From the moment our party of four entered the restaurant at 6.40pm, I could tell that the service was going to be terrible. The front of house was shocking, not acknowledging we were waiting, whilst she continued to chat to a walk in customer socially. It took a good 5 minutes before were were even asked our name and reservation before asking us to wait awkwardly at the entrance as people were trying to leave / enter. Once sat down, it was clear that the staff were harassed and struggling with the tables. One of the starters (Camembert to share) and fish mains were sold out and not available. Our starters took 50mins to come out, after being chased with the staff. They were at least edible, bearing in mind one of the dishes were olives. Our mains finally reached us at 8.20pm, after chasing twice with the manager Corina who was helpful but also rushed off her feet. However, whilst waiting for the mains, a very stressed waitress threw a glass bottle into the bin behind me, which missed the bin and rebounded nearly hitting me and landing on the floor with a clang. This wasn't picked up nor did the waitress turn back to apologise. She walked off in a mood. Later on, we understand from a nearby table that this waitress verbally assaulted a customer outside the restaurant and had to be escorted off the premises. When chasing up with our mains, we were told by our waiter that it was going to be at least another 20mins, and that he understood if we needed to leave. This wasn't acceptable as were we due at a show in 50mins. Nothing was offered as compensation whilst we waited and we found that the waiter was rude and abrupt - most likely due to the sheer number of customers he had to deal with. The food that was delivered was barely passable as edible. I had the chicken schnitzel, which was barely cooked and the fries were cold and soggy. The pasta dishes were basic and only the vegetable curry seem to get a positive response. A number of tables around us were visibly annoyed by the lack of service and late food. We heard that there were three tables that got up and left without paying as it was so terrible. I saw and heard another table complain as they were leaving, and the table opposite with ladies that were celebrating a big birthday, one was in tears as their table had to order 3 times as their order kept getting lost. I'm fully aware that restaurants get very busy, and I don't usually complain, however, I asked to speak to the manager as Corina was dealing with another issue, and Louis was very helpful and offered to compensate on the bill which was the one positive thing from this evening in Browns. This was not the level of service I've had in Brighton, nor my friend in Cardiff. This branch has completely let the Browns' reputation down, and I'm more concerned for the wellbeing of the staff as they were unfortunately having to fight the fires with not alot of support. Also why it was so busy when clearly the kitchen, nor the staff could cope? I would say it's probably the worst dining experience, I've ever experienced and I would absolutely not recommend Browns at all.

We went Here for a mini group meet up and have to say, from the on set, it was really bad. We had a pre booked table. It wasn't ready, so was directed to the bar upstairs. We went there for a drink, after 1/2 hr, we were directed to a table and packed like sardines, we decided to look at the menus, and were given the wrong ones. So start again. Anyways we chose, and the server ORIANA was great, very bubbly, and great personality. The starters arrived, and I was actually shocked at the portion sizes, and the quality. After a while and quiring where the mains were, we were served with most of them, and totally left without a couple of dishes, again after quiring more than twice, we were given the mains, by which time everyone else had practically eaten. The main course, we counted 3 potatoes, which were not cooked properly, but due to the hunger we thought we needed to eat this. ( The turkey was cold, and in fact, all the dishes were cold, but the funny thing was, the servers came out with these plates with cloths wrapped around there hands and made it sound and look like they were really hot)Now due to the delay our booking at another place where we paid for with a deposit was lost and our deposit money lost. ( We paid for a deposit here as well ) Alex the manager came over and calmed the situation down and as we were in a rush to get out, We collectively decided to get out and pay the discounted bill which we were grateful for to Alex. It really is a shame, as we remember this place from many years ago, it was lovely, food was great, but now if this is what we got I have to say loads of improvement needed. The two people mentioned were a great credit to your organisation, and we weren't the only ones to complain, and poor Alex looked like he was fighting issues all over the place. As you can see from the portion sizes, they are really NOT substantial and any value for money. The quality of the food wasn't nice either, the nut roast, was like eating a short crust pastry only, As mentioned earlier the meats were cold, the potatoes, were not cooked properly. You've taken your position for granted as you're busy due to your location, I would NOT recommend this place and it's really sad to see as there is such a lot of potential here if the main ingredient FOOD is improved on and served the way it should be. Hospitality is what it says on the tin and in my personal opinion you seemed to have forgotten that on the day we visited.

