This park is amazing! I highly recommend going here either by yourself or with your family. There's a little bit of everything for you or the family to do! In one half of the park there's: Tennis & pickleball courts; soccer & baseball fields; A bathroom and drinking fountain an AWESOME obstacle course and pull up bars; a large swing set with (10) regular swings and (4) small child swings; A decommissioned steam locomotive to look at and walk into A good sized park for the kids; In the other half of the park there's: A medium sized lake with fountains where you can fish A long walking/ biking trail An amphitheatre with a beautiful bridge (popular for taking pictures) Many picnic tables for you to eat at; A terraced hill (to sit on or view shows put on in the amphitheatre. There's so many things to do- we can't wait to go back! The bathrooms are a little cleaner than most parks. Beware near the terraced hill, as there's some nasty biting ants- careful where you sit an be step!;
Playground
There's a medium sized playground for the kids- though I would say it's best for ages 6+ add there's some advanced skills needed to get from one section to another (e.g. rope bridge) There's also an obstacle course- which is used by most as a park as well. 6 pull-up bars near that.
Restrooms
There's restrooms between the kids Park and the obstacle course, they're in the cleaner side, but I wouldn't host a tea party in them.
Picnic area
There's many picnic tables throughout the park and lots of flat ground as well if you brought a blanket. Look around before you pick a spot, though as there are some nasty biting ants in some areas that are quite unpleasant.

Visited the park again today for the first time in forty two years. Went with a dear friend to participate in the "Village Heartbeat" walking. I could not believe the transformation that has taken place. The pond with two fountains are about the only two things that looked familiar. There were tennis courts, soccer fields, basketball courts, large padded play areas for children, rental bikes at every turn, picnic areas, covered picnic areas, walking trails, clean public restrooms and parking galore. Homes have been renovated, urban growth everywhere. There were signs of vibrant life all over the park. Wild ducks swimming in the Brook (waterway/stream), squirrels running about from tree to tree, sounds of the birds could be heard clearly. There were several multicultural groups walking in the park, several youth groups jogging and the most beautiful sight and inspiring act I saw this morning was "a sighted man holding the hand of a visually impaired man as they jogged." Kindness and thoughtfulness is still alive and well in Charlotte, NC. THE PARK WAS CLEAN,water fountains in aboundanc (turned off for the winter season). The park is pet friendly with ample supplies to scoop up the behind your dog. Dogs must wear leashes during the entire time they are in the park. Ample handicapped parking available as well as non handicapped parking. Great place to visit.

If you're looking for a beautiful outdoor space to explore, look no further than Freedom Park. This park is truly a gem, offering everything from hiking trails to picnic areas to stunning views. The park is immaculately maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful. One of my favorite things about Freedom Park is the variety of activities available. Whether you're in the mood for a leisurely stroll or a more strenuous hike, there's a trail for you. And if you're looking for a place to relax and enjoy a picnic, you'll find plenty of shady spots to set up camp. But perhaps the best thing about Freedom Park is the natural beauty that surrounds you. The park is home to a diverse array of flora and fauna, and you never know what you might encounter on your visit. Whether you're an avid nature lover or just looking for a peaceful escape from the city, Freedom Park is the perfect destination. Overall, I would highly recommend Freedom Park to anyone looking for a fun and relaxing outdoor experience. The park is clean, well-maintained, and offers something for everyone. It's no wonder that this park has become a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. Five stars!

Charlotte natives may have different memories of playtime at Freedom Park, the train wasn't fenced up, there was a tank to climb on and a super tall rocket to climb up and slide down. I fall into those memories, fifty or more years ago, as I now take my grandchildren to the park in order for them to have the time to make their own memories. They don't know 'used to be', it doesn't matter because we spend hours a day at the park and they fall asleep at night recalling the great times they have at Freedom Park. The rolling hill, the open concert stage, the ducks and the optimum open mindedness in meeting and making friends stands true over the years. Visit the park to find your own place in the long history of Freedom Park. The only downside is a problem true at every park and Greenway in the county, bicycle riders do not respect pedestrians and zip and zoom the trails with little regard to foot traffic. Come on now, three little words: TO THE LEFT or TO THE RIGHT keep all pedestrians feeling safe and happy in their park memory building, good times and sweet dreams from one generation to the next!

