This 1star review is purely for the birthing unit specific midwives who were in the room to deliver my baby and some of the doctors. The midwives in the antenatal clinic, special care unit and maternity were genuinely amazing and worth a review of 5stars. I gave birth last year and this experience was my first pregnancy. My water broke at 5am on a Friday morning, I called the hospital and they told me to go in. It was about 10am on the same day where a doctor came to see me and insisting that I be induced because my contractions did not start yet and it’s a Friday and it would be very hard to get a doctor in to deliver my baby on the weekend. This is where I felt they were working around their time and not approaching this with nature doing it’s course. As my baby was small this was why they insisted I needed a doctor present for the birth. I had the doctor come in many times to insist the induction within only a short few hours and had other people come in the room to try to convince me, I refused each time. I asked one of the friendly midwives in the birthing unit who was there during the day for tips on how I can bring on my contractions. She seemed to understand my reasons of not wanting to be induced straight away and gave my husband and I some tips, without a doubt we did those things and my contractions started around 1pm, the same day. Later when my contractions were getting very close I was taken to the birthing suite and that’s when I met the two midwives who were going to help deliver my baby. They clearly were not in favour of my no medical intervention unless in an emergency approach, they also did not let me birth in the water or in any position other than laying flat on my back with a monitor strapped around me. This is completely against gravity and no alternative given. I felt that I was going into this experience with no one on my side other than my husband and then felt adrenaline (fear hormone) kick in. The midwives told me to stop moving when my contractions were happening because the monitor kept moving, one of the ladies shoved her fingers in me without even asking for my consent to see how much I dilated, which was the most excruciating pain I had ever felt, this also seemed to do nothing to any advantage and I would of declined if being asked. Also, the two women kept bickering between each other most of the time. One of the ladies kept insisting about some sort of medical intervention and I refused and she then looked at my husband and said ‘is she always this stubborn?’ The ladies were then telling me that I don’t know how to push and that I’m doing it wrong. From what I recall they weren’t even guiding me either. I was filled with adrenaline in that room, no wonder I couldn’t push, I didn’t want to be there or if given the choice I would’ve chosen other midwives who I encountered during my time at the hospital to be there instead. My baby was clearly in distress towards the end, they called the emergency button and the doctors and staff on duty came in, the doctor delivered my baby through episiotomy and vacuum, then it was either after the placenta delivery or the next day at check up the doctor told me for my next birth I should really consider taking the epidural because I can’t tolerate pain well. I’m justgrateful these people helped deliver my son well and safely. This experience made me feel that I couldn’t birth, that I couldn’t do one of the things generations of women use to do, birth without medical intervention. Every time I went to sleep I kept encountering the experience in my mind and felt so ashamed. It wasn’t until after I was telling people that I refused to have a second child and explain that apparently I can’t do it right unless I go through medical intervention, that I came to realise that this narrative was very untrue and that I was treated poorly during one of my most vulnerable times in my lifetime. My son was put into the special care unit due to him being underweight, all the ladies in that unit were heaven sent and really took my mind off that experience.

The staff at the hospital are very good and compassionate. The hospital however has little value for the patient's time. They will give you an appointment but will make you wait hours before anyone will attend to you. I have had the same experience on three days within a week. On the first day, I reported to the ED at around 2pm with a dislocated finger. After 3 hours in the waiting area I finally got someone triaging my problem. But it was another 2 hours before the injury was attended to which required a scan and local anaesthesia to put the finger back in place. This was all done by 7:30pm. But then the agony. I was told to wait as an Orthopedic would see of I needed a surgery. This meant I could not eat anything until after the surgery. So here, I was waiting on a hungry stomach from mid-day with a view I was going to operated shortly. There was no communication ther after until 11pm. When I sought input, I was told the Orthopedic had left for the day and that I needed to return 7am the following day on an empty stomach. So I went home, had dinner slept for 4 hours and returned to the hospital next morning (Sunday). After reporting at the hospital, I was made to wait for another 6+ hours before I was finally taken for surgery at 1:30pm. Surgery was under local anaesthesia and was done in 20 mins, and I was discharged from the hospital at 3:30pm after being kept under observation for an hour. A surgery that took under 30 mins on local anaesthesia could have been planned much better. A follow up in the OPD services was booked in for Wed 9:30am for the doctor to remove the cast and was told to turn up by 9am as it needed a RAT test to be done before the appointment. So I turned up on Wed at 9am, get a RAT test done and wait. I wait and wait until 12:15 when I am called in. My cast is removed, the nurse cleans my wound and the doctor comes and observes the progress All this takes less than 10 mins. What's the purpose of having an appointment when you have to wait two and half hours before you get attended to. The hospital could do a much better job around how they plan attending to their patients. Time is important for everyone, so is regular updates. While services at the hospital are good, staff friendly and compassionate the trauma of waiting long hours before getting attend to leaves a very poor customer experience.

