Visited Petland in Transcona this morning. After not being able to see the item we came in to the store to look at-not in stock, we walked past the paws salon and watched a little dog being groomed. Then I saw a metal bin with a number of massive rope toys in it-located at the end of the dog toy aisle-and looked at the tag on the bin facing the dog toy aisle. It said clearly in red, "Blowout!" Underneath that it said, "$6.90!" My husband and I found a "mammoth" rope toy that we wanted for our giant dog inside this bin while I pointed out the tag on the bin with the price to him at least twice. We double checked the price on the tag of this bin and proceeded to the checkout line. Once we got to the cashier she scanned the barcode and the price came up as $49.98! I told her that the price on the bin we got the toy from was clearly $6.90. She then asked a co- worker to go check the price while we waited. The co-worker returned about 2 minutes later asking if we found the toy in a different part of the store, to which I answered, "no, there were a bunch of these giant rope toys in there that were exactly the same- in a metal bin with a blowout tag at the end of the dog toy aisle". My husband then went with this employee to show her where we found the rope toy. The "Blowout! $6.90" sign had been removed from the bin and there was now a sign that said, "Mammoth rope toys $49.98". We then left the store without purchasing the toy. We realized what had occurred and we were disgusted with the actions of the employee. She insisted there had not been a price tag like that on the bin and that the $49.98 was the price of the toys in that bin. We had clearly seen the $6.90 tag and the employee tried to convince us that the "Blowout $6.90" price tag had never been there. As Petland customers we found her dishonesty highly disrespectful. Petland would have been better served as would we if the employee had simply been honest and acknowledged a mistake in the pricing on that bin. Instead she insisted WE had made a mistake. However, we had not as we had both seen and verified the price on the bin at least twice before selecting the item to purchase. As a result of this experience, we will no longer be shopping at Petland. We are not only dismayed at the way we were treated but also quite surprised because our experience of Petland prior to this had been very positive.

I went into Petland about a week and a half ago to purchase a 10 gallon tank, as the one I had purchased from Wal-Mart had sprung a leak. I purchased the Aqueon Basic Aquarium Kit 10 gal. When I got it home and opened the box I found that it had clearly been used: nothing was packaged properly, there were water spots on the inside of the tank and the hood, the filter had been used, there was dried food on the door of the hood, and the rear cut-out sections had already been removed. I took it back, they exchanged it, and I was quite pleased with this visit despite having to go back to get a new unused tank. A week after setting up this new tank, the power switch on the hood for the lights broke off. So I called Petland again and they told me to bring the hood in. I bring it in and they have a hood for me to exchange with, however, it was the same hood from the used tank I had just returned a week earlier. They told it had been "written off" and that they could give me that one. I was not pleased, as it was quit dirty and the food door got stuck half way when I tried to open it. So they left and came back with another used hood they said they took off of a display. It was dusty, and had food on the hood door. I was so pleased with my initial experience with Petland, but this second one just a week later was disappointing and unacceptable. If they want to give me a used item, that is fine, but at the very least I expect a discounted price, as I paid for a new tank kit and I expect to get a new tank. Just like I paid for a new lid, I do not want a used replacement. I will not be returning.

I bought a total of 9 neon tetras from this Petland almost two weeks ago. I didn't get them all at once, at first I got 3.. but the fish kept dying and I had to keep getting them replaced. So of that total of 9, I only have 2 left. They keep dying and I'm not doing anything wrong as far as I know. I'm being extremely careful with the transition from their tank at the pet store, to their new tank at our home. The tank water was also tested at the store but it's fine. Twice I tried to talk to the pet counsellor about what could possibly be going wrong and what I could try differently to make the fish survive. Both times I called he just kept interrupting me and said to bring the dead fish back in to replace them. He did not want to listen to me when I tried to discuss things I could do or what could be causing this. I asked if the fish could possibly be sick already too. They just don't care, these fish can just keep dying and they'll just keep saying bring them in to replace them. The other guy who works in the fish section wasn't very professional either and I didn't feel comfortable asking him for more help because I just feel like a bother, to all of them. I think if you're going to work in a pet store, you should actually care about whether the pets live or die. Maybe if I got a tiny bit of extra help or tips my fish could have survived. So now I have 5 dead fish that I'm not even going to return even though I can, because I'm so disgusted with their service and I would hate to see more fish die. I'm going to an aquarium next to buy my fish.

