We have been with Dr. Byrd for close to 20 years. I am not one to leave reviews at all, no less one as painful as this one. However, this was such an awful experience, it must be heard. It was gut wrenching and painful that Dr. Byrd let a first year vet work on our pup while both her and Dr. Martinez were both on site when we came in as an emergency. We have always only worked with ONLY Dr. Byrd, or Dr. Martinez. When I found out both Dr. Byrd, and Dr. Martinez were there, I was crushed while our pup received stitches on his paw. We spent every other day getting laser treatments for our pup, totaling 13 days. The collar wasn't long enough from the beginning, which caused our pup to reach the wrapped wound and nibble at it constantly. After being told thats the only size they have for 10 days, and I insisted, one magically appeared. I had concerns about air not hitting the wound, the first year vet said, I am keeping it wrapped, she also gloated that Dr. Martinez would disagree, but thats what she's doing, I took her smugness as confidence, epic fail on my part. When Dr. Martinez stepped in, she made our pup stay for the day so air could hit the wound, which should have happened from the beginning. That is why you trust your vet with the Dr.'s you know, instead of getting passed to a stranger who clearly needs to work on her bedside manner, (a degree is only half the battle Dr. Byrd) The last day there was the straw that broke the camels back for more reasons than I have time for. I wonder how this awesome family owned vet has turned into a cash grabbing vet. They checked me out while I was still waiting for my pup, and didn't even give me the meds he needed. It's been 24 hours since the incident. Ample time for our vet for over 20 years get back us with some sort of compassion, or apology that she is just so busy, her loyal clients, both human and fur babies weren't treated correctly. Crickets. What I can guarantee is a response to this review, that you will have time for Dr. Byrd. Dr. Byrd, we will live without eachother just fine. Knowing that you knew Sig was in and out of there for 10 days, and giving me a complete stranger to treat my pup, and not even check on us truly breaks my heart. Even worse than that, the person you have minding the store was not at all compassionate and kind, not even to your employee's. My heartfelt recommendation to you is to be careful who you leave your hard earned legacy to. You lost a great pup to treat, and you lost a great family, worse of all you lost our trust.

After seeing the 2 doctors here for 3 years, we get scheduled with the "fresh out of vet school doc" and had a terrible experience. She was very full of herself and never interacted with my GSD except to examine and give him shots ( one ok, one bent needle, which has never happened in 3 years, that's why i dont let them take him to the back to get shots....you never know what they do) and dealing with "mike" the manger after a $68 mistake on their staffs part. Hounding me with calls for 2 weeks. Then threatening to send me to collections. (On the week of my b day nontheless) for only a month over due balance that was their fault. Apparently Betty at the front forgot to charge something out. This Is ridiculous managment. I would come back to see only Dr Byrd or Martinez only if they fired "Mike". Just a suggestion....hes ruining your business. *****response to owner response on Google review******* WOW "mike". The only financial threats came from your office, threatening to send me to collections over $68 dollars and I have the voice mail to prove it. (After less than 30 days with no paper billing and no formal notification of pass due billing, which was your front desks fault),and I come in EVERY month to get my dog an allergy shot. its $100 (that's 1200$ a year if you cant do the math) plus all the other appointments and charges ( more than 3000 a yr). I am APPALLED you would accuse a customer of, in your own words "financial threats because your dog had an accident on the ride home". It was $68 dollars....I dont care about 68 dollars, I care about my dog being sick after seeing your " fresh out of vet school vet" and getting shots and broken needles. That's why yall dont get to take my dog to the back, they can break needles and you never know. What if they left one in your dog? Yes we HAD a long standing relationship that you ruined with terrible customer service and judging by your reply, you, or any of the doctors there have no remorse for it.

I felt very comfortable watching the Northern Oaks team interact with my 100 pound American Bulldog, the first time he came in. He was, as usual very excited to meet new people, and nobody shied away from his attention seeking. The medical team made him feel at home, even getting his nails trimmed without more than a mild grumble (which is an accomplishment because he is very sensitive about his feet). Doctor Martinez addressed my concerns, and I will admit that I had more than usual, due to my boy's advancing age. When his lab results came in the next day, she called and went over any abnormal values, giving recommendations and working with me to create a plan that I felt confident about. Everybody in the hospital made sure to say hello to my boy, even though we were very busy, and he happily forgot about me for a few minutes while he received attention from the Client Care team. He enjoyed his visit so much, that I'm a little worried when we go back for his recheck, he will refuse to come home Due to his size, he can at times be a little intimidating. This has been the first Veterinary Hospital I have taken him to, which no one appeared nervous or frightened. He was far more relaxed than ever before because of this. The love that the Northern Oaks team has for the Veterinary field and their craft is far beyond anything I have ever experienced. I am proud to be a part of that, truly happy that I have found such an amazing team to care for my pets medical needs.