I was asked by my fertility clinic to contact epas clinic due to a missed miscarriage. My fertility clinic (adora fertility) gave me all the blood work and ultrasound reports and said to contact the clinic and that they will be able to help. After going on the website (epas) I emailed them all those documents and asked them to please contact me for further steps (as I've never been through the public hospital before). They have replied back to me and said that I should go to the ED. So I did, that same day (at 1 pm). When I arrived to the ED they said yes, this is the right pass to get through to the clinic. After waiting for 3 hours I was finally seen by a nurse, explained my situation and gave them my reports and bloodwork, they went to call the Epas and said that no one will be able to see me today and that someone will call me either a day or 2 later to schedule an appointment. To be honest that was very disappointing. Why ask me to go to ED and waste my time if you will not be able to help. The nurse didn't really know how to help me from there on and said I should go home and wait for the phone call. Never again will I go to hornsby hospital and will be putting a formal complaint to epas. If you are providing the service and ask me to present to ED I should be seen by gyno and have some sort of assurance on my situation. On other note, while waithing at the ED to be seen by someone I observed a total chaos in terms of patients waiting to be seen. A lot of patients were waiting to hear doctors results and some doctors came out to the waiting area and talk to them about their situations/ diagnosis conclusion for everyone to hear which I found was not patient to doctor confidentiality. This experience was very disappointing. Since then the clinic finally called me today and booked an appointment to come and see them on Friday. My issue is still not sorted and I will be taking it further as I am not happy with neither ED nor epas despitethe the the fact that everyone was nice. It's the results that count not how well you can smile to someone and talk the talk.

If possible, I would give less than 1 or 0 star. Do not go to this hospital if you are *not* in life threatening condition. This hospital lacks staff and resources to attend to all emergency cases they receive. I went to the ED with a deep cut in my finger and they took 2 hours to triage (which I understand is the “normal” in all public hospitals in NSW) and then advised me that it requires surgery by specialist with general anesthesia. This happened in the morning around 9am on a Wednesday. They made me wait in a ward without anything to drink or eat to prepare me for surgery. However because they didn’t have a theater available they kept me waiting till night without giving me any clarity on what’s going on. Even worst, they took me in front of the operation theater around 8 pm and made me wait there for another hour before a surgeon came to me and said my surgery is canceled because of other emergency! I returned home by 11 pm with my wound still open! Even worse they asked me to come a day after on Friday to get the stitches and the surgeon I spoke assured me that they will call me on Friday morning to let me know the availability of the theater and possible time for surgery. I was asked to fast in the morning but no call came actually on the day! While I understand that there is scarcity of resources and staff - worsened by covid situation, what I can’t understand is how the hospital is so poor in planning their time and available resources. If they took a minute to plan, they could have sent me back home in the morning for me to figure out other alternatives. But they just kept me waiting saying that I will be called anytime for the entire day only to send me home without the treatment. And I had to fast (nil by mouth) the entire day in the hope that I will get operated. More than the actual accident by which I cut my finger, this trauma in the hospital was more stressful for me! Don’t go to this hospital if you are not dying!

I’ve been here a total of 3 times in 3 years, the staff have been very pleasant and an odd few that are not. More so lots of Asian people work in the hospital. I find the doctors bed side manner needs a lot more care taken most are very rough around the edges not shaved and dress sloppy. In dealing with patients they seem to look down open patients. It’s hard to get to see the same one all the time it’s always a different one of your staying in over a few nights. I think QLD standards are very high compared to this place hornsby hospital. Your managing staff are a reflection of you and your standards on how you want people to see your hospital. As I stayed in over a 4 day period not once did anyone sweep or mop floors Urine would not be cleaned up around toilet areas towels would be left for days in the showers that patients had used A spray was used to cover the scent in the hospital toilets to mask the smell of unclean toilets. Ants crawling around the bed I stayed before I walked out. The made me come back offering me another bed on the same floor the ants are still crawling around as I’m still here in the hospital. There is lack of patient confidentiality as doctors speak so loud in the room everyone knows what your health problems are. The list goes on Please management of this hospital you are the ones that carry the outlook and reputation of this place. Have some standards about yourself a in both customer care and cleanliness of the place. Let’s hope you lift your stands way higher in the new building and not let that place look dirty with lack of care to cleanliness Management might need to be looked at. The people who work under you work very hard and some very good at there jobs which makes you sad that they have to work under these conditions. Overall I’m just very disappointed in my visits to your hospital!!!!!!

