I’m giving 1-star to offset the unjustifiably high star rating this place has on Google Maps. Espresso is their main thing, and it was unremarkable. In terms of foodstuffs, they carried nothing interesting, artisanal, or particular. Everything seems bought by basic suppliers. The baristas were mediocre. They seemed a bit bored and self-involved, often looking at their phones. Mind you, they didn’t even have that Euro-French snooty sophistication that can rub Canadians and Americans the wrong way but at least that's an uncommon experience for tourists. The place was simply not well-kept. Things feel cluttered. Dusty surfaces everywhere that could use a wipe down. Layout was confused and could use a bit of Marie Kondo un-messing. The menu items were uninspired (a Brasiliano latte sounds cool but it’s just a latte with chocolate and cinnamon). Even the bathroom was upsetting (cheap brown industrial paper towel, no signage on the door, the door felt hollow, flimsy). The place has little in mind regarding customer experience. It seems to sit on a Euro-coffeeshop vibe that feels very dated. Even the location and the view out of the window is sad. It looks onto the middle of grey empty street without zero greenery or old-world architecture to gaze upon. It is all particularly upsetting given that you are in old port, and in close proximity to very wonderful and special cafés. I'm unsure how this place got such a high rating.

I’ve been to this cafe many times while travelling through Montréal. I go because the location is next to where I stay. The female staff look very unhappy, one was exceptionally rude and didn’t acknowledge me saying hello or goodbye, just glared at me. I thought maybe everyone got this treatment but no the next lady who spoke French was treated very nicely. Coffee has been consistently decent, however I was charged more in the late afternoon vs the morning for the same coffee. Probably because they were about to close and she didn’t want to work anymore. Or perhaps she thought she deserved a tip for just doing the bare minimum. Generally I would say miserable and rude staff who pick and choose with whom they are polite. I’ve read a lot of the reviews, and I agree more with the low star reviews as accurate than the high star reviews appear disingenuous.

The coffee tasted great, and the food was high quality. I got a latte, and the coffee and milk blend was fabulous! I would say it’s important to note for Americans, that the sizing of the latte is much smaller than a typical latte size in the US. Their sparking drinks they have in cans for purchase are so good! My partner and I also got two of their sandwiches. The meat and veggies were super fresh!! To top it off, the brownie and cookie we got had amazing flavor, and were definitely made the day of. The staff was great and helped us greatly. The only con I found was that there was no nearby outdoor seating, and the indoor barstool chairs weren’t the most comfortable or available.

Fun local cafe! In the hassle of the old port, it became quite hard to find a decent place to drink a peaceful coffee at. This place feels and tastes like Italy. The owner ia very nice and attentive and gives you a real welcoming feeling. Cookies and other pastries are just splendid. Coffee tastes like it should and being made with extra attention, small batches. There's a deli next door where you can also enjoy some Italian goodies.
The latte I had from here was nice and bittersweet. The cafe itself was a bit small and seemed more of a place to get things to go rather than to sit down in my opinion. The employee was also quite accommodating for me as well. (Sorry for not reviewing in French)

We had regular coffee and a cafe latte. They have artificial sweetener, almond milk, and creamer. Not just sugar and milk like some of the cafés around here. Limited seating inside, maybe 6 seats? Service was fast and friendly and their pastries looked good. The cookies here are huge!!

4.8 stars by 373 people I don’t think so. We ordered a salami sandwich which was made at least 1-2 days ago and couldn’t eat more than one bite. You actually can see in the picture how old and not fresh is the bread. The quiche was so bad omg. And the coffee as well. We left everything there almost untouched and went to other place. 4.8 stars for what exactly???
We stopped by Cafe de Mercanti in a really cold day and we had a great and warm coffee & cafe Latte. The cafe is really cozy and the service was really fast and friendly. They have great choices of cookies and they had panetone too! Delicious! The decor is fun and its in a really good location of Old Montreal. We totally recommend. Eli and Serge: 5
Rude staff, went in to use the bathroom like any normal human being would and instead of them asking me nicely that I should ask next time to use the bathroom which is weird since it’s a cafe; I just wish they would’ve asked me nicely and not make it seem like I was invading the cafe like some criminal.

This is a little gem in the Old Port - quite a few Cafés don‘t pay attention to the customers but only want to make a quick buck at the side. In this, in my humble opinion, authentic Italian cafe you get a very good coffee and treats. The owner is very friendly, the place is clean yet cozy,... I will be back for certain.
Endroit parfait pour faire un pause après avoir visité le vieux port. Très accueillant, on nous a conseillé sur les différents produits. La spécialité est la boule au beurre, une sorte de gros macaron délicieux. Je recommande à tous les gourmands

An amazing experience! My husband and I came here due to the overwhelmingly high google reviews. The coffee was amazing and the service even better. The barista took the time to relate to us and even offered us a complementary croissant because we are from out of town! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This coffee shop has delicious coffee; truly it's all about the service. The man that was serving us the coffee I think may have been the owner. He was so friendly and kind, we enjoyed some great conversation, and he made a great cup of coffee! This coffee shop is a great spot to stop.
Very exceptional artisanal coffees prepared by delightful warm friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere on a chilly morning
