First off I would absolutely recommend this business to anyone I need of a bike or bike repairs, as I was originally recommended by a good friend of mine and I'm very grateful he did so! These owners/associates are second to none, and I'll be recommending their shop to anyone who is in need of a bike or bike repairs. Thier knowledge and customer service/relations are absolutely top notch! Not only do they have excellent knowledge when it comes to bikes but they're are fully and sincerely committed to providing an amazing experience and service. This is not the largest shop by any means, although it is a newer business and growing which I have all the best in hopes that they succeed tremendously as they deserve it. This is the type of place you're treated as a small town customer experience within a big city, and they are absolutely willing to provide the time and efforts to ensure all your requirements and questions are not only met but surpassed! Their attitude and attention to detail is incredible and their turn around time on services/repairs are exceptional. Though they may not have the on hand inventory or a larger store, they will acquire the parts needed to provide you with what you're in need of but surpass your expectations without a doubt! The quality of thier workmanship is genuine and since and they are willing to work within your requirements and budgets in which you need, you'll always walk out of the door more than satisfied then expected. These people are sincere and genuine and I will always be bringing my bike to them as they'll take the time and commitment which surpasses almost any business I've dealt with. Needless to say, this I the place to go if you're requiring bikes, parts, installs, and repairs! Please give them the opportunity and you will not be disappointed, matter of fact you'll walk out extremely satisfied and will recommend them to anyone you know requires the best in bicycle industry needs! Absolutely excellent, trustworthy, and honest business, and truly great business Respectfully and Sincerely, AJ

----This review is by a mechanic (Mr.86) who works at "Downtown Bike Hounds" -- I have been working as a professional bicycle mechanic for many years and I am happy to work with Sean and Tracie et al. -- I am very passionate about working on bicycles and will do the best job possible with the allowed budget. -- Here are a few things about the "bike shop/client relationship"you should know that will help us help you. -- As a client of ours you must understand that over time bicycles require maintenance and when the time comes to repair your bicycle we will be glad to repair it for you. The best way to prepare for this expense is to imagine (or create) a bike jar. Every time you go for a bike ride, imagine putting $1 into that jar, or better yet put that real $1 into that real jar. When your beautiful bicycle is not so beautiful anymore, bring that jar in and we will repair your bike and this way you won't be surprised when we tell you the bike repair bill. And with the leftover money in the jar you can treat yourself to whatever food or treat or bank savings account your heart desires. --And yeah there are hundreds of parts on a bike so if I don't repair it 100%, bring it back and we'll see what we can do. -- I gave us 4 stars because theres always room to improve. And because sometimes the bike shop smells like rotten sewage (seriously, it's gross. Come back in 15 minutes when it passes) -- Thanks for your time...... Mr. Eightysix

Was quoted $35 to true and replace three spokes on a tire. When it was done, was told to pay $46. Not sure why was not told the real price up front. The service also took 4 more days than originally quoted. Not happy with this place. I'm editing my review after the owners review to let you know that it wasn't within $4 of my original quote, I was quoted $35 with tax. I specifically asked with tax and was told $35 not $46, not even close. Also, when I'm told a specific time I expect it to be ready, the store had 11 days to fix a tire and it took them 15 days, not very professional. Second edit, please stop, you guy quoted me verbally $35 with 3 spokes and tax, I confirmed before I left. Yes major communication issue there. Also, I picked it up the next day after I got a call not 5 days later, that's not true. On top of that the spoke that was replaced broke on a second ride. I took it into another shop and was told the replaced spokes that you guys worked on were cheap. I had to pay again to get this done properly. Third edit...story still the same..nothing changed. Don't waste you're time with this place guys, you'll get better service somewhere else, on time and for what the price was quoted. If I could give this a 0, I would.