A highly disappointing visit with painfully slow and inattentive service. We arrived promptly for our 1.30pm reservation, but were not seated until 1.45pm. We asked for the gluten free menu (a member of our party is Coeliac) but were given the festive menu, which caused confusion. We had to wait an age to place our order, and when our waiter did arrive he informed us he was sick but "not too worry, it wasn't corona". I ordered a virgin cocktail but was twice given an alcoholic version (I was driving some distance back to Suffolk so not appropriate to drink) and when I enquired to double check was assured it was definitely alcohol free - unfortunately it was not. This was swiftly rectified but the other drinks ordered were not delivered for some time and we had to chase on 3 separate occasions. Eventually, 45 minutes after we were seated, the drinks arrived. Our starters then followed. The food was edible but not really up to standard. Once the starters were cleared, we had another long wait for our mains. Finally, around 1 hour and 15 minutes after we were seated, our mains arrived. Again, the dishes were edible but not up to the standard we expected from your establishment. I had the beef sirloin and the Yorkshire pudding was overdone and dripping with grease. We ate everything as we were starving by this point, but it was not the lovely festive meal we had envisioned. Once the mains were cleared, we were once again, abandoned. There was no offer of desserts and we had to ask 4 times for the bill. When it finally arrived, we advised we were not going to pay the service charge. There were also several items on the bill which were not ours. We received a disingenuous apology from a rather uninterested member of staff which ensured a disappointing conclusion to a disappointing lunch. This was made worse by the fact that all of us had travelled some distance (myself 3 1/2 hours from Suffolk) to enjoy a festive get together. We expected more.

I did visit London yesterday with my friend and as working for M&B myself(chef at Browns) we decided to visit Browns Covent garden. The building itself is amazing and so decor. Shame that's all good I can say. Service was not great tho. We did order drinks and courgette fritters straight away while deciding what to have for mains. Been waiting more than 10 mins to take our order for mains. When fritters arrived I was literally in SHOCK! 7(SEVEN) courgette fritters on the plate . As a chef working at Browns and knowing what's the size portion should look and be I was lost for my words. Didn't know if to cry or laugh. (Size portion is 200g so please pass the comment over to kitchen staff) Told this to the waiter when she was taking plate away but she looked confused and didn't know what to say.. We've had 2 fillets and scallops for mains and both were ok. Waiter didn't come ask once during our mains if everything is ok. She asked when she was clearing our plates. Bit too late. Didn't order any desserts as I wasn't really in mood for that tho. Paid for my bill and left. It's nice place as I said before just shame about the portion size and the service. It definitely affected my visit. 2/5.

Super amiable and fun bartenders, but it's... Browns. So, you sort of know it's typical chain restaurant middle-of-the road ambience and drinks. The bar space is actually quite classy, but hugely let down by the fact there are no bussers! Every free table was covered in dirty dishes. Not once did we see anybody come and clear any away. As it is bar service PAYG, there should be someone taking care of bussing. Customers aren't going to bring dirties up to the bar. We watched other customers have to clean tables they needed to sit at. The cocktails weren't bad, surprisingly for the type of venue. Quite good and not sweet! My banana daquiri was actually pretty well made and properly balanced with lots of actual banana flavour in the rum (not sickly sweet artificial banana syrup). A shock in the UK. Still quite low ABV tasting, and small amount of drink but tasty. We only stayed for a single drink. That's basically what this bar is good for.

The setting is beautiful. The rest, not. When I asked our waitress how she recommended my steak to be cooked, she said if it was down to her it would be very very well done. Burned, but that was just her apparently. We waited for quite a while to order, which we were fine with, but when the waitress came up, she pretty much insisted we order our food as well. Then we waited for a long time for our drinks and the main course. When the waiter put my steak on the table, he asked if there was anything else I needed. "A steak knife might be helpful" I replied. The starter plate hadn't even been cleared away. The member of staff who I asked where the toilet was, sort if scoffed and pointed at the stairs. The steak wasn't very good in all honesty, and my partners prawn linguine was very dry. Generally, the whole place wasn't welcoming. Not impressed, as was the couple next to us.

We came to browns following a part 1 viewing of ‘The cursed child’. The menu was good and had great options, however following ordering our food we heard tables being offered a theatre menu/offer. We were not and although this didn’t ruin our experience, it did potentially affect our choices and therefore cost. I had the 7oz FILLET STEAK. GARLIC BUTTER SCALLOPS followed by the VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLÉE. The steak was cooked to perfection and the scallops were too, I would recommend this dish. The brûlée was tasty but was extremely rich, although it is a rich dessert I assumed it was smaller. This thing was huge. My partner had the PRAWN & DEVON CRAB LINGUINE followed by the APPLE, RHUBARB & RASPBERRY CRUMBLE. My partner described her main as ‘alright, but wouldn’t order again’. The dish was bland overall with little seasoning, not much crab either. The dessert was ‘delicious’

We had a booking for Sunday afternoon. We arrived and ordered from the menu. After we ordered we were told that half of our dishes were not available. A firend with gluten free requirements was told that they ran out of gluten free pasta and the dish can be served with bread. Starters arrived 40 minutes after we ordered. Mains arrived in batches after an hour. One steak was ordered medium, it came well done. We had to return and wait 10-15 more minutes. We were told that a waiter dropped the gluten free dish and they had to make a new one. It took another 15-20 minutes. Overall, service was slow, very slow. Waiters were polite but experience wasn't pleasant particularly when the bill is £45 per person. They offered us free deserts, which were surprisingly good. I was about to put 2 stars, but desert saved the day, 3 it is.