On Friday I was admitted to Emergency on the advice of my GP who suspected I had pneumonia. I was impressed with the new building. Who wouldn’t be? But the care I received was outstanding. Ray, the triage nurse was warm and welcoming; on his advice I was put in the care of Dr Steve, a JMO. He listened to what I had to say and had me admitted to an ISO room, just in case. He had bloods taken, a PCR, an ECG and oxygen saturation levels monitored and had me sent off for a chest X-ray where I was courteously and efficiently treated by Maddie and Ben. Once I was in the ISO room, I was hooked up to a computer(surprise, surprise) which got the results of the ECG and my blood pressure and most importantly my oxygen saturation levels. With the detector in place, my oxygen saturation levels didn’t go above 94%, So Shamsa (hope I got her name right], the RN in charge of me, placed that sensor on my ear’s pinna. Hurray for Shamsa! The oxygen levels immediately shot up to 99%. Dr Steve checked the levels, looked at my results and decided that as I was sensible (can I have that in writing?)I could go home. I was also grateful to Farah who took me to X-ray and an anonymous RN who saw my husband going out to get a cup of tea for us both and made him one in the nurse’s station. Nothing was too much trouble fr anyone. Bless our public hospitals. Please pass this review on to the people mentioned.

I had my first baby at Westmead Hospital and they took quite good care of me, so when I learned that I couldn’t go there again, I was unhappy. However, now I have to say: I had an even better experience with Hornsby Hospital Maternity Ward and was looked after really well by the midwives! I was very lucky to have Rebecca help me through the water birth. She guided me with her professional skills, calm manner and encouraging words. I couldn’t have given birth to a 4.46kg baby so easily without her! Alison provided me very helpful information about breastfeeding. Also, when my husband asked for just a fresh pink pad, Alison brought in a complete set of linen and immediately made my bed! Hanni is always very considerate and caring. When I was worried about my baby’s weight loss, Hanni reassured me and encouraged me to continue with breastfeeding. She also gave us some sterilised milk cups to use and useful booklets to read. When I was experiencing baby blues, Jacqueline supported me by taking my baby away and letting me have a good rest. She also bathed my baby and helped me settle him down. When I had concerns about catheter, she provided very helpful suggestions. Basically every midwife is very nice, patient and professional. I enjoyed my stay with them in my single room which is equipped with a refrigerator! :)

My pregnant partner had gone into emergency , waited thirty minutes in the waiting room then my partner was weighed and had urine and blood samples taken, this had taken about 2 hours, after that she was moved into temporary stay, here we had waited another 3 hours before we had an ultrasound to look at her kidneys. After the ultra sound we waited another 2 and a half hours to be told nothing no explanation just given antibiotics and painkiller and told to go home. 4 days later my partner had an appointment with her GP in that appointment we had found out none of the details had been forwarded to herself, Our doctor than had chased up all the results of tests and ultra sound pictures to find out that the doctor at the hospital had given us antibiotics that had done nothing due to the fact that the infection in my partner's kidney was immune to the antibiotics that had been supplied by the hospital. No follow up. No diagnosis with issue and had put my partner's life at risk... Gotta say Hornsby hospital is not a hospital it's a place you go to if you want to die. 8 hours of being in a hospital to put my partners life at risk come on ....

It was the worst experience, there were lot of people waiting in the queue like for around 2-3 hours. My husband and I went inside once it was our turn and people are just jumping the queue by seating on the front chair, no one is there to guide. After I done with swap I just went back to ask if I am suppose to get the blue form because I work in aged care sector. But the person who took my swap she was so rude she literally said get out. Is that how they are trained to be professional working in health care. Shame on such health worker who don't know how to treat patients politely. Seeing her being very unprofessional I rather leave that place immediately. I have been to this place for several time for covid test, but never encounter such behaviour by any staff. She was the worst staff working in health care I ever met. I'm never going to go to this place to do covid test anymore. I seriously think health care staff should learn how to have humanity and professionalism while they are at work. It hurts people feeling when they speak sick word.

Covid Testing Clinic Unprofessional and inconsiderate. I went to this testing clinic twice; first time when I got told I was close contact and need to get tested asap. Arrived there @5.58 (rushed there from work) and they told me they close @6pm and cannot take test anymore. I argued that there’s still 2 mins till they close and they still refuse to take my test. Second time I brought my brother there. He was a close contact, and had symptoms for two days already; told the nurse and was told to keep monitoring symptoms. They refused to take a test for my brother when he was SICK. I had to bring my brother to another testing clinic the next day for him to get a POSITIVE TEST. The refusal of taking test for patients when it is a walk in clinic is absolutely ridiculous. It makes people anxious and worried about themselves, also affecting isolating family members and the length of their isolation. Absolutely disappointing seeing that we have such service in public health sector.

Not having had surgery since childhood, I was considerably anxious about going into hospital. However, when attending the pre surgery appointment, I was very much made to feel at ease by the nurses who looked after me. They took time to explain the procedure and answer my questions patiently, making me feel much more informed and comfortable about the experience. During my admission, I understood that this was an especially busy day for the staff at the Day Surgery Unit. Nonetheless, the professionalism of both the nurses and doctors on call was evident at all times. In particular, I was really touched by friendliness and respect extended to me as each member of staff smiled and introduced themselves and their role in my care. These qualities are not always found in such busy, stressful environments – and I think they speak to the very high standard of professionalism in this unit.

