I have never posted a negative review before but this compelled me to write. On Thursday July 28, I was in the Southgate location. I purchased chicken breasts that were on sale (not discounted, just regular on sale) and some steak. The total price was $20 ($15.49/kg I think) The best before date was July 30. I got home (30 min. drive, a/c on, meat surrounded by milk and other cold groceries. Spent 15 years in the restaurant business so food safety is well known to me ) and put my groceries away. There was a slight odor but I didn't think anything of it. The next day (July 29), my fridge reeked. It was terrible. I returned to the store, with he chicken in a cooler. It was not just a little off...it was awful. No apology was offered. I went to the meat manager to see if i could get the chicken replaced at the sale price and was told no. Again, no apology. I would be mortified if a department under my supervision put out meat that had the possibility of going bad several days before the best before date and would be doing anything I could to assure the customer that this was a one off occurrence and was not the norm. No such assurances were given and there was no responsibility taken for the incidence. Will not return. Very disappointing interaction.

Today was not the first time that I have been frustrated/disappointed with this location. I got in line in the express lane (1-8 items) with three items, the woman in front of me had what I would estimate was around 30 items (she filled up the entire conveyor belt and the items were not large). After waiting much longer than I should have based on the lane that I was in, (the woman behind me was so frustrated she left, and I would have as well if tomorrow wasn't a holiday), the cashier did not even acknowledge my frustration, or apologize, or even give the usual "have a good night" or equivalent once my transaction was done. All this happened while a woman who appeared to possibly be a supervisor or manager (I make that guess based on the fact that she was carrying a deposit bag) wandered around, looked at me, looked at how many items I had and how many items the other woman had. My guess is she could have jumped on another cash and rang up the line of people that was continually increasing behind me. Not only did she not do that, but she did not even acknowledge the frustration that was clear from my face and crossed arms.

I shop always at Metro. They have what I need. I do like the prepared fruit for a refreshing desert and my teens love their pizzas (me too, when I run behind with work and it's too late to cook a larger meal). Great taste, and very reasonable in price. I like the staff who are always friendly from the nice lady who greats you when you come in, the lady who works in the produce room cutting fruits and veggies for display, making my life easier (I dislike cutting fruit and veggies) to the usual young men behind the deli who are in the deli. Its nice to see the same people working, say hello and when you leave tell each other "have a nice day". I truly like thus Metro they are always stocked with what I need and great customer service. THANK YOU METRO....

Everything I've gone to look for has been in stock. Very fair prices and excellent competitive sale prices. Deli is always clean and stocked and the attendants are friendly and have never had a problem meeting my requests. Produce I've bought has always been clear of bruises and acceptable in appearance. Aisles are clearly labeled and aren't crowded, product is properly faced and stocked. The store's clean and uncluttered and the cashiers are presentable and friendly. I've been going to this location since they've opened and would venture to say that in that time, it seems now is when they've been at their best. Thanks, Clayton

It's pretty standard for a grocery store. Like what separate grocery stores apart? What sets this metro apart? I went on Saturday evening and the was almost no lines. The produce looked fresh and the meat was fully stocked even though it was a long weekend. Ample parking on the side and front of the building. The cart I got didn't have a funny wobble like many do and the floors weren't noticably sticky or anything. Highly recommend this grocery store if you are looking for a Metro and are in the Hunt Club and bank area!

This Metro grocery store is one of our favourite places to shop. 1- The staff are all super friendly, helpful, take you to the shelf. 2- Prices are the best, the items we want are often on sale, and pricing is better than the other stores. 3- Parking is always available and not clogged and dangerous like another local store. 4- Manager is very friendly and pleasant, and she actually listens and obviously looks after her staff, as they are happy and relaxed, which all makes for pleasant shopping. 10 stars

  • david dulude

Im edting this review after finding No Frills i found out how stupid expencive this place is, the prices are insane, no frills i can get food for an entire month for less than 400$ but here, i bought spices, bbq sauce and some other stuff and it was around 60$, where at no frills i can get it for super cheap, this place does have a place in my heart because it was the first store i went to as a child, and i will continue to go for loyalty sake, but i wont be doing my monthly food pickups here