First of all, this is a very emotional review. My ferret became ill rather quickly and my mother called so many places. Northern Oaks was the only one who could not only see Spike but it was an immediate appointment. The staff at the facility are so amazing and very generous and considerate of the emotional stress that pet parents go through when their fur babies are sick and it's an emergency situation. My mother and I both pestered them with phone calls and they listened and tried their best to ease our anxieties about the situation. Dr. Byrd and Dr. Ramirez were both wonderful and gave honest opinions about how they felt about the knowns and unknowns of Spike's health situation. My children and I are heartbroken that ultimately there was nothing we could do however I am eased by the way the staff handled the situation and the entire process. The outcome can't always be a miracle cure. The genuine sincerity of the staff was amazing and it was obvious to us that they cared about Spike, too. I can't be any more thankful that they were with us through this terrible time. This is a wonderful facility. If you're looking for someone who is going to treat your pets like they are family, this is where you take them. Yes, vets are expensive, but do yourself a favor and also look into pet insurance, especially if you have an exotic pet.

My dog was infested with fleas no matter we did he continued to itch. I knew he had a few fleas but I did not realize how serious it was. I called that same day and they worked me in. Edison developed a terriable skin infection to the point that he had lacerations. On Friday afternoon The doctor administered an antibiotic shot, prescribed a 1 pill 3 mth increment for fleas. The doctor said, " You're dog will feel relief by tomorrow, as soon as you administer his anti-flea medication." I must be honest I was a little weary that he would feel relief by the next day, but miraculously he did. Today is Sunday and he is a different dog. My dog won't wear a leash. He will weigh down is weight to resist the guidance of a leash. So their staff was so kind to wrap him up with a blanket to cover his lacerations and pick him up and carry him to and fro. They were all so very gentle and kind, from the reception whom tried to keep me calm for the concern of my dog. The staff that cared for his medical health, to the most kindest doctor. Dr. Maria-Diaz she even prescribed Malaseb shampoo which Edison has respond very positive to. My dog was of course a little nervous but was very calm during her visit. Thank you guys so much, for helping my dog. I highly recommend you. Your facility is very clean.

I have been coming here for about 4yrs. The doctors are great, the issue I have had coming here is no communication on billing. This has not only happen once but 3 separate time. The first time the bill was so so high and did so many test that I did not give consent and then charges me. I did let them know moving forward they need to speak to the customer before doing test because some people cant afford thousand of dollars. Then it happened again, I did let them know they needed to be consistent with their communication on pricing. Yet, not once did I get an apology they just took my money I'm not talking about a couple hundred bucks. I have spent thousands of dollars here for all of my dogs. Then they charge you one price one visit then the next time you visit the cost went up another $400-$500 dollars. We I voiced my concerns about the same test and the big difference in price they didn't care they just wanted my money and again no apology for them and their lack of communication. Not only have I experienced it myself first hand but the last time I was there they did it to a poor elder women on a fix income she cried cause she couldn't afford it. I am so beyond disappoint on the behaviors that are happening at this vets office. Do better for your clients that love their animals.

I was real pleased with Dr. Rebekah Byrd knowledge on reptiles and she was able to put my mind at ease after adopting a bearded dragon. Tests were performed quickly and I was able to get an appointment the same day I called. The staff we extremely friendly and helpful. The facility is beautiful and captured Big Al's curiosity. My beardie wanted to look at everything. An update since last year: I had to bring Big Al in after developing yellow fungus which is a terrible thing for a beardie to get. It is very painful and deadly to a reptile. Dr. Byrd could see the problem and she was very conservative with procedures that would not change treatment so as to save me money. Big Al's skin has cleared up remarkably with an anti-fungal spray and I will be giving an oral prescription called itraconazole for the next 6 weeks to kill the fungus internally. Poor Big Al looks at me with sad eyes thinking that I am punishing him. His appetite is good and he is very active. I thank God I did some research when I detected a problem. I did not think it was serious until I did some reading. Any delay getting treatment from a vet would have been a death sentence for Big Al. Dr. Bryd saved my pet and I can not thank her and her staff enough.