If I could write zero I would. And this is coming from an ex staff member. I used to work at HKH as a physio during the week and weekends and covered all wards including ED. I provided quality treatment and put in my utmost effort to care for my patients. My own experience as a patient was terrible. I was treated rudely and spoken condescendingly to. I was asked if I even knew how the hospital system worked. I waited more than 4 hours after being referred from a primary health care provider my GP, who sent myself, a pregnant woman with a 2 yo son waiting to be picked up, for “urgent review”. I even had to wait for an hour to get my referral letter back so I could go somewhere else. This hospital is understaffed and needs more training for their staff. I’m planning on moving closer to westmead so I can have my baby there and not at HKH.

This is worst hospital(Emergency Department) that I seen in my whole life. All the reception people are having worst behaviour in terms of helping people. Unfortunately I infected from COVID and I need urgent help. They ask me wait outside the hospital from more than one hour and then they ask me to come inside and told that wait until doctor will be free. I waited again more than one hour but no one came and then check with receptionist about my appointment, she told me we can’t commit when your appointment will come. just sit and wait. I was literally shivering because of cold but they didn’t help me at all. So I came back home because no one is in emergency department to help me. Worst experience of my life. I never recommend anyone to go to this hospital if they have any other hospital option to go for help.

We had our first baby at Hornsby hospital and I would highly recommend any expecting mother's to opt for this hospital. The love and care provided by midwives, nurses, doctors is commendable. We also opted for birth and parenting online classes with Louise and it was really very informative and helpful. We ended up staying for longer at the hospital for 6 days and during our stay we met Angel's like Adele, Christina, Rebecca, Eugenie, Katherine, Hannie, Susan, Madeline . The care provided by all the midwives was phenomenal. Special mention to lactation consultant Tracey Page. She's amazing human being and very insightful. Loved everything from day 1 of pregnancy to this day God bless all the midwives, nurses and doctors by being in such a noble and humble occupation ❤️

  • Nat Z

Literally collapsed on the ground 3 times and the doctor and receptionist didn't even care to help.I finally saw the doctor after 5 + hours of screaming in agony with only 2 other people in the waiting room. There was no sympathy at all for my condition and no bedside manner at Hornsby hospital ED. Absolutely disgusting to be treated like a second-class citizen in Australia when you just want common courtesy and respect . Honestly, if i felt they were busy and understaff i wouldn't have made this post. However, the medical workers were slow as daylight with no concern in the world. It did not phase them at my condition or anyone elses and I think they've become desensitised to the importance and responsibility of their job.

  • Hamid Vetry

The worst hospital ever i have been is there.the nurse never care about what you feeling.imaging you are going to hospital with Ambulance as emergency for covid then when they drop you there nurse ask you to change clothes by yourself and she removed my buzzer to not calling her I supposed to scream then someone hearing me.and also my blood revers to the serum as i have lot of pictures. I hope no one get sick to going to there. They keep me waiting in isolation room for couple of hour then they told me get panadol and take every 4 hr.WHAT THE HOSPITAL!!! 4 days later after suffering a-lot of covid my GP wrote me penicillin 500 mg which is hospital must doing it and they never did.

Had major gallbladder removal and complications don't remember much due to fevers, oxycotene among others things I kept calling the nurse in ward 3 James another name sometimes Joshua or Josh, and I kept calling Adrian by the names James. Also told after majority of the ordeal that I told them during severe issues my name was Robert Raymond, so it's was a unpleasant experience and these things happen but they still do tougher hours then me and also don't get paid fully what they should. But my respect for nurses stays the same thank you James, and Adrian, and others who assisted me during my gallbladder recovery before moving too royal North shores for another procedure

  • Rohan Kirkpatrick

There is something very wrong here. Fake medical admissions, security guards assaulting patients, then practicing medicine without license. I myself was delivered here by ambulance then denied treatment whilst still bleeding from the head. Obese security guard then threw my belongings onto the road. Was arrested for seeking treatment and locked up for several hours, still bleeding before being dumped in the Middle of nowhere out of a paddy wagon. Worse, this is not the first time I have heard of this happening to someone. Even if you are in urgent medical need of attention, this hospital doesn't treat patients, go somewhere else if your life depends on it.

  • Michelle Shetab

I recently stayed at ward 3A for 6 days. Thank you to all the hard working people at this hospital. Some of the poor nurses were so busy and run off their feet but I was so grateful for their kind smiles and comforting voices. You were all beautiful but some really stood out to me. Thank you polite and kind Simon, Cheeky and cute Pradip, beautiful Dr Jessica, Golden ,Tina, Sophia and Rachel and Jackie The smiley Prescila from the cleaning department. Bahman and Adel with their warm hospitality from catering. Thank you for making my stay so comfortable and you are all great assets to this Hospital. Hope to only see you on the outside xxx

My 58 yr old husband was driven to the emergency room from the central coast presenting with a terrible head ache & nausea. They immediately saw him & within 20 min’s of arriving had his head scanned 2 different ways, results in 30 min’s, being told he had bleeding on the brain. They had him stabilised & then immediately transferred to North Shore hospital. Utterly professional, quick, & saved his life! I cannot express our gratitude to the excellent staff! I have been to Hornsby Hospital over the years with multiple other members of the family and every time without fail get 5 star treatment. Best medical system in the world!

