I have taken numerous animals- dogs, cats, large parrots, snakes, you name it to Doc and staff for over 13 years. I absolutely wouldn't go anywhere else. They do truly care about your pet and make sure you are able to treat them with whatever means you may have. I respect Doc because I know he is not out there to sell me stuff I don't need and make money off of me. He just wants to make my pet better or comfortable, whatever the case may be. I acknowledge that practicing this way (and with alternative meds and therapies) may not be for everyone, but I respect it and am grateful for everything they have done for me over the years. I mean, upon bringing my new dog Stella in for her first visit there, Doc opened the exam room door and yelled STE-LLA!! Why would I ever want to go anywhere else? LOL. As for the office staff being rude: Jennifer is my savior. I have called and talked to her about more topics more times than I can count. She is always patient with me and explains things so I can understand. Perhaps in other circumstances she wasn't greeted with kindness in the first place. Only conjecture on my part, but generally in life you get what you put out there. They are only human after all. (And I bet they much prefer dealing with the animals over their picky humans any day.) I have always been kind and patient and have always gotten the same in return. I seriously rely on these guys and their advice and care more than I can express here in mere words. I am so grateful they are and have been there for me.

Dr. Heath is the absolute best vet I've ever had for my senior cat. There was a time when he had some issues with eating which lead to disastrous results but no other vet could help him. Once I started taking him to Dr. Heath his health greatly improved. She's also always extremely kind and understanding of financial strains so does her best to explain all possible options. I feel really lucky to have found such a great doctor for my much beloved best friend. Update: My beloved boy ended up having a mass in his stomach that was missed this entire time and ultimately was fatal. No x-rays were suggested or done when it came to his vomiting, which may have helped identify what was causing it in the first place. In addition to that, Dr. Heath for some reason refused to prescribe my elderly boy the renal diet cat food in wet form even though I told her he does better with wet foods due to having diabetes in the past. She suggested I mix the dry cat food with water instead? I had to wait till his final weeks when Dr. McGeHee started seeing him to prescribe it for him. I truly feel that if we'd done x-rays or looked into other possibilities for his continued vomiting, we could have had a different outcome. Dr. Heath is no longer at this location and I think they're better for it. Only taking away 1 star because Dr. McGeHee was nothing but understanding and compassionate during my precious and sweet boy's final days.

This happened in 2019- I know it’s a very late review but I had been thinking this long if I should leave this review or not. Back in 2019 I dropped off my bunny because he was very sick, they told me over the week I can feel free to call them to check up on him so I did but NOBODY ever picked up. I had to drive to them instead & knock on the door to check up on him, the doctor told me he was fine & getting better which of course made me feel so happy! Next day I called nobody picked up, next day I get up & start getting ready to go pick him up THINKING he was doing better since nobody EVER CALLED ME to tell me anything bad. I call them asking what time I can go get him& if I can go as well as how he’s doing & they told me he passed away…. I was in such SHOCK! & upset with the hospital & DOCTOR! For not telling me that my bunny died! I went a day thinking he was thriving & happy but really he was gone & I did NOT know because NOBODY told me & YES the doctor knew the day he passed away because she was there along with other assistants. The doctor did apologize for not telling me & she told me she forgot to inform about that. HOW do you forget to inform an owner of there pets passing!?. I really don’t recommend this place!! Unprofessional . ZERO STARS.

We have been going to see "Doc" for almost 30 years now. And yes they are always busy, because he is the Best Vet in Town. Waiting to see Doc or Dr. Yoa is well worth the wait. I know if one of my animals has an emergency, and they have, I am grateful they get put at the front of the line. It does not happen often, I have 5 dogs and 3 cats, so I am a regular in the office, but it does happen. When someone asks me well how much did that set you back, they are amazed at hows reasonable the prices are at Castle West. The office does not try to sell you extra's or something you don't need. Sometimes if the Staff is abrupt with humans, it is only because their minds are on your pets welfare. I have never personally had any issues, but I could see how this could happen. Another person wrote about how they wanted the money up front, they must not have been an established client. (Would you trust someone off the street to pay the bill for their dying pet) I find it very hard to believe that Doc and his staff did not do every thing they could do to save this animal. I would not take my animals any where else.

