Recently married my partner of 4 years and was after advice, having just visited the AVAC centre on the 28th floor of the Trendy building where there is 1 lift and the air conditioning was off I was told they could not offer advice only process visa applications. So I went to the 1 place where I thought an Australian could get help my own countries embassy. Having arrived at the embassy I was stopped at the front door by a large Thai woman who likes to colour and put sparkles in her hair (mutton dressed up as lamb). She proceeded to ask me my reason for the visit and I told her I was looking for advice or information. Six times I had to repeat myself as she had no idea what the word advice meant, I elaborated until she knew why I was there then held up a sign with a phone number. The same number you call again and again only to get pre-recorded messages. She went further to tell me that I was barred from accessing my own countries embassy because my reasons for wishing to speak with someone were unacceptable. Fortunately after a heated exchange an Australian and American (by his accent) from foreign affairs exited the Embassy as it was 4:15pm and home time. They explained to me that our current Liberal government have outsourced all issues except Foreign Affairs and Trade. That the Australian Embassy in Bangkok can no longer assist Australian citizens on any issue except Foreign Affairs and Trade. When an Australian citizen can’t access their own Embassy seeking help it’s a disgrace. I spent 11 years living in Indonesia and it was well known back then that as an xpat abroad you were on your own, it seems nothing has changed over time. I have never been more disgusted to be an Australian, and question why we continue to tolerate such nonsense from our successive governments. Our government departments need a shake up and should be reminded who they work for. We would never be treated so badly if we were Americans. As for the jack boot Thai lady hiding behind the glass (feeding herself doesn’t seem to be a problem as it does for most Thai’s) her complete disrespect to an Australian citizen I wish her nothing but ill will and we’re the decision mine she would have her employment terminated on the spot as a reminder to all Thai’s at the Australian Embassy that it’s the Australian tax payer who pay their wages. I have never hated my own country as much as I have today

The new Australian Embassy is easy to find on your TomTom if you have one or Google the address. There is ample free parking at the end of the street past the Embassy entrance. Show your Passport and state your business enter via the electronic door and your particulars are then taken down inside the gate area. Once this is done place all your gear into the tray and like customs at the airport you and your gear are X-Rayed. Once this is done you enter the compound and then go to the first door on right and enter the building. You will be advised where to go by staff at another foyer window. Enter the Consular room get your number from the ticket machine and wait your turn. It took me 20 minutes to get my Retirement Stat Dec signed. You can pay by Cash Thai or Card Master or Visa. Only complaint one toilet for men and ladies that I could see. All in all great location expedient service.

I must express my disappointment with my recent experience at this diplomatic mission. With a wealth of international travel under my belt, I can confidently say that this embassy ranks among the least impressive. The location is far from ideal, amidst dusty construction sites. The excessive security checks and personnel rival even those at U.S. airports, and far surpass Australian standards. It felt akin to visiting a prison, with security procedures often defying logic. Despite requiring appointments, I endured a one-hour wait past my scheduled time, while those arriving slightly late were turned away. This service falls far short of expectations and is a regrettable misallocation of Australian taxpayers' hard-earned funds.

Yes Au immigration Bangkok, are very bad, as I am an Australian citizen caused me many problems. Because lady there refused to give my Thai lady a 6 month visa as she was to busy to talk to me because she had to go to lunch!! End result was that I had to sell my home in 3 month time span, and with delays caused by the bank I am still waiting for my money to arrive in Thailand! As Australia closes everything over Christmas break. It is time Au Immigration in Bangkok smarten up their act! But Australian Immigration can bring in 12000 Muslims into Australia, that never work or pay taxes but will not give my carer a 6 month visa!

It could be better as there is a very poor on line booking service (The online appointment maybe in a week or two). Some poor bloke was out the front saying he'd been robbed and had no passport and was due to leave Thailand in four days. He didn't have an appointment but they let him in and helped him out. I was there for a passport renewal but my photos were not up to scratch. Embassy staff helped me out by pointing me to a photo shop which had experience in Australian passport photos. I didn't need a return appointment and they let me back in to drop off the new photos. Thanks to the Embassy staff for their help.

07/05/2019. I went to Vote today for the Australian Federal Election coming up soon. Taxi dropped us at the door. We proceeded through 4 Security Screenings. Only took 5 minutes. Proceeded to the Voting Area. Proved who we were. Voted. And out the door within 10 minutes at most. The Australian Electoral Staff were Friendly, Efficient and Pleasant. The Thai Staff we encountered were Pleasant, Official and very Polite. We even chatted with a Security Guard for 5 minutes whilst we were being "buzzed" out through Security. A great experience. Thank You.

