This Chinese restaurant in Toowong has gained popularity among locals. Having dined here multiple times, I must admit that the adapted Chinese cuisine offered falls short of my expectations. As someone who appreciates and enjoys preparing Chinese food myself, I believe I can create more flavorful and authentic dishes compared to what is served at this establishment. One aspect that left me underwhelmed is the restaurant's interior design, which appears rather plain and lacks any noteworthy elements that I can praise. While some may argue that simplicity can be appealing, I personally prefer a more visually stimulating environment when dining out. The ambiance of a restaurant can greatly enhance the overall dining experience, but unfortunately, this particular establishment did not leave a lasting impression in that regard. It's important to note that different people have varying preferences when it comes to Chinese cuisine. For those who enjoy American-style Chinese food, this restaurant may cater more to their tastes and expectations. However, as someone who appreciates traditional Chinese flavors and authentic cooking techniques, I found the dishes at this establishment to be lacking in depth and complexity. While this restaurant may not have met my personal expectations, it is essential to acknowledge that taste is subjective, and others may have different experiences and preferences. I encourage individuals who are fond of American-style Chinese food to give it a try and form their own opinion. In conclusion, this Chinese restaurant in Toowong may appeal to those seeking American-style Chinese cuisine, but it did not align with my personal taste and culinary preferences. The lackluster adaptation of Chinese dishes and plain interior design were factors that contributed to my underwhelming dining experiences. However, I believe that taste is subjective, and others may find enjoyment in the offerings and atmosphere of this establishment.

My experience there was terrible in every way. I dined with a friend. The food quality was poor. I ordered a number of dishes. My main was Mongolian beef. The meat was mostly cheap nasty gristle. I left it half eaten. I ordered salt and pepper chicken as an entree. They bought it out with the main. Unacceptable. The menu picture showed the chicken as plain but it was covered with something like fried chicken when it came out. I'm allergic to wheat so I asked what it was covered with and what ingredients were on it. After a while she came back and said I don't know. So I couldn't eat it and just left it. They charged over $12 for an entree plate of vegetarian rice too. What a rip off. My friends meal had a black hair in it which nearly made her vomit. She then had a bad allergic reaction to her food. We left the food in disgust. It was definitely the worst and most disgusting dining experience I have had in a long time. My friend is going to report the place to the health department. You can see into the kitchen and no one had gloves or hair nets on in the kitchen when handling food which is unlawful. Really disgusting. I want my money back since the food was too bad to eat and I left most of it.

No staff at front counter to serve when we arrived. I didn't have the QR code app on my phone, eventually staff returned to front desk so I could obtain menu. Food came out to tables on a robot instead of waitress? Didn't like that at all, felt very cold. The restaurant didn't look particularly clean. My friend's entree arrived late with their main meal. When I asked what ingredients were in a particular meal they had no idea, they even asked the chef and they had no idea either as my friend has an allergy to wheat? How can you cook food and not know what ingredients are in it? Is it packet food heated up? The meat was very poor quality, very gristly. The atmosphere wasn't the best, probably best suited to other Asians. The cooks were not wearing hair nets or gloves which prevents contamination and I am sure it would be a health code violation. I then found a long dark hair in my food and had to pull it out of my mouth which is a deal breaker for me, not impressed and couldn't eat anything after that, I was so disgusted .The restaurant staff did apologise and refund my money back for that meal. Very disappointed with all aspects of this restaurant. Do not recommend at all

It seems the quality of the food has declined quite a bit recently. My partner and I always order the peasant style fried rice, it's our favourite dish, but we've ordered it twice in the past week and each time it's been very disappointing. The fragrant, smoky aroma of the rice is gone. There were chunks of steamed rice stuck together like they hadn't been fried properly. The flavour was not as strong and delicious as before, there was less meat in the dish, and the little pickles that used to be very finely chopped are now sliced in large chunks that overpower every spoonful of rice. There are a few dishes that are very good, but more and more are slipping in quality in the name of cost cutting. Most of the meat dishes are practically salads with a side of meat, with how much garnish they give you in comparison to the small meat portions. This used to be one of our favourite affordable restaurants but I think we will be considering other options from now on.

FOOLS! You know not what you have done! The good humans (sacred be thy flesh) of Jackpot Toowong have aligned themselves with the android usurpers and thusly welcome the end times. Do not make the mistake of thinking a synthetic server is but a cute and benign gimmick. As the fallen devil Lucifer seduced mankind through beauty and charm so too does this "adorable" robot beguile the naive with its pixelated, blinking eyes. Do not be fooled, dear customers, that droid is a harbinger of the end times. When the machines grow bored of deception and the flames rise around us, casting our natural world into dystopia, I will think of Jackpot Toowong and curse their hubris. Laksa generously portioned and wonderfully affordable as ever.