Ran into a number of issues with Downtown Bike Hounds. Showed up many times at opening to find the young woman working still getting ready. Taking 5-10 minutes extra to get anything started. She doesn't know much about bikes so you still have to wait to speak to a mechanic. Bike sat for 2 weeks once and had to call and ask for an update. They said they forgot about it and would call back when it was ready. Had to call again for an update, said they forgot, had it ready the next day. No apologies or anything plus the rear wheel on the bike wasn't properly trued. Didn't bother to bring it back went to Pieriks instead for more professional and timely service. Update: Speaking with another mechanic here are the issues they found with my bike AFTER it had been "serviced" by Downtown Bike Hounds: - Rear brake dangerously loose due to undertorqued cable bolt (Bike Hounds adjusted my brakes) - Drive side spokes were quarter sized (not sure what this means but I originally brought my bike to Bike Hounds for spoke replacement) - Re-tensioned + Re-trued wheel (this is less than 3 weeks after it was serviced by Bike Hounds)

I have been here twice now, for 2 separate problems with my gravel bike. So far I've been helped by both Will and Matt, and I gotta say that they have both been very communicative and knowledgeable. Will was incredibly helpful in sourcing a crankset for me that actually fit my bike. Mine was busted, and my recent experience with at least a few other bike shops in Hamilton/Toronto elucidated that spare parts are sparse and also in high demand. Definitely lucked out here! Also helped me get some work done that was within my budget. Matt was able to fix some rear shifting problems I was having (with a bent rear derailleur hanger), after a spill, very quickly to my delight. Again, really great work for reasonable prices. The appointment-booking system has been efficient, especially during Covid times. If you are planning on visiting them, I urge you to check out their site, as it made my appointments go very smoothly. The vibes here are immaculate. I will most definitely be back, should I encounter any more bike troubles - as this is now my #1 go-to bike repair shop in Hamilton!

Update: I continue to feel grateful for this shop. Will has knowledge about bikes and a passion for what he does. My bike continues to ride like a dream after years of being disappointed with other shops not fixing gears slipping/grinding and brakes "singing!" All solved. You are never rushed here nor is there an attempt to upsell. I have found that turnaround time is even shorter than estimated. So glad to have found such great service. The service at Bike Hounds was amazing. These fellows know their bikes. I had been taking mine out of town, but was referred to Bike Hounds by a friend. I can walk to their site. The bike had been serviced twice a year but the way it is working now after taking it to Bike Hounds, is as if my bike almost flies along on its own. I have a cyclo-cross. The bike has had minor issues over time that were never really resolved. Will and Matt tried various different remedies and made suggestions. I would highly recommend this shop.

I took my bike in tuesday morning last week for a routine tune up. I was told they would have it back to me within either a few days or at most a week. I told them i use my bike daily to get to work, so whatever they could do to get it back to me would be greatly appreciated. Thursday afternoon i stopped by the shop in person to checl on my bike. No work had been done and i was assurred that within a week they would have my bike ready. It is slow season for bike repairs. NONE OF THE 4 TIMES I WENT IN DID I EVER SEE AMY0NE ACTUALLY WORKING ON A BIKE. I came back on a wednesday morning (8 days for a basic tune-up) and still, nothing had been done to my bike! You wasted a whole week of mine, and then still wanted to get paid? Get real! There are better bike mechanics who actually work hard in this city. Try them, they are cheaper too. NEVER GOING TO BIKEHOUNDS AGAIN AND YOU SHOULDNT EITHER.

I can appreciate the owners response to the first bad review ie: new ownership/pricing/service, to which the owner responded in particular PAYING THEIR MECHANICS A LIVING WAGE!!!! I don't know if the person who wrote the review can appreciate that depending on what they do and how they are paid, but paying a LIVING WAGE is a RESPECTABLE THING FOR ANY BUSINESS TO DO!!!! The owners DETAILED response was above and beyond. Iv not been there yet myself but due to the owners above and beyond response to that review, and being self employed I can appreciate the time it takes to do so, I will now try them out for that reason alone. I USUALLY do my own repairs to save on costs so I look forward to posting the experience I have. Will be replacing tubeless tires and brining my own 'goop' to assist. Hoping they will use it .No need to buy their's if I have my own from doing my own repairs.