  • Iceberg Slim

Absolutely atrocious!!! Staff should be embarrassed for their lack of competence and empathy, shocking… simply shocking. The most flawed system where to even enter the embassy as a citizen is impossible. Despite explaining to the check in desk that we had an emergency that needed urgent help, nothing remotely happened. To make things worse a worker from within the embassy exited, I politely asked if he had a second, explaining our sitution to be dire. This man ignored us rudely and arrogantly. Is this what our tax money goes to?? Whatta joke

  • Tor G

Somethings are not to Australian Standards, no ramp access, no nappies changing facilities, not near public transport and no parking. Embassy case staff was very nice and helpful but security staff acted the opposite, badly spoken and weren't courteous to visitors. Building design is obviously subjective (sure felt like a high security luxury prison) but to sell the old location (right on a major road) to move behind Japanese Embassy was a bit 'cheap and desperate'. Did Aussies really need the money from the land sale?

  • Stu D

The woman I had the displeasure of being "served" by was more interested in having an argument than helping anybody. Self important and dismissive. Could not have been more unhelpful and disappointing. I was not there to waste anyone's time. I thought they would be able to answer simple questions like what specific supporting documentation would be needed. It's not a trick question. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't walk out as confused as I walked in but it was definitely a challenge. Hopefully it improves.

  • Graeme Brereton

Today I had a great experience at the embassy after calling yesterday. In the past I have had major problems even being denied entry. As an Australian citizen in a foreign country I would expect an embassy to be helpful as I thought they are there to help. Well no they are not, I never see an Australian staff member and have in the past been treated badly by Thai Nationals working in the Australian Embassy. The Government need sacking for the treatment fished out by non Australian staff in our embassy!

  • Ming-Hung Chien

Very unhelpful place, being told it takes more than 2 weeks to make an appointment where I am the only person in queue (note: not appointment in 2 weeks, rather it takes them at least 2 weeks to organise an appointment for you) I never thought checking calendar on which days a staff is available can take this long......... I agree with the most recent reviewers here, service is not up to scratch at this embassy, if you want to get things done, it will take long long time, be prepared.

  • Rod Brown

Thank you to the staff at the Australian embassy. Not only were they very timely and efficient in assisting me during my appointment to have a document witnessed but, also, helped me in recovering my reading glasses that had been left by me in a Grab car. This involved not only contacting the driver on my behalf but accompanying me to the Japanese embassy as the glasses had accidentally been returned there. There assistance, patience and good humour were appreciated.

  • Philip Ngan

I've had great experience with the staff at the Australian Embassy. If you need a passport photo, all the staff recommend that you go to 'Master Photo Sathorn' on Sathorn road inside the The Embassy Sathorn Hotel (just before Supalai Sathorn and the 7/11)—about 5-10 mins drive. They are specialists and it will save you a lot of wasted time, since there's a good chance your application may be rejected due to the photo not meeting Australian passport standards.

  • Istvan Golob

Just don't get it why Aussies make everything so complicated? The new embassy is just next to the huge construction side. No parkig at all. Definitely more security than staff inside paid by Aussies tax money. I just need a paper authored by the embassy. I went there and they told me I need an appointment. Call them is useless. Online appointments need to wait more than a month. If you collapse front of the embassy u can wait more then a month for a help.

  • Endless Winter

Call and or use website before making your way there, If you have urgent matters to be addressed, you are out of luck. Don't drive there, use the MRT at Lumphini, there is no parking. Disappointing service overall and frankly unhelpful. Empathy is low. Embarrassed as an Australian that this mission when relied apon is simply underwhelming for a tourist with time restraints. Everything happens a glacial pace ... don't expect help within a few days.

  • Martin Visocnik

The new Embassy requires appointments for anything with waiting queues of 3 weeks. Australians abroad require certified copies of the passport frequently and waiting 3 weeks for such a basic service is ridiculous and often debilitating. Mind you that the costs of the certified photocopy of the passport is outrageous (about A$70 each copy) when it being just a rubber stamped photocopy. Australians abroad deserve a better service.

  • Mark Kalisch

What efficient service. Passport renewal application in less than 10 minutes from entering to leaving. And they'll post it without extra cost saving the trip back to pick it up. Funny thing. There are no "No Parking" signs directly outside so I parked there. Within minutes a security guard came to tell me I could not park there but if I reversed 150m to the "No Parking" sign, that would be fine. Gotta love Thailand

  • Henry van Vlerken

The New Embassy is impressive & its very design makes a bold statement about Australia's place in today's world. It's a secure place for Australian personnel serving overseas. The Thai staff upon entry are welcoming and obviously well trained. The Australian representatives are knowledgeable, efficient and helpful to expats conducting business in Thailand. Well done Australia.

