I went here to buy Turkish sausages only to be met with the owner complaining to me about people from the same country as me stealing all the time in her store. Honey everyone is stealing food nowadays to survive and be able to eat. Food is extremely inflated. I spend about $70 that day but that’s the last time I’ll ever shop here because I don’t need to be told people who look like me steal from your store, as if that’s my problem? I’m sure people that look like her steal also but I’m willing to bet she never makes their shopping experiences as unpleasant as mine. The butchers don’t wanna be butchers. Chicken legs look like they’ve only had the feathers plucked out of them, no trimming of the fat or even cutting the chicken into drumsticks or thighs. They’ll tell u to take it home and dull your own knives, and who even has the strength to do that? Unprofessional and they have their heads so far up their hoohaa that you’re better off going somewhere else. Depraved and bad energy all around.

Just got back from there. Bought two 3 kings rolls of charcoal. The aluminum wrapping seemed wrinkly and I thought maybe the box fell etc. did not give it a second thought. Opened it now and it was not 3 kings charcoal but one of those awful smelling cheap kind rolled into the 3 king aluminium foil unless its plain and simply fake kind. Looks like and smells like the cheap starlight charcoal. Very disappointed as I went to closer store and they had none, then went here and now I can barely use theses. Edited to add the below as the owner responded. Thanks for the offer but simply not worth it to drive there for 4 dollars worth of product. Over 20 years of using 3 Kings I have never seen this, so I still stick to either fake product or tampered with. Shape, smell, how it lights up, the ash and the duration is not the same.

As a previously regular muslim customer (because there was no other halal supermarket in the west-end of the city) - I DO NOT RECOMMEND SHOPPING AT DAMAS. It is very over-priced, both the meat and food products. The owner knows he has a monopoly in the area and is downright rude and arrogant and has no idea of how to talk to customers. Essentially, Damas has no other competition in the area, thus the high prices. I suggest saving on costs and going to other nearby halal stores: 1. Maya Market -197 Norice St. (Off Woodroffe Ave. near Algonquin College) 2. Silk Road Foods - 1618 Merivale Rd (near Merivale Mall) 3. Al Jazeerah Food and Meat Market - 1101 Wellington St. W (at Parkdale Ave.)

I am a regular customer to this store for the last two years. Honestly I always get the best experience when I shop overthrew. Usually on weekends or evenings. I choose this halal store because thier meat is fresh and usually the staff are very helpful and friendly... until today. I went to the store in the morning. The two girls on the cashier was very rude. If I was not already a customer I wouldn't comeback again.... they might need a little bet traning, maybe or they are racist... it was very passive behavior and I'm not sure if it was just bad customer service or Blain racist..... I hope the woner of this business see my review in order to improve his business.

I had a very bad experience today in the supermarket store I was not wearing a maskbecause I have respiratory breathing issues and the guy at the meat section would not sell me any meat because I was not wearing a mask and I didn't have any proof on the Ottawa by law paper that they have in the store it says I do not need to have proof of a mask very poor service but the other employees they let me buy the stuff I had already got because they understood that I had a breathing issue but the guy in the meat section he wouldn't give me any meat because I was not wearing a mask.

  • Dea Goldin

Basic items seemed very overpriced, one bottle of Kirkland peanut butter was $8.99 where you can get 2 bottles in the same price from Costco. Got expired items twice.. one time it was olives and another time it was jar of expired cheese. Somebody have to take initiative and do the quality analysis on the products. Also, every time that i go there they charge me with different prices on the meat ... it keeeeeep on increasing. Front counter people are courteous; however, deli staff is old and grumpy.

  • Matthew DeCoursey

I don't know what was going on for t g, but I'm a very white man and I've always been welcomed there. Anyway, the family that owns it is Turkish, and what colour do they imagine Turks are? Western Turks look like Italians. Besides Turkish food, they do have some Arab and Balkan food. As someone else has noted, the Turkish leaf tea is a great deal. I don't think you can get good-quality tea any cheaper in Ottawa.

  • Zehra Coskun

They have variety of products with different options. However, I find their prices a little higher than normal. The reason I give 3 stars is because sometimes their prices on the shelf don’t match with prices in their system. When I go there I usually buy a lot of stuff so I usually check my receipt when I get home and then I realize the discrepancies. This happened multiple times and this must be fixed.

  • Omid Miri

Damas butchery,  love this shop,  Halal meats, Fantastic service and great place for all of your meat. Mr Sufi, a great butcher who is a nice gentleman, always does his job in a perfect way. Their meats are the best, they know their stuff and they are great to deal with. So much to choose from. The most and Definitely some of the best cuts of meat in the whole city especially with Mr Sufi's hands.

  • Ahmed Lalouani

Yesterday, I had an unpleasant interaction with the owner. I waited for a long time at the butcher's while the owner and 2 other people were just talking (non customers). I politely asked for help, the owner replied rudely:" you have to wait, we are busy here". I left the store immediately with no intention of going back. Unprofessional and arrogant. I prefer to spend money where I get respect.