From the initial call to all the interactions I had in office, everyone was very kind and understanding. I have high anxiety and, of course, I want to make sure a place that I take my pet to is the right fit for care and treatment. Finding an avian vet can also be very tricky. I was able to be with and do some demonstrated handling of my conure, whom I have trained to make most vet procedures less stressful. I had a little bit of a wait due to an emergency that came in, but I would much rather the emergency was taken care of than anyone worrying about me being there for a general wellness check. I've worked with animals before and completely understand the priority decisions that need to be made. I was updated on everything and thanked for my patience in the meantime. They weren't able to get a blood sample from my bird this time, but that is also understandable. Tiny veins can make it difficult. I'll be back for another go after some healing. The comments from staff on how well my bird did made me feel really good about the amount of training I put in for handling. I highly recommend this vet office. They obviously care about their patients and the humans there.

First of all like to really say that I appreciate the doctor calling and giving me an update on my puppies exam and the results that came from the exam. What I don't appreciate is someone giving me a call multiple times and asking me if I would like to get a vaccine that was due 30 days later. After a long day at work I arrived they had me the invoice and it shows charges at procedures that were not authorized when I drop them off in the morning. Which I contested and asked to be removed and was told that only the manager could remove those charges. I wasn't going to let that slide so after being a little persistent and spending way more time here than I expected I got those charges credited I didn't have to pay anything extra. This isn't the first time that I encounter such high pressure sales tactics like these at this place. Overall it was an OK experience and I would recommend this place if you are willing to open up your wallet and your time 4 people who want to sell you everything including the kitchen sink.

Taking your animals to the vet is never something good. I will say that I felt very disappointed. If just after a checkup before any test knowing that your pet is dehydrated and seeing symptoms if you know your clinic is not going to be able to treat them bc they don’t have an overnight staff why run up the bill. I had to spend over $600 for them to do nothing. They ran a 10 min blood work and decided that I needed to take her to an animal hospital bc she was dehydrated and needed to be somewhere overnight. Like if you can’t fulfill a treatment why make someone spend $600 for my dog to be sent somewhere else. The front staff was very sweet which is why I gave 1 star. but just did not like that the dr wouldn’t look out after one’s pockets. I mean even when she told me she was sending my dog elsewhere she admitted they were expensive. During these times, we are all suffering with economy and saddens me how dr wouldn’t try to help you out. I would never recommend this place nor would return.

We had to put our baby girl Lady down on Friday morning. My fiancé and I were a total wreck. Not only was it 7am and no doctors were in until 8:30-9am they were the closest to us. We told them the situation and one of the lovely nurses called a doctor and she hurried over. They gave us as much time as we needed and were so calm and caring through this hard moment for us. All the nurses and doctors were so nice and sweet while we bawled our eyes out. We had our baby girl cremated in a private cremation and we just received her in a beautiful cherry wood box, a cute clay paw print, and a little paw to plant for flowers to bloom in remembrance. They were fairly priced and for what we got we will always be coming to this vet clinic. We do plan on getting another dog in the near future and this is where we will go from now on! Thank you so much to the doctor and nurses that helped us! Y’all were amazing and we are so grateful! Thank you for being so kind during a very hard situation! ❤️

Switching vets due to the attitude of the front desk staff. When my daughter went to pick up a written prescription for our cat Pepe, she was informed that this would be the last issued because we had not had him in for bloodwork in over a year. A couple months before this issue we had taken him to another vet because we could not him in at Northern Oaks. While there he had labs and bloodwork done. The vet at Northern Oaks accepted this blood work and had just prescribed Gabapentin for him a couple of weeks before. But when my daughter went to get the prescription, the lady was rude to her about it I then called myself to hear what she had to say and she was rude to me as well. I finally got her to admit that she did see that I had emailed it to them. But she acted like the vet had never seen it. Get someone smarter and get someone who actually listens without giving an attitude to a teenage girl and then to her mother who is just trying to explain something. NO THANKS

We recently moved into the area and needed a primary vet for our dogs. I called and spoke to the receptionist and explained that our dog had recently been seen at an emergency clinic and was needing a follow up, but we did not have a primary vet yet. She asked about my dog's history and was able to make an appointment the same afternoon for us. Due to covid, "fur parents" are not allowed inside (which is completely acceptable). I called when I arrived and went over some questions and was directed to which door to bring my dog. After a few minutes, Dr. Martin called me and we spoke for 15 minutes while she gave me a run down on my dog's check up. She answered all my questions and I never felt rushed. She had very positive things to say about my 14 year old lab mix and I look forward to Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital being our primary vet for future needs.