Freedom Park is a wonderful park in Charlotte, and has been my favourite ever since I moved here. It’s located in between Dilworth and Myers Park area. The park is spread around a lake, which has pretty views. The paved trails allow for convenient walking and running. The tennis courts allow for a good way to showcase your tennis skills. At times, I’ve also seen performances and events going on in the park, which provides a good communal feeling of partaking in things together. The Charlotte Nature Museum right next to the park is a fun way to learn about the animals of the Piedmont region, and I’ve been there multiple times as well. It’s worth it. Overall, Freedom Park is a wonderful way to chill, relax, exercise and spend time either alone or with your loved ones. The views are amazing as well. The steam engine in the park is pretty cool too. The swings and the playground area for kids attracts children and families all the year around. The name Freedom Park was bestowed upon it to honour the veterans of World War II. There’s parking available at the Whittington Field entrance.

Living here for over a year now. I haven’t been to this park yet as I live in Mooresville. Decided to checkout the festival in the park on Saturday. It was a beautiful day, in the high 80s. The insane part was how long it took to find parking. Absolutely ridiculous. We drove around for nearly an hour trying to find parking. I finally had to run into a restaurant to use the restroom. Then we were able to park in a designated parking garage for $10. It just took so long to move traffic and go anywhere. The park itself is very nice. There were SO many people at this event. It was pretty overcrowded in my opinion. Could barely walk along and see all the vendors as you were on top of everyone. We will be going back to that park for sure to just walk around. They had lots of food, vendors & the playground for kids is massive.

Freedom Park is probably my all-time favorite park in Charlotte. This review covers my visit during Festival In The Park on Sunday, 09-18-22 and Monday, 01-02-23. The pineapple Dole whip was a great treat to enjoy in the heat while people watching and walking around. I have been completing a daily challenge with a best friend as we count down to our birthdays. My challenge for day two was to write an inspirational message on the sidewalk with chalk. My message was "Happy New Year! Be FREE in 2023!" It felt good seeing people reading the message, even those going in the opposite direction. As I was writing the message, passersby said Happy New Year. I was good to see people and families enjoying the park and sunshine.

I'm in love with this park!!! This is a great location where anything can happen. It's a family focused environment with an fountain water park for the kids as well as baseball fields, basketball tennis and courts. There is a amphitheater for concerts and plays, which do happens in the summer. Freedom Park also offers shedded picnic areas great family reunions or gatherings. You can take leisure walks, ride your bike, skate or ride your skate board. I didn't get a opportunity to explore the entire park, but I will definitely go back. And it's pet friendly too. I would suggest reaching out to Park and Recreations before having and event to make they have accommodations.

  • Anita Mick

Love this place. There are a wide range of trees and plants. The walkways are clear and well managed. You can walk completely around the pond. There is a lot of shade available. To me, this is the perfect weekend. All dogs I saw were on leash, as well. There was a nearby food truck which had a long line. The only con I could find was the water was a little murky. I like to see the fish.
Playground
Fenced in area. Many children playing.
Restrooms
Did not use. I can not speak on their cleanliness.
Dog-friendliness
I saw dogs walking on leash.
Picnic area
I saw people picnicking. Picnic tables available.

  • Greg LaCoste

This park has raised the bar for what a park can be, I may have to begin issuing tiers. I would place this park on a S-Tier level. I was not able to see all that this park has to offer but from what I was able to witness this place has everything. From a great place for portraiture, activities for the kids, a place to have a cookout and/or even a FAMILY REUNION, there a mini amphitheater and a walk/run trail and a nature preserve. If you are ever in Charlotte North Carolina, do yourself a favor and check this place out you will not be disappointed.

  • Sam Weeks

Fabulous place to walk! It gives me a nice, serene atmosphere that- especially after a stressful day - allows me to settle down and get into a state of mental relaxation. The scenery is nice, tall trees, nice paved paths, as well as the Greenway running through the area. Overall, one of my favorite spots in Charlotte and it has been one of my favorite spots for the past 30 years I've been around!
Restrooms
Sufficient amount of public restrooms to keep park visitors comfort in being able to quickly being able to access a bathroom if need be.

  • Olga Andrizhievskaya

A very nice place to come over with kids and family. A Greenway around the park, paved smooth and quiet, a beautiful pond with a little island and a bridge, an amphitheater on the island, lots of space for a nice picnic on the grass under old tall trees, a little concession stand with snacks like popcorn, pretzels, water, ice cream, etc, HUGE playground for kids in the shade of old trees and another area with a little parkour track, an old train kids can enter by the bridge, clean public toilet.

  • Ron Whittington

Great place to get away from the daily rush. Relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. Listen to freelance musicians or be one. Play some outdoor games with family or friends. Have a picnic lunch or dinner. Sleep under the open sky. Read a book. Children play on the playground. Enjoy the trail system.
Playground
There is a train in the playground.
Picnic area
Plenty of open space to lay down a blanket or set up a bag chair. Pavilions can be rented in advance online.