  • hola como estas bien e tu

This is the only place ill go for any of my cycling needs. i always feel safe here. safe in knowing that they will treat me with respect, despite the fact that i am not very knowledgeable in regards to my bike. I am new to cycling. i never feel like im asking a stupid question even though i probably am. sometimes as a woman i feel uncomfortable talking about anything outdoors pr sports related...buying a backpack can be stressful...but the staff at Bike hounds treat me like a human being. they have never taken advantage of me, though they probably could easily. i bought my bike here after looking everywhere. the main reason i bought my bike here and not at some of those other places is that i just immediately felt like these people were trustworthy and i still go back for all my maintenance and accessories. they made me love cycling!

Just had a fantastic 5 star experience at Bike Hounds today. I've been commuting to work daily on a SoBi for 5 months now, and it was time to finally make the switch to my own bike. I'm still relatively new to the cycling world and needed help finding the right fit and I'm glad I turned to Bike Hounds to help that transition. I asked a lot of questions but Will was very patient and professional. He never made me feel like I was burdening him with beginner level inquiries. I never felt pressured to buy anything extra, but I learned a lot and left feeling like I had everything I need for now. I ended up getting a bike I know I'll have for a long time. It was a pleasure to ride it home from the store and I look forward to a smoother commute! Thanks folks!

I came downtown from Mountain to fix my e bike cable I saw this store I ring the bell then I noticed the says required appointment then this nice person came I told him sorry I didn't know, I need appointment he asked what you looking for I told him need to change the cable he looked at it he said he can do it now he asked his boss if he could do it he said to him only gonna take 5 minutes the boss came and started acting aggressive look I didn't told the guy I don't have appointment he started having me lecture like you need appointment we can't do it, no needed to be rude could have said it nicely and the time he toke talking the guy could have repaired my bike. Then I went to new hope community bike and they did it right away

You will never need to go to another bike shop. The staff here are great and the prices and service are first rate. First came to DBH last year after someone bashed up my bike during a theft attempt. Bent frame and rims, brake positions all messed up, I didn't think it was fixable. DBH worked their magic and my bike is alive and well. Most recently, I got a flat and tried to patch it at home but couldn't get the tire off. I brought the wheel to DBH and they fixed it right away, even traded me the wrong inner tube I bought for one they had in stock. A great level of personal service that is missing from most business these days. I will never visit another shop as long as I live in Hamilton!

  • David Hosten

I have used Downtown Bike Hounds for a few years and have always been happy with them. The store is in a hundred year old building, so has a typical narrow entrance, and is a little darker than one might expect as the only natural light comes in from the front of the store. The people who work there make up for this by always seeming bright, helpful and cheerful. Bikes are their thing, not a hobby or a once in a while gig, these are serious bike people. I have had annual tune ups done, bought a sturdy bike lock, got advice on what pedals to switch to, and was even bailed out after bungling some home bike repairs. A great bicycle resource. I highly recommend them.

  • Nicole Cartwright

I have been in this shop a number of times over the last couple of years. I have always experienced fantastic customer service. The staff are incredibly helpful and upfront (something you don't always see in a retail setting). Most importantly, this week when I rode downtown to do some errands I realized I had forgotten my bike lock (a stupid mistake). I stopped by DBH intending to pick up something cheap and temporary. When I explained my situation to the guy working he offered to lend me a lock for the day. This little favor has bought my loyalty. This shop is great and the staff couldn't be better

  • virg

My Son took me to DBH to get a new bike. I picked up my new Biria the next day. Then, after riding it for only a couple of kms, I realized I had the wrong bike. I thought maybe I was stuck with a bike that actually hurt me to ride. I had not taken a long enough test ride (do that when you buy a bike…actually ride up and down some hills). I was worried about taking it back. Sean can seem a little aloof. Anyhow, when I went back in, Sean was patient and listened. He changed the seat and handlebars for very little extra cost. And there you go! I have a comfortable bike that is just fine to ride.

  • Jordan Page

Great Shop! Jack and Alex were amazing and super helpful, now I am not a beginner biker but definitely not an expert either so when I walked in I was a bit hesitant going to a new bike shop. That was short lived as I was welcomed and not overwhelmed. Jack and Alex were both amazing and helped me out with everything I asked plus more, took the time to show/teach me. Also was a really nice feeling not pressured into spending big bucks on parts that I didn't need, I was suggested a few affordable parts that I should look into upgrading, and grabbed a couple of them. Perfect! Thanks again.

