I love visiting the zoo and do so on a regular basis. Parking is inexpensive, but there is also a DART rail and bus stop right by the main entrance, so I take the Red Line from Plano and avoid having to drive in Dallas. The zoo has a very easy to navigate layout, and you can visit all of the animals in a single day trip without having to rush. The front restrooms next to the gift shop have been redone with pretty painted murals. Restrooms are all clean, except you'll want to pass on the ones across from the Station One office (in the atrium by the bridge to the flamingos). Not much airflow in there... All of the animal habitats are well kept and clean, and the animals get new toys/enrichment cycled every day. The workers are all friendly and eager to answer questions you might have about the animals (or just how to get to a restroom or food stand). There are stands with pretzels, drinks, ice cream, and other snacks. There are also larger eateries on either end of the zoo. Prices are what you'd expect for a zoo or theme park, but the Dallas Zoo also welcomes visitors to pack their own snacks/lunches. We usually bring sandwiches, snacks, and water bottles, and then we'll pick up a lemonade or soda from the Zoo North food court. There are special events throughout the year and member mornings every month. The holiday Zoo Lights event is a fun evening activity for the family. Some of these activities are special ticketed but definitely worth it—and it's a big boost to the zoo to continue their breeding and conservation activities. Memberships are available, and an annual membership is cheaper than two visits, so it's really the best way to go. If you fall in love with the zoo, there is also a very dedicated volunteer program that would love to have you. You can join the nutrition teams in preparing diets in the morning, learn about the animals in an area to be a guide to others visiting the zoo, or even lend some elbow grease to assisting the keepers with making sure the habitats are clean and the animals are fed.

I stopped by the zoo on a sunday, they have special times early in the morning in July and August so you can get there at 8:00 a.m. and beat the heat. The Dallas Zoo has a carousel that's great for adults and children, and a number of animals that are great to watch and look at. Some of the animals they have are the cheetahs, lemurs, elephants, zebras, giraffes, gorillas, condors, tigers, lions, small primates, anteaters, Galapagos turtles, vultures and many more. They have a number of food stops so you certainly will not get hungry which include pretzels, barbecue, burgers, salads, popcorn and other snacks. Overall it's very fun, going in early in the morning to beat the heat is highly recommended as it felt rather nice. They have plenty of shade in the zoo so you can be comfortable, I would take a hat anyway. They also have little shows that you can watch as well as zookeeper talks. I had a great time and recommend it for a nice day Outdoors. They have a train that stops right at the zoo so if you want to skip the $10 parking fee and not have to deal with highways I would highly recommend the train. I've taken the train many times and it's a very comfortable way to come to and leave the zoo.

I took my fiancé here for her birthday and it was great! **HOURS ARE CHANGING BETWEEN JULY AND AUGUST TO KEEP THE PUBLIC AND THEIR ANIMALS SAFE DURING THE HEAT!!** Definitely recommend bringing lots of water, sunscreen and head coverings for the summer. The zoo is HUGE so make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring strollers or wagons for the kiddies. Although feeding the giraffes would be a very fun activity, be weary because depending on the time of day they might not be hungry or might have become overwhelmed. Definitely watch their behavior before making the choice to feed, but if they are eating it definitely a great experience to have!! Staff is extreamly helpful, very friendly and educational! Very willing and excited to educate the zoo goers about the animals there. They have a few themed restaurants inside the zoo, one of them even has a viewing window into the lions enclosure. If you aren't wanting to stop for a full meal they have little snack stands and vending machines with sodas, waters and sports drinsk. Waterfountaisnare also available throughout the park. Very stroller, wagon and wheelchair friendly.

The map at the zoo needs a lot of help or the paths need better markers. It was a hot day and half of the misters weren't working. Parking was scarce, but wasn't that big so the walk was a lot less than I expected. Entry is high, but I am used to a world class free zoo in St. Louis so it is hard to gauge what a zoo should charge, but it seemed expensive. The food was also overpriced... $40 for a large pizza...? $5 for a can of water? I was curious as to why I saw almost every family pulling a long cooler.... Makes sense... Maybe they should prevent people from bringing in food and drinks and just charge less...? Animal exhibits were decently large and they did have a fair variety for how big the place actually was. I felt like walking up the hills made the place feel larger than it was. The coolest part seemed to be the children's zoo. That was pretty cool and cooling for the kids. I do wish they found a way to make it so kids weren't bulldozing each other onto the coarse sandpaper-like concrete.