  • Gunter Kamp

I needed some papers notarized. The staff was very friendly and helpful but the fees are outrages. A$ 71 ( THB =1700) per stamp. My fiancee got the same papers notarized ant the Korean embassy for .... wait for it THB 150. How do you justify these fees? Do people in the need of consular services have to pay for the shiny new embassy ourselves?

  • John Missingham

I had the pleasure of dealing with K June from the consular office for my passport renewal. She was extremely helpful and used much initiative to try & make sure Canberra would accept my application. We had a slight problem with my passport photos but she came up with a back up solution. Great work, with good English & very helpful.

  • Stephen Hogan (施賀鈞)

Miserable prison complex. Hostile building and security that exemplifies Australia's fear of the world and our own growing authoritarianism. If "f off were full" were a building, this is it. All that wrapped up to look like a 70s highschool toilet block. An absolute embarrassment. Requires a booked appointment to speak to anyone.

  • mat james

Excellent service. The staff were so helpful and polite, from the security people outside, the office staff, even the vice consul who signed and stamped my papers. So friendly for a government office! The embassy is very easy to get to by MRT. A very good experience, much better than I was expecting. Thank you to everyone there.

  • Stuart C (BKK)

Australia's expensive and fairly ugly new embassy. The old embassy on Sathorn Road was far more noticeable, this new compound is tucked away off Wittayu Road and will remain hidden until the One Bangkok district opens. It's a high security environment and entry and exit is not simple but good service is provided within

  • Quinn Ramsden

I renewed my passport. The appointment was easy to get and the rep was proactive in making sure that my application had the best chance of not getting delayed. I got my passport so quickly I almost called to check to make sure it wasn't a mistake. My questions were answered and further support was offered. Great job

  • Alan Banfield

Embassy is now only for purposes of Foreign Affairs and tax payer subsidised Department of Trade for businesses. Cost of document notoriety is outrageous Embassy is now more than useless for Australian citizens and an incredible waste of tax payer money. Old Embassy was far more helpful

  • Pattraporn Nurse K.

Visa process is super fast when applying online as always. The staffs also assisted me last year at Songkran period (the busiest time!) to approve my application within a few days before my flight. It is pretty hard to contact them directly. Nevertheless, they do a pretty good job.

  • Terry W

Old embassy much better, this one is cold and clinical. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Ridiculous fees for all services now. Seems like taxes I paid for over 40 years is channelling into freeloaders going to Australia and I am still subsidising them in retirement.

  • Lawrie White

A telephone conversation was extremely helpful. All my queries were answered. I will be making my first visit in person. I'm told to expect a wait of no longer than 30 minutes for a document I require. Cost was advised. I couldn't ask for anything more. Great Service...

  • John Whyman

I was there one week ago and although I had some problems ( not embassy related ) I could not fault the service and friendliness of ALL the staff at the Embassy . Thank you all , it was much appreciated. Five stars out of five , and its bloody rare for me to do that.

  • Casey Zevenbergen

This is the first time I've been to their new location and it's high security. There were only myself and one other Aussie there. Service was good and I was in and out in 30 minutes. Remember this, if you need to go there you need to make a booking online beforehand.

  • El Sicario

I travelled from south of Thailand to go to the embassy only to be told I had to book a appointment which I had no idea about. Waited a day just to get in but was well worth it. Had my things sorted out in no time. Kudos to the embassy staff.

  • Stephen O'Callaghan

Thai staff are great, doing their best. BUT 4 week queue to "submit" passport application, followed by another 6 weeks. Thai passport 4 days. No parking! Japanese embassy has but no doubt Australia security designers are better than theirs.

Disgraceful service. I am ashamed to be Australian after my dealings with the staff at this Embassy. Such a waste of taxpayers money employing rude and arrogant staff when there are so many nice people that would love to work there.

A subtle reminder why we left Australia. The building aesthetic is unwelcoming, sterile and dehumanizing. There must be maximum security prisons nicer than this place. Passport service is efficient.

I visited here today and not surprised at the appalling lack of service - they don't care and it's exactly the reason I now live in Thailand

Service (renewal of passport} was fine, staff helpful and as efficient as can be, but the embassy building was sterile, devoid of character.

If you are attending for an appointment, ensure you arrive early for security vetting. Allow at least ten minutes prior to scheduled time.