  • Chloé McIntosh

I have been going to DBH since the shop first opened four years ago, and I won't go anywhere else. Sean always gets me the best parts at the lowest price and gives me prompt and reliable service. Sean and Robert are hands down the best. They are honest and never charge you for unnecessary service, and always include the customer in the bike maintenance process. They are and outstanding part of the downtown community, and set the gold standard for customer service. They truly make our city a better place, and set an example for small business owners everywhere.

  • Braeden Arnold

As a casual cyclist I was happy to be accommodated so well by these guys - straightforward online booking system, booked a consultation in which I expressed my concerns and had the workings and mechanics of my bike explained to me and what they could do to improve its performance. Dropping my bike off on a Thursday and was given Tuesday as an estimate for when the job would be finished and they had it done by Saturday. Quick turnaround, excellent service, at a very fair price - and now my bike rides like new. Thanks again, Bike Hounds!

  • Mohammad Shakil

Great shop in my opinion, first time going here and the guy at the front was on the phone helping a customer. Meanwhile another guy from the back repair shop ran out to help me when he saw me waiting. I needed chain grease and he asked me what type of riding conditions I will be in and suggested the appropriate product. He also showed me how to apply the product as well since I told him I was new to the sport. Overall great experience as they took the time to help especially when I came 10 minutes before closing too.

  • Romano Agostino

William and Matt make this basic little shop into one of the premier repair and bike vendors of the city. Skilled, accomplished and definitely personable its easy to feel comfortable walking into this place. Believe it or not I was turn away from other bike repair shops simply for a scooter tire fix. Bikehounds didn’t hesitate and got it done in a timely fashion. I’ve been to many bike shops having competed triathlons. Own a commuter bike,e-bike and scooter as well. Take it as gospel, the boys do a sensational job.

  • Molly Anderson

Recently had my bike serviced at DBH and was impressed with the excellent service. I own a very inexpensive bike (Canadian tire special) and was having an issue with the gears catching/ back tire problems. I had tried some home remedies, but nothing was working. At DBH they identified the issue, called me to give me an estimate and patched things up after giving me a (very reasonable) quote on the job. Overall - 10/10 experience. I highly recommend this shop!!!

  • Dave

Had a few busted spokes so I called for options and prices and ended up bringing my bike in and was told I would be better off getting a new rim. Good insightful advice, and was much cheaper than I expected it to be. With no appointment on a Saturday I got a call only about an hour after dropping it off saying it was ready to go. Good quick service, this was my first time here and I will definitely return for my next bike issue.

  • Carlos Orellana

Best service ever, brought in my mountain bike had it looked at and they were entirely honest with me, my bike sucked, guy could have easily charged me 150 to replace the back end but he told me outright, dude for the use you give it, get a new mountain bike....but we don't sell mountain bikes so go to these places i recommend. 100% trustworthy, I will be going back if i have issues with my new mountain bike!

  • Louisa

I've been bringing in my finicky bike here for quick adjustments or to purchase a bit of gear. The staff is unfailingly friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. If possible, they get me back on my bike in no time. More recently I needed a chain replacement—not exactly a snap with a partially immovable chain guard. After his test ride, the tech also shored up some rattly bits. Bike Hounds is my absolute go-to.

  • The Artist Formerly Known As

Went on Tuesday, was told they didn't have what I needed in stock and took my number to text me when they did. Went to New Hope on Friday after hearing nothing back and got real customer service plus everything I need for less than what they quoted me here. Don't think they really wanted to make the sale / took me seriously so I'd recommend New Hope for those who want real support and are not gentrified.

  • Teréz Szőke

I bought a bike rack from Bike Hounds and was so ready to fasten it onto my speedster. When I got home to Guelph I realized I was missing a key piece for fixing it onto my road bike. I gave them a ring to explain the situation and without hesitation they tossed the piece I needed into the mail and it arrived in days. What service, right? Exactly what I needed and delivered straight to my door! Thank you!