I just called to see if my Blue Quaker could be seen in an emergency situation. He has been seen by the vets at this office so I wanted to see if he could be helped. My 9 month old puppy got to my bird and pulled all his tail feathers out. He is obviously distressed and I am concerned for his wellbeing over the weekend. Tell me why I asked the receptionist if any of the doctors would be able to see him since there are Very limited vets in SA that see or are able to assist with birds. She said no, sorry, you have to wait til Monday. She didn’t even try to find out of one of the vets could help. I work in healthcare and if this was one of my patients they would have never been treated this way. I train my staff to demonstrate empathy and compassion for the people we help. All of this just occurred past 12pm on 12/2/17.

I have been using Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital since I was a teen. Unfortunately my first experience was having to put my elderly dog down (in 1994). Since then I have always used them especially since I had parrots for several years. The staff is friendly (except for one that is helpful but always looks like she's having a bad day) and willing to work with you on your pet needs. I was leery about one of the newest doctors but she has proven she knows what she's doing. They are super at what they do and coming from someone that lives on a budget I cannot argue their prices. You get what you pay for! I have encountered several other people that use Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital and they too have been going for years and had great things to say. Regardless of any bad reviews I highly recommend them.

We have never been to a better veterinarian office. Dr. Sanderson is outstanding - very caring and informative and thorough. We took our parrot to her and were surprised when she actually examined her and looked down her throat. No veterinarian has ever done that before; they would simply trim her beak, nails and wings. She educated us on our parrots diet and explained everything to us. She is a very personable and lovely lady. Also, Carolyn, the tech, is truly an asset to the office. Very friendly. Our parrot does not like anyone but my husband and bites others. Carolyn was able to work with and just hold her-it was shocking! She is a really special young lady. We definitely will return and highly recommend this office. You will be greeted and feel comfortable from the moment you walk in.

If could give this place half or 1/4 of a i would..very dissapointed...i had make an appointment at this facility for groomer appointment for my Puppy.(i was expecting a $20 -$30 bill )..(their only requirement was his vaccines had to be up to date which they are ). My senior cat had stopped eating, when I called her vet of 13 years they told me it would be a month for an appt. I then called Northern Oaks who took her as a new patient the very next day. Sadly, she had cancer. The entire staff was amazing during the palliative care in her last month, they even called me to check in on her. Everyone was very emotionally supportive to me during the euthanasia calls/process. Covid conditions wouldn't allow me to go in with her but they were able to find a work around to let me spend her last waking moments with her. They gave her a sedative shot and returned her to the car before the euthanasia so that her last memory was me petting her to sleep. This will forever be our vet of choice for our dog and any future pets.

This has got to be one of the best veterinarian clinics in San Antonio, because I have never been dissatisfied with a visit. I entrusted Dr. Ramirez with 2 of my cats 2 separate visits, and she made sure that they were healthy and thriving. She is thorough, professional, knowledgeable, and outright caring. Both my cats, who get very nervous easily, were super comfortable with her and looked happy when I went to pick them up. She explained to me in detail what I needed to do to make sure my kitties stayed healthy and she was very patient through all of my questions. I highly recommend this place and so do Arthur and Lily (my fur babies)!! Ask for Dr. Ramirez if you can, because she truly has the magic touch with animals ❤️

  • Charmaine Ganson

I live out in the country and the nearest city is an hour away from me and did not have any good bird vets. Mainly worked on mammals liked dogs, cats, horses, cattle etc. I was referred here to Northern Oaks. My parrot had a tumor and a bad infection from having bitten the tumor. I thought she was dying. I thought we would have to put her down. They gave her antibiotics and then did surgery on her a couple of weeks later after the infection was gone. She is like a young bird again! I have been involved in parrot organizations for years and once I retired out to the country there was nothing out there. I am so glad I was referred to Northern Oaks. They literally saved my parrots life. Thank you for all you did for her.

I recently moved to SA and was recommended to Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital by TWO of my coworkers. I cannot thank the entire staff enough for the care that was given to my sweet pupper, Reyna. Reyna is my 10 year old boxer and up until this month, she had never experienced any health issues. Dr. Maria Martinez-Diaz was professional, answered all of my (many) questions and reassured me that Reyna was in great hands. Reyna was prescribed medicine and is now feeling as happy as ever! Since this visit, we have returned for her annual shots and again Reyna left with a wagging tail and a goodie bag full of treats. I could not be happier with the care that was given. I highly recommend to anyone with a fur-baby!