  • Jordy O

Absolutely terrible. I went last night and the meat section was virtually empty. I ended up grabbing some prepacked lunch meat, which was obviously stored wrong at some point, and started to go bad. It was under the label so I couldn't see at the time, but makes me wonder how they store the rest of their products. Add my experience from about a year ago where I bought a bag of popcorn that turned out to be 6+months past its "best before" date and I can't see why I would ever go back

  • Tonya K

Absolutely love shopping here. Most of the staff have been here for years and even throughout covid, they provide a level of customer service I haven’t experienced at the other stores in the area. They ensure that the self checkouts and cash areas are sanitized after each customer and the store is very well maintained. I’ve tried other stores in the area but I’m never as comfortable or pleased with my shopping experience as I am when I shop at Metro

  • Kwame Akyem

This store is advantageously located. Flanked by three popular streets- the Bank, Hunt Club, and Albion, it is easily accessible from the city centre and the suburbs. There's a free spacious car park, and a bus stop nearby. The store carries a wide range of groceries and household supplies which affords ba one-stop shopping experience. In case one needs to fill a prescription, Shoppers Drug Mart is immediately adjacent to Metro - very convenient.

  • Julian keemless

Never had an issue coming here, they have a 30% rack no one seems to know about it. I you can find a lot of stuff on there for a great deal and often 2-4$ for items normal 7-10$. Staff good, no complaints. Location is great, parking has never been an issue either. The food they make in house goes on sale between 5-7 I'm quite certain, usually for about 5-10$ depending on what it is. South keys metro is good for shopping, just expensive at times.

  • Steven M

This is a great location - bright and fresh looking and new shelves and things to make your experience more pleasant. They have lots of variety of products and fresh produce is exceptional - staff are friendly and very courteous. They tend to have excellent sales, especially in bakery and grocery dept. Plus, you can get meat reduced for quick sale, which is awesome and helpful. A good choice to go here.

  • FREE PALESTINE FROM ZIONIST PIGS (Neander Valley)

Good service, but the prices have gone up big time and tonight, the place closed 20 minutes early, in spite of the website specifically saying open tonight until midnight (and closed tomorrow for Canada Day). Luckily, I had time to bicycle over to Loblaws and get the few things I needed. In summary, I chose Metro first, and you let me down. Boo-urns.

  • Abdalah Dia

About as good as any Metro can be. Has stock, has the stuff you need. Not going to give it a lower score just because it's more pricey than most places, kinda have to accept it when you shop here. Staff are nice enough at cash and on the floor if you need a hand. Typically not that busy, even though I'd say it's one of the busier locations.

  • Maeve Hazel

This location has really shaped up over the years. We used to go here all the time for produce until Walmart opened up their own product section. I still come here sometimes whenever I’m bored and looking for something a little extra bougie to try out from their bakery or fridges. It’s always very sparkling clean and organized.

  • Matthew Blake

Meh I like metro. It's a grocery store. It has everything your looking for. Staff this time around were a little rude. My only issue is usually that the quality of food is same as say a fresco or independent but price way higher. As opposed to loblaws where if ya pay more it's cause they have way more stuff/ higher quality.

  • Dave Jelly

One of our go to places for groceries. Staff is always pleasant and helpful, and the store is clean and well stocked. Produce is usually fresh and quality is fine. It also tends to cost more than the discount grocery franchises but there are always some deals to be had if you look for them and check the flyer.

  • Colin White

This place is by my father's house and has always been amazing they renovate every few years and a selection is perfect. I was there for last minute Christmas things and a couple cheap microwave goodies that I like I was in and out during the Christmas rush in under 5 minutes so I'm always impressed

  • Steven Arrighi

Went to buy some muffins, I had previously bought muffins from loblaws they were amazing . Figured they would be the same at metro....this was a very bad assumption. They were horrible. Dry as hell. Bought some strawberry cheese Danish also horrible. Their baked good suck. Do not buy them

  • Marc Scrivener

Great place to shop. The store is always clean and when you go for specials from the flyer they always have it in stock. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and when you ask them where something is they will take you and show you and not just tell you what aisle to go to.

