I've been here dozens of times and it's a great park. One night I went to meet a group of about 20 people late at night. We were going to walk around the park a little and play Ingress and then move to an area downtown. I was about the fifth person there and I was told that a DPS officer had told the others that we couldn't stay because the park was closed. They said he was watching us. So, we stayed by our cars waiting for the rest of our group to arrive. Then this giant, shaved-head, angry looking DPS officer walks over and nastily says "Was I being too polite to you people...?" We explained that we were waiting for the rest of our group but if he would like, we could leave and he could spend the next half hour chasing off 15 other people (no, we weren't as rude as that). Then he says, real nasty again, "OH, so you aren't just disrespecting me?" I've met a few other officers at this park and they were all very polite and equally respectful as I was to them; a real credit to their department. However, I think this guys necktie was there to hold the foreskin back... I wonder if that attitude was the serve or the protect part. Other officers have told me that they just don't want people vandalizing the park. You would think that its common sense that good people in the park would scare away bad people. But, I know the officers don't make the rules. Definitely check this park out. Just don't stick around after sunset.
Located on the west side of Downtown Phoenix, the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza serves as the Legislative Governmental Mall in front of the Arizona State Capitol building. Established in 1978, it is home to many memorials representing wars, veterans, events, and people with a connection to Arizona. I really enjoyed learning the history of each one. Famed events that everyone is familiar with, but also Arizona figures that may not be as well known. Each memorial was built and dedicated by a different organization, and each one is unique and beautiful. One of my favorites was the 9/11 memorial that was in the shape of a sundial, and as the sun pours through the cut-out words, it projects them below as a timeline of events. I was intrigued to learn and read everything about AZ judge/senator/governor/supreme court Justice Ernest "Mac" Mcfarland. The firefighter memorial was sobering to see the names of those killed on duty (including the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots) listed by year, sadly, with plenty of space to add on. The largest memorial is dedicated to the USS Arizona ship. The memorial itself is a cool shape representing the size of the ship and a replica of the anchor. These are just a few! I was captivated walking through the park. You could spend hours here if you read every plaque. I highly recommend visiting and then exploring the Capitol museum next door.
The State of Arizona has done a remarkable job with all of their memorials to the people who settled the state, to those who served in the military, to those who lost their lives in law enforcement and first responders. Their WWII memorial is especially touching. They have guns from the USS Arizona (the flag ship at the beginning of WWII), to the USS Missouri (the flag ship at the end of the war). Between them are the names of all service men & women who gave the ultimate sacrifice during the war. The names are engraved on stainless steel plaques and are hung so that they wave in the wind. It gives the appearance of waves on the ocean. It is very well done. Being a Vietnam veteran, I especially like what they did to honor my brothers and sisters who gave everything they had over there. The reflecting pool at the USS Arizona anchor needs some work. But, other than that, I highly commend the state for what they've done!
Wesley Bolin Plaza is the most comprehensive memorial park we've been to across the United States. The monuments are truly works of art that honor those that have served our great country in every capacity. The Arizona Memorial is an honor to see and stand beneath. We've never seen memorials for many of the other events in history so being able to read about those events was enlightening. The park is very well maintained and beautiful. It's a peaceful place to visit for the day, delve into history and honor those that have served. If you're a history buff, plan to stay awhile, there are numerous memorials spread throughout the park.

I had a few minutes before a meeting at the Capitol, so I took time to read the little hometown-style monuments. Touching! Made me a bit teary-eyed to look back into history at the names of the old west sheriffs and marshals who gave their lives to keep the peace in our wild territory. The passing cars brought me back to 2017, at which point I noticed that some of our modern day peace officer heroes had their names right next to the old time heroes. Wesley Bolin Plaza gave me a surprising connection to part of our history -- and they were just men doing their jobs. They couldn't even picture us, but they helped give us what we have today in this beautiful state.
Near the State Capitol, this plaza holds quite a few interesting memorials including the anchor for the USS Arizona which was sunk by the Japanese during the battle at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. This park sits between two one way streets that lead to an from the state capital from the downtown area of Phoenix. There is free parking in the park. This area does get used throughout the year as a start and end point for various run and walk events throughout the year so might be worth looking into if you are planning to visit on a weekend.