  • JP M

I came to emergency in the middle of the night because of chest pain and not being able to breathe properly. The wait was approximately 30 minutes to be seen by the triarge nurse and there were a couple of other waiting periods around the same time to see various doctors. In total I was at the hospital for 4 hours. The best part of my experience was the staff; all doctors and nurses were professional, hardworking, helpful and friendly. This is so important and made such a difference in the moment. They solved my problem, made me feel better and picked up on an unrelated health issue I wouldn’t have known about otherwise.

  • Yeah Almost

Hornsby hospitals maternity department cannot be commended enough. So please do not think this review reflects on them whatsoever. Unfortunately the same is not true for their emergency department. It’s easily one of the worst in the state, their process around triage is appalling, doctors have a complete lack of empathy and seem unwilling or unable to provide the appropriate level of care. I am a senior pathologist and have worked in healthcare for multiple years, including within many of the states hospitals. Again, this hospital’s emergency department needs a considered review.

Just spent a few days in hospital and can say that Hornsby Hospital is one of the best run hospitals that I’ve been to. From ED, reception, triage, surgical nurses, registered nurses, anesthetists, assistants, doctors, tea ladies, cleaners, transit lounge and volunteers - thank you so much. Your work is under appreciated and you deserve more recognition for the work you do - I will forever be an advocate for better pay and conditions. I hope you read this at one stage to remind you of the positive impact you have on everyday people’s lives, especially in times of need. THANK YOU

  • Lorena V

I have had nothing but the most positive experience having my first baby at Hornsby hospital. Was fortunate to join the midwifery program and felt informed, in control and supported throughout my whole pregnancy. My midwife Kim was wonderful and I was able to reach out when I needed support, she also was very respectful and supportive of the type of pregnancy and labor I was hoping to have. The classes offered at Hornsby were great too! The maternity ward is fantastic, both my baby and I were very well looked after, I will definitely return to Hornsby for any future babies!

  • Michelle Koo

Just brought the kids in for their first covid vaccination. Kudos and a big thank you to all the lovely staff here, from the person who greeted us, to the staff who checked us in, and the nurse who administered the injection. They were all great at making the kids feel welcomed and comfortable. It was particularly great to see them interact and engage with the actual patients (ie the kids) rather than just addressing the parents. Really smooth and quick process. (PS There's a separate queue for entry for adults vs kids vaccinations. Also, leave a bit of time for parking.)

I've heard many bad reports about the public health system but after stumbling into Hornsby Hospital's emergency ward a few weeks ago with severe abdominal pain I have nothing but good things to say. They immediately dealt with the pain and within a few hours had diagnosed its cause and had me lined up for a very necessary surgery. I'm incredibly thankful for the help I received and for the various friendly, professional and very capable healthcare workers that took me through the process. Hornsby hospital is a blessing to the local community.

  • Anna Lira

I had the best experience at Hornsby Hospital when I gave birth to my baby last May. The doctors, nurses and midwives are all amazing and made me feel very safe and comfortable throughout my stay. I had a longer stay in the hospital due to my complicated birth and I can not commend the midwives enough for how they treated me and my baby with so much love and care! I honestly feel emotional just thinking about how much the midwives do their jobs with so much genuine compassion, care and generosity of time and knowledge. 5 stars is not enough!

  • Ryan Egglestone

I had surgery at Hornsby hospital the the whole process was so profesional. I was seen to by a doctor, and surgeon before the surgery. All the nurses explained their role and I always knew what was going on through the process. The nurses and catering staff were excellent, quality of care was excellent and I was checked-on regularly. Even the food staff came and spoke to me about what meals I’d like. The facility was modern and clean and well equiped. I wish to thank Hornsby Hopsital staff for their service. I felt very looked after

  • Julie Blanch

My husband was admitted to Hornsby Hospital with a stroke a week ago. I cannot fault the service he has received there. The staff have been wonderful, not just to him but to me and my family as we were so worried about him. The doctors were amazing and got his tests and surgery rushed through as his condition was so dangerous. The parking was wonderful, always loads of parks. This is the best experience I have ever had with a public hospital and I can't recommend them highly enough... five stars for everything.

  • Cameron G

vax appointments 20 minutes late! Olympic Park is better and more friendly - I was literally shouted at by some cantankerous old broad , so called nurse. Ms Cluster B had the ubiquitous, female side-kick They will badger you to wear a pseudo-science mask: just say no as I did and stand up for your rights! They then melt away. The staff can be unobliging, hostile, rude & lacking in sense. The food is quite poor. Expect to be served a lukewarm, instant coffee/tea in a plastic cup on its way to landfill

  • Okilly Dokilly

This was one of the worst hospital experiences I have had. I was in severe pain as I suffer from a neurological condition and my pain was so intense I was rushed to emergency. The triage nurse couldn’t care less and after waiting 6+ hours in agony they told me I would have a blood test and fluids. They put a cannula in and left it for a couple of hours only to tell me they forgot to do the fluids! They sent me home without a blood test and no fluids and in pain. Poor care and disappointing.