  • SANDRA VALDIVIEZ

Professional from the moment they answered the phone. Patient, kind, communicative and accommodating while efficiently setting up my payment option with Care Credit. Having seen my dog, Dr Maria Martinez-Diaz quickly set out a game plan and a goal for my dogs treatment, answered all my questions and concerns and within those few minutes I felt extremely confident, happy and relieved that I had come to the right place. I cannot say enough about Dr Maria Martinez-Diaz. Her whole demeanor says she truly enjoys what she does all around and is very knowledge in her field. This was my first visit and I am already making plans to bring BOTH my dogs here from here on out. Great job, great service!!!

  • Melissa T

I took my very ill cockatiel to be seen. After paying $76 just to be seen (which I think is absolutely ridiculous) the vet took all of two seconds to tell me she had pneumonia. Nothing else was explained to me. Like how she could have gotten it or what could be done to prevent a recurrence. I was given two options for care. I chose to do an antibiotic shot. The shot cost less than the fee to be seen. I was also given no after care instructions. I realize ill birds are of the utmost fragility. I just felt like the whole experience was rushed. I should’ve done more research before coming to this vet. I guess it doesn’t matter, my cockatiel died anyway. Disappointed and dissatisfied.

  • Rachel Jastrebski

An awesome experience from start to finish! My family and I just moved to the San Antonio area and did not have a vet yet. The staff at Northern Oaks were friendly, thorough, and welcoming. They got my moms dog seen within a few days of me calling (amazing considering how busy vets are nowadays!) everyone from the front desk, to the nurse tech (Alyssa, I believe) and Dr. Ramirez was so helpful. They answered all my questions and were so personable. My moms dog loved them, even though he wasn’t feeling the greatest. Their compassion for animals and owners is obvious. Thank you for making our move to the area that much better with your great services and friendly staff!

  • Anh Vu

Highly recommend this hospital for guinea pigs owners. I got to work with Dr. Byrd, a fantastic and compassionate vet. She took care of one of my pigs for her end-of-life care and went above and beyond for both my baby’s comfort and our loss. We had another one see her for a breathing problem and she provided great, reasonable recommendations for work ups and follow ups, that baby is still going strong. We had to drop this little one off for imaging and the staff took great day-care of her, we’re very flexible with my work schedule for drop off and pick up. We have moved to MN for work but if we were to stay in SA, we would never go anywhere else!

  • Holly Porter

Thank you Dr. Byrd!! My dog, Lily had a seizure out of the blue at three years old! Dr. Byrd was wonderful with Lily and with US!! We were very scared , as this was new to us. She fully explained everything to us and she helped us to understand how and why seizures can start at this age. Dr. Byrd put us at ease and gave us the confidence to handle the seizures when and if they occurred again. We did have to help Lily through another one but we were educated and prepared. Dr. Byrd prescribed medication and again made sure that we understood everything about it. She followed up several times! Thank you again Dr. Byrd!!! Lily loves you and so do we!

  • Jo Ann Herrera

Dr. Byrd has been taking care of my two chihuahuas since they were 8 weeks old. They are now nearly 9 years old. Like most dog parents, there's nothing I wouldn't do for these two little girls. Last week, Roxie (who will eat anything that doesn't eat her) wouldn't eat. She didn't eat for a day and a half and was just acting different. I called on Saturday and within a couple of hours, Dr. Byrd had seen my baby and relieved all my fears. By the next night, Roxie was pretty much normal. To squeeze my dog in, to take the time to calm me down, and to cure my dog ....priceless. Yea, Dr. Byrd and Northern Oaks Clinic!

  • C Benn

Just 4 days after moving to San Antonio, my corgi got really sick and I needed to find a vet ASAP. I found Northern Oaks and I couldn't be happier with the care he received. Everyone there is so kind, caring and compassionate! There were able to see him within an hour of me calling and after running bloodwork & taking x-rays, had a diagnosis and a care plan in place. I feel so blessed to have found them because moving to a new city and not knowing where to take my beloved pets, finding someplace that I felt comfortable with was huge! Thank you all for taking such good care of Toby!

  • Wha Gregory

Dr. Rebekah Byrd saved our bird Cherry’s life and I’m forever grateful. A week ago, we had no clue what was wrong when our bird suddenly started seizing multiple times a day; the situation was grave. A quick evaluation and Dr. Byrd decided to aggressively treat her with antibiotics and calcium EDTA chelation therapy, and a week later, Cherry’s back to herself. She’s still undergoing treatment, but it was Dr. Byrd’s quick thinking and expertise that brought our baby back from the brink! Dr. Byrd is an exceptional Avian vet and I trust her implicitly. She is hands down - THE BEST!!