On a good weather day, Dallas Zoo is a great place to visit with family. They have split the zoo into 4 parts. You can check that on a zoo map. Giants of the Savanna: Per me, this is the most exciting part of the zoo. They have 1 cheetah, 3 elephants, and 1 baby elephant, 2 Giraffes, 3 Zebras, 2-3 Deers & Antelopes, 2 ostriches, 2 Lions, 1 Warthog, 2 African Painted Dogs. Avoid visiting this part during post lunch, as most of the animals get to sleep, appear lazy. Wilds of Africa: This part is equally good. Their Gorillas and chimpanzee areas are entertaining, and then they have a wattled crane, Nile crocodile, Hippopotamus, Aviary, Okapi, Storks and Flamingos Zoo North & Children's Zoo: There is a primate place, Bug house & herpatarium here. You get to see a tiger hiding somewhere, otters, Gibbon, leopards, Gibbons, more flamingos, Gibbon, Tamarin treetops, sloth, Toucan, Vultures, Eagles, Owls, Cranes here.

It was my first time visiting the Dallas Zoo, and I actually enjoyed myself. I packed a healthy lunch with a bottled of iced water and a cold can of my favorite cherry pepsi. Because I am asthmatic, I had to purchase a scooter rental for the healthy price of $35.00. Yes, it was steep and did dig into my souvenir spending, but I was actually able to enjoy the park without precedence. The park was just waking up, and animals were being fed to get them moving around. The park staff were busy, you saw them stirring and preparing areas for visitors. The restrooms were clean and fully stocked. I suggest that you do some homework prior to your visit. This is not a cheap day trip, even for small children. Expect to spend a nice large amount for the rides, feeding the animals, eating, rentals, and souvenirs. Pace yourself, stay hydrated, take lots of pictures, and have fun!

My family and I visited the Dallas Zoo in July 2023. It was during the time the temperature was above 105 everyday. The zoo opened an hour early so visitors could take advance of the cooler Temps . Not bloody likely! It was still hot but there were cooling stations all over the zoo. Lots of refreshment stands too. Almost all of the exhibits were open for viewing. There were additional side attractions to see as well. Definitely go see the dinosaur attraction. It is similar to the animatronic dinosaurs at Dinosaur Valley. The zoo is easy to find and there is plenty of shady parking. The staffnis friendly and provide lots of information about the animals. Whether you live in the Dallas metroplex or somewhere else over the rainbow, the Dallas Zoo is a great stop. Plan on a 3 to 4 hournvisitntonsee everything.

I've been waiting to leave a review because after 5 mediocre visits, we finally found our zoo groove. So here's what you need to know. The animals free roam. So they may or may not be visible during your trip. It took us 3 visits to get a glimpse of the big cats. But now- they have a DINOSAUR exhibit and for $6 extra dollars you can see the most amazing exhibit in Dallas. Recommended for kids 3+. I don't want to give it all away, so I went light on photos, but it's worth the drive and the money. Plan to spend 3 hours on your visit. You can bring strollers, snacks and juice. The zoo has a full diner with kids meals starting at about $10. Please go see this exhibit. I'm not sure how long it will be open.

It’s a nice zoo. Not a map to be found but I was able to use the one on their website which was annoying and battery draining but fine. I got lost quite frequently, I feel like the layout is weird maybe it’s just me. It was good exercise, that’s for sure. The big snakes in little tanks room made me sad. I got to pet a chicken and a goat which cheered me up. Then I saw people feed giraffes and a cute baby monkey. And I watched a stray domesticated cat hang out in a crane bird cage. I got there right when they opened on a Thursday and barely any one else was there. Can I suggest just one more sign that points to the entrance? Maybe I’m an idiot but I got super lost trying the find the actual entrance once I got past the giraffe statue.

I visited on a Monday as part of the Elephant Managers Association’s annual conference, hosted by both the Dallas Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo. I truly enjoyed my visit and the hospitality offered by staff, from the volunteers and concessions department to the elephant staff who hosted us. I have visited the zoo several times over the past 10-15 years and always enjoy myself. All the animals seem well-cared for, clean and fun to view. There were many volunteers available to answer questions for the guests. A big thanks to all for a great visit and the great work this facility puts into caring not only for their elephants but the species as a whole.

I go here all the time. It's always a fun experience for the kids. They have upgraded the food over the years. We also love the splash area in the children's zoo. We went this year to the dinosaur experience it was cool but the walking was a workout. I really enjoyed it in years past and I wish they would do it again with the shuttles through the dinosaur exhibit. It feels more like you're in Jurassic park and makes the experience more enjoyable especially when it's 90°outside and your sweating bullets. I have a membership. I always recommend the membership because it is worth it if you go even twice a year it pays for itself.

