I thought this place definitely had good food quality, including some of the dishes where I have had elsewhere, Zaytinya's versions were more flavorful. However, in terms of its portion comparison to the price, the amount of food I received was so little that I had to order many different dishes to become full. Therefore I would rate this place closer to a 4.5 because it was not as affordable, and I would not rate its food as "out of this world" that would make me want to pay that much to have. The tabbouleh had too much lemon so it tasted super sour. It was actually one of the most sour tabbouleh salads I have had anywhere. If toning down the amount of lemon dressing included, it would be perfect, because the bulgur wheat, parsley, and onion flavors were drowned by the amount of lemon dressing that was present. I could taste lemon and nothing else. The dolmades were very flavorful, and I think it was a result of fennel as a part of the seasoning. Dipping the dolmades in the labneh was also a pleasant experience. In terms of taste, all the meat dishes tasted excellent, ranging from the branzino to the octopus to the ground beef kebab. Having the yellow split pea purée accompanying the octopus was a plus because the contrast in flavor elevated the octopus taste. The beef on the kofte kebab was tender and perfectly grilled and had that "burnt but not yet" type of pleasant taste. My colleagues and I ended up eating a lot of the complimentary bread as a result, which honestly tasted great as well when dipped. We also had a great time conversing so I would also endorse Zaytinya's atmosphere as friendly for conversations. I will most likely return, but just not very frequently because it's not one of those places where I go everyday to be full.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Zaytinya, a hidden gem that transports you straight to the heart of the Mediterranean. The ambiance exudes warmth, with modern decor and soft lighting, creating the perfect setting for an intimate meal. The menu is a symphony of flavors, offering a diverse selection of small dishes inspired by the coastal regions of the Mediterranean. The mezze platter was a delightful start, featuring a variety of hummus, tzatziki, and stuffed grape leaves that showcased the chef's skillful blending of traditional ingredients. For the main course, I opted for the grilled fish, a flavorful medley of perfectly cooked sea bass, infused with aromatic spices. The dish was a true homage to the coastal culinary tradition in Greece. The attentive staff added to the overall experience, providing recommendations and ensuring that every detail of the dining experience was attended to. The wine list complemented the menu beautifully, offering a selection of both local and imported wines that enhanced the flavors of each dish. To conclude the meal, the dessert was a sweet and satisfying ending, featuring layers of flaky pastry, honey, and nuts. It encapsulated the essence of Mediterranean desserts. In summary, Zaytinya is a culinary haven for those seeking an authentic Mediterranean dining experience. From the inviting atmosphere to the expertly crafted dishes, each element comes together to create a memorable journey through the rich and diverse flavors of the Mediterranean. Highly recommended for food enthusiasts and anyone looking to savor the essence of this vibrant cuisine.

DC has a lot of good food - Zaytinya rises above them all! I moved away from the city a few years ago but came back this week for work. I decided to go to Zaytinya alone for an early birthday dinner and was BLOWN AWAY. I’ve always heard such wonderful things - and am so glad I finally decided to investigate for myself. Every restaurant Jose Andrés runs is spectacular, and Zaytinya really does outdo them all. Every course was DELICIOUS. Next time I come I am going to have to bring a group if for nothing else than to get to try more plates. If you go, ask for Lorenzo. He knows this menu front to back and provided me with excellent recommendations. Everything I got was suggested by him and were easily each a 10/10. Folks on here have a lot of comments complaining about the wait or service -> when you go to a restaurant that is THIS in demand you have to be willing to wait for a table. The staff is doing their best to manage a massive crowd. Don’t be a prick, be kind to them. This place is popular for a reason. All in all, I have no complaints. Thank you for making my night incredible!