  • Raymond Ishak

Cannot thank this hospital enough from the emergency department to the paediatric ward for the outstanding service. How my Son was treated and dealt with like he was there own. I can honestly say he was in good hands and I felt so comfortable throughout the whole process especially now when I look back we are so blessed to have good staff and doctors in Australia at such a beautiful clean hospital. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Hornsby hospital for all the care you gave my son.

  • Craig Guttridge

Obviously a bad hospital where the concerns over fatigue induced errors and patient and doctor welfare are not supported. Bean counters want to see tired and exhausted staff walking around like zombies when it's a quiet time under threat of increased work loads and removal of comfy chairs. This is obviously a move by hospital management to some sort of American run system. Too think a few years ago we celebrated health care works during covid, to now hospital management threatening them.

  • Richard Beirne

I've just been discharged after spending nearly 7 months in the Adult Mental Health Unit, Overall, a very positive experience. My only real issue, is lack of staff-- the nurses are absolutely fantastic but they're grossly overworked.. This, of course isn't a reflection on the staff themselves but more a state-wide issue. Further, all the other staff- in particular the Occupational Therapist, really went out of their way to assist with my particular situation, which wasn't really "easy."

  • helen krix

Arrived at ED with my beautiful but very sick elderly mother in ambulance at 3am. She was rushed off for treatment whilst I waited in a room. Paramedics stayed by my side till staff were able to attend & advise. Everyone of the staff members were incredibly kind, helpful, reliable and professional. I am Very Grateful that staff treated my mother with kindness and dignity, all whilst medically attending to her serious multiple health issues. Blessing & thanks to you all

This is the same hospital that tried to replace RNs with unqualified assistants in their ICU. That area should have post-graduate qualified RNs, not cheap AINs. The fact that the JMOs sent their concerns to the ABC anonymously speaks volumes, that there is no psychological safety to speak up in this organisation. It’s time people in admin to take responsibility and accountability for their own actions. Treat your clinicians with respect and compassion that they deserve

I had a Parotidectomy on 9/11 and have experienced nothing but the best care and expertise. Every member of the team went beyond their duty. From being checked in to the ward right until discharge. I was there 10:30 am everything was explained and everyone taking care of me during surgery were professional. In recovery the nurses were amazingly compassionate and considerate of my needs especially helen.I stayed overnight and was told I can leave when I feel ready.

I had a bad cut lat night and went to the Emergency Department. From 9.30 pm till 1 am no one looked in to my wound. I was i bad shape and passed out also. With very less patients I cannot believe why they take so much time to check patients. There was a couple with a small baby, he was crying in pain for hours. And finally when the father asked the nurse about the delay he was so mean to the parents and they left. I would never ever go to this hospital.

I received excellent care from the hospital birthing unit and maternity ward for the arrival of my baby. The midwives are very caring and knowledgeable. They spent so much time helping me with breastfeeding and teaching us how to care for the baby post delivery. The follow up care post being discharged was amazing. Also the maternity ward primarily has private rooms and my partner was able to stay the night which were real bonuses. Highly recommended.

This hospital's management desperately needs improvement. Instead of focusing on renovation and modernization, addressing the poor management should be a priority. My stay in Hornsby Hospital Ward 3b was a nightmare due to loud staff, lack of consideration for patient comfort, and unsanitary conditions, making it an overall unpleasant experience. If possible, consider alternatives, especially private hospitals, for a better healthcare experience.

Went to emergency today with chest pain and received the best service and care.. The great service started right after you step in emergency when a very polite person asking you couple of questions and offering you a mask. Lovely and caring nurse, staff and doctor who patently explain every step and doing their best to take care of the patients... Really appriciated the great service. Well done team, please keep up great work❤️❤️❤️

  • Simon Longden

Friends of ours have just had a little girl at Hornsby Hospital. From what I understand a great experience. HOWEVER - If ever anyone needs a florist I strongly recommend the Florist on site that is run by Volunteers. I was absolutely delighted with the experience/feedback with the arrangement - outstanding just quietly! Good quality people. This is a secret that should be spread - big time ... So Thanks again for the amazing arrangement.

  • Elizna Prinsloo

Again I only have praise and gratefulness for the staff, service and care I received at Hornsby Kuringgai Hospital earlier this week. Thank you to ED staff for managing my expectations of what & when the next step is, it made the waiting in between quite bearable. Thank you for your inpatient care. And special thanks to your hospital wardens for their friendliness, positivity, and patience. I whole-heartedly state HKH is outstanding!