I’m only giving 2 stars because my first couple of visits, there was this very nice girl who greeted me, helped me and even went out of her way to recommend products as I am a new pet owner. However, on saturday... I bought this goat milk which was recommended to me but after a few conversations, I was told it wasnt really needed. She mentioned that I could return products if for some reason my puppy didnt like or changed mind with a receipt (Even if it’s open) I’ll take part of the blame because I was curious so I did open it... then realized too late I wasnt interested in giving this to my puppy. So I send my bf on tue may 22 to return it, he has the product and the receipt. Mind you, when I opened it... the thing was half full! For such a big container, it was only half filled. The older guy(bigger size, white hair) at the front told him no, there’s not enough product to in it to do a return ( Never used, just broke the seal) My bf comes home and tells me this so now, I come with him. No one was at the front desk so I go looking for an employee while my bf waited at the front, guess who it was? The same guy who refused his first return! He tells me the same thing, can’t return. Not enough product so I tell him that I am sure it wasnt used, weigh it. He weighs it and says close enough, no smile. No apology! So, he did make a point, there’s barely anything in the products they sell and this guy obviously does not know anything about what they sell or else he would’ve known it was like that. Not impressed, i’ll just stick with Pet Smart!

A well kept pet establishment, with everything you need for anything. My reasons for three stars is the employees are there to make sales, not to make sure nessacirly that the animal has a full and happy life. They have told me in the past that a bowl will be fine for a Betta Fish (5L Tank is min required for a good life) They also said that my Syrian Hamster doesn’t need a huge cage to be happy. They don’t sell any actual decent size cages for Syrian hamsters anyways. A Syrian hamster (teddy bear) needs a significant amount of space, and proper care. Don’t get me wrong there are people who care about animals there (this one lady, I think who is an assistant manager seems very passionate for proper care) but it doesn’t seem like it’s a whole wide around thing and that’s the problem with pet stores in general.

Just east of the Petland parking lot, lies a huge field littered, (and I mean "littered"), with paper. Today that changed...A set of grandparents, accompanied by their grand children, picked the lot totally clean. I got there when they were loading garbage bags full in the back of their pickup, so I was too late to help. Too bad the proprietors of Petland, and the Regent Ave Walmart, are too busy making money, instead of cleaning their lots of litter! I know that the fault lies with their customers, but retailers like Petland, and especially Walmart, should have employees clean their litter. Most of that litter comes from the excessive packaging they use on the products in their store, Anyway, thanks to grandma and grandpa, and their grand kids, for making Winnipeg cleaner...one small lot at a time!!!

Petland is knowingly selling sick animals to customers. I bought fish from there a few months ago that we're infected with a very deadly parasite when I brought it up to the employees I was scolded by the management for making their employees aware there was an issue with the fish. The management were informed on multiple occasions on the parasitic worm infecting their tanks and they believed a single dose of medication would be sufficient enough to sell to the public the very next day. I'm my experience the worm wiped out my tank in a matter of weeks and none of the medication worked. If I could give zero star for this location I would. From An experienced fish enthusiast.

Good selection of products. Prices are a bit high in my opinion but they generally have whatever you may be looking for, so it's worth the convenience. Staff have always been very friendly and fairly knowledgeable. Whenever I have had a question they couldn't answer off the top of their head they were very quick to go find out for me. They have a decent collection of small pets out, and they all seem healthy and well taken care of. My young son likes stopping in there when we are in the area even if I have nothing to grab there so he can see the ferrets. We have pet lizards and I can get most of what I need there, so it is a pretty regular stop for me.

Went to buy my betta from here since they seem to be in slightly better condition than at PetSmart. I do like how they don't have as many as PetSmart, so it seems more like quality over quantity. Every single one I saw had clean water and was interactive. Alex from the fish department helped me find some things I was looking for and bagged my betta for me, I really like how he asked important questions too, such as tank size, if it has a filter/heater, if any tankmates & how long it's been running. He made sure I knew what I was doing before selling me the betta and that I wasn't just going to toss it in a 1 gallon tank/vase or bowl.