  • Lana

If you're traveling from out if town I would recommend stopping at this park for some rest and relaxation. This park is beautiful end to end. It's a great place to walk and enjoy nature. There are a lot of kids and squirrels running around. Seems to be a great place for pictures as well. I went to get my steps in and I'm very happy I did because the experience was very nice. It's also connected to the Charlotte Greenway which I've heard is great to walk, run or ride your bike.

  • Asian Adventures

What a beautiful, wonderful, park! Great walking and cycling paths, history markers, playgrounds, BBQ pits and shelters, and even a Carolina Panthers Play 60 obstacle course for all ages! Extremely dog friendly too unlike what I had read previously which made me leave my dog behind. Won't make that mistake again. Even if your not particularly close to Charlotte, it is worth the drive and one can easily kill an entire day there. Check it out, you will NOT be disappointed.

  • Rowan Sunderland

Beautiful park! Very large and wonderful scenery. Everything is accessible by bike or on foot, and there are plenty of benches and large grassy areas. The water is very pretty with not too many geese.
Dog-friendliness
There is plenty of green area wonderful for bringing a dog on leash, as well as paths.
Picnic area
There are sheltered areas and large grassy areas and terraces, great for having a picnic. There are also benches that would work great as well.

  • James Hong

Nice park near the center of the city. Very limited parking and no easy public transportation to this site. Convenient for those nearby. Nice layout and facilities. Went for Festival in the Park. Very nice event. If you are farther out, try using Uber.
Playground
Playground available
Restrooms
Convenient restrooms
Dog-friendliness
Pet friendly, but keep on leash or carry.
Picnic area
Grassy areas to picnic as well as Pavillions.

  • Nicole Pollard

Gorgeous park, very clean with Beautiful scenery. The homes are exquisite, delightful to the eye. My mother attended a reunion over the weekend, the community center within the park was really nice and comfortable. Will definitely be back to visit.
Playground
Enough sets for children to play on
Restrooms
Not sure about the restrooms
Dog-friendliness
Big enough park for dogs to walk.
Picnic area
Great picnic areas with shelters.

  • Edward Taylor

Lot of dead branches and other debris in the pond. Was nice and peaceful at 6:30 p.m. when we arrived. Actually was able to find on street parking. Little dog loved the change of scenery and new scents. Plenty of walkers coming into the park, don't know why they have a 7p.m. closing time when almost every other park is open way longer or 24 hours. Park does seem to be well maintained, though didn't make the full tour.

  • Melissa H

I must say I wish my home town had a park set up like this, the scenery was beautiful the trails were nice and easy to follow for a walk or jog. Plenty of open space to relax, read a book, walk your dog, have recreational events or just simple enjoy the view of nature. The park is well kept, bathroom and cook out areas are cleaned. The park it’s self is well maintained and beautiful above all.

  • Brett Syndergaard

THERE ARE TURTLES! SO MANY TURTLES! This park is awesome! The playground is great for kids, the only one I have seen with a sand box. Be careful not to wander onto the single track mountain bike paths or you might find your kid suddenly has an expensive need to shred some gnar. Walk around the lake and see all the wild life. Dogs. Birds. Turtle. Humans. You name it. It's a great park.

  • Pau Belle

It’s my first time to visit this park and its so amazing. I love the walking trail as well the scenery. Good for nature lovers. Family friendly as they have playground for kids and court for different sports. Just encounter difficulty in finding the parking. And if your kind of person that insects really love, better to have insect repellant with you or wear long sleeves and pants.

  • Luke Packer

Awesome park, plenty of activities to participate in. The paths and walkways are well maintained, very clean and the staff are friendly. My only complaint would be turning families with kids around at the front gate in order to save spots for vendors. The best option would’ve been to reserve some spots for the vendors, then provide some signs providing info as to where to park.

  • Candy Mitchell

I've been going here for years, attending the festival in the park. I think I will make this a regularly visited spot. You can rent bikes here. Refer to the pictures for pricing. Also just sit out and watch the ducks in the lake. Very peaceful scenery and bathrooms as well. They have a playground for the kids. Also soccer, basketball, tennis court amoung other activities.

  • Giselle Santamaria

Very beautiful park. You can go there just for a walk to enjoy nature, or also you can do jogging or ride a bike. You can also rent a bike in the park, you don't need to have one. The park has a beautiful lake with some turtles and ducks. You can find here also the "Freedom Tree", a very symbolic American tree. Great place for yung kids. I absolutely recommend this park.

