The biggest mistake of my life was putting Dad in this place for ‘rehab’. To make matters worse the whole saga could have been avoided and he didn’t need to be there. For an 87 yo with failing mobility and dementia, quality OTs and Physios are the key to life - there ARE experienced allied health pros that work WITH you, but you need to find them yourself and they don’t work at President. After one month of ‘rehab’ with Dad initially improving but soon acquiring covid, ALL physio was ceased - cancelled for good - on dementia grounds. For that reason I could only assume Dad’s cognitive decline be so severe as for him to be nearly palliative, which apparently he wasn’t. I’ve never seen a geriatrician poke and prod and rip off a patient’s wound dressing while asleep & expect them not to react! Geriatrician no 2, on ringing to inform me that Dad had just acquired covid, said I could take him home. Really? An 87 year old immunocompromised diabetic contracts covid under your care, (Dad had never had covid before so no one knew how he’d go) and their Specialist tells me I can take him home? Little did I know then that a hospital acquired covid infection would be the ONLY grounds they’d recommend home discharge - Nursing staff were kind and helpful, unlike everybody else. As for the Operations Manager, anything she said turned out to be wrong, from the ‘diabetic’ food on offer for breakfast, to being able to ask the kitchen to heat up their dinners delivered stone cold, to the hospital’s ‘special relationship’ with nursing homes. This place take you in for the private health fund $$$ - then cry poor, private hospital, we don’t have the ‘resources’. You had to beg for a wipe - I rarely saw disinfectant wipes or disinfectant of any kind in the hallway or shared bathrooms of the East Ward for over 3 months - . To refuse an offer of physio interaction of ANY kind for 4 months, even on Dad’s good days, is beyond comprehension. Not even a ‘move your arms around’ prompt was on offer. 5 months later, I did spot a pair of physios in Dad’s room offering standing assistance. By this time geriatrician no 3 was on board - no doubt he would have been informed that patient transport couldn’t take Dad because he couldn’t weight bare - Dad came in to President being able to walk, (badly, on every 2nd attempt with a pickup frame,) but he could stand up and walk none-the-less. Five months later, with great difficulty I got him out - bedridden, 15kg lighter with muscle wastage, severe neck pain and blind in one eye following covid. Oh, and thanks Operations Manager, for your constant threats to transfer Dad back to a public hospital for no medical reason. Macquarie Health, you probably won’t follow this up, but you’ll find my details at hospital if you choose to.

I was a patient from 1st to 8th June, recuperating from a total left knee replacement. The rehabilitation facilities, as in the land exercises and hydro are excellent. But as for the accommodation! I had my own room, with a shared bathroom. This was supposed to be cleaned after each person had a shower. What a joke! I almost slipped with my crutches twice in water left on the bathroom floor and outside the bathroom door. I had to ask staff to clean it up. Also during the night a patient kept removing the raised toilet seat, and I had to try to put it back, without falling. This hospital used to be for rehab. It is now nothing more than an aged care facility for dementia patients. They kept calling out at night. I had no sleep as I was ringing my bell for them. Thank God I could shower, dress and feed myself, as the staff were so run off their feet, they had no time for patients like me. The only help I asked for was taking off, and putting back on the support stockings. The staff talked to me, and seemed very unhappy with the situation with all the dementia patients, and racist comments they have to endure from some patients. When I have my next knee replacement next year no way will I ever go back as a patient to this hospital which needs a total refurbishment. In the words of a GP.' It needs to be razed to the ground and rebuilt" I have warned as many people as possible about ever going as an inpatient. An outpatient is fine. it is a great pity that I have had to write this review. When I was an inpatient there I requested a meeting with the manager, and one was organised. Surprise, surprise, he cancelled it without having the courtesy to re schedule. All my comments are valid, and service can only improve by management heeding this.

Forget about rehab if you’re frail and elderly you will not progress here and will be deemed in cognitive if you are unwilling to participate. Nursing staff are caring. Physios are ok although over cautious therefore advancing in this facility for the elderly is not easy. OT is completely negative and suggests impossibly large and expensive equipment for the home. Stated to me that my mum will “never walk again “. Bed manager Janine is rude and judgemental and interferes with family decisions and their loved ones. Wouldn’t let me talk to mum’s doctor without her presence! Never heard of this. Made it difficult to return home with my mum to resume her provided care services. Said that she did Hurstville Private Hospital’s doctor a favour by taking mum in after her accident! How outrageous! Very immature and unprofessional behaviour coming from someone with this title. Unheard of! She refused to assist me with paperwork to hand to our GP and also did not allow the Geriatrician to hand me any paperwork either. Many complaints from other patients as well about the lack of care. I think this place should close down. Needs severe updating and get rid of the obnoxious manager.

Over the past few years I have been in President private 4 times. During my time I have been shown nothing but respect, love, kindness and compassion. Thank you to ALL the amazing staff, rehab, cleaning, nursing, kitchen and management YOU ARE ALL NOTHING BUT AMAZING. I personally would like thank the Manager Jeanine Colbert for her professionalism, her warmth and help she has given me and for the most biggest hug just when I needed it to keep me going forward - Thank you. President private was there for me when no other rehab was interested to help and I will never be able to repay them enough. Words cannot express the thanks I’d like to give …❤️ I’ve always left the rehab positively and in a much better way 10/10 for me I have seen some reviews that suggest otherwise and that it should be closed down, this would be an injustice to the community I believe. Reviews can be written in haste and negatively put on which at times can be unfair so do yourself a favour if you need rehab come see for yourself !!!!! Allison sola Yowie Bay