Bought a vailed chameleon from them a month ago and they never told me it was pregnant I don’t even think they were aware so they never gave him the extra vitamins or calcium i was feeding him everything he needed after I got him and he stared acting weird he never really ran around in my hands like my last chams I had I came to find out that it has MBd and had it for months and they sold it to me sick and I had to spend $350 at a vet and put the little guy down The fact that you guys don’t pay any attention to your exotic pets makes me sick and I would highly suggest you go elsewhere for reptiles or anything

We got a 15 fish from them, and within a couple of days 90% of our fish had all died. Over 30 fish in total died. we took them all in and they told us we had over feed them. It's our own fault we can't get warranty on them. A week after this we still had fish dying so we took all our plant out to clean the tank, we put the plants in a separate container of water, after a couple hours we found that it was completely alive with worms. Our fish and fish tank were completely health before we added the new fish, the fish we got from pet land were contaminated with worms, and they told us it's our fault they died

Had an amazing time here, all the staff we met were extremely nice, friendly and helpful. We were able to find everything for our goldfishes and then came the time to look for some dog tags. The friendly staff called out a lady to assist us and the first thing I got was a unfriendly look and "what the heck you want" attitude from her. My joy was getting killed by her attitude so I said I'll pick them up at check out. I won't reveal her name but if she was having a bad day, I would have appreciate that she keeps it to herself and not pass it along to her customers. But overall, it was a good time there.

The girl and I came up with a plan for the fish tank i was building my kids and suggested to put shrimp in my tank and instead of there things I was thinking. Then sold me the food and stuff. But after I set tank up and 5 days later I said I wanted the shrimp and fish she told me that shrimp would be a bad idea. Really makes me wonder if they know what they are talking about. Like it was her idea. I didn't even know that you could get shrimp in a fresh water tank. Whatever. Thanks for the shrimp food I guess. ‍♂️

Great helpful staff, wonderful customer service. I come here every few weeks to buy mice for my snake. I do feel their Fish & Reptiles area is rather understaffed, I feel like I wait 10 or so minutes before there's a staff member that's able to help me each time I'm there, however they're always very friendly and know their field well. Their membership is also very worth signing up for if you're somebody who shops here regularly for things like food or supplies. TONS of savings to be had.

I went in to ask about hermit crabs, they usually have a salt water mixture but recently have been out of stock. The reptile/fish associate said to use aquarium sea salt so I did and one of my crabs is dead two days later. Previously when I asked the same associate a question about crabs he said something along the lines of oh yeah I did a course on hermit crabs but forgot everything about it, that should've been my red flag to go somewhere else.

Nice store, well lit with wide aisles. Lots of dog and cat supplies. They also cater to fish and reptile crowd. This store is a satellite Animal Rescue location for the Winnipeg Humane Society. I would have given it 5 stars, but the pricing of products on the shelves is a bit deceptive. The large bold price on the labelling is their Petland Member price. Big difference in price if you don't have a member loyalty number. It is free to join though.

Had a great time at Petland, got to see snakes, spiders and more. Staff has been way better than past years. All you need for your pets. No selection of baby pups or kittens anymore, although I think it's been that way for years. Great place to adventure to in winter if you run out of ideas or are bored of the local playstructures, to get your kids out of course. Be careful though, you might walk out the door with a reptile or arachnid.

One of my guinea pigs died a couple months back and his roommate was grieving. We went to the store to buy him another roommate. I have bought male piggies from petland in the past and never had an issue. So the other day I said to my husband about how big this youngest male was getting. Well guess what?!? He's a she and expecting babies. Kind of my fault for not double checking but as a pet store, you assume they know the difference.

The staff are always very helpful and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions and helped me make the best decisions for my pets. I have a dog, cat and 2 betta fish. I bought my fish about a month apart and each time I was not disappointed with the help I got with which tank kits and food would be good for them. My red betta I named Castiel and my blue betta I named Gabriel. Thank you to the staff at Petland on Regent!

My aquarium broke after a week of owning it and killed all my fish, I tried talking to someone so I could organize a exchange for one that's actually going to work this time but was told it's not their problem and not to call them again. Wish I looked through your ratings/comments section on your website before I came into the store to buy anything, at least that way i wouldn't have wasted my time and money.

