This is more than a train stop it is also a history in time lesson. Travel almost 300 feet down and see a core earth sample that is connected to the history of time. I "travelled" down with my family and we got a kick out of seeing the trains zoom in and out of this station. It's mighty cold down there so you'll want to bring a sweatshirt to keep warm.
When out of town guests come to visit me, one of the first places I take them to is the Washington Park MAX Station. It's an amazing underground station. The deepest one in North America. There's a core sample, showing the layer of rocks and sediment they had to dig through. It's beautiful, and the rush of air from the incoming trains is exhilarating.
The station is located in a former mineshaft, there are art installations depicting evolution. The entire station is very clean, well lit and well ventilated. There are no staircases, you would have to take a large elevator to travel in and out the station. Very cool!!!
Love this station. So fascinating to see the MAX come and go through the long tunnel. You can feel the air being pushed into the waiting area when the max is arriving. And Lots of historical info on the walls to read while waiting for the rail.
The best Max station in the entire system due to its fascinating existence. It is the deepest transit stations in all of North America and one of the deepest in the world.
Amazing place to go even if you're not riding the train. So much information about the Earth and art! Some seating available, decent restrooms and clean elevators.
Apparently the 5th deepest subway transit tunnel in the world and the deepest in the US. Huh. Actually deepest in the Americas/this entire half of the globe!!!
This station is great place as it opens path to incredible Oregon ZOO and Washington Park. It has huge elevators to the upper level and is clean.
An excellent station and a much visit for any visitor to Portland. Much recommended to see an an engineering marvel.
I have always loved this stop. Some of my earliest memories are of the core samples.
Two words: The elevator. (also the core samples and the wealth of scientific info)
I brought my friends here to show them their relatives.