Honestly, it was my first time going to this zoo and it was disappointing. The good things: They acknowledge and encourage women in science. It has a very nice species of reptiles and spiders, they had a super cute “show” with an armadillo, bathroom was decent, not too crowded. The bad things: It doesn’t look too clean, plants do not look well kept, a lot of the animals “weren’t there” They had signs with “I’m sorry this animal is not here today” so you kept on looking at empty places.

What an incredible place to go see. We have not been to a zoo in a very long time so this was a treat. The cages were clean and there were plenty of plants around for them. They needed a gift shop, we didn't see any places to buy tee shirts or trinkets. Loved feeding the giraffes what a treat. The elephants have a new baby and it's so sweet to see them all interact. The tiger was fat and sassy. The monkeys were funny. The lion and lioness, oh so beautiful!! It wasn't crowded either.

This is an AWESOME zoo and quite frankly, I liked it better than the other big name zoo "next door." It's a tad smaller which made it easier to navigate with the littles. But the biggest standout are the employees! They were so kind and knowledgeable! They engaged with my kids and were so kind. I got a blister and was embarrassed to ask for a band-aid but they made it no big deal! Offered to wrap my foot we WILL be back with season passes (even with a hour drive!)

Had a great time about tickets in advance as is required right now. Went ahead and got a season pass for the family and really glad I did. Had not been to the Dallas zoo in many years. It has changed a lot and all for the better the animals look happier and with the weather cooling off they were a lot more active. We enjoyed watching them feed the lemurs they were hanging on his leg waiting to see what else he had. Lucky for us, the giraffes were hungry and we got to feed them. Always fun for the littles.

I had a great time when I came to visit for a concert, I had a Sunday morning off so decided to drop by and had a blast. There weren't too many people there but it can accommodate quite a few people regardless. I listened to the elephant talk with the volunteer and she was wonderful, she knew so much about the animals and showed that she cared for them as well, hopefully this place gets a lot more support all around in order to maintain how well they keep their animals.

We really loved our trip to the Dallas Zoo. The exhibits were quite nice and the animals were so active during our visit. We also explored the Destination: Dinosaurs exhibit, which was so fun--with interactive dinosaurs, a dig site, and some fun displays! The food at the grill was good, and prices were as expected for the zoo. You are able to take your own drinks and food in though! In total, we spent 4 hours exploring, but we could have easily spent another 2-3 hours.

Came out here on dollar day. Very hot. The indoor cooling areas were cool but not as cool as they could have been. Not enough areas to rest away from the 100° heat. Not enough water refill stations so pay attention to your map! Other than that we had a wonderful day and enjoyed seeing the animals! We brought our own food and drinks in a cooler. Huge zoo on a hot day. Prepare to walk. Destination Dinosaurs was pretty cool too! Enjoyed our day but it was very hot out.

It was an alright experience. The kids petting zoo was pretty disappointing. There were only 2 goats out to pet and they only allow one group at a time to go in. Giraffe feeding was also closed. A lot of the exhibits are rather small for the animals in them like the elephant enclosure. Each section is pretty spaced out from the next so unfortunately we only made it halfway through before they were rushing out the gate because it was closing time. There were a few different attractions like the carousel and train which are kid friendly however the prices are not unless you’re a member.

  • Khyati Karki

This is a good place to spend your day with kids or family. The zookeepers and scientists are well informed and share enough information if you are interested in knowing more about the animals. All the animals are healthy, kept neatly and have great spots to view in peace. Make sure you reach early to enjoy it the entire day since there's a lot to view and enjoy. Most evenings they have live performances too which starts at 7pm.

Loved visiting this zoo. Great layout and variety of animals. Knowledgeable staff during the zoo chats were great with kids. Feeding giraffes was a real highlight. Food was really good for zoo food. Would love to see more non-animal things for kids. There is a carousel, could use a playground in a picnic area or a train that moves through the zoo instead of the one that goes in a small circle around fake animals.

Pros: - Lots of misting fans to cool off - Paintings by animals available to purchase - Penguins and Otters were playful and adorable - Really enjoyed the bird feeding, they were cute! - The kids play area with the little river was nice. Cons: - A lot of missing animals/closed enclosures. - Didn’t have great enclosures for many of the animals (felt small and sad) - Paper map is not very useful and hard to use.

