer. Cell coverage has gotten better over the years. If you're the type who likes to relax in their car and you are looking for nice places in the city, this is a good spot for sure.

Great mini escape from the city, Viewing spot for moonrise, pretty casual mountain bike trails but lots of them! You can certainly get your hill climbs on here also on foot. I've seen Deer, Coyotes and porcupines and it's cool to watch the seasons change on each aspect of the hill

We have Nose Hill close and we are there almost every day. Dogs could be off-leash, which is so important for us cause we have an active blue heeler. Amazing view on Calgary or other areas, it depends where you go. You could walk, run, cycle so many kilometers. Love it there ❤

A great way to spend an evening in solitude and possibly see some canine buds running around! There are plenty of easy maintained trails and views as far as downtown and the Rockies. One of the best and least-crowded city parks I've been to, well worth a few hours to explore!

Amazing park to view a sunset, local wildlife, or get lost amongst the trees (sometimes literally)! This place is huge and pet-friendly, and so convenient to get to with multiple parking areas around the perimeter. An awesome spot for a walk without having to leave the city.

I have never found a place where I can only see mellow grass, white clouds and blue sky in the sight. You can also see the whole landscape of calgary such as calgary houses and tower. There is an old damaged car parked inside the wood as well. Take your time to discover!

A nice park with beautiful views of the downtown and mountains. A little bit flat and monotonous, but nice to be able to see far into the distance. Watch out for coyotes, I saw one roaming about in broad daylight.

I have always lived in the vicinity of the park, and can't move away from it. Such a beautiful, wide open space, good for running, biking, walking. It is really quite big, you can do A15 km loop within the park, on trails. Lots of deer, coyotes and even porcupines!

A beautiful place to go for a casual walk in nature with stunning city, mountain and prarie views. The best place to take sunset photos and photos of the moon. Also great for dog walking and saw some people tobogganing today. Great all year round! Good parking too.

Nice place with a skyline view to Calgary Downtown. Be sure to put on comfortable shoes and smth that will guard you from wind. Definitely perfect place to walk with your dog, but don’t forget about coyotes living there. Good place to stay one by one with yourself

One of our favourite places for walking the dog. So many different paths to take! Only downside is the lack of garbage bins. Very pretty in the summer, even better in the fall with the trees changing colour. Best in the winter for dogs to romp around in the snow!

Calgarians are so lucky to have this huge park in the middle of the city! The park is very well maintained, and clean. There are so many activities to do here by yourself or in a group. Bonus is the huge off leash area in the middle of the park. My dog loves it!

At the entrance, the signage says dogs should be on leash, but still, a lot of owners would have their pets running around without one. Made the kids really scared. Park authorities should make regular checks and fine or make the pet owners aware of the rules.

I love this hill. It’s so beautiful to see from the top of the hill. We could see the Calgary city , airport and everything around. I climbed from the east end and I couldn’t find any bench to sit. Though no seats, it’s a nice place for relaxing

Meh it’s alright. It’s a decent place to walk around or bike. The views are ok enough, but it’s not my favourite place in Calgary. Getting to the top can suck. Plus once your up there it’s pretty exposed so if it’s hot it might be a bit much.

Well, I don’t want to sound judgmental, but I’m from Vancouver and this view is pretty dull until you get to the top (1200m) and look at Downtown Calgary. Perfect for bikers, dogs, family activities. Many spots to park your vehicle.

It is a decent place to have a walk on a sunny day in the fall. The view is impressive, and the paths are not hard for most of the area. The only thing that might not be that great is that garbage has become a real problem here.

The largest park in Calgary. It's hard to call it park because there a few trees. It looks like wide open space, like field. The beautiful place for walking with dogs, running, watching aurora lights and just relaxing from city.

I was here several times during the fall, the park is equipped with benches for rest, and from the south side there is a beautiful view of downtown, the air is fresh, just what you need for a rest from the noise of the big city.

It's a nice place to walk your dog and ride your bike it's a big Park and for different the levels of riding if you stay on the top it's pretty flat but if you want something more challenging go along the sides of the park

My dog absolutely loves it here! Beautiful open space that's easy to social distance in. Snow is definitely above ankle depth off the main trail right now following the big storm but still a great walk!

Not as wooded as other parks but definitely adventurous. Lots of steep hills. We never found the restrooms. It took us an hour to walk one section. My 8 year tired out.

It's good course for trekking or exercise. Many calgarian take a walk with their family or couple. It's wonderful place. You can see lots of flower and animals.
