Great find. We were visiting Portland and stopped in very hungry one morning and ordered half the pastry menu. The quiche was the best I’ve ever had and I loved how hearty of a portion it was. I’ve been a bread baker for 10 years with a considerable amount of experience in laminated doughs. I really enjoyed the dough here, as it’s used in the morning bun and other pastries. The croissant seemed overproofed, to me, because the croissants didn’t have an intense crisp on the exterior I often look for. However, I loved the darker bake. Brings forward better flavor. The almond croissant was conceptually really nice but unfortunately the filling was a miss for me. Really strong alcohol vanilla flavor. I LOVED the ground almonds, though, I just think Amaretto liquor or a good quality almond extract would make them next level. The morning bun was good but the amount of zest seemed safe to me which makes sense because I think it’s baked into the dough rather than traditionally buttered and tossed in an orange sugar. Still pretty good though. I had just had one at Tartine last month so it’s hard to compete with that! The woman serving us was lovely and told us when morning buns were right out of the oven so we could get one. Coffee was awesome. Will definitely be in again next time we’re in Portland :)
Ken's was a dream. We went there twice on our short trip to Portland because the pastries and sandwiches were so intoxicating. I didn't love the almond croissant but the goat cheese and leek one was incredible. The ham one was fine but nowhere near as good. The pizza sandwich special was decent but pretty small for the price - you get two slivers of bread with marinara/toppings on them and it kind of shredded my mouth. Loved the croque madame. Be prepared to stand in line and wait a while after ordering. Their coffee was pretty mediocre.

I had to run to an appointment on 23rd shortly after I arrived and they got the food to me really quickly, I know because I watched the time really closely. Will definitely be coming back and ordering different items. I could tell the bread and cheese were really high quality. Croque monsieur ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - the bread was delicious - it was so creamy - perfectly toasted Ham and cheese sandwich ⭐⭐⭐✨ - loved how much meat it had - loved the cheese. - really good bread - I'm kind of picky with deli meat but this ham was pretty ok! - was just ordinary, but it is a plain dish, but my partner loved it, especially with the pickles Chocolate croissant ⭐⭐✨ - wasn't a huge fan of the chocolate used inside, tasted a little cheap - was cold
Ken wrote the book on baking bread and I’m glad to see that his artisan bakery is the real deal. Everything here is best in class, from the focaccia on the pizza sandwich, to the flaky croissants, the luscious fruit tarts, and especially the signature sourdough and country boules. If you love bread, this is an absolute must whenever you’re in Portland.

We have visited this bakery several times and have always been impressed with the pastries and macarons. The sandwiches, salads, and soups are good as well but are a little small and overpriced, so don't go expecting a large, satisfying meal.

Canelés are hard to find in the United States. If a bakery offers them, I will travel great distances to get them. That's how I found Ken's, and was delighted by all of it. Canelés were perfect, as was the Morning Bun and the Baguette. We will definitely make the trip back to them, a lot...

Ken's is a notch above most local bakeries. They have a gorgeous dining space and kitchen. The pastry case is other-worldy. The quality of their local and seasonal offerings is much appreciated. I look forward to every opportunity I have to stand in the short or long lines to get a taste of something special. Thank you to the staff for making this place a pleasure. NW 21st Ave and its surrounding neighborhoods are very lucky to have this business among their most cherished.
Ciabatta roll is phenomenal, crispy thin crust and soft inside. Croissant and baguette are also very good. Walnut roll is a little bit too hard for me, very chewy. Pastries are good but not very impressive. Whatever how are the foods taste here, you can tell they use really good ingredients. The bread doughs are shining inside and full of grain aroma, fruits on pastries are really fresh and chocolate has a nice flavor of cocoa that will last in your mouth for a while.
Great food , great neighborhood, great service. Highly recommended that you pick up several loaves of their Country Blonde. I make this at home so looking forward to comparing.

Food : I found this to be just alright and quite frankly a bit over-hyped as well as overpriced. We took the goat cheese leek croissant based on the reviews, but it was too buttery/salty for my taste, so I could barely finish it. Service : We went there at 8:30 am on a Saturday morning, there was a long line but it was a fast moving crowd, so we even found seating indoors. The staff were friendly.
Delightful bakery with decent prices. I got a Croque Monsieur, a Raspberry Escargot, a Rhubarb Macron, and a Palmier on this particular trip and all were delectable. The pastry is flaky and buttery. The sandwich comes out hot and well balanced with the pickels and pickled red onion on the side. The prices on whole loaves of bread is very fair for the quality. Get here early!!!
My friend bakes here and let me know. I live at the coast, but make weekly trips to Portland. I had the quiche with bacon, chocolate croissant and meadow something herbal tea. I'm so glad I stopped by. Scrumptious! And so many more things to try. I ate it before I remembered to take photos. Oh and everyone was so nice. It must be a happy place to work.
We returned twice to this quality bakery. Our French guest was very particular about her breads. She was delighted to find Ken’s. We specifically chose a hearty whole grain walnut bread. The addition of walnuts is generous, much to my liking. It’s not a sweet bread, so useful for savory meals. We sampled a beautiful individual, gorgeous plum tart.
Everything I expected and more. Travelled from Oklahoma to try and was very very pleased. Thank you so much.

This place has been in my list for a while and I finally have a chance to try it. The best croissant I have ever try. I got ham and thyme croissant, chocolate croissant, chocolate cookie and blood orange tart. They were so delicious. The crust was crisp and full of flavors. Definitely come back for the croissants
We stopped by here before going to the zoo on a Friday mid-morning. It was nice and bustling with the smell of fresh bread and pastries. The front cashier where we placed our order and paid was very friendly and efficient. We got a few tarts and a small loaf of bread and everything was delicious.
This bakery is where I can get French quality croissant. I recommend getting the plain croissant. I liked it the most out of all other menus. In my opinion, better than the leek one. My favorite croissant bakery in Portland. Their carrot cake is also really good.
Good coffee, great desserts! We loved the morning bun, it’s pretty much a giant croissant.

Ken's deserves all the hype it gets. Been here a couple times and the pastries were delicious every time. On of my favorites are the fresh fruit tarts that change out depending on seasonal fruit. The line looks long but it moves quickly and service is fast.
The morning bun was simply divine. Will be coming back here regularly.

Visited in Aug 2023 A very nice breakfast place to start your day at. The croissants are quite good and I’d recommend ppl to try 2-3 types. The chocolate profiteroles were also quite good. Definite recommendation for ppl visiting and staying in Portland.

Dropped in and grab a love of the Country Blonde and have been enjoying it. Thought there would be a bit more complexity in the flavour though. Hope to return and try some of the sweet treats and other breads they prepare.
Stopped in for a quick grab and go breakfast. I ordered the bacon quiche, a butter croissant and a vanilla latte. Holy moly their vanilla latte is exquisite! The baked goods were really good too! Service was very friendly.
Great selection of pastries, cakes and bread prepared at onsite bakery. There are plenty of places to sit down and enjoy your food. We ordered different croissants and cakes and all of them were fresh and delicious
FANTASTIC The #2 "Brown" (pictured) was one of the best breads I've honestly ever had... ever. Everything was extremely fresh and tasted excellent. …
I am fairly certain that the walnut loaf is the best bread I have ever put in my mouth. Perfection.