From the moment you enter Browns the staff are nothing but attentive. We were looked after by Leo on Saturday 28th October for a mid morning breakfast. Not only was he accommodating in allowing us to move to a more preferable seat in the restaurant, but he was also conscientious, warm, polite and friendly throughout our visit. He didn’t even need a notepad to remember the changes to our traditional breakfast order! We paid with birthday vouchers, which he too took before even asking for the bill and then offered a complimentary hot drink to enjoy whilst our breakfast went down. If anything it was a little noisy, but this is understandable given our 2nd visit was on a Saturday in half term. Leo and his service with a smile is one of many reasons whilst we will continue to return to Browns when we visit London.

We have been here before which was an amazing experience. However, the standards have dropped since the last time we come to this restaurant. Food was okay I would highly recommend the Garlic prawns but I wouldn't recommend the caesar salad the chicken was really dry, coffee ☕️ tasted sour like the milk was off. My drinking glass was dirty that I had to drink out the bottle. We ordered chips with truffles and got just plan chips. At times you couldn't find a waiter to order I had to go to front desk to order. As one of the waiters asked us if we would like dessert we said yes could you bring menu he then disappeared for 30 to 40mins and had to ask another waiter for menu again. They really need to pickup there game if they want to be a classy restaurant

Lovely restaurant and hosts were attentive and friendly. We went for a birthday afternoon tea, we arrived on time however found that we waited 40 minutes for the tea platter, and cocktails we ordered to arrive and another table who came after us received their tea platter before us. We had to call the host so that he could follow up on what had happened to our order. We also had to go back to the main reception area to get someone to take our payment as everyone barring one member of staff was apparently on break due to the restaurant anticipating the theatre rush. I would go back but service needs sharpening.

We waited 25 minutes for our table and were ignored by rude staff during this entire time. The waiting area was absolute chaos, hoards of people waiting for tables, no space to stand. Sarcastic and rude person on the front desk. Not a single smile from a single member of staff all evening apart from our waiter (Jay). Jay was very good and the only positive thing about our evening. We waited an hour for drinks. Table was booked for 7:30 and our starter was served after 9pm. The wine we wanted was out of stock. Glass of red wine spilt over one of our party. Food was average at best. Atmosphere was loud, chaotic, stressful. All in all, a horrible experience and will not be returning.

Had a large family reunion here and was really impressed with how professional and efficient the service was. Kyle had been so helpful and polite the entire time and always made sure everyone was taken care of with a table of 20 people, we were all super impressed with him! Food was delicious and beautiful. Would definitely recommend for a stylish, friendly and relaxed meal!

We invited some friends from the US to meet us here. It's a nice location, in the heart of the west end, and a nice place to walk into. We were warmly welcomed on arrival and taken to our guests, who'd arrived shortly before us, before being shown to our table. The food was lovely, but the crumble, that two of us chose from the prix fixé lunch menu when we ordered our starters and mains, wasn't available by the time we were ready for pudding Oddly, the waiting staff leaned over us to pass glasses, plates of food and cutlery to our guests, rather than walking around the table!

The atmosphere was beautiful, very elegant. Even the bathroom was beautiful! We had quite a wait, but the tea we ordered was worth it. I am gluten free, and the food was delicious with lots of variety of sandwiches and desserts for my tea. My only complaint, if I'd call it one, is that I would have liked 2 gluten free scones, instead of one. (I could never have enough of a good scone.) No powdery weird after taste like so many gluten free baked goods.

I love my local brown in East Sussex and so was only right to visit one whilst in London! As expected lovely as always! We visited on a Saturday night and it was very busy but staff were very accommodating still and really friendly! They continued to have a smile on their faces and make guests feel comfortable and welcomed. Even though the restaurant was full we didn’t wait long for service - drinks and food. Was in a group of 8 people for a birthday lunch in a bank holiday Sunday. Service was pleasant but a little slow and inconsistent. They forgot one starter and a main and had to rush it out. A few minor annoyances; roast pork was served with horseradish, when we highlighted this apparently they had run out of apple sauce. Also they said they had run out of nearly every beer on tap. The overall atmosphere was nice with pianist singing and playing.

Fairly average affair, seemingly very busy but confused as to what reason. The food is below average and overly expensive, painfully bland just above a school dinner. No flavour poor presentation, this place is in need of a major rework. Cocktails are painfully over iced. Staff seemed to be overworked, some being lovely but the majority serving our large table of 10 was very rude. The place is somewhat beautiful but that is the only positive. I would not recommend this place at all, save your money and go somewhere else.