Went for the annual 7A rally, and it was a great turnout. Thousands of armed but peaceful citizens rallying for their 2nd amendment constitutional rights. There was zero trash or littering to be seen. There was a heavy police presence, but no arrests were reported, as well as zero violence. There was a half dozen food trucks, so plenty of variety to choose from. Tents and tables were set up pushing their political agendas, as well as various political candidates running for office that were volleying for support. Very well organized and executed event.
For me, the sole reason for the 5 star review is the anchor from the USS Arizona which is at the bottom of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. To be able to touch a piece of history from that "day of infamy" is quite extraordinary. The accompanying memorial with the names of soldiers lost is also sobering. And of course the rest of the plaza is interesting with numerous statues and other items of interest. One could spend 30 minutes here... easy.

Beautiful grounds. Ample parking (when the Legislature is not in session). Very sunny, limited shade. Wide walking paths. Wheelchair friendly. Memorials of significant Arizona leaders as well as local heros and first responders. Must see the WWII - Pearl Harbor display which includes guns from the deck of the USS Arizona and USS Missouri. Pleasant walk to the State Capital, which has additional memorials on the lawn. There is a free museum inside, with a large display of artifacts recovered from the sunken USS Arizona.
All Phoenix area citizens should visit this place at least once...kind of like the Grand Canyon! This place represents why you and all reading this are FREE! Oh...and it’s free. No money spent too see this place so there’s no excuse. Great military monuments of all branches and wars. But wait, there’s more. The guns of the USS Arizona and Missouri are waiting to meet you. It’s way cool to stand underneath them imagining how loud they must have sounded. Just amazing! Speaking of Navy ships: Go Navy, beat Army!⚓️
A great plaza that honors military veterans, law enforcement, and others. Good parking. Some vagrants are in the area but it's surrounded by government buildings and law enforcement is always around. It will take you several hours to see everything. Yesterday was my fourth visit as part of the annual Tour Of Honor Rally, thus explaining the rally flag in the photograph at the Vietnam memorial.

The area is beautiful and full of life. You can’t help but feel patriotic around a capitol building! I’ve been here for events like the Race for the Cure, the Women’s March, and another capitol event and it’s a great facility for an outdoor gathering. The one thing the plaza is missing is a restroom. Getting here is a pain. One way streets and limited free parking is bothersome. Not much else in the area other than government buildings, so make sure you have transportation for other plans if you visit.
Watched the C-47 flyover at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. Beautiful setting for this event. Unfortunately there was less than 50 people there to honor and pay tribute to our fallen soldiers, sailors and airmen on the 79th Anniversary of Pearl Harbor. Where has the patriotism gone in this country? History does repeat itself. Today if Americans don't see this on social media and it's not their agenda then it's not important. Wake up America, military personnel lose their lives every day for your freedom.
Attended the Hot Chocolate Race in this park. It's a yearly event I attend. The park maintenance has the difficult task of keeping up with the trash and PortaPotty bathrooms. For the most part they're doing a great job. After the Race it can become a bit of a challenge. The statutes represent a time in history for those interested in fact finding. I've never been to this park without there being an event going on.

I wish I had known about this memorial downtown, I was very impressed with the memorial to fallen firefighters. As you go down the sidewalk toward the capitol there are columns with facts about Arizona, so definitely worth taking a stroll. I attended the Women's March and thought the grounds were well kept and the area was very well secured. Most of downtown has been cleaned up a great deal and modernized. Definitely still some areas to avoid after dark as there are with any major cities.
If you are visiting west of the downtown Phoenix area, stop by Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza. It holds a collection of around 30 monuments and memorials to the history of Arizona and beyond. One of my favorite pieces is the anchor/mast/memorial to USS Arizona. Check inside the capitol museum for more pieces from USS Arizona. Others include a Korean War Memorial with a large bell structure, a Vietnam War memorial reminiscent of the paneled wall in Washington DC, and the 911 Memorial.
As a frequent visitor to Phoenix, I was really looking forward to the memorial plaza. It is a very nice tribute but it really needs some upkeep. Several of the plaques were unreadable and also some memorials needed to be painted and needed lights replaced. This memorial is a great tribute. I was really looking forward to seeing it but it could have much better if the maintenance was up to date