  • Shamim Rasel

This store charged me $50 for 4 whole chicken. lol. He also charged me $3 extra to cut those chicken. lol. Price is very higher than other store. With this price I could buy 7 chicken from the other store with no charge for cutting the chicken. I will recommend people, don't go there to waste your money. You can get more and better products with lower prices. Think before you go there.

  • Mohamed Abd Elrahman

Its good place to do your groceries shopping but its Small place. The prices is responsible some items more expensive than other stores but the good part you can find most of the items you want that not available on regular grocery shop. The chicken and meet are Halal with good prices. I recommend this place to get your needs quickly and better than any bigger stores

  • Becky H

This store is jam packed with middle eastern staples! Anything you could hope to find... Also, the Halal meats are outstanding AND well priced. Because they have SO many wonderful products on offer, it can come across as cluttered or confusing. PLEASE, don't hesitate to ask for assistance. It's a wonderful store and an exceptional Halal market. Give it a try!!!

  • Sonam Khan

3 stars only for the staff because they were very kind. But this is Another overpriced grocery store. Unfortunately their items are way more expensive than the nearby stores. For reference 1 litre of mustard oil was 10 CAD and another brand was 450ml for 9.99 CAD. Also I’m very careful in stores that do not have price tags. It’s an immediate red flag.

  • Hisham Obeidat

Fresh meat and chicken, all what you need from back home food are there not only Turkish they have all middle east ingredients. One thing only the lamb shoulders and legs cuts in very small pieces. We always ask them if we need a bigger pieces they say only this one available. Other Lebanese shops they have the options if you want big pieces.

  • caglar cag

Their hummus is unbeatable in terms of price and taste. Also just overall an excellent grocery store with plenty of cheap produce, meat (especially marinated chicken), and a great nuts/seeds section! If you’re looking for a top quality Middle Eastern grocery store that sells halal products in Ottawa, you need to visit this place ASAP!!!

  • Shadi Shalabi

High priced and bad service.. Store and meat... I always knew its high priced.. But to also get bad service.. I got ground meat yesterday and went home found out its old . not a single red color in it. He passes it to cash so I don't see it and I was fooled. The meat is horrible! I would not recommend it to anyone.

  • Abuossama

Very expensive and poor quality meat. The salesman is a cheater.I asked for for fresh pieces of meat,he took the tray and secretly filled the bag with chunks not fresh. It looks like the meat of an old cow. It's really a shame for people who sell halal. I absolutely do not recommend buying your halal meat there.

  • Adam Morgan

One star is way too much for the service. the guy behind the meat counter needs some english classes or some kind of service attitude training. Today Sept 30, 2021 is the last day i ever shop at this place. Service is really bad and rude. Lots of food stores in Ottawa, no need to drive to this one any more.

  • Yussef Dwaydar

My family has been shopping here for years and it is are go to spot. Everything is fresh and they are THE best butchers I have seen. Amazing quality meat and service is a another thing. They treat you like family as soon as you walk in the door and they make it feel like home. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

  • George Michael

A neighbourhood ethnic food store for Lebanese, Egyptian and Turkish food. Small size Store but we'll stocked for its size. It carry lots of essentials, however very limited on produce as it only carry seasonal imported produce, so not like regular groceries! Friendly staff and good products.

  • Venkatasubbarao Sutrave

Purely on product and service based review, not a friendly approach by meet department, when asked about expires on the package they behave arrogantly, they say it's fresh but boy they are not truly asking them they say it's fresh. No offense rest is good if they change there approach...

  • Romy Canada

DO NOT go here! This guy has quranic verses near the bulgur and rice section calling all the unbelievers as infidels; well guess what you live in an infidel country according to your religion so go back..oh for the English speaking ppl the verse is in Arabic so you won't understand it..

  • Noah Gula

The only place I buy beef in Ottawa. It’s really difficult finding good cuts of beef with evenly cuts. I mean where else can you find the different cuts of beef on display. Also, having variety cuts of fresh lamb and goat instead frozen( though it is an option, spend a little more) :-)

  • Abdu Fikak

I'm regular customer in this story for last 10 years in and I have their point card. I always comes three times a week but today I came to buy a bread the cashier gave with out bags when I asked him he show me unrespectful answer I hope they change the way how they deal with customer.

  • Mohammed Asad Zuberi

Best place I have visited in a long time. Good halal items are reasonable cost. They have actual sojuck from Turkey. So good and plenty of Turkish products and regular desi products. Also best selection of middle eastern cheeses in Canada. They have great organic honey as well.

  • Numan Waheed

Damas is probably most popular middle-eastern store in Ottawa area. I found their products clean and shelves arranged. Their meat section is especially great. People working in this section are knowledgeable about meat and meat products. All in all, great shopping experience.

  • YUL Explorer

In the past, I found it very easy and convenient to shop here, I noticed the quality of meat has declined to the point that they hand me things that are clearly spoiled. On top of rude employees, they take their customers for granted, there are much better shops in the city.

  • Max latham

Great butcher, very nice staff and meat all looked amazing. Cool coming somewhere the butcher calls you brother or sister. They have a good selection of breads including fresh Turkish bread and Ethiopian njera bread which I haven't seen anywhere else. I'd come back for sure.