Service was terrible. Whole section was left unattended in the middle of service. Looked as though there was a shift change over and it wasn’t handled very well. Tables around us waiting to pay and order drinks to no avail. We waited for 1 hour for our food and it was awful. Chips were stale. Bernaise was sweet, mayo was watery. The rib eye wasn’t cooked well. Not rested or properly seasoned. My linguine was covered in lime and lacking in crab but abundant in over-cooked prawn.

Worst food I had in UK. I had the fish and chips because I wanted to taste the local dish and my God, what a freaking disappointment. The fish was mushy, flavorless it was like eating dough without salt. Just horrible. The dessert was a little better, I had the roobois apple pie, not good but not bad either. The service was good. The entrance smells like old fish. I would not recommend going there to have fish & chips, maybe other dishes are better but this one was the worst meal I had in years.

The venue was decorated beautifully for Christmas time. The food was quite tasty and the kitchen were safely able to cater for someone in the group who is coeliac. We had pre booked, but they very clearly did not have enough staff! It took about 20 minutes to even be asked if we wanted drinks, and that was only after I went to ask someone. All the staff looked like they were being forced to work rather than earning a wage, like actively ignoring people who were trying to get their attention. The food was great. That's the only reason I'm giving 3 stars, but I won't be returning a real letdown all in all.

Arrived at 1.30 for a reservation- got seated at 2pm after waiting in a chaotic reception area. All in all was there for nearly three hours due to long wait times for food. Had the vegan festive menu and it was honestly terrible - parsnip soup was bland, roast potato’s over cooked, pastry mushy…I was shocked that it had been cooked by trained chefs. Really expensive and left us rushing like mad to get to our theatre booking.

Nice atmosphere. Scallops were wonderful. Starter salad of fresh mozzarella and mix of fresh / sun dried tomatoes not wonderful / oddest tasting tapenade ever. The blackberry bramble (cocktail) with rhubarb tasted only of cassis — skip it. Chicken pie with leeks - chicken flavorful, pastry cracklingly shatteringly fantastic. Flavorful. Too much leek though, but I wouldn’t skip it for that reason. The pastry more than made up for it.

We will back All the time when we are stay in London, Browns Covent Garden is Homebase for us. In this time it was again beautiful. The Bar, the food, the staff. Waiter Maxi served many many Peronies and many many burgers. He is a excellent member of Browns. We will back in November. André and family.

Very nice Afternoon Tea with a glass of champagne for 10pounds more but totally worth it. Also a nice experience if the weather is not so good. Would recommend to book in advance though.

Was in London on a city break and found this spot on tripadvisor. Service was excellent. Got the surf & turf with sweet potato fries. Great atmosphere, good selection of drinks. Would return.

We had a good experience here. Food was decent, nothing spectacular at least price point wasn’t mad. Service was standard. There was a live singer playing the piano. The interior decor feels a bit kooky with strange steps and corners but fun!would come back. More

The afternoon tea here is quite nice but nothing remarkable. I liked the sandwiches, the ham was especially nice. The sweets were tasty, but too sweet. None of us anywhere near finished them. They didn't have 2 of the teas when we went (and

The food is well cooked and fresh. I dined solo and had attentive waiters (not always the case for solo diners). I had the prawn and Devon crab linguine- pasta cooked perfectly, fresh seafood and tasty. The apple and blackberry crumble was

While having our meal at Browns we had a reservation booked for 10pm on a Saturday night we had booked this reservation months before and heard positive reviews and it was for my 21st Birthday. We had arrived at the restaurant and was made

I informed front of house when we arrived that one of our party was gluten free, who advised that we should tell our waiter which we did. We were shown to our seats which included banquette seating. When we went to sit down we noticed the

Went there for a Christmas event and I won't go again . The service is absolutely shocking . They have far too few staff for too many covers who are either rushed off their feet or not getting paid enough and have given up. Waited ages to

Visited restaurant with wheelchair friend. Following staff directions, knocked on rear entrance but no staff came. Had to go back to front entrance and ‘collar’ passing staff to open back door. Placed in seating lower area, told staff we

I booked this for my husbands Birthday and had two hungry kids with me and I would not recommend a visit at present . It should have been nice but was the worst dining experience I have had in a long time. We booked a table at 12.00pm.

Had table for 2 booked at 19:15, however despite the place being very busy they accommodated us nearly 2 hrs early. They were having to turn others away, but because we had booked we were welcomed with open arms. Once seated, we were

Lovely place, had scrambled eggs with salmon on toast, exquisite. Reason only 4 star for atmosphere is it was early and we're the first customers.

Lovely spot to drop in and get a cocktail. Booths are really comfy and it has a really nice old world, style and comfort approach to the bar area. More