  • Harris Harris

Pleasant atmosphere for grocery shopping. Sad to see increased use of self check out, but they have maintained the cashier check out as well. I prefer to use the latter as stores aren't offering discounts for customers taking over employees role. Sad future in such circumstances.

  • Adam Bouchard

Ah it's pretty expensive for most items. The chicken and wedges deal is solid though. Checkout is easy enough most times. they had a big line one day but the cashiers are friendly enough (although some are quiet loud on multiple ocasions.. well blame that on the plexi)

  • Sohrab Ebrahimi

it's the typical Metro grocery store where everything is shiny and neat and expensive LOL in all seriousness I like to location very convenient and then there's the massive parking lot for people to park although it can get a little bit hectic all in all 4 stars …

  • Desiree Beige

This store is NO LONGER 24 HRS. They make pizza in the deli that is 13$ for a large two topping made to order pie. They also sell slices for $3.99. I quite enjoy it! There is also a worker named Keith that is literally the loveliest human being on the planet.

  • S G

Metro is a great place to buy fresh produce. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I had to buy maple syrup for my family. The staff helped me choose the best maple syrup I could get in that place. The checkout was smooth as well. Definite recommend.

  • Joy

This is one of the few stores to carry gluten free foods. The selection is excellent and not terrible dry rice breads just great quality Udi's breads and muffins! I love it! Thank your store I can conveniently get food when I need it! Yahoo!!!.

  • Dan Sweet

Great grocery store for the size. Does seem to be missing some odd items that we are used to. The parking is often difficult to navigate because of the design of the parking lot. Otherwise staff are great, very clean store, well stocked.

  • Madeline Turriff

I was 15 minutes late picking up a TooGoodToGo order. The people at the service desk said they had it but because I was late they refused to give me the order I had already paid for, saying they didn’t want to get in trouble with their

  • Devon Babin

All depends who you deal with. They have some good employees. Others, however, have a lot of attitude. Too often have I left being made to feel stupid. I work in the area and used to go to the store a few times a week. I've stopped.

  • malcolm peers

It's very over priced. I purchased a loaf of rye bread a month ago from in front of the deli. I didn't notice a mouse had chewed (hole was shredded like confetti) a hole in the bread bag. Tossed the bread and vowed not to return.

  • Ken Kowey

Caroline in the Bakery Department was incredibly helpful as we were wanting a small Cake for my Mother in law’s 100th Birthday celebration gave us great advice and provided the “Bling” to go along with our provided cake topper.

  • Marie Saint Onge-Davidson

One of the best grocery stores in Ottawa with an excellent array of fresh produce and products, incredible friendly/helpful service, and super prices! Check out their regular sales as well as their vegan/vegetarian section!!

  • A B

Fresh produce and baked goods. Always stocked and neat ... A good place for late night shopping. Best thing I would say about this store is, is fast checkout no matter what time you come here... very friendly staff.

  • Andrew Raff

Always friendly staff, and pretty much have what I'm looking for in groceries. Don't be looking for anything other than that though.. they don't have clothes or things like that, like other places I could mention.

  • b ho

#parking spaces are proper here!!! Findlay Creek & Trainyards have shrunk the #parking spaces and row spacing so so bad! I'm starting to collect Air Miles. By 2036 I shuid have enough miles for a trip to Vegas yo

  • PPcaca

Much better than loblaws imo. You dont need to walk a mile to find the cereal isle , or if you forgot to grab bread say, you again dont need to walk a mile to back track. Other than that no name bagies are cool.

  • Sharlene Crawford

The staff are friendly. The store is clean. The fruits and vegies are fresh. I have moved away from the area but I miss shopping at this store. The metro I have in my neighborhood is dirty and disgusting.

  • Mr GQ

Used to be L.O.E.B... a clean and great place to shop with good prices. They kept the integrity up with Cleanliness and great customer relations and service... Wish they were located in the country …

  • Gabrielle Case

Great service!! I found a bilingual cashier who was really happy to practice her french (yay!), clean the self-serve between each clients and great selection of products! One of the best Metro I went to.