I thought it could’ve been a little cheaper most of the zoo is closed off. also buying tickets online is more money. There where No animals to see just the Christmas lights. First time ever to the zoo here will come back next year during the day. Was a little disappointed. This was also a first time night time so i didn’t really know what to expect. Still very pretty was is worth a $100 bucks not really.

I've only visited this zoo a few times over the years, but I always enjoy it when I do go. Tbe animals are very well cared for, and the enclosures are well kept. The grounds are nicely landscaped as well. I can't speak on the food and snacks offered because I've never tried any. On my most recent visit, they were decorating for the holidays and it was looking very pretty already even in the daytime. If you're visiting or living in the DFW area I'd recommend paying a visit to this zoo.

  • Tammy Copsetta

Loves that we got see almost EVERY SINGLE ANIMAL...and the ones we didn't get to see had a sign in the cage that they were not in their habitat today so that help us instead of sitting there searching. Highlight of the day was the kids getting to feed the giraffe! Tons of wonderful snakes as well! Kids love the play area and petting zoo by the barn as well

I love this zoo! My family and I have been enjoying our first year as members of the zoo, and it is well worth it! We've been to super fun and interesting members only events, and it's been nice having a discount and/or free tickets when we have groups of friends and family in town. This zoo is plenty big, the enclosures are beautifully curated, and keepers are always knowledgeable and friendly - talking with them is always informative!

  • Todd Roland

The zoo is great but the amenities need some help. 3 different places weren’t open or didn’t have functioning cc readers. The animals didn’t seem to care! The new dinosaur exhibit is nice but it definitely has the possibility to scare any littles you may bring. And the carousel is a favorite of my little girl!

Really great zoo with lots to experience. It can take over three hours to see everything. Plan for a lot of walking. Great places to see most of the animals up close. I recommend an annual pass that gets you unlimited rides on the carousel and train and that way you can come back again if you didn’t catch one of the animals on your first trip. Seeing the baby hippo, elephant and giraffe on our last trip was pretty special,

  • Rob C

My family and I enjoyed this zoo! Large exhibits that had plenty of walk-in areas to get out of the sun/heat. The kids really enjoyed feeding the giraffes and petting the goats. The train ride could have been better by going across some of the zoo and not just in circle but overall a great experience

Great for little kids. Giraffe feeding ($6) and Bird Feeding ($2) was a hit. There's a kiddie zoo in the north that's like a kids park and has ways to interact with animals like birds and goats. I would only advise proper summer clothes since all that walking makes you really sweat!

The animals are mostly happy. You can tell the workers love the area they work in and give information in that area. However, the food in the flamingo area kind of sucked. And I wish I could go back there and tell them how to properly cook a chicken. But I can't.

We went on $1 day. It was really crowded, which we expected but everyone had a great day despite it being super hot.

Lots of variety of animals, which was cool. They have an area where you can also feed the giraffes for an extra fee, but its really cool for kids. Can definitely walk through the whole place in a couple hours, but it did tire the kids out.

Dallas Zoo has a wide variety of animals. They have an extensive offering of zoo talks that are held all day long. Be sure to check out the schedule when you arrive! They have a lot of misters scattered all around the zoo to keep you cool.

Truly enjoy my experiences at the Dallas zoo. They have an awesome kids area with water features so even in the summer it's a good time!

Very cool Zoo. Recommend heating before you go since food is expensive and go during the cooler months. We went during the summer and we're dying.

This is a great zoo overall but I took one star away because I was disappointed they replaced the Australian animals with fake dinosaurs and also charge extra to see them?

The gorillas are amazing here. We really enjoyed how many spots around the encloser you are able to view the gorrilas. Zoo was very well kept up. On the smaller side compared to some zoos, but very clean.

Great to visit on Tiger Tuesday as it's half off admission. Not too crowded but really hot. Water fountains need to serve ICE COLD water instead of cool water. All in all, it was for the grandkids.

Such a great place to explore the world with my little one :) Love the water fountains and air conditioned rooms throughout the zoo, they made visiting during the summer 1000x better!

We are annual members. Love coming for short visits or all day affairs. Very nice to see mixed animals. Somewhat smaller zoo. But has one of most things!

One of the best zoos in the USA. Great place for the whole family. It’s also clean and organized. Has many restaurants, cafés, and restrooms.

I loved the zoo I can't wait to go back next week. I am now a season pass holder and totally worth it.

I love the zoo! It's always so much fun and worth every penny! The food is very expensive though.