  • Jaclyn Aaron

This is our regular vet but had an emergency situation. The staff went above and beyond for my dog. He cut his leg pretty good and needed stitches. I went in without an appointment with the hopes they could help him out. They squeezed us in without an appointment about an hour before they closed. The staff could have easily sent me to an emergency vet, but they took the time to stitch my pup up. Not only that they never made me feel like I was an inconvenience for them staying past closing. I can't thank the office staff, vet techs, and vet enough for being so fantastic.

  • Debate Dad

The service was pretty good but I stopped going there after my cat had an infestation of tape worms. I took the live worms to the clinic in ajar to show them and ask for medicine. I was told I could not have any medication until a lab test was done. They made me pay for a lab test and then the lab test reported no parasites. found. I complained and brought them a piece stool with the worms crawling all over it and then they allowed me to purchase the tape worm drug. I was pretty pissed off when they made me waste money for a bogus lab test with bad results.

  • Mrs_Peeps

We needed emergency care, because our female Akita, was very ill, and I suspected pyometra. Time was of the essence. Our regular vet was overbooked for several days, so they recommended Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital. The entire staff at Northern Oaks was wonderful. They got us in immediately, and performed the emergency surgery right away. Everyone there was professional, yet warm, caring and kind. We felt very comfortable leaving our precious girl wit them. We would not hesitate to trust them with the care of any of our dogs.

  • Bekka Valenciano

My husband's black roughneck monitor had an injury in his tank, and we brought him in for an exam. The staff was very helpful and forthcoming with cost and procedure for the visit. We were able to drop him off, and the staff contacted me with updates. Upon pickup, the staff showed us how to handle Blue and administer his medications. The staff showed experience with this type of animal and made Blue comfortable for his stay and gave us reassurance that he was in good hands. We will definitely go back for any of our exotic animal needs.

Went in today with our young parrots to do a wellness check and establish care with the clinic for our birds. All around GREAT experience with Dr Sutter as well as all the staff. Dr Sutter really spent a lot of time not only answering questions, but also guiding us and teaching us things to keep our birds healthy and happy. Explained every part of the exam and was absolutely wonderful with their interactions with our birds. Very highly recommend this clinic and staff!! We’ve already booked next year’s annuals with them.

We recently had to say goodbye to a dear pet after 15 years of love and companionship. Dr. Byrd and her staff made this terrible day as wonderful as it could have been. Their kindness, care and compassion not only for my family, but for my dog, were unmatched by anything other service that I've ever received. The passing was gentle and calm and the care shown by everyone made the experience much less painful. Thank you for everything that you all do to care for these pets and their people, you make all the difference♡

  • Lorelle

My beloved Pit Bull Ella was in real trouble. She had been bitten by a snake, and was in horrible pain. We had never been seen at Northern Oaks before, and I was so worried they would not be able to see us on an emergency basis. However, they squeezed us in and cared for her the very same day! Dr. Byrd was SO kind, she talked me through every little step. Ella was out the same afternoon, and is now happy and healthy! Oh Thank you Dr. Byrd and the entire staff at Northern Oaks! Life Savers!! Amazing!!!

I’ve been taking my dog Cooper here since he was a puppy! It’s been about 3 years and I’ve never been disappointed. Friendly staff and great grooming as well! Dr. Martínez is always very welcoming and caring for all her patients. Her love for animals is what makes her go above and beyond for all of those that need her care! Wouldn’t change her for anything! I’m always at peace of mind when I drop off my dog because I know everyone takes good care of Cooper! 100% recommend!

Met with Dr Bird today and was pleased with the overall visit. My only issue was with the Rx cost for the apparent allergic conditions my pet is having. It’s hard for me to believe that there isn’t a generic Rx for allergies after all these years of treating this condition in other animals. An alternative Rx wasn’t offered. The cost (per pill) is approx $4 per pill. I wish I’d have researched the drug and compared it ingredient available over the counter for humans.

After 30 years our vet retired so I was nervously looking for another vet to trust with my dogs care. I just had my one dogs teeth cleaned, and a tooth removed. My dog has ALOT of anxiety but they were very patient with him! They seem to have all the best equipment and info and they were great with my phone calls and questions. Soon I'll bring my other rescue dog here for his vaccinations. So far I love this vet, Dr Maria Martinez and all were great!