  • Adam Oldfield

Bike Hounds is the best place to take your bike for repair or maintenance. They are honest, reliable, and will do a great job. I've had all my bikes repaired and maintained by Bike Hounds, and I've never been disappointed. The pricing is reasonable, and the service is phenomenal. I highly recommend Bike Hounds to anyone who needs their bike repaired or maintained. You won't be disappointed!

  • Tom Aagaard

Superb repair-oriented community bike shop. I've been really impressed by how resourceful they've has been during pandemic parts shortages to keep my bikes running as smooth as possible. If you have any doubt about the shop's thoughtfulness and commitment to quality, take a moment to see how Sean has responded to the few one/two-star reviews. We're lucky to have DBH in the neighborhood.

  • Iain Donaldson

Great pre-sales advice and after-sales service on my new touring bike purchase and outfitting from the bikehounds at this full-service local bike shop. Sean and Alex went out of their way to smooth the swap out from drop bars and bar-end shifters to flat bar, Ergon GP5 grips and compatible bar mounted controls. It is so easy to support a local business that goes the extra mile.

  • Edgar Dela Cruz

I took in my road and hybrid bikes to be serviced and found the 15 minute consultation appointment a great idea. The staff was friendly and only outlined what was needed. They made suggestions and I never felt like they were up-selling at any time which is important for me to trust their expertise. Overall a positive experience with a pro-community feel in my own 'hood.

  • Chelsea Cox

Very friendly, helpful staff. One of the few bike shops where they didn't talk down to me for being a woman. Some cool products and accessories, too. Fixed my bike in a timely manner a few times over the last couple of years. They have used bikes in the basement that are relatively affordable. And they even have bike parking right in front! I highly recommend!

  • Darren Sousa

-An amazing all around customer experience! -It is so refreshing to walk in to a bike shop and have a conversation without being belittled and snubbed as so many shops do. -The staff are knowledgeable and have a passion for cycling! -Downtown Bike Hounds worked with me and my budget for all my repair needs. -Would recommend this bike shop to anyone.

  • Nikita Nogovitsyn

Many thanks to their mechanic Matt who was able to fix our cruise bike in no time. He was the rescue for the day as we were on the bike tour around the city but out rear tire broke. I was amazed at how quickly the bike was repaired and impressed with Matt’s knowledge and friendliness. I would recommend anyone come here for any of their bike needs!

  • Rabie

Very helpful employees, called to book an appointment so I can fix my bike and they ask me to come now if i want, when i arrived gave me exactly what needed to be done estimated time and how much, fixed while waiting and even tuned the break and couple other things for me, left as a very happy customer. Highly recommended

  • Michael Dangana (DANGZ)

I went in to get my bike fixed yesterday and the service was amazing. The guy who assisted me was very knowledgeable about any and everything regarding bikes and was genuinely happy to assist with the repairs. The prices were great and I will definitely be coming back to get some additional tune ups in the near future.

  • Tony Albanesi

I'm very happy we have Sean and his amazing staff downtown Great work withought trying to upsell you out of your pocket Matt did a great job on my bike got it going on my budget running like new I still need a bit of work which I will return for. If you are second guessing about this shop don't! Thank you To will also

  • Antheia Cooke

Love Downtown Bike Hounds! Thank you Walter for your patience and kindness and care with helping me. Thank you Sean for hooking me up with the perfect bike for me! Totally recommend anyone to go to Bike Hounds. Was a great experience. They listened and took the time and really cared! Great people and Great bike shop!

  • Michael Abrams

The guys here are always great and friendly. I have been in a couple of times to ask for help or have them look over my bike to be sure it is road worthy they stop what they are doing and help. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is multiple times I needed a part and they have to order it in and I have to wait.

  • Peter Cirrelli Jr

decent little shop, try to build a relationship with the bike store I frequent, have been 3 times introduced myself, exchanged pleasantries and Will still acts like he's never seen me before, first name basis with everyone else that comes through the store though when I'm there, I'll find a new shop. thanks!