  • J.L. A.

Huge beautiful park! Lots of different areas to play for all ages, open space for picnics, performance watching, hiking, scenic babbling brooks, & great to take pics (professional or otherwise). Biking, skating, skateboarding, stroller friendly, & lots of places to park the car. Very peaceful & serene place to check out alone or with the family.

  • Dave D

Very pretty, nice walk but they need to regrade some of the walkways to avoid flooding after heavy rains. The lake is picturesque and there are many ducks and geese swimming in it. Plenty of dogs and families walking about too so there is calm and happy vibe throughout the park. I enjoy walking there on a beautiful spring or fall day.

  • M M

A beautiful park, with miles of trails, a lake apparently stocked with fish and a plethora of courts and fields for sports activities. A great place to come to relax, enjoy some nice weather or get a little exercise (or all three). Of you're in Charlotte and in search of a green oasis, come here for sure, you won't be disappointed.

  • Michael H.

Another awesome afternoon @ Freedom Park! Great relaxing place to walk, picnic, take in the sun ☀️, sounds of nature, and the birds & ducks It’s amazing how peaceful it is, even being in the heart of Charlotte. • Ron Jandebeur

Still a great place to visit but not without peril. A picnic at Shelter 2 ended in tragedy when a picnic-goer stepped between a hidden stump and a steel grounding stake at the base of a light pole. She had a fracture dislocation of her ankle and is scheduled for surgery. Watch your step at shelter 2.

  • Liliya Y

Nice park with lots of tennis courts. Fresh, clean air, it was quiet when I visited it. I was looking for a wall to play tennis on my own, there is something wooden, which potentially could be used to practice alone, but probably not a great way to play - it doesn't seem to be sturdy enough.

  • Melissa Ball

Beautiful park. We enjoyed a nice stroll around. Many people were riding bikes. You can rent electric bikes. There are tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, play grounds, and sports fields. A group was there doing landscaping painting as there are a number of pretty bridges and landscaping.

  • Errol Eaton

We love to go walk there on a cool fall day, the trees are beautiful and to be in and around nature and still be so close to down town is great, it really feels like you are off someplace special, I highly recommend this place for a day out. If you found tgis helpful please like and follow

I love freedom park! It has everything you need. It’s beautiful. It’s safe. There’s a good presence of police there. They have well lit tennis courts, basketball courts, big fields to play sports in. I really love being there and every time I go, it’s a great experience.

  • Yu-Hsien Ho

This is a beautiful park with friendly people and lots of dogs. The pond is very scenic and you always see artists painting the water and the bridge in the background. Great place for a picnic on a nice day, or if you want to take a walk and take your mind off things.

  • Dazz Kumar G

Freedom Park is a fantastic place with a diverse range of trees, a serene lake, and charming geese. It's the perfect spot for relaxing and rejuvenating walks. The variety of trees and the peaceful atmosphere create a truly uplifting experience. Highly recommended!

  • J Y

It's not New York's central park, it's not Boston Commons, but Charlotte's very own four seasons garden. Ducks migrate away for the winter and comes back in the spring, towing their young. It's a great outdoor space for anyone who wants to be close to nature.

  • Mery M

Such a beautiful and well maintained park. There’s less people during the weekdays than weekends. The restrooms are clean. There are places to enjoy a picnic and some people walk their dogs. The Sugar Creek greenway is nearby to go on walks or ride a bike.

  • Ansel White

Epic playground with features for big kids. Not for play during rain. Nice big playground for littl-er ones. Old steam train not for playing on, because its really old and cool. Nice big pretty pond, and a halfround theater for performances. Nice park.

  • Mark Ritchel

Beautiful park with lots of space to spread out in and picnic, sports, long walking trails, kids area, volleyball courts, numerous soccer fields, baseball fields. Weekends are busy and parking can be a big issue, so get there early and enjoy!

This place is so beautiful and peaceful. My wife and I come here about twice a week for a nice walk. They have plenty of ducks to feed and lots of space to walk. It does get crowded on the weekends. Overall a great place to relax.

Great park. The playground was in very good condition. The walking trail around the water was well kept and had many places to stop and relax. Only gripe was the restrooms were closed, which was odd for a Tuesday.

Great, safe park. People walking dogs, riding bikes, fishing, hanging out in hammocks. Multiple groups doing yoga, dogs being trained and there was even a geo club. Yet places to enjoy a quite break in the shade.