I came to Zaytinya with a close friend before I caught a mysterious respiratory illness while in DC (aka 'joy vacuum') for work. This must be where all non fed/gov employees go to work because I had a great time! Freeeee pitaaaa! Bavel could never (at $4 a pop). We ordered a hummus and babaganoush, falafel, lamb bharat, and kebab plate. I didn't know the lamb bharat was included in the kebab plate otherwise would've ordered something different. Plenty of food for two. Next time, I want the lamb shoulder & more spreads. I would order the hummus again as it is fun with the garlic crisp. Service was excellent. It got seriously crowded by 630p and it only felt understaffed at that point. But the pita kept coming and our glasses (of water) were full. The bar was annoyingly crowded too since you have to catwalk past it to use the restroom. Presumably because it was happy hour? I have no idea because I don't drink unless I am in Italy or at a gay bar (what's the difference lol). Anyways, it's like Bavel but better because of the inkind app discount and freeee pitaaa!

Everything in this place is top-notch!! Beautiful venue, great staff, awesome service, good choice of music, beautiful crowd, and tasty Mediterranean dishes!! Portions are small but you do not feel that you leave the restaurant hungry since they start your service with fresh bread and olive oil. For a full experience, I would offer the kabob platter + a salad!! Staff are great and know how to keep the crowed happy although it is almost very crowded. Reservation is definitely recommended and note that finding parking space is not easy!! It’s DC, after all!! Overall, one of the best places in DC area✨

Excellence in every way. Atmosphere, service, food quality and variety, and VALUE! We were 2 people and we each did the “Chefs Tasting Menu” for $72 per person and it was a truly massive amount of food - we took a lot home, it could have honestly fed 4 people. The small plates format is perfect for any occasion - a date night, a large gathering of friends, a family meal, a celebration… you could see all these kinds of diners here. Also, it’s notable just how truly massive this place is. Massive covered patio, uncovered patio, two separate indoor dining areas, a bar area, and a special upstairs area. I am seriously trying to think of an occasion I can celebrate here with friends and family - its right in every way. The food itself is all incredible, I particularly loved the kale salad and then mustard-lemon-butter shrimp. I can’t recommend this place enough.

My partner and I stopped by for dinner after visiting the holiday market around the corner last night. We were able to sit near the bar immediately. We were given a balsamic and olive oil dip for the naan. I was not a fan of the dip, but the bread was good. We shared the hommus and artisanal cheese pikilia. Both were incredible. The hommus was the best I have ever had. The flavor was rich. The roussas feta paired with the honeycomb was my favorite of the cheese board. For our main courses, I got the sea scallops and my partner got the lamb baharat. The scallops were perfect, but I did not like the sauce. My partner loved everything about his dish. We were told before we ordered that they served small plates, so I guess we should have anticipated leaving hungry after having spent nearly $100.

Save you’re money and time - don’t come here! Pros : creative cocktails, modern atmosphere, complimentary fresh baked pita. The main meat dishes were cooked fresh to order. Cons : All the dishes needed MORE SEASONING! Because the dishes lacked flavor, we had to ask for harrissa on the side. The vegetable dishes seemed as if they were mass produced and just slapped on the plate. The falafel was cold, small and hard. It was not fresh to order. The hommos ma lahm was also cold and tasted like a cold chili. I’m not sure why the fattoush salad had pita chips in it? It got soggy fast. A lot of the dishes seemed like an after thought. There was no love and attention to detail in the dishes. The service was inconsistent and all over the place. We had to repeat our order multiple times. Over all , we were very disappointed.

It's our third time eating at Zaytinya. We love this restaurant but i got to say this last visit was disappointing. The service was not good. The hostesses were not friendly and our server was very rushed but that's not the worst part. The restroom was disgusting it smelled like urine so bad I couldn't even stand the smell. Even the sinks were disgusting with dirt and pubic hair. I hope a manager sees this and gets someone in there and deep cleaning from top to bottom. If the bathroom is this disgusting who knows about the kitchen. I have a lot of respect for Jose Andres but this wasn't it.

My first time at a José Andrés establishment and it is a triumph indeed. Zaytinya offers an interesting take on modern Greek/Mediterranean cuisine. It turns out if you combine excellent pita crafting with simple upgrades to lamb skewers and finely prepared branzino, you can write a new narrative in approachable old world foods. And before you critique that statement, Greek food is THE old world food, by age and by practice. That said, I'm not sure that there is a celebrity chef who is currently more approachable than Andrés. His vision of the Greek stables, to my limited knowledge, seems to reinforce that fact. This vision is a winner.