When I arrived at the vet clinic, I was very intimidated by the establishments look. I entered the facility and felt as though my rabbit would not be in good hands just by looking at the condition. Never have I been so wrong. The staff was composed of some or the most friendly, laid back, yet responsible and knowledgeable people ever. All of the customers I saw coming in also we're so nice and I really could tell they loved this place, the employees even know the customers and their pets by names which is very rare to see now a days. I absolutely recommend this place to any exotic pet owner or pet owner in general. They are very kind and mean well. They took amazing care of my rabbit, ensuring she would be in safe hands and they did not fail to keep their promise. They even went as far as to give me a slight discount for something that came up. The ONLY negative critic I would have for this vet would be the cleanliness of the place and that I wish I could have spoke to the veterinarian. Over all, I give this place five stars because of the excellent staff and the treatment of animals.

Love Dr. McGeHee!!!! He's amazing!!!! Knowledgable,has no issues with answering any question about your dogs, compassionate and understanding on financially reasonable medical care. Love the staff always whether they change out or not, they have I've been dedicated to Dr. M. Who wouldn't be fabulous anyway if he's approved them, Im good with it. I only say that cause I saw a poor review for the staff. And FYI lady think of your situation like this.... If you have a medical emergency, EMERGENCY...... DO YOU CALL 911 OR D YOU TRY TO REACH YOUR PRIMARY DOC? ILL REPHRASES EVEN. If you have a medical URGENCEY AND NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR IMMRDIATEY, do you go to the Emergency Room or do you call your regular doctor to see if they have can open up their office in the middle of the night ( just saying if your medical emergency is in the middle of the night) But entrust I understand your frustration when the trust of your baby's health and life you don't just put in anyone's hands.

Most animal clinics or hospitals are overpriced and poorly managed. Not this one! I have been a client of Castle West Animal Hospital for over 15yrs. While I was out of town my dog escaped and was hit by a car. A witness picked my dog Charlie and brought him to Castle West. The vet and his staff x-rayed and fully examined him. They kept my dog until I was able to track him down. Needless to say I was in tears and to my surprise the dr came out and spoke to kindly and they didn’t charge me a dime for their services. I don’t have very much $ myself but I always make sure to take all my rescues ( I have 4 now) to Castle West. Animals are not cheap to care for but it affordable here. And at least here they will not charge you for anything that is not needed. I highly recommend Castle West Animal Hospital ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

McGeehee (aka Doc) is just the best vet ever. I’m sure there are other very educated veterinarians out there but I do not know of another person who could ever fill his shoes. Not only is he educated and an expert in his field across domestics but also specializes in exotics. Additionally, he is caring and genuinely has the best interest for the animal. You know he is passionate about his work and it’s not about the money. He provides his expertise and offers options to his clients for treatments taking in consideration his professional opinion, welfare and health of the pet along with cost. We’ve been seeing Doc for almost 20 years and he’s treated all 15 of our pets. Some have since past but they all had very good lives and we are thankful to have Doc as part of our family.

Dr. McGehee saved my dog's life! Ziggy, my mini Schnauzer, was very ill and suffering from the symptoms of Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis. I thought I was going to have to make that tough decison pet parents could only dread. As soon as he saw Ziggy, he knew exactly what to do. His knowledge and expertise shined through. Ziggy is now on the road to recovery and making a speedy turnaround. Dr. McGehee is very straight forward and only suggests what is absolutely necessary. He doesn't beat around the bush like some other veterinarian's seem to do, racking up uneccesary costs. I can't thank him and his courteous staff for all that they did to help us. I highly recommend you bring your furbabies to see him. I will be forever greatful! ❤

We have used Dr McGeehee for 15 years and we love him. We had a large dog we took there for 14 years and they treated him like he was their dog! I knew I was leaving him in good hands when we kenneled him as well as when he needed help medically. They ARE busy as others stated so sometimes there is a wait but usually not terribly long. They were compassionate when we had to put him down and the assistant cried along with us as this was done. We are now about to lose our cat and the visiting Dr. Leland was extremely helpful yesterday with diagnosis and her counseling on the process. We could not be happier with Castle-West and will be taking our new puppy there when he needs his first visit.