  • Anna Herrera

The vet seemed somewhat knowledgeable, but very impersonal! We had to wait a bit for her to come back after she examined our baby, and she was still chewing as if she grabbed a bite to eat before coming back in our room. She and her assistant did not seem to be in sync either. The office staff in the front was wonderful and friendly. Very welcoming but it is the care for our little family member that is a priority. So we will not be going back

I've been taking my babies to Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital for the last 15 years or so, and I always feel safe and secure about my visits. The staff and doctors are both caring and knowledgeable. When I lost my first baby girl to heart disease at the age of eleven, the staff members were more than compassionate. I moved several years ago and do not live as close to them as I used to, but I stayed with them because I trust them.

Took my Thor after going to another clinic since we just moved to the neighborhood send my Thor got ahold of some Turkey bones on Thanksgiving. The staff loved my Thor and he loved them back. Felt so comfy, employees, techs and doc we're so Awesome. I have found THOR his go to clinic. I recommend this clinic. We will be going back for a check up and regular visits, can't wait. Thor can't wait either.

Everyone at this practice is very patient kind and knowledgeable. Went to see Dr. Byrd 10 years ago with our birds and now came back with two baby kittens. Everyone has been very informative in helping me learn the best way to take care of my kittens. I look forward to my visits there and talking with the entire staff. They definitely take their time with your pets and answer all your questions.

Shamefully I hadn’t taken my dogs to the vet for a couple of years. I wanted to take them to get their shots & vaccines up to date as well as make sure they’re healthy. We saw Dr Byrd who was very sweet & had no judgment about the gap in which they had been to the vet. She was patient & kind with my Doberman & truly seemed to care. Need to take my Rottie next but am glad I found a place to go.

  • Emily Stevens

Thanks to Dr. Byrd and her lovely staff for the love and care they always provide. Over the past 9 years we have had such wonderful and professional care for our pets including regular check ups, boarding, odd emergency visits to the recent passing of one of our dogs. The staff was so sensitive and respectful when I picked up the ashes. We are thankful for each of the Northern Oaks employees.

  • Wendy Green

Dr. Byrd and her staff are amazing and especially during this crazy time of COVID. They are doing everything in their power to take care of all the animals in their care and keep the staff safe. We have a new puppy and while we miss going in and seeing the staff interact with her when she gets her vaccinations, we know she is in the best hands! If you are looking for a vet, look no further!!

  • lisa gulin

I had an emergency with my fur baby and the staff took my baby in right away. It went quickly and tested him and worked on him until a more affordable solution was found. He came home and is feeling so much better! Thank you all for your care and fast acting protocols for my Lucky Boy! We so appreciate you! DR. Byrd is amazing! The whole staff is awesome and caring! Lisa and Lucky Gulin

Absolutely LOVE the staff here! We have never had a problem here and our dog smiles so big when we pull up! For anyone who has a pet, they know that it is VERY important and a good indication that it's a good place! Be aware of your animal does NOT like the vet you take them to. I'm so happy that is not the case here, we love them and they love their clients and their pet babies!

  • Nick Sharpe

Dr. Sanderson made a very sad day as warm and comfortable as she could for us. We recently had to put down our fur baby Mooch. She truly has a passion for animals and their care. The service we were given was unlike anything we’ve received from other clinics in the past. We look forward to continuing to take our other pets to Northern Oaks and seeing our favorite Vet! Thank you!

  • Elizabeth Swendson

Entire staff kind, professional, smiles, and meticulous in examination and explanations. Dr. Byrd went over and beyond to help me help Rainie. She understood my desire to have Rainie continue pain free as a therapy dog and offered to help me find a place appropriate to her abilities. Rainie is special and special needs dog and my love of her was understood and respected.

We came to Northern Oaks Bird & Animal Hospital as first time pet owners over 6 years ago. They have a fantastic team of vets, techs, and staff. From wellness, emergencies, grooming, and boarding, they’ve been there for us. Despite us moving across town, they are still our vet. Our miniature schnauzers, Luke and Leia, wouldn’t have it any other way!

  • Steve Benson

This rating is about our first visit as a new patient. Brought my dog in for a second opinion about an aliment. They were very courteous and professional from check-in to check-out. Their diagnosis was far more expensive and I feel the treatment recommended will be more successful. Based on just one visit I would recommend them to my friends!