  • Catherine Vandahl

Excellent service and now has E.V. charging stations!!! People who do not own E.V’s should learn to respect and park somewhere else. Shopping complex should put a sign to leave space for E.V vehicle’s.

  • Louis Mathurin

Insta cart did our shopping for us here but I've been there personally. Good clean store with ample parking. Friendly staff. Store is clean. Got basically what was ordered . Pleased will return .

  • Capt Bob

Its a small old school metro. Expensive compare to the Produce Depot across the street for fruits and veggies. Freshco is also much better on the pocket book, is 3km away but worth the drive

  • Jason

Not a bad shopping place, love it when they have samples! Been there a lot. My sister works there and applied not too long ago and there's this one manager who is so comedic and supportive.

  • GREGSTER JEROME (POETICCOLORS)

Very great customer service. The people are friendly the fruits and vegetables are always fresh..there is always a good sale..week day sales can surprise you..awesome place for groceries

  • Claudette B

Great Metro, produce section very fresh n well set up. Bakery & meat deptartments was very well laid out. Very personable and knowledgeable staff. I highly recommend this store location.

  • Steph Ames

Not the cheapest shopping but good selection and a great bakery. They remain a grocer so you don't have to deal with isles and isles of non grocery merchandise. And they give air miles.

  • Belinda Warren

Metro has fairly good prices and weekly specials, friendly staff and lots of parking is available. They used to be a 24 hour but according to google search they are now open 8 am-12 pm.

  • John Paul Handrigan

Good selection of produce, fruit and meat, but similar to other Metro stores I find the prices to be a little high. This is especially true when comparing to other large grocery chains.

  • Sarah M

Thanks staff for being awesome during this difficult time. And thanks to Tina who is probably one of the most efficient cashiers I've ever had. Also, this store is super clean, kudos!

  • Craig Azar

Nice small style grocery store with everything you need. Great to avoid the mega stores and the crowds. Many of the staff have been here for a while and are friendly and professional

  • Retro5girls

In Ottawa, Metro has the freshest and best quality for produce. Prices are a tad bit higher then most groceries stores but cheaper usually means low quality. That's why I love Metro

  • Rashid Maani

This Metro is my go to store for meat and chicken, specially their rib steaks. As long as it's the Canadian AAA, NOT the Mexican beef, I'd stay away from that! Happy BBQ season!

  • Brennan

This is a great location. The store is always very clean and organized and the employees are always very friendly and helpful. I find there are good discounts here regularly.

  • Luna neman

Staff are very professional Store is always clean and organized Keith is amazing! Super professional and provide great advice for food options! Definitely deserve a bonus!

  • Louie S

I love the ambience and the people there are really friendly. Got the chicken lunch deal for $15 but the chicken wasn't amazing although the potato wedges were fantastic.

  • Andrew McDonald

Came in here to buy some milk. None of it was expired. But it was at the far end. I hope that one of these days stores might put milk closer to the front! Clean store.

  • J Pat

Timeless. I hope this place never changes. Tho you could have more variety in your hotcase and the wedges are almost always empty lol but they'll make more if you ask

  • Pierre Fakhouri

Parking is great! Store is quite big with a huge produce section! It also seems new, compared to the Metro located on McCarthy Road. Prices are also great as always!

  • DrLaggyBro

Usually this place is like in-and-out, clockwork. But i went to get lunch meat and this lady was taking forever to cut it, i couldnt move from the station either.

  • Bill Murray

Clean, well run store, not too busy, pleasant staff, in general good prices to be found here, lots of free parking, excellent "potato chip" selection, open late.

  • Nicolette Kaplan

Good quality items, great vibe, friendly staff... 4 stars only because it's a smaller location so it's not always easy to find all the items/brands I prefer.

  • Raeda Masri

Convenient hours and very friendly staff. I love to buy flowers from this location. One star removed because it is a little more expensive than Food Basics.

  • Jo Anderson

I was only in there for a little bit to check something out and it was a little pricey in there. Maybe watch for sales if you're on a smaller budget. …

  • Michel P

Friendly deli person who took the time to show me everything that came with the family deal, and where to find the items. Clean store and quick service.