I had high hopes for this veterinarian hospital. We rescued a cat and they were fine. A couple of years later (this spring) we rescued a dog. We scheduled spaying and the day before, the vet goes on sudden vacation. We reschedule the day he was supposed to return, they called again, said he wasn't back yet from vacation. Rescheduled for the next day, they called and said he was sick. We had to be out of town and rescheduled the spaying a couple of weeks later. This time, our dog had an infection, so... rescheduled a couple of week later (tomorrow). Just got the call and he'll be unavailable again. That's four reschedules for the vet's reasons. Not sure what is going on, but this worries me.

VERY impressive staff! Compassionate and caring. They went beyond the call of duty with my one year old pup who was very nervous about having to leave the car without his mom. The staff made this visit to the vet in the time of quarantine a great experience not just for me, but more importantly for my pup! The doctor called me as she was with my pup and spent a good deal of time explaining options. I could tell that even the doctor had spent additional time with my pup to make him comfortable. The whole experience made it abundantly evident that everyone in the building truly has the animal welfare in mind at every step of the process. Kudos to the entire Castle West team!

I have been taking my animals to Castle West for 28 years. Doc Mcgee has been great. But the staff has changed. If you have an emergency tuff luck go some where else because Vet Tec Marcos will not allow your beloved 8+ year old dog to have emergency care. Even when you call in at 7.15am. So what he has lost 10 pounds this wk. By the time my boy gets to see the vet he will be at 20 lbs lost in 2 wks. Then he will probley have to wait another week in real bad pain. Doc what is happening at your clinic. Any way you have been telling me for the past 2 yrs he didn't need his teeth cleaned. Now he could die. Thanks for nothing. And fire Marcos!!! He is a jerk!

Dr. McGehee and staff have been my pets' and foster animals' veterinarian for 21 years. I can only say great things about the competent and well-thought-out veterinary care those animals have received over the years, and the fact that Dr. McGehee always has the best interests of his animal patients and his human clients in mind. Dr. McGehee has saved the life of more than one sick or injured animal in my life or temporarily in my care against steep odds each time; that said, I trust in the cycle of life and death and divine timing for both. My most sincere thanks to all at Castle West Animal Hospital for their compassion, kindness, and knowledge.

The staff here are so friendly, compassionate and caring. They are very helpful as well. One time we went, I didn't know that my vet appt got canceled. They tried reaching out to me but I guess I missed it. I was really disappointed when I arrived at the clinic coz my pet was really sick, but they helped me by calling other vet clinics. I went to another clinic and cost me an arm and leg and didn't even made any changes to my pet. So I made another appt and got to meet Dr McGehee and my pet got better the day after. Highly recommended! The staff, the Doc, reasonable price, everything.. Two thumbs up!

I love Dr. McGeehee, he is excellent with my pets, though he sometimes seems "brief" with everything. Even when I make appointments I end up waiting quite a while to be seen. The office staff is less than professional. One girl who's name I don't know is snarky and doesn't seem to have a filter. She makes inappropriate comments and calls the pets names (I guess she thinks it's funny?) Jennifer is a tech and she has TERRIBLE customer service. She speaks to paying clients as if they're expendable. I guess they are to her. I won't be returning. I want my vet to have kind people who care about your pets.