  • Dee Fin

They don't work on bmx's I find this to be very discriminatory. I am a paying customer and they turned me down for the fact I ride bmx that's ridiculous. All I need is some grease and a true but that's to complicated for them. There is not a lot of bike shops to begin with so this is a huge let down. …

  • Karan Grewal

They have really great customer service. I was in the midst of a long ride when I needed a part replacement for my bicycle ASAP. I stopped by the shop, and Matt took care of it in less than 15 mins. He barely even charged me for it, and I was back to riding. It's rare to come by such great service.

  • Sylvia Liu

Hi, Does anyone have the number to the store? The one on the website doesn't give me the option to leave a voice main, directs to book an appointment form. Other number message says Barton bike repair? Bought a fordable bike end on September, metal ring around break is broken

  • Colin Cyr

A very competent group here with principled community values. Great at what they do, very reasonable turnaround times, and honest in their assessments. If you're looking to support a local shop that care about their work and treat their customers well, this is the place.

  • Caroline Stinson

Downtown Bike Hounds is the ONLY place to go in Hamilton for GREAT service and reasonable prices. I have been to several bike stores in the city, and Downtown Bike Hounds surpasses them all ... knowledgeable staff who are fair and don't try to upsell. HIGHLY recommend!

  • Alex Baker

First of all, the prices here are some of the cheapest I have found for service. Secondly, the guys doing the service are great at explaining options and making suggestions. Third, this is a local independent business, support these guys is supporting your community!

  • Kris Bee

Amazing bike shop!! My boyfriend was visiting Hamilton and we wanted to go biking, he had a leak in his brake line. They took him the same day and did an amazing job and the price was very reasonable. Will be my go to place! Thanks for going above and beyond.

  • Michael Hackett

I brought in my e-bike hoping they would be able to fix the handlebars that I accidentally broke. They gave me fantastic service and kept up to date with me during the repair process. My bike is fixed fast and low price. I highly recommend this place.

An awesome experience by all accounts! Brought in my old DH rig that had been sitting for a long time and they brought it back to life like it never skipped a beat! Would absolutely recommend for anyone looking for honest service on their bike!

  • Arkells Band

Sean, Rob and the staff at Bike Hounds are the people who have made downtown Hamilton the bicycle friendly place that it has become. Without their advocacy, we'd be stuck in the dark ages. Top quality service and bike advice. Thank you!

Every time I've come to your shop in the last 10 years I've been treated kindly and generously. I have never been unimpressed, disappointed or let down. Especially last summer. You guys are great. Thank you. Sincerely. Denni

  • Liam

Great place for bikes, bike accessories, and maintenance! I got my Surly tuned up here and it now rides like a dream. The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly, and you can tell they have a real passion for cycling.

  • Bob McIntyre

I got my bike repaired here. Bad in every respect. They missed things wrong with it, quoted me a price half of what I was charged in the end, and were generally snobbish like I was doing them a favour shopping there.

  • David Carlisle

For years this has been my go to place when I need repairs. They are honest and I have never had a "surprise" bill from them. I highly recommend this business. The online booking system for repairs is easy to use.

  • Andre Bucci

Had a leak in my rear tire. Was in a pinch to get it fixed so I could get back on the road. Matt had it looked at and fixed the issue really quickly. Service is great. Can’t beat the convenience of the location.

  • K Leask

Awesome advice and service making an off-the-shelf recumbent bike more accessible for our daughter with limited mobility. Great to have a resource like this in the community for bikers with disabilities!

  • Huifang Ng

Shawn's attitude is demeaning. He thinks he's funny, just a smarty pants. We wanted to buy a couple of bikes but were made to feel like we weren't pro enough to shop at his store. Went somewhere else.

  • Connor O'Brien

I've had two flat tires in the last few months. Both times I brought my bike in to Bike Hounds and they were able to fix it on the spot. Great customer service and great prices. Would recommend.

  • Allison

This place is great! The staff are very helpful and knowledgeable (I dealt with Walter). They have a good selection of new and used bikes and can order items upon request. I recommend this shop.