  • Maher Jebara

I have been coming here for many many years and surprisingly the staff are always friendly. Overall a higher than average metro compared to the rest.

  • Brad Jackman

Excellent selection and prices are what you'd expect. They have a deli area and pre made food for take out. This location also has 6 self checkouts.

  • Enrico Camasso

Quality products. Must be savvy shopper as some prices are a bit high. They do carry products other stores don't. Friendly staff anytime I've went.

  • masterRSH

Love this place recently renovated looks fantastic with well stocked fresh produce deli/bakery/meat/dairy/grocery options and service is good too.

  • Bern Visser

Good retail grocery store. This one is open until midnight, which is handy! Reasonable prices, good selection in produce and meats. Clean store.

  • carey oliver-machado

Never will be shopping here for fresh products again cut open a pepper I bought yesterday and it's crawling with live bugs absolutely disgusting

  • Naoko N.

Very rude and not customer oriented. Never apologize even their mistake but instead the staff yell at you when you stand up for your right.

  • Laura Cruikshank

A really nice man that worked there showed me whereto find what i needed without me asking, he came and ask what I was looking for thanks!

  • Cindy kendrick

Service was great. They have a cold cut that family loves ❤️. Tuscan turkey. I hope they keep it in stocks. Ingredients are pronouceable.

  • Brigette Fraser

Excellent place for fresh fruits, and vegetables! Variety of other foods, prepared cooked meals! Clean place and friendly service! …

  • Cameron Wrighte

Very friendly staff. Especially Matt in the deli, he was extremely nice and helpful when I needed a last minute deli platter. A+ service!

  • Brittney & Rocco Micucci

Typical grocery store but staff are not very helpful. Deli people are a bit careless. Good bread though. Selection of items is only okay.

  • Cris Baets

A great local grocery store. I always find the store clean and the staff helpful. Decent sales and a good selection of ice cream treats!

  • Hana Dib

I like it so much,, its big and cleaning,, you find any thinks,, friendly workers,, good price,, and make offer's good... …

  • Emily “Snakey” R

Their takeaway meals are affordable and tasty and slightly different every day. Most other stuff is cheaper at Wal-Mart unfortunately.

  • Easy E

I got to Tim's a few times a year. If you can't keep chocolate dip donuts on stock I'm not sure you can call yourselves a donut shop

  • LJPB

I really like the variety and quantity of products also, the slightly older products for patrons who cannot afford the full price.

  • Laird Swan

By far the most marked up food out of all grocery stores in Ottawa. Self check out easily cost many young students part time jobs.

  • C B

This is one of my favorite metro stores. They always have fresh looking food and the store is kept very clean and organized. :)

  • Amani A

Update your hours please. If you are closed the put that you are closed. So people won’t drive all the way to your closed door…

  • Isaac

Friendly staff clean store. Larger discount produce section would be nice. Good place to usually find Haagen-Dazs on sale. Lol

  • Samantha Galvez

Very good place to find your groceries lots of varieties, fresh fruits and vegetables, the pizza they made is also wonderful!

  • Juhnun Oh

Has some good selections. Would be better if it was cheaper. But then again... we don't seem to have much choice these days

  • Imma

Keith the cashier is very helpful and I believe he had my interest at heart. He is always happy with a good attitude. Imma

  • Steve Buell

Nice clean grocery store. It feels a bit crowded and just a little disorganized. Otherwise, it's a decent place to shop.

  • Nigel Jay Bachmann

Prices are higher than the competitor. But good selection and frequent sales. Hot ready to eat foods and great produce.

  • Adam D

This is a pretty good Metro. I bought a chocolatine one day and it was delicious, so the bakery knows what it's doing

  • Mark Taylor

Good grocery store. Always friendly staff and full shelves. My favourite is the bakery and the great cheese bread.

  • Sulanis

The staff were nice, but the prices were solely based on how much will people pay before they stop shopping here.

  • Arkadi Romijn

Prices aren't all great, but not bad either. Sales can be very good, and overall the quality is worth mentioning.

  • Kimberly Price

Always friendly professional customer service! Great prices and location. Well followed health protocols …