  • shaghayegh moghaddam

The worst hospital u can end up. Waiting time is 3 hours at least even if u have been taken to the hospital via ambulance. Doctors know nothing and in 99% of the time trying to show empathy rather than any action. They dont do anything for you even if u are severly sick and you might end up tolerate a long term sickness like me because they didnt do a simple plain chest xray on time. If you want to die soon choose this rubbish place

  • Fergus Dixon

Had a high temperature of 39.1 so headed up to Hornsby Hospital emergency. Expected to wait at least 1/2 hour but saw the triage nurse within 5 minutes, has a blood test and then found myself talking to a doctor. In the wards, the views to the north bush are amazing a bit like being in the blue mountains. Each ward has a family room for private meetings. Overall, highly recommended. Cancel the private health care hospital cover.

Recently had to take my daughter to emergency. The staff were very kind, friendly, professional. We were lucky & barely had to wait to be seen at all. The facilities were lovely & clean. My daughter especially loved the colourful murals & rainbow spotted curtains. She received excellent care & I felt that she was in safe hands the whole time. Feel so grateful that we have access to such wonderful public health care! <3

  • S U

They want us parents to give permission to force vaccinate our underage kids for covid but then take them away and parents not allowed in. Kids have to give consent when under 10yrs old, they don’t even understand the questions. No idea if the wait for the parents outside is because of long queues or because of a problem. No way of knowing if they are having an adverse reaction so if you can, avoid this vaccine hub.

Great hospital for maternity. We had our first baby in this hospital. Doctors, midwives, hospital staff are just amazing and doing wonderful service to their patients. I would like to thank Dr.Ganesh for his timely response and the treatment he gave in getting our baby delivered safely right in time. Midwives, Nursing staff, lactation specialist ‘Tracy’ are wonderful, highly qualified and responsible human beings.

  • Eric Chan

Medical officer Nicholas Stevens (JMO), please receive my best appreciation to you! You treat my eye's issue (though it is not life threatening) very carefully, and updated the prescription for me 2 times regarding my test results and some further investigations. Your professional ethics is at the top level. I wish you all the best, not only your career but also your life and family. Thanks, thanks again!!!!

  • Les Castro

100%! This is what the public system should perform at and deliver with our tax contributions. Modern, well-equipped, well-trained young professionals whose purpose daily is to head into to work and deliver the best they can to patients who, generally, appreciate (like me) their services to improve our health situation when discharged. Bravo, to their leaders, too, for bringing a winning team there!

  • Cindy Bagg

I didn't think compassionate and empathic people worked at hospitals anymore until we brought my daughter to the emergency room. To the wonderful receptionists and wonderful doctor, Alex, I can't thank you enough for your kindness and help. You were so gentle with our 4 year old daughter, and you made her (and myself) feel calm, safe, and taken care of. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • Emma Vadas

Thank you to all the amazing staff at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital for providing my Grandmother with the most incredible level of service. From the staff in emergency including nurses, doctors and neurologists to all the staff in wards 4D and 3D - thank you so much. You were all incredible and based on experience i don't think she would have recovered as quickly as she did anywhere else.

  • Hao Zhang

The worst hospital in my life. An urgent infection for a kid but had been treated as not urgent. No timeframe can be provided and always let you to wait, wait and wait. If any enquiry in regards to the process, they will show you the screen with ambulances and said there are several more urgent patient ahead. The emergency nurse Ray is awful. First time to be here but last time as well

  • ZHENYING ZHANG

The worst emergency experience I’ve got in my life! We were in Hornsby hospital at 12am on 28th September because of the sickness of my little one. The service provided by the nurse Ryan and a woman receptionist was AWFUL!!! The nurse Ryan has no sympathy, no patience and no empathy! He is not suitable for his Job! It is sham to have him to work in the hospital!

  • Jae Eddison

I had surgery at Hornsby public hospital last week. It was hard being in hospital during isolation, not being able to see my family but I was so impressed with the care I received from the team. Every encounter from the cleaner, to the catering staff to the beautiful nurses. Whoever is managing the crew and recruitment is doing a fantastic job!

  • Suparna Vashisht

The doctors, nurses and other staff are truly amazing in their medical ability and genuine concern for patient well being. We brought our dad in for what was supposed to be a treatment for low hemoglobin but the doctors suspected cancer and fast tracked him for the necessary tests and surgery all of which was completed quickly and expertly.

  • Jane Wu

I had our second baby here. The experience was overall really positive. All the midwives I met were nice and caring. The waiting time for appointments can be a bit too long. Also some young midwife was not very good at positioning the needles. I was still pretty happy with the whole process here. Big thank you to midwife Catherine.

  • Harry Thorn

Should rename “emergency” to “make you wait for 6 hours” department. Pain medication offered 4 times, each time said yes as was in serious pain, was never brought out. Nurses and orderlies walking around giggling and gossiping. Zero urgency and an absolute disgrace. Will be filing a formal complaint for blatant patient negligence.

  • Neha D

We had our 1st baby delivered here and overall our experience from start till end was too good. I was under midwife group practice & midwife katerine was so sweet and humble ready to help wenever i needed her . Service provided post delivery ,home visit were also too good. Thank you to entire staff for being so kind.

