This house is beyond beautiful with an interesting family history. A very unique home and, although it’s smaller than Dundurn Castle, the home actually has more to offer in beauty and in engaging stories. So happy I made a trip down to see it. The tour guide was so accommodating and friendly, with a thorough knowledge of the house. More
It is a nice gem situated in the DT Hamilton. Since all the contents were kept well from the original owner to the city, lots of interesting facts and stories can be easily explored. It is said that one can visit this place free if he/she holds a Hamilton library card. The guided tour is a must to visit the site! More
If you are a history buff or an interested Hamiltonian its a fun place to go. I am now avidly reading a book all about the family. Took the grand children on a tour .There is a kids area for fun art project and games. So its a place for young and old. Online tickets provide discounts.
I went on a tour when I was just a kid... Either as a school trip or possibly in 'Brownies' lol but it stuck with me enough that I returned when I was 23 to take my wedding photos here! My wedding was in August 2006 and they turned out beautifully. A definite hidden gem in Hamilton.
Really well informed and.entertaining guides take you through a changing selection of local historical stories: different stories every time we visit. Tea, cookies, lemonade and live period music served in the perennial gardens 12 to 2pm on Wednesdays throughout summer.
Took advantage of heritaweekend in Hamilton and visited Whitehern. Although I have been in the house many times it was my 1st guided tour the tutor guide was excellent and I learned a lot about the house and the family that lived here. Worthwhile!!! More
Literally SURROUNDED by homeless encampments. Absolutely horrifyingly scary part of the city and I turned around when I saw the area. They even had a security guard posted by the door! YIKES!!! Never ever ever going near this place ever again.
Unlike many historical venues, original pieces are rare or entirely absent. Quite the opposite here! The house is near fully restored. What makes this home an outstanding experience is the personal tour personnel, namely Nonni. You learn
Was looking for something to do on a Sunday and decided on Whitehern House, and I must say we were extremely impressed. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made our tour both interesting and informative. Entry prices are very reasonable
A stunning place, with amazing history. Our tour guide was really really engaging, and what stood out from all the other tours was that, she really made sure you knew about these people and what happened in this house. You walked out of
My husband and I had a really enjoyable tour today! Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and the home was really well preserved. I would highly recommend visiting here before the Dundas Castle for greater context and comparison. More
Love love love this location, I attended on class trips in elementary and still enjoy the gardens every year now in my 30s, with my daughters. It's been a joy to share this beautiful location and it's history with young Hamiltonians.
A historic house in the middle of downtown Hamilton: as incongruous with the high rises surrounding it as it is wonderful. Stepping into this stately house is like going back in time to the 1930’s in the heyday of this wealthy and
My husband and I enjoyed a very thorough and information packed two hours with a lovely docent named Nonni. She brought the family of three generations of folks to life with great humor and detail. The house was exquisite and very
This is a lovely gracious home to visit. A tour is included as soon as you walk in the door. The uniqueness about this home is that all the furnishings are original. The owner that lived in this house was very successful and his
This is an excellent place to see history of Hamilton and what shaped our city. Even 5 yr old Granddaughter found the information and buildings very interesting. Well worth a summer afternoon. Can also book room for parties.
Loved the tour of this home. Our guide was clearly passionate about the home and the family and loved what she did. It was an absolute joy. To have a home with so many original pieces let you really feel the history.
We've our tour of this very interesting home . It is a place frozen in time. Everything in it is original and used/handled by the family. The story of incredible industry and exceptional tragedy was quite gripping.
Such a lovely place to visit! The guided tour was great! So much information and guidance by himself was amazing! So many interesting items to see and they keep it so well! I think I will come back. More
Beautiful and authentic historical home and garden. This house has lots of stories to tell! It really is set up better to buy your tickets online ahead of time. Lots of nearby parking at city hall. More
A hidden treasure in the heart of the city. This historic home has many original furnishings and beautifully restored rooms of the original family of prominence and importance to the City! A must see!
It was a delightful tour. The docent was very informative and attentive. The home was gorgeous filled with memories and contained items that provided historical context of the inhabitants. More
Great tour guide - knew the answer to every question, didn't stumble once. Beautiful old home with lots to see. Excellent website with tons of additional archival information. Lovely museum.
Very interesting historical property and family story. Guided tours only - make sure you're there at one of the tour times. And if you have a Hamilton library card, you're in for free! More
Marvelous museum at the very centre of city! and the very professional guide will provide an interesting excursion through all the house for you [ even if you are an only one visitor! ].
The history behind this house was very interesting. Not much is curated as everything you see, personal affects, furnishings, and draperies were all donated by the McQuesten family. More
Informative and well maintained museum. Great staff sharing fascinating history about Hamilton and surrounding area. Well worth the visit, both inside the historic home and the gardens.
Took my family from out of town during the weekend and it was great. While the area is not welcoming because of all the tents, we weren't bothered and everyone had a good time. More
Wonderful tour today at this house. Our guide was great and knowledgeable and the history of the family was fascinating. A must visit for anyone who loves a genuine heritage home.
This place was so cool. The staff was so nice. My friend didn’t have a library card but they still gave both of us a free tour and souvenirs afterwards.
Gorgeous house with an interesting history. We had a wonderful tour guide who was extremely knowledgeable and informative. Highly recommended. More
What a pleasure to officiate a wedding here today for a wonderful couple. Beautiful setting for an outdoor wedding ceremony.
It's a little paradise right downtown Hamilton. Their park is small, cozy and beautiful. I love coming here all year round.
Very nice place to visit. The house carries lot of history and valuables like orginal books etc. We had great guide, too.
Great place for an outdoor wedding but you’ll need to time the sermon with the train schedule that runs right behind.
Don't go there after 3:00PM. They won't let you in, because their last tour leaves at 3:00PM.