What a beautiful memorial! This memorial has always been really nice, but they have made it so much nicer. The whole place has a lot of wonderful memorial plaques, statues, and art. It is a memorial to military, law enforcement, firefighters and others as well. It is also right across the street from the beautiful Capitol Building... where you can get food and take a tour... (pre-covid, unknown if you can still get food at the cafeteria now). Highly recommend!
This place is packed with memorials. The main attraction for us is the WW2 memorial featuring the USS Arizona's anchor and one of her cannons as well as one from the USS Missouri. They've also got monuments for WW1, Korea, Vietnam and 9/12. There's monuments for the code talkers, specific units, police officers, K-9 officers and many more. I would recommend visiting this place early morning/late afternoon during the heat of the summer.
The Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza is a wonderfully detailed memorial to all the men and women who have served in our military, worked as firefighters and police. This memorial is located across from the Arizona Capitol Museum in Phoenix. There are a few stairs. One could easily take over an hour reading each inscription at each memorial. A real treasure for those who love war/military museums and memorials. It's FREE!
What an amazing place to remember all of those veterans from Arizona who have served our military to preserve our freedom. Every branch of the military, the USS Arizona and Missouri and so many others. All remembered for serving our awesome country. Everyone should check this place out and remember.

A place large enough to make a community's voice heard. I participated at a support for a Romanian family from Germany, that lost all 5 kids to cps for no good reasons. There was another group of indieni natives to protest about their lost childrens. I saw also a disturbing white truck that reeled into that group screaming black life matter, but the indians we're not disturbed. They continued on their chantings.
This is NOT a tourist attraction. This is a memorial site. A place to honor fallen service military members. A solom place to remember all those who have died for service of state and country. The Arizona memorial for those who died in the attack on Pearl Harbor. Now inside the capital building is a very interesting display of hundreds of artifacts from the USS Arizona. That is worth seeing.
A nice memorial right across the street from the state capital. There are many different memorials scattered across the plaza, including ones for Vietnam, the Navajo Code Talkers, and the Armenian Genocide. It’s a good place to reflect and spend some time walking around.

This is a really beautiful park. I went to catch some Pokémon (which if you're into is a good place to go) but ended up spending a lot of extra time admiring the many amazing memorials and statues. I went at night and wish it was just a little better lit because downtown Phoenix can always be a little worrisome at night. But we didn't hardly see anyone and had a great time.
Pretty cool place. I served in Desert Storm, and our monument is... Sorry... Pretty bad. All of the other monuments are very respectful. This one is very different. Look, I understand that you can't compare the death count to other wars, but the plaque is ridiculous. Our mural is just a bit too far out there for me. The rest of the monuments are definitely worth visiting.
A nice open place in front of the State Capital that houses the states memorials. Of note is the USS Arizona/World War 2 memorial having a gun from the USS Arizona (off for repair when sunk) and one off the USS Missouri). The firefighters memorial is also very nice and the entire area is a good place for a touch of tranquility in the madness of the city.
This is a memorial park, in fact, several. There are memorials celebrating the contributions of many different people and organizations. Allow a couple hours to wander through the park. There are several displays and educational plaques around the area describing the actions behind the memorials, including a large display about the USS Arizona.
Love this place! Amazing memorials from firefighters to military to service dogs. The lawn is maintained amazingly well by the guests of the county, thank you for that. I hate my kittens there too play, and they love it.