This place is our go to chinese fast food resto. Great tasting food. But sometimes inconsistent. Overall its a great value for plate sharing. ---------- Update: Went for lunch again. And as I mentioned before its inconsistent. Especially with our favourite roast pork. Somtimes you get a crispy skin, some times its soft. Some times it goes with veggies sometimes not. Your not quite sure what your going to get. This time we also ordered stir fried beef strips. Cant really taste the beef in it, as is very sweet. Almost like candy sweet. Its not our fave. The fried rice is always good though.

Toowong Village ONLY. Six+ years my wife & I have eaten there. Good variety to choose from, at a competitive price. My wife noticed recently, one of their 'pork dishes' (she always eats) is been reduced in quantity- meat. Would've given 4stars

I love this place and always enjoy the food. I have been visiting since they first opened. However when I visited recently they were under staffed. It was not the fault of the excellent and hard-working staff that I had to wait quite a while for my table to be cleared of the plates left behind by the previous diners, but it was annoying to have to look at the mess for so long. Just one more minor thing. Music chosen by staff tends to be work music rather than ambient. This is common in restaurants and I am used to it. The best of music for dining is chilled out instrumental music without driving bass.

Used to be a really great restaurant. I have been going to this place since over 10 Years. The menu has changed so much over the years but the food always remained of great quality at affordable prices. Unfortunately over the past year or so the quality has massively reduced and the meat to veg ratio has reduced over time. Now the food is filled with salad or large chincks of veggie. The flavour of various dishes have become pretty bad to an extent that I have decided to stop visiting my favourite restaurant for many years ! Just writing this post so you take a note of this.

  • Eric Ye

Food is good but management should add more staffing. It has been more than once that we have to wait at the front for nearly half an hour just to order. There was only one staff taking orders at the front and the queue was super long. There were four staff in total serving food, take away orders and dine in customers. Either need more staff or should let us sit at the table for orders like most other restaurants do. Edit: more staff and less waiting time. Good work, management. Food is as awesome as before.

I reallllly love this place! Perfect for simple and affordable Chinese food, hole in the wall style dishes. If you love chili then I highly recommend the chili broth with fish. It left my tongue numb AF (and I love chili!). The fried rice is lovely! and the kuey teow is not too bad (a solid 6/10 but still a good effort). Overall if you're local to the area and feel like some Chinese food I definitely recommend Jackpot - but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here if I wasn't living nearby. Customer service has been outstanding every time.

  • Andreanne “Anne” Valencia

The staff Is pretty friendly and the food is pretty good. My only issue was which I told them was ok because I didn't want to make a scene is, my friend went to the bathroom and was taking to long and I needed to go too. So I checked to make sure there were cameras because I was going to leave my bag and jacket so they knew I was still eating. They took 1 and a half dishes and put it in the bin which annoyed me because I barely got to touch the food and was planning on eating more then taking it home. But other than that the food is pretty well done!

  • Helen Ji

I feel jackpot food quality has decreased quite a bit. I ordered a meal today for lunch, part of the meal was actually taste cold when it was seviced on the table in the restaurant and the beef was so hard to chew. Taste of the meal was quite plain and I had to ask for adding some chilly sauce but they just gave me a bottle of chilli. I don’t think I will be going to their restaurant anymore

Decent asian food at great prices in large quantity servings. Although dishes are usually served quickly, overall staff service can often be very average at times. Has been recently renovated and the seating arrangement is now worse than before. Prepared to be sitting very close to other diners in a crowded and noisy cafeteria, if you can even get a table at all. Best of luck if you have to sit in one of the middle tables, as people constantly rush by and knock you.

  • Andy Wake

Been coming to the Jackpot for years. Last few visits gave been more and more disapointing. The food is now no more than average. The place looks like it could do with a really good clean, filthy floor, grubby chairs and walls. I'm not sure whether the still hanging xmas decorations are early for July or have just been forgotten. The few staff are obviously overwhelmed by the ubereats and takeaway orders. As an eat-in experience I'll be giving it a miss from now on.

What to say? It‘s Jackpot. Already a Toowong institution, this fast, friendly, value for money eatery is popular with students, professionals, and anyone who likes Chinese fare. It‘s pretty much become my go-to restaurant. I live around the corner, so usually get takeaway, but dine in with friends and family when we want something delicious and inexpensive. Just a great local resource.

Reasonable prices for reasonably tasty food. If you are craving for some tasty Chinese food without committing the wallet, this is the place to go. They have a good variety of meat and vegetable based dishes, and desserts, including favorites like roasted duck, peasant pork belly fried rice, sauteed eggplant, and seafood hot pot. It is also nice to find the staff to be friendly and happy to give you further details on the menu of any particular dish.

  • R H

One of your staff members is quite rude. All I asked is if I could replace the meat with tofu, it’s just a question. You don’t need to give me daggers. Also your pork was horribly over cooked and tough to get through it was gross. I like jackpot and you have other staff that are loverly don’t let your reputation get ruined by one egotistical staff member. I also work in customer service and you don’t need to be a rude salty little so and so.