The staff here are amazing and the vet is just so personable! Had to bring my dog in for allergies and tooth infection. The staff and doctors asked lots of questions to give the best care. ❤️ I lived in San Antonio 20 years ago and I am moving back to help my Aunt with Alzheimer’s. My first thought for my animal care for my miniature Italian Gray Hounds was Castle West Hospital because of how wonderful Carrie is with animals and her love for animals. She took care of my cats back 20 years ago or more and I trust her love and passion for animals continues in her work 20 years later .❤️❤️❤️

Great! Everyone who worked there was very kind. Making an appointment was fast and easy, no one was rude like the othe reviews said. I'll be coming to this animal hospital from now on! I came here because it was one of the few hospitals that are hedgehog friendly. The wait wasnt very long and the appointment went by really fast (: I called other animal hospitals and they said treatment for my hedgehog will cost around $90-$110. I only had to pay $58 for the visit and my hedgies medicine. So the prices are great! This place is just great. End of story. I highly recommend it!

Took our baby girl, Boo, for her yearly exam and vaccines today and I couldn’t be happier. Dr. E. McGehee and the staff were very friendly and thoroughly examined her. He even examined her paw pads due to injuries she sustained chasing squirrels over the weekend. Very satisfied with the care and attention they always provide for her and I greatly appreciate the advice and recommendations given to me throughout this year of me bringing her here. Staff was very helpful. The doctor was great. Examined my bunny that we found outside and did a full check up on her. Felt very comfortable. So I guess we finally found our neighborhood vet for all our fur babies. So, our bunnies passed away back in October of 2019. The staff was beyond helpful. I don't know how we got so fortunate to coming across a group of people who were patient with me while I cried on the phone. Our bunnies will be forever missed. Still, this hospital was the best choice we ever made.

I just love your office. The people, the treatments, the genuine care and consideration given to each person and animal they bring in. I’ve brought family members animals in, as well as my own, my iguana (it’s so great that y’all help reptiles too, that’s so rare!!), my doggo, and my three kitties. Dr. McGehee is the best! We have tried several in San Antonio! Most veterinarians that we visit it feels like they are trying to get more money out of us versus taking care of the animal Dr.McGehee is ver compassionate when it comes to animals. He helped us put down our Hedgehog Sonic, neutered our Male sugar glider Stitch. Our dog recently had a cyst/bite and we were able to get in the next day. We are so thankful for this Vet!

I had a great experience with Dr Sarah Heath and the vet techs there who were so kind and gently with my oldest dog Macy. Luckily my dogs have been healthy and we rarely need intervention. The staff is so wonderful, and the vet charges are very reasonable!!!!! I don't live in this area, and have had my dogs treated in at least 3 different places over the years. I am COMING BACK to here and here only! Thank you all :)

Dr. McGehee and staff care about your pets. We have been loyal customers for more than 20 years and for good reason. We once had a cat knocking on death's door. Dr. McGehee knew about our limited finances so he asked if we were open to other non-traditional options. We agreed so he gave our cat dandelion root which cured our cat's ailment and saved his life. Dandelion root? Really? Who would have thunk it? Amazing!

Dr. Evan Mcgehee and his father, Dr. Mcgehee, and their staff are the only people I trust with my baby girl. I have only had great experiences with this office. These guys aren't out there to poke your eyes like some other vets. These guys genuinely care for your fur babies and their furry assistants such as Barry are very cute lol. This was my first time here and I absolutely loved the place! They are so great with answering calls and questions in a timely manner. I truly felt my 3 dogs were in great hands during their checkups. Each staff member I met was also very kind and careful when handling each one of my dogs. I will definitely be coming back for all my future appointments. My dogs seem more happier and healthier than ever! :D

We've had Buddy at another vet his whole life, but when his last two visits were nerve racking and full of whelps we knew we needed a change. Our visit at CWAH was hands down Buddies best visit in his whole life. Bud was nervous as usual, but the demeanor of the vet tech and doctor interacting with us and Bud left my fur baby wagging his tale before we left. Keep up the great work CW!

Best vet I've ever experienced. They do get a lot of customers so a wait would probably be expected if you haven't scheduled in advance. I've never had poor service from the office staff. Both vets are wonderful, the prices are VERY good and more than reasonable, plus they are pretty flexible. I was recommended here by an animal lover with many fur-children and couldn't be happier.