Beautiful park grounds with several memorials, water features, sculptures, etc. Grounds are well manicured and the walkways are kept clean. Great to visit for educational purposes while visiting the capitol museum too or just to walk through for some exercise outdoors if you work in any of the nearby state buildings or offices.
What a great place to walk around and pay homage to numerous war memorial sites. I really appreciated that they have one recognizing the Armenian genocide - Something our government has avoided due to politics related to hurting Turkey's feelings. I'm very glad to have visited this....a great job by the city of Phoenix
This is an awesome collection of memorials, big and small. There are some that you'd be surprised by, and some that will have you linger for a while and think about many of the events and people who helped shape our country and our state. The free parking is nice so you can start near and spend time reflecting on our past.
We came here to watch the Valley of the Suns Cycling Race that took place in February. There’s so many things to see. A great place to take kids as there’s so much information all around the park, and lots of soft grass to run around on. However, I don’t remember seeing a public restroom, you may have to use one elsewhere.
Such a peaceful park near the Capitol building. So many unique memorials to see ... USS Arizona, Firefighters, 9/11 memorials to name a few. Reasonably easy access to parking but beware of all the one way streets! Well worth the visit

I've been to a couple of events here and both times there were noisy generators running to power the PA system. There should be clean and quiet power available Update: on my most recent visit in January 2019, no noisey generators! Everything was plugged in and working just fine. Yay. Thanks
What a great memorial to so many significant historical events. A shame that there are some empty spaces that a statue or plaque has recently been removed. Good or bad, it is part of our history and removing the reminder doesn't change a thing for the good, but may slow the change of a bad.
It was a very pleasant experience. It was nice to see how many Arizonians have been honored who have fought and died serving our country throughout American history.

An incredible place to visit & learn a little history about our capital here in Phoenix. The park with it's statues & different stone monuments was peaceful & beautiful. The steam pipe was tremendous. On the return trip, I want to read more about the history behind the memorial.

Visiting this well-maintained memorial park was a moving and sobering experience, remembering the many, many men and women who have given their lives for the good of others, and not just in the service organizations, but in multiple ways. It is well worth the time spent.
Wonderful place to view great memorials. The best is the huge gun barrels from the battleships "Arizona" and "Missouri" not to mention the anchor and signal mast from the "Arizona, leisurely stroll..self guided. Also the state capitol is there, historic, built in 1912.
If in Phoenix, or anywhere near, this is a must place to visit! I can't believe how fantastic it is. Visit, and you will tell all your family and friends to visit also.

Great place to visit and read about those who have fought and died for us Americans to be able to wake up everyday and have the opportunity live peacefully. Was busy on memorial day. RIP and bless the families whose loved ones died for America to prosper.
It's nice to look at and drive around as a "center piece" in the area but downtown Phoenix has a large unhoused population, and they frequent the park. Just be vigilant when walking around. I wouldn't leave my vehicle overnight in the parking lot either.
A lot of different sites. Police Military Firefighter much more. We really enjoyed this put together well great job. Free admission free parking. Across the street from the Arizona State Capitol Museum. We have been there multiple times and will return.
Beautiful monuments that cause you to reflect from over 100 years of service from men and women. A place to bring kids to answer the questions they start to ask. This gets them involved in young years which I feel is great to have some american pride.
Such a wonderful park.. PLEASE TAKE SOME TIME TO VISIT! It has been an honor... Just remembering all those who sacrifice their lives for us will never be forgotten. Thank you to all the service men and women that protect this country for our freedom.
It is very moving to visit here, with about 60 monuments ranging from memorializing WWII veterans, to American working people, to 9/11. Plan on spending an hour or so to walk around and see them all. There are also good views of the State capitol.