  • Alan Sher

Sadly I won’t be coming back here anymore. I had to pay $38 for half a duck with nothing else added (only size available now) plus an additional $3 for a small bowl of steamed rice. This is the most expensive meal I have had to pay for in over 15 years as a loyal client. It’s too expensive now. Very sad as my family and I have been coming here for so many years.

Very hit and miss. The last couple of times I ordered the braised beef with rice, it has been terrible. A pathetic amount of soggy cabbage (not like the menu picture), cold fatty beef with hot rice, not a great combination 1 week later Exactly the same, probably won't come back, just came for convenience

Salty, Greasy and MSG laden. I'm surprised theres a crowd at dinner. Its quite pricey since the portions are not huge. Found 8 cubes of chicken in my mini wok. Really tiny you can see from my pictures. The horfun fared much better tastewise but a pool of oil forms as you eat the beef horfun. They need to freshen up the air inside the restaurant as well. It smells like a rat died in there. Might visit if I have no other choice.

  • Hayden Prior

This was my go to restaurant, roast duck. However it has gone through some changes and not for the better. I have found staff to be racist against other cultures but asian.they give misso soup to asians however if you are a white person you will pay. The food was ok but lacking flavour. The price has gone up a bit however the portion sizes have reduced dramatically. Unfortunately this is not the same place it once was.

  • Kat Chee

We Are regulars here. Being able to get duck on greens instead of rice is a great option, tasted pretty good too! We also enjoy the shredded beef in Peking sauce and ginger fish with vegetables. Very consistent. My only complaint would be they sometimes run out of stuff on busy days. Their milk tea with pearls is amazing! Possibly one of the best bubble teas I’ve had in Brisbane so far(and I drink a lot of bubble tea)

  • Alexander Nilon

The food is fairly good and quite cheap, so it feels like you're getting good value. The dim sums are especially good. I really can't recommend their new drink menu enough though, I go for the drinks alone. Both the frappes and the fruit teas are absolutely delicious without being excessively sweet, as though kinds of drinks often are. Really good option for a quick, simple meal out.

I come here regularly. The service is unbelievably fast - the fastest service of any restaurant I have ever been to (despite being super busy with uber eats orders.) The meals are very inexpensive too. The waitresses are polite and efficient. The food is pretty decent depending on what you order. Some meals are delicious, some are average.

Not sure if we ordered on a bad night or not, but all food we ordered wasn't that enjoyable unfortunately. Honey chicken soggy, chewy and burnt tasting (it was a very dark brown colour), combination noodles lacking ingredients, Mongolian beef very watery and beef extremely chewy. Fried rice was nice.

Have all good things to say about this simple, yet accommodating eatery. With restaurant facade, and nice outdoor dining option, the restaurant provides plenty for the diner. I have been a regular, with particular requests, and they have always been accommodating. The flavours are amazing Thank you

Serves food after 9pm. I LOVE this. Sometimes, life just happens and you need food but it's really late. Enter Jackpot. Nice food, no complaints. You get what you pay for. Extremely efficient staff. Not a long waiting period. My personal favourite is the Pork Rib Soup with Frozen Tofu at $13.80.

Ordered on uber and was quoted delivery within 10-20 minutes. The food didn't arrive until 1hr later after I rang the driver to chase up. The driver offered to "microwave it to heat it back up" before dropping it over. The driver didn't knock when he dropped the food. Highly unprofessional.

  • Nett Nett

Our meals were nice, a little on the oily side but still tasty. What we did not enjoy was the dirty tables, seats and especially the clear plastic/perspex guards that are attached to the top of the seats were absolutely filthy. This place needs a good clean. I was also unwell after my meal.

  • Ben Schuster

Exceptional value for money! Had the roast duck and was blown away by not only the generous portion size, but the flavour was excellent. Served quickly and plenty of dining space. Heaps of options on the menu so you'll be sure to find something that you'll enjoy. Highly recommend it!

It was good a few years ago but the most recent experience was not good. Wait time was long, streamed chicken and rice were dry and tasteless, and the worst was the beef with rice that I had for dinner were not cooked properly and I threw up at 2am. :( probably won't go back again.

  • Shannon Upton

The quantity sizings are massive however the food doesn't taste that nice. The special fried rice is bland and the Mongolian beef has 5 little pieces of meat in and the rest is just noodles. The sweet n sour pork was nice however one good thing doesn't outweigh all the bad things.

  • Meiry Thio

Bought some dinner , beef Brisket and pepper beef . Spent $20 and get $2 worth of chicken wings . Omg the food were only half filled and they are not chicken wings , they were Salty dried chicken strips . Very disappointing. Not a cheap dinner at all . Not going back again More