President Private Hospitay at Kirrawee is a beautiful hospital serving the Sutherland Shire since 1970. I was told that due to my condition I would need to be in rehabilitation for an extended period. I arrived here on 8 September, now day 11 in my recovery and from day one it has been a wonderful experience with all of the staff, nurses, assistant nurses, doctors, physios, tea ladies, cleaners and receptionist. It is a credit to the Jeanie their CEO. Whilst the building is aging and hopefully will be redeveloped sooner than laref, it care is second to none. Their is a wonderful vibe amongst the staff which translate in to their motto “ where caring still counts”. Tony Mangioni

The Nurses are great etc.But the premises need a full revamp its as old as Jesus was.How about they invest some cash into the Hospital needs a full overall indeed its past its time old old & old. Also the Food the elderly need good nutrition also must be Hot not Cold. And a better variety of Meals Hit & Miss that is most days Chef should go back to Tafe is he Qualified I doubt it very much. That is why so many families are bringing there own food in as to give there loved ones better nutrition which they need. To the owners who ever they might be stay in there 2 to 3 weeks see how you all go with the run down Hospital the way it is. Not up to standard at all only the Nurses are.

I have been into President Private Hospital 3 times now over the last 9 years and each time have been very impressed with ALL the Staff from the Receptionist right through to the Orderlies and Theatre Nurses. They make one feel comfortable, safe and secure in that you know you are in good hands. They are a very caring and efficient team and I would recommend President to anyone. The Doctors who operate there and the Anaethetists and Theatre Staff are all excellent and professional. Even the sandwiches one gets for lunch seem to be home made and not typical Hospital Fare.

I cannot speak more highly about the mature part time lady physiotherapists at the outpatient department of President Private Hospital, Gymea. They are all very experienced in the exercise program they run for people like me who has just had surgery to replace my right knee joint. The variety of exercises in both the gym and the pool are first class. The ladies I have had most contact with are Glenda and Michelle and they both have a good sense of humour which gives one no time to get bored. The pool is heated and specifically designed for an exercise program.

The hospital is so old and now looks dilapidated it needs to be pullrd down and rebuilt. bathrooms are old and not kept clean. Records and paperwork not electronic. Patients not getting quality care they need due to understaffing. Private patients poked into small rooms. Staff and Nurses are polite and lovely and doing their best under these. antiquated conditions. Private patients paying a fortune to be cared for in this environment. Take my advice find another hospital to put your loved one in.

i had my k-wire removed there today, and somehow during the procedure after i received anesthetic i fell off the operating table and knocked myself conscious?(not un-conscious,but CONSCIOUS), which also left me with bruises on my head and on my hip. i dont know how could such thing happen in a licensed and accredited hospital like this..they asked me to stay for extra 6 hours before let me off. And said nothing about making compensation to this matter nor a formal apology. thumbs down!

I went there for work trial from one of job advertisement, i have been waiting for my payment like they promise, is been 6 weeks until now, the payment never come through & the manager block my number. What kind of hospital which is say caring, professional & dedicated team but actually they don't even care & try to use the Job seeker who have been suffering the impact from Covid situation for their own benefit. It's such a shame workplace to go for.

My auntie has been admitted, and was the worst experience ever, no toilet paper in the bathroom, when she asked one of the staff member at the disk, they just looked at her without a reply, then one answered with an attitude that she will bring her some, keep in mind it was a shared toilet, only brought one roll, food was disgusting 2 sausage with lots of tomtamto sauce, very heavy lid to left up, definitely not recommend

While it is a little tired looking in terms of decor, the staff at President Private are fantastic. The coordination of medical teams during my mum's recent stay was seamless. Her gerontologist, cardiac team, rehab group and discharge nurse all communicated so efficiently - we were always made aware of what was happening and why. A wonderful group of caring people working in a difficult field with aged patients.

Their motto over the front door states "where caring still counts." However their visiting hours are 3pm to 6pm. Most of us work 9 to 5. By the time I get home visiting hours are over. Can't say that this displays caring, at least for any patients with working relatives. Ok. Whinges as a visitor aside, I have also been a patient here and received good care. The staff seem friendly.

My daughter had a procedure done there this week. All but 1 of the staff are first class, so friendly and accommodating especially Sandy and sally (who I think was an agency nurse). I won’t give the night nurses name as she may have just been having a bad night. Food was nice. Facility while a little old and tired was very clean. I can’t fault the overall experience.

  • Kerry Sebio

Not the newest, shiniest hospital around but the care and professionalism of all the staff is first class. Everyone was so caring and friendly, despite being run off their feet with so many patients in for day surgery they still had smiles on their faces and made me feel totally comfortable and informed at all times. Can’t thank them enough.

Mum spent a long time in the hospital after her hip replacement and after losing my dad. All the nurses, doctors and trainers were very experienced, caring and supportive. She had a very difficult time mentally, but all the support from the people around her in the hospital helped her tremendously.

My mum has rehab in this hospital... fantastic work for the nurse... the only my mum concerned was the water taking long time to delivery.. overall caring hospital. The manager Margaret is very friendly person... the receptionist Natalie also very helpful. My mum now doing well.

  • Robert Venticinque

My Father was treated very poorly. His mental health deteriorated while he was there.I removed him early. I couldnt ever get a straight answer regarding his rehab. They didnt even walk him to the car, really a 91 year old man after having his toe removed. Shocking..

I have tried to call the hospital 3 times and no one picked up!!!! What kind of a medical facility is this where phones are ignored? Whoever is in charge of this place needs to look at an overall change, it’s fundamentally needed!!

  • Wendi Darmawan

My 4 yo daughter had a day surgery at the hospital. Caring and helpful staff. The room was clean and nurses kept checking on us if we need anything. I am grateful for their care and professionalism.

  • Mrs JPN

Shocking patient care. Unfriendly staff, tired accommodation and facilities, depressing food and a complete rip-off overall. Defininely not recommended.