A place for Real History. Unlike the public schools who cut history. Take a long walk through this park on the weekend and spend an hour or so walking around with the kids and teach them true American History. Highly recommend it! 5***** A+++
This is a great Memorial site that abundant in Historical times of great men and women whom have served this country proudly! As a Career Veteran it I can only say that it displays All acts of Bravery. Definitely worth the visit. - Justice
Great little park in downtown Phoenix for quite reflection, having lunch or a picnic or just taking a walk around to see all of the many memorials that commemorate big military events and others that have impacted our state and/or country.
Nice atmosphere, well kept park. The memorials are spectacular I have to admit I dropped some tears as I read the names on the Vietnam wall. The statutes were so realistic. There we're memorials throughout the park for different things.
Nice place to visit right next to the State Capitol in Phoenix, showing different monuments of fallen soldiers in the many wars the US was involved.

The historic aspect of the park is amazing but the park seems to have been left in disrepair. No fountains were running and some were down right broken. The grass had obviously not been watered in weeks and was littered with trash.
Very nice memorial so many things to look at and images to see so many memories are fallen soldiers and people who have shared and given their life so that we can have our freedoms that we take for granted today God bless America
My daughter and I recently went to this park for the Walk to End Alzheimers. It was very peaceful and calm. Plenty of parking space and room to hold such a big event. It would be a nice place for a Wedding or Party photo shoot.
Peaceful and beautifully landscaped. Interesting and touching memorials. It was a great place to stroll around. It would be a good place to take children as they could safety expend energy while learning about history and art.

Honors our heroes from various careers. Beautiful. Well designed and a great place to reflect and be thankful on a pride and national level. Great place to find your peace and honor amazing people and groups.
Memorials could be construed as boring and not on your Top 10 things to do, but the way Phoenix brought to life 40 different memorials is truly special. Make the time to walk this site and do so thoughtfully.
A peaceful solumn place. You can feel the sacrifice and dedication of all those memorialized there. Two men were polishing the Gold Star memorial. Their commitment to their loves ones who died was touching.

Nicely presented memorial to our nation's first responders and military. Every service organization represented. Beautiful exhibit in a State Capital setting. Clean, safe and free
A fine expression of Arizona's values, many of them good. But The Confederate soldiers memorial is twice the size of the Martin Luther King jr memorial. That's gotta to change...
USS ARIZONA & USS Missouri Big Battle Ship Guns Placed by the Citizens of AZ with SOS Ken Bennett 2013 and the American Legion Riders of Post 138 leading nearly 2000 motorcycles.
A lot of time and effort went into the construction and planning of these memorials. An attraction that was least expected as I made my way to the State Capitol with my kids.
Our annual meet up for the Alzheimer’s awareness walk... Tbey make it super easy to find parking and it’s a beautiful spot in the midst of downtown with ample space. …
Such a beautiful full of rich Arizona history. Our capital building is here. Some great statues and memorials as well. If you get a half day to spend here it's a good idea.

My best friend and brother Nick Ivie was killed while on duty as a border patrol officer and his name rest upon this monument for all of us to pay are respect.
Our Arizona state capitol is quite historic, interesting and educational and a must visit . I highly recommend it for the entire family , Wolfgang S. Marconi
My favorite part was the canine memorial and the memorial for the merchant marines and while I was there they were having the 5K and 10K run beautiful Park
Had a nice stroll around the memorials. The displays are very attractive but I did find the description to the WW2 one to be a little confusing.
Very cool plaza of memorials to those lost in the various wars. Nice and clean, and some shade...warmmmm the day we were there, though.
Every now and then I walk between the monuments and remind myself of the surrounding greatness. In awe one humbly stays....
Beautiful Plaza to visit...our first time and we still had more area to cover.. will next time when the weather is cooler.
We ran across this place on accident. It's a beautiful place. The memorial of the USS Arizona is amazing
Nice walk around the park. Looked at different statues and memorials to past wars, service members etc.
A beautiful park with memorials to the different wars fought by the USA, it’s austere and respectful.
We had a wonderful day visiting All of the memorials. Beautiful grounds and very well planned out.
It's An Amazing Park where You can Learn about The Amazing people who Fought for our Freedom
Good place to spend some time and learn about sacrifices given by Military/ Peace officer
Great place to take a walk, and enjoy the memorials. #AmericanHistory and #ArizonaHistory