  • Hallie Carroll

took my 6 month old kitten for her first visit. The staff and Dr. are wonderful. I am new in town and had just adopted the kitten from ACS. They took time to get to know my kitten and welcome me to the area. The Dr. provided a cost estimate on certain proceedures in the exam room and allowed me to decide if I wanted the treatments completed.

  • Jeff Carawan

The attention and care we received was exceptional. I have no doubts that out cat experienced the best care available. Great follow up inquiries from support staff and the vets. Took additional calls after visit. Services were reasonably priced with a very friendly staff and clean facility. I recommend them to all of our friends and family.

  • Lacey Kornicki

I've been taking my pets to Northern Oaks Bird and Animal Hospital for many years. They've been very professional and treat your pets as if they were their own. Their staff absolutely does care about the well being of not only your pets but you as the owner too. Despite the ongoing pandemic their service has not faltered in my opinion.

  • Leah Avant

I can always trust on Dr. Byrd, Dr. Martinez, Dr. Ramirez, and staff with the care of my pets. Lori, the groomer, does a fabulous job grooming Luna, my shih tzu. They are always up to date on the latest veterinary medicine. They give Luna extra love while she's there and that makes me feel great knowing she is there. Thank you NOBAH!

  • Ashley Burton

I had never been to this vet before, but I found a stray kitten on the side of the road and I knew he needed attention ASAP. Northern Oaks was able to get me a next day appointment. They were so friendly and knowledgeable. They took great care of the little kitten, and the price was fantastic. Thank you Northern Oaks team!!!

  • Candyce Slusher

We were in emergent need of a vet who would see our enormous sulcata tortoise, and they were able to fit us in same day. The whole team was professional and kind. Dr. Ramirez called twice to follow up and gave us some good information on his care. What a compassionate group of animal lovers! Our shelled fella has a new vet!

  • Deborah Elwood

My pups are a little over six years old, and I’m very glad I followed an acquaintance's recommendation to try out Northern Oaks. I've been there ever since and recommend them whenever the topic arises. The staff is always professional and friendly, but most importantly, it's obvious that they truly care about my fur babies.

  • Abby Baza

My leopard gecko needed to get a few abscesses removed and Dr. Ramírez was excellent in advising a plan of care and instructing me on after care. I was able to make an appointment the same day I called as well as getting my gecko in for his procedure. I feel like my reptile babies are in great hands here at northern oaks!

  • Jasmin Ramos

Amazing facility and staff. First time visit, I had to bring in my little girl Peely, she was in labor and could not deliver on her own and needed an emergency c section. Grateful for the staff and Dr.Ramirez for their professionalism. They responded so quickly and ensured Peely was taken care of, Highly recommend!

  • Melissa Cardenas

The veterinarians and all the staff are WONDERFUL!!! They always take great care of our baby boy. They call me to update me and answer all the questions I have. They do extra and spend as much time as needed to help. The groomer Laurie is great as well, she is the one we trust with our dog. I appreciate all you do!

  • Cloe Rocha

Dr. Ramírez took amazing care of my cat, who had to have almost all her teeth removed. Dr. Ramírez has the magic touch with animals; I knew my kitty was receiving the best care. When I picked up my cat, she looked just fine, and she was up and about very soon after, which tells me that she was well taken care of.

  • Marcos Odio

Always great service from over the phone, to when you walk in to the reception/waiting areas. Also all the techs and doctors who have helped our girls through all of our visits have been pleasant, caring, informative and very helpful in keeping our girls healthy. I highly recommend their services!

  • anne turner

they have been the best for Mel, my dog. She needed some surgical procedures, Dr. Byrd explained everything to me and allowed me to be a part of the decision. All the personnel are not only knowledgeable but so friendly to my dog. For me their hospital is near me which is a real plus.

  • Sylvia M Gonzalez

Dr. Byrd and the entire staff at Northern Hills are excellent. I took my chicken for an exam (cracked beak). Everyone was very attentive and had excellent attention to detail. This is the second hen under Dr. Byrd's care. We are very satisfied. Thank you. Sylvia, plus Potato & Peep

  • Jeffrey C

Dr. Sutter and her vet tech (sorry, I didnt catch her name) were very attentive and personable. I could tell that they cared about the well-being of my dogs even though they were only there for preventative care and a few questions. Layla and Juniper are very happy with their vet!

  • Bellathecat16

Very friendly staff. Front office was extremely pleasant. The technician was excellent. She is very good with kids and animals (my daughter and her cat were very nervous and the tech put them both at ease). The doctor was awesome as well. Love this place.