We went to Zaytinya for restaurant week and it did not disappoint! So many fun dishes to try (we shared everything we got, which seems like the best way to do it) and everything was fresh and delicious. Hard to tell if the criticisms I had were just because I got too full to really enjoy it (restaurant week is way more courses than I’m used to), so I think I’ll just share the positives. The watermelon salad was CRAZY refreshing and such a fun combination of flavors. The brussel sprouts for me were hall of fame good. The hummus was delicious and the fresh pitas made them all the better. Will definitely be going back to Zaytinya!

The place itself is beautiful, fancy, yet very cozy and inviting. The plates are supposed to be small portions like tapas. I ordered 3 plates since they told me they were small and couldn’t finish it all. I ordered the mushroom kapnistá, bone marrow kibbeh, and hunkar begendi (lamb shank) and they were all sooo delicious! Portions were also bigger than I expected (it was just for one person), if you’re sharing, 3 plates most likely won’t be enough. It’s a little pricey considering I spent $65 before tip for just one person, glass bottle soda is $6 which I think is crazy. It was well worth it and other plates looked really good as well. I’ll be back next time I’m in DC!

5 stars across the board. This is hands down some of the best Mediterranean food I’ve had in the area. I came here for DC restaurant week and was blown away. The decor, food, and service were all phenomenal. I usually don’t particularly love dining during restaurant week because it’s generally not a great value, the portions are small and the quality standard usually is lesser. However, that was not the case here. The restaurant week menu was a great value and had sufficient portions. We ordered a few additional small plates, out of curiosity but it wasn’t a necessity. The food was all very tasty, as well as the cocktail on special. Service was great from the hostesses to the server and bussers. Everyone was very pleasant and professional. I definitely intend on coming back.

Zaytinya is definitely a 5 star quality restaurant. Walking into the front door you’re welcomed by a beautiful, well decorated interior with a Mediterranean vibe. The hostesses and servers are kind and accommodating. Each dish is plated nicely and tastes even better. Everything was fresh and flavorful. Our favorite items were the Brussels, the shrimp dish, the fries, the cauliflower and the chicken kibabs. The food is served Mezze style so you will definitely need to order multiple plates.

Well this restaurant is a bougée one downtown with many choices of good foods and tapas. The drinks were really good, and it’s definitely a good place to hang out with friends. The foods are creative, but not so much different from the good foods outside for its price. We ordered too much foods, but was overall satisfied with quality. The chicken pieces in the kabab platter were really good. Also don’t eat too much bread in advance.

Listen, Zatinya by Jose Andres is a masterpiece in Washington, D.C. From brunch, lunch, to dinner, it effortlessly secures its spot in my top ten list of dependable restaurants. The fusion of Turkish, Greek, and Middle Eastern flavors is a delight to the taste buds. The open and well-lit dining room creates a welcoming atmosphere. With a constant supply of fresh ingredients, dishes like feta cheese, Brussels, lamb kleftiko, and shrimp is are irresistible. The bread, a perfect companion, begs to be dipped in the flavorful sauces. Just the thought of it has me drooling

I was really disappointed in my experience. Zaytinya is my favorite restaurant in the world! We came to DC this weekend, from Chicago, just to come to dinner here. The hostesses are so unbelievably unfriendly and rolled their eyes when I was saying how excited I was to be here again. Our server also had strange, aloof robotic responses. It made the experience very uncomfortable. The food however, is absolutely fantastic! My very favorite is the Brussels sprouts. I literally ate the entire plate by myself. The baba ganoush and the Pita are outstanding. The salmon was cooked perfectly.

Great food and service! I’ve been here many times with family, colleagues, and on dates. My favorite thing is the complimentary bread!! I wish the food was a little hotter but I understand it’s not always possible to have it come out piping hot. Our waitress surprised with us an item not on the menu- lamb kleftiko! Would recommend! The eggplant badiyam was our favorite, and the drinks were good but a little syrupy, too sweet. Would come back again and again!