I thought everything was great. Visit was done in a timely matter without feeling rushed. I was treated with respect and had great customer service. There is the best prices in town here, and didn't feel I was being taken advantage of. No hidden fees either, just a overall great experience and I will definitely come back, if needed, and will recommend you to anyone I know.

CWAH has always been a welcoming place for me and my pets. I was first familiar with them through work and saw how they treated even the smallest of critters with love and care. Dr McGehee has been my vet for over 20 years since I lived near this clinic. I now live in the Windcrest area and wouldn't see another vet! Our 3 cats and our dog are very calm with him (unusual for the cats to even be calm). He is very gentle and thorough and willing to recommend alternative therapies if a customer wants them. I highly recommend him and this clinic!

JENNIFER went out of her way to get the dog food from another nearby VET office.We have been taking our PUG & COCKATIEL, To Dr. McGehee for 8 ys. Taking the 1 hr drive is worth it. Staff has always been very friendly professional and very caring.

Son has two emotional support bearded dragons. It's hard to find a vet that will see them. When my son noticed one was not acting normally, we were able to get her in at Castle West Animal Hospital within a day. Now, she is well on her way to returning to her normal "I hate everyone but my human" self! Thank you so much for everything you do!

Dr McGeehee and Dr Heath are PHENOMENAL. My dog has always been very anxious, but they have be consistently building a great and trusting relationship with her. They’re very communicative, and the PetDesk app they use is very convenient and easy to make and schedule appointments and reminders. Could NOT recommend this animal hospital enough.

An excellent, well established Vet clinic. Dr McGehee and his new partner Dr Sarah Heath run this facility like a well-oiled machine. The staff is very caring and attentive. All our vet needs are addressed here, regardless of need. They also do boarding. My family has used Castle West for over 20 years and continue to do so.

They were so good and kind with my dog and even better with my mean cat! Well I don't know how, she wasn't mean to them, which makes me want to give them ten stars. The staff at Castle West all love animals, and their work and care reflect this every time. Dr Heath treats our Lulu as though she were her own dog, and that gives us a lot of confidence. It is remarkable how well they are handling so many pet owners with the curbside method, during this darn pandemic.

They may need to increase their capacity. This vet was highly recommended to me but when i called the first available appointment was about 2 weeks away and my dog has a tumor thats is bleeding and needs more immediate attention. missed opportunity and I will have to look for another vet recommendation

Doctor Mc Ghee has a rough approach with birds. My parakeet freaked out when he grabbed her so hard by the nech she could barely breathe. Don't take your pet to a clinic where the doctor is not gentle and is too rough with your pet. The assistants are very unkind on the phone. Forget about this place!

Helped with my little dog after he had an emergency - it was completely reassuring and I knew he was in safe hands. The Dr. knew his condition well and took great care of him. He is 16 so he is fragile, but the Dr. And his team care and continue to keep him Healthy and happy with every visit. - RR

We have been taking our pets here ever since we had pet rats and ferrets. The doctors are great super friendly and have a very personal touch to the care of our furry family . It is always crowded and the parking is probably the worst part of going for a visit. Everyone is knowledgeable here.

This is a great vet office. Friendly, very competent veterinary medicine. Not out to gouge you with overpriced services. They work with you to find what works for your pet. They are a busy office, but will squeeze your pet in if they need care now. Check-ups must be booked ahead of time.

Loved the experience. We have been shopping around for a new Vet. This is a great place. The techs were super friendly and gentle with our pets, and the Dr was great too. They wanted to care for the animals but didn't push a bunch of treatments that were pricey and unnecessary.

I don't care how long it takes to get in to see the doc, there is NO better place to take your pets. They are patient, professional, and truly care about every animal that comes through their doors.

The entire staff is friendly and sweet with me and my animals. I am always satisfied with our service. They are great at answering my questions and responding quickly. My one and only vets office.