  • Ava Huan

Very nice and clean hospitality. Running really well. Got taken care off from so many competent, effective and efficient from reception, triage nurse, emergency doctors and nurses. So grateful of them, this whole experience makes me realise how much they can provide care as good as a private hospital. Thank you

  • Kissyfur 142

Was recently admitted to emergency, and find the doctors and nurses friendly, attentive and professional. The private room en-suite toilet is clean & spacious (STAR building). Most importantly are the cheerful and positive attitude of most of the staff members making my unpleasant ordeal a lot more bearable.

  • Yeming Xie

Good public hospital. I've used the ER in the past and was pretty well taken cared of, people have been professional and nice. Recently been here for COVID tests and vaccination and the experiences were recommendable. As a local I feel lucky to have this place that I can depend on in time of need. Thank you.

  • Rauf Ibrahimli

Your skin colour determine your priority on admission, not your severity. Disgusting place. Came to emergency as Health direct asked me to go to. Been in agonising pain for 3 hours in emergency, and that told me i am not priority patient. Noticed that there is clear skin colour pattern who gets admitted.

  • Antonio Reyna

I had a small surgery operation yesterday and the experience was fantastic. The staff was superb! Barbara in particular stood up right from the beginning until I left the hospital. Great sense of humour and was able to lighten the mood! Thank you Barbara and all Hospital stuff it was a great experience

  • Ian Daley

Attended with my wife who had fractured her wrist. From start to finish, all of the staff where brilliant. Care and treatment was first class and special shout out to James and the RN (can't remember her name) in fast track. Kept us in the picture of what was happening all afternoon. Thanks again

  • Beth Wengi

I am beyond grateful by how incredibly kind and hard working the medical staff are here. My husband recently had appendicitis. From emergency to the surgical ward everyone we encountered was incredible. Thank you so much for your care. It is so significant and we honestly appreciated it so much.

  • Nicole Kennedy

I've had the best experience with the birth of both my kids. I loved the midwives I had! It made both my experiences that much better. The ladies in the paediatric ward are also incredible, my boy who was 3 weeks old at the time was unwell and we were given the best care! They are truly angels!

  • Alysha B

The antenatal care unit is phenomenal - their midwife program had us supported from start to finish. The birthing suites were so large and had a big bath which helped a lot in labour. The midwives were all wonderful and all contributed to a truly great pregnancy, labour and birth experience!

  • Lowen Sutton

Today (22 December), My husband and I had organised an appointment each for our booster shots. We were both very pleased with how easy the process has been. From booking to booster shots. The staff were absolutely wonderful. Respectful, pleasant, polite and efficient. Thank you to all!

  • Lara Townsley

There was a pigeon outbreak that all had explosive diarrhoea that pooped on my wounds which led me to have an unclassified chronic disease which my husband now has to aid me to the toilet through the process of secretion. Very very very disappointed. But the doctor was hot. …

  • Sunny Soni

Amazingly rude ladies sitting on the desk of children and birthing unit , zero customer service skills and zero sympathy for patients . Terrible experience . Every other person we came across was sweet except them two . The hospital should hire better people to represent them .

  • Shahir Pirzad

Just had a surgery done and it has been a wonderful experience from the super nice nurses to great Doctors everyone has been so helpful and so kind . May God bless all of these wonderful people and I thank them so much for the great service they provide me and the community.

  • Joan Lawson

absolutely fantastic I did not get the name of the lady who attended me in the Adult Fast Track area yesterday evening. She was so caring and friendly and she needs an accolade for her work. I was treated with care, respect and nothing was a bother to her. Very impressive

  • Zahra rahmani

We took a call with Brook on 13 December at 1:30 from the antenatal clinic - she was so lovely to speak with explained everything in such great detail and made me feel so happy and positive about having my pregnancy through the public system. She’s a star ⭐️

  • Heidi B

Had surgery in the STAR building (day surgery) and the nurses/sisters went above and beyond to make me comfortable. I can’t remember all their names, but I’d like to give an extra special thank you to Trixie. Wonderful, caring staff.

  • Libby Bourgeois

So pleasantly surprised. New facilities make a big difference. Nurses just awesome. Nurse Tom and other female nurse who attended my daughter were faultless. Doctors and specialist also great. Great communication and personality.

  • Gemma Jackson

The empathy, compassion and expertise the staff had while caring for my extremely sick baby was incredible. She would not be here today if it was not for the nurses and Doctors at hornsby hospital and we will be forever grateful.

  • Christopher Tucker

Two years ago, I was very fortunate to move to Hornsby. Over that period I was recovering from significant trauma. The Hornsby Hospital and their mental health team is probably one of the best in Sydney if not Australia.

  • Daniel Telles

I had a clavícula surgery here and everything was really nice, the nurses and doctors were amazing! With this same issue I was at the SAN private hospital and Hornsby is the place to go …

  • Michelle Vierboom