Had a fantastic meal at Zaytinya! We split a handful of dishes, none of which disappointed. The hummus was delicious, the cauliflower and falafel were great, and we really enjoyed the chicken with garlic toum. To finish the meal the Greek yogurt with apricot was incredible, a really nice mix of flavors and textures. Our server was great and helped space out the dishes we ordered so it didn't all arrive at once.

Great restaurant with a great vibe, location, and setting in downtown DC. Pide, spanokopita, falafels, tzatziki, and hummus were all amazing. In addition, the za'atar margarita was a refreshing drink and a must try! For desserts, the chocolate rose and turkish coffee cake were nice. Small plates make it a perfect place for larger groups and to try various exquisite dishes. Be sure to reserve beforehand!

Athmosphere is very lively. The place is buzzing with guests and the fine people caring for them. I didn't expect some of the dishes that were well known to me from their region of origin to hold up to direct comparison, but everything was spectacularily good. We tried an array of different dishes such as htipiti with roasted red pepper, the cheese pide, the falafel and the shish taouk. Everything was so well prepared and was very flavorful. Gorgeous space with very attentive service. The food was amazing and fresh with quality ingredients and attention to detail. Cocktail list was interesting and drinks were good. Definitely coming back - this is my favorite of Jose Andres' restaurants yet!

Absolutely fantastic!! Very accommodating to gluten and dairy free. We got the hummus with ground lamb, babaganoush, maroulosalata, mixed kebab platter and fries. Everything was mouthwatering and worth every penny.

This is the best dinner I have had over the past year. Every dish is amazing (scallops, salmon, brussels, cauliflower, octopus, stuffed eggplant). Will definitely bring friends back.

I ordered the kebab platter, which consisted of lamb, beef and chicken. All the three items were very well cooked and tasted flavorful. Utterly delicious. The waiter was great but the service was extremely slow. The ambience was lovely and lively

Unpopular opinion: this place is not worth the hype. I’ve been wanting to try this place for the longest time- the food was not excellent nor was it horrible, but it was so underwhelming. Our favorite was the free bread and the hummus.

+ we had a lovely lady as our server who recommended best choises + meat was delicious + creative design and beautiful salon - music doesn't match the environment - portion of desserts were much larger than Mezza dishes

The hostess was so kind; immediately walking in, the atmosphere was amiable. A good place for dinner and to get drinks after work. The octopus is a winner. Of the lamb chops, one was overcooked, and the other was not. Even though the plates are tapa style, all portions were quite shareable.

Came for restaurant week, sat on the patio. Service was attentive and brisk, food came quickly and was tasty but nothing mind-blowing. We were seated outside on the patio and got mosquito bites wish they maybe had some repellent sprayed around the perimeter.

Best restaurant while our stay in DC. Every meal has something to amaze us, Brussels sprouts and hummus are on everyone’s table , so we ordered the same , which was really delicious. Staffs are friendly and welcoming, definitely will come back when we visit DC.

Recommend the Chef's Tasting Menu if you're hungry and it's your first time at the restaurant. Really enjoyed the spreads, chicken, and dessert.

The ambiance and the vibe are awesome. Service was quick and polite. Loved the fresh unlimited pita bread. The only con is the portion size which was quite small. Overall great place to experience Lebanese cuisine.

Had a nice lunch here. The food was definitely tasty and seasoned nicely. My favorite was the Hommus Ma Lahm. I’d come back next time I’m in town and check out a few more menu options.

I felt welcomed from the moment I walked in. The atmosphere was nice and modern and service by Camila C was impeccable. Highly recommend the Chef’s tasting menu for $75 but be warned, it’s a lot of (very good) food for one person!

The steaming hot bread with the baba ghanoush and the hummus with lamb were the stars of the show right at the beginning. Too good to even get a pic of before they were half gone. The rest was fine but I'd go back again just for the dips and sips

Excellent food. The best dishes I had were the Avgolemono soup and the branzino. The decor of the place is so nice and our server was on top of everything. Can’t wait to go back.

Came here for lunch - the serving sizes was really small, and for $50 didnt get much food. Taste was great though! The lamb shoulder and cheese pastry was wonderful.