  • Muhammad Al-Shammari

I've been coming here since 2002. Its come a long way since then. I'm giving 4 stars bcuz prices can be a bit high but meat and other product quality is consistent. I like the deli meat options in the deli cooler although I would make it a bit affordable. Good otherwise

  • Bera Songur

Even a star is too much for these disrespectful freaks. They’ve got zero education, they only speak Gibberish instead of English, don’t know how to treat to customers and of course; dirty store to shop in. They are too far from civilization, such a shame.

  • Shira K

Love coming here to get my halal meat. I live out of town and halal meat is limited where I live. Have tried everything from chicken to their fast fry steaks. Never been disappointed. The butcher is very helpful on how to cook the meats perfectly.

  • yaser Abidi

I love visiting Damas. The store is great and the employees are wonderful. Also, great thanks to Hanen, one of the employees who works there. Hanen assisted my old mother with her needs. We wish that Damas recognizes her warm and kind personality.

  • Shehryar Khan

Always buy my halal chicken from here. It’s always fresh! Suggest ordering on the phone ahead of time. Would be nicer if they would carry better cuts and quality of meat but I understand there aren’t many Halal farms to source from around here.

  • Be Kind

Excellent Supermarket for All Your Grocery Needs! This local supermarket is a hidden gem that exceeded all my expectations. With an organized layout, abundant product selection, and exceptional customer service, it has become my go-to place

  • Sam Ole

Great store, go there to get Tunisian harissa and Moroccan couscous and Turkish bread. Also spices that I can't find at superstore or sobeys such as Ras el Hanout mixed north african spice for couscous, they get it from Montreal, excellent!

  • t g

Never ever, absolutely never go to Damas supermarket if you are white. In this store only customers, fully wrapped in fabric, and/or with covered faces, heads, & of dark colour are welcomed. Employees here clearly said it in our [yes, you

  • Alex S

A great store with a good selection of Middle Eastern and Turkish products. They have an amazing meats section, with lots of reasonably priced Halal options. At the cash counter, they sell fantastic fresh Turkish/Central Asian flat bread.

  • ran raw

The cheapest in ottawa. ..great owner. Asked him for al ameed famous coffee in Jordan and other specialty veggies. got it fast to please customers .thanks .wish you success and prosperity.and I like their clean meats. And service.

  • Abdulkadir Mohamed

I know this place for long time and I recently started buying meat from there. They sell good quality meat but they prefer you to buy the prepackaged meat. I also found one of their butchers is not friendly customer service.

  • A H

A little bit tight place but has a wide selections of halal food from different countries that you may won’t find anywhere else plus the meet and chicken. They speak English and Arabic, not sure about other languages.

  • Alice_Gacha

Excellent products and services. Products always fresh, breads are amazing!! Be sure to visit the meat department for all your fresh halal meats!! Have been goong for years and always excellent. Thank you Damas!!!

  • Adnane Amari

Butcher is rude and unprofessionnal. If i want to choose the meat that i like i can , you can't sell me the kind that YOU want! Last time for me there. Plenty of shops with better service and less rude employees.

  • MariabelonesART

Good to have this type of grocery store in Ottawa, you'll find great stuff there from other cultures. I love buying spices there, different kinds of tea, rice, cookies, olives and much more. Recommended …

  • akki Siri

People at butcher section are so arrogant when we asked to make chiken small pieces. They were like take home cut them by yourself, we don’t have prior cut ones as it was 8:30 Pm they said they won’t cut them.

  • Shaider Riz

Rude attitude, high priced items, the owner knows we are Muslims and have no other choice in the town. But there are some stores now that we can try and compare the prices. I found Damas prices way to high.

  • Emily Gonzalez

  • Badro

Don't buy your meat there, It's a poor quality and no fresh. On top of that the non friendly staff who don't care about customers.I'm sending my complain to the competents services with specimen now.

  • Bakhadur Muslimov

It is a very good shop with reasonable prices. Prices for Turkish Leaf teas are very cheap. Staff is nice but some young guys at butchery should be more polite and not like robots. Helal olsun

  • ma dess

Love the place , super friendly staff and good quality chicken and ground beef, (that's what I buy) they have everything for middleeast cooking as far as I can see. I don't go anywhere else.

  • ueg1974

place is very small and lot of people inside (covid-19) no rule staff is unfriendly and pushing u to buy open box item.....never saw this before any place in canada......

  • Metin Karakus

Has a good variety of foods. However you have to be careful about the items’ best before dates. There was a considerable number of items expired or soon to be expired.

  • Hamed G

Rude unprofessional employees with horrible attitude. I used to be a regular here, but will not come back anymore. Thankfully there are many other halal shops in town.

  • Intake M

Store is fine, meat is not recommended. Lamb Ribs I bought for kabab weren't edible, I got embarrassed amongst guests. Beef was rough too. Don't buy their meat.

  • Ahmed Baig

Pretty decent poultry and lamb. Usually larger cuts that we like. But they then size them up upon request. But yiu have to be there before 8:30 Pm though.

  • Fader HD

The best supermarket in Ottawa. My family comes here every week and the owner is very nice. The meat is fresh and a good price, I recommend this place