They usually have what we need for our pets (though we do sometimes have to supplement our supplies with orders from elsewhere). The staff are friendly and helpful, and will walk you through how to use products that you're unfamiliar with (like our first canister filter. They also have animals for adoption there, which generally makes our visits twice as long as we need to visit all of them before we leave.

Good selection however second time I have been when the washrooms were closed. I contacted the company directly about this the first time (2 months ago) as it is not mandated due to Covid19, it is not part of the provincial protocol. I was told they would correct this and that the washrooms will be open for their customers. Two months later they are still closed, sign states for staff only, ridiculous.

Pease don't go to pet smart. Pet land is so much more caring for their animal. We went to pet smart to get our daughter some guinea pigs. And the person refused to hold any of the pigs. Due to the fact that they will bite. We high tailed out of that store to pet land. And Holly s**t. What a difference. There are way more animal and a more knowledgeable staff. And get this the guinea pigs didn't bite.

Customer service not that great. I went in for a product that was on sale on their website, it did not say ONLINE only so I thought it was safe to assume the store would honour it also. They did not. Also they told me it could be a different product when the specifications online matched exactly. When I asked to show me a comparison...she didnt do much. They were not helpful at all.

Love coming here as one of my local pet stores!! Staff are very friendly and my dog loves them very much. Also have a shout out to one of the guys that work in the fish area as he saved my tank with all his valuable information on how to set up a screen splitting up my tank for my new Green Tiger Barbs to grow and not get bullied by my very large already existing Tiger Barb fish.

Unfortunately with this location I've experienced nothing but headaches with inconsistencies of any information I may need. I was told one thing by one employee then went to trade in and took my second trip to the store that day and was told no we don't do that. They completely lost my business. With their lack of knowledge and straight up lazy changed by the minute 'policies'.

Every time I go to this location I am deeply disappointed. They’re always out of stock on everything I need, I’m constantly waiting a very long time at checkout and no one is around. Terrible customer service as well. When I have to go looking for someone to help me they seem in a bad mood. I’d go somewhere else but this is the closest location to me by far.

Walked around fish area for 10 mins as I wanted to buy some fish...had no one even offer help so I asked for some the lady said I will get someone there right away ..waited 10 mins no one came so I left. Went to best west pets and glad I did service was 100% better and the fish I wanted were $3.55 cheaper per fish so saved myself 17.75 plus tax

Please dont let the customers play with hamsters! Hamsters are noctural animals and people are not letting them sleep during the day. You guys should put them separately. I saw two girls messing up their habitat to find and wake up the sleeping little creatures. No employee tried to stop them!

I am a beginner starting a new aquarium. I had a long list and a lot of questions. One of the staff Andy helped me find everything on my list and offered lots of good advice and answered all my questions. Very good customer service and I large fish section with a nice variety of live plants.

Super friendly staff. Pets seem to receive better care than most other chain pet stores, particularly the reptiles, i find most chain pet stores don't give out/give reptiles proper care or are uneducated about them. Was super happy to see the reptiles on proper substrate, and proper diets.

Always a treat to go to petland the staff are kind, polite and knowledgeable. I have been building a our classroom fish tank since the summer hours of research and planning. Petland fish department was a great source of information and products. Great place, great people, great time.

Fish department has gone down hill. Staff are unhelpful. Used to always come to do business with Jessie but it seems he no longer works here or has less hours. It's a shame, he was extremely knowledgeable and knew how to treat and keep fish far better than what I'm seeing lately.

It's just a "magical" experience going to Petland and none of the 5 employees by the counter welcome you or ask if assistance is needed. But I guess since the store was empty higher priorities had to be done like cleaning the front desk rather then acknowledging a customer

They do have a decent selection in their bird area and supplies better than other stores but their prices for dog harness’s and treats food is much more expensive than more than other stores I paid $15 less at per valu for exact same brand of harness for my dog!

Very large selection of pet supplies and PETS! Ended up adopting my first kitten from this location and am very thankful and happy with everything overall. Prices seem to be reasonable. Very clean store and the staff there are very nice!

I was looking for a fish tank. They have slim pickings and prices are $10 - $15 more than others I found. If you want a discount you need to be a member. Didn't feel staff was very friendly until you leave the store.
