This is the review I didn’t want to write but I hope it prevents others from experiencing a similar disaster. Photo 1) the color I had going into the salon Photo 2) the color I asked for Photo 3 & 4) the color I got Photo 5) careless color application with missed spots Photo 6) the color correction so I could leave the salon and be seen in public I came in to lighten/dye my hair from a fairly dirty blonde (Photo 1: natural roots with blonde highlights) to a strawberry ash blonde (Photo 2) on 02/21/22. I sat in the chair with TeeJay and asked if she was comfortable working with my hair because it’s curly, thick, and we were doing color - if she wasn’t, I was happy to make a new appointment at a later date. She told me she could handle it. As you can see from Photo 3, gigantic mistakes were made in color mixing. In addition to the color, my hair was striped from uneven application of color and multiple areas had my root color still showing (Photo 4). I won’t bring everyone through the 6 hour saga of attempting to fix the complete disaster of what happened, but they attempted to apply semi-permanent solutions (toner that would wash out after 2-3 washes) to what was now a permanent problem as my base hair color was clown orange. I ended up needing to call my sister (a stylist in NC) to help with damage control. TeeJay got on the phone with her and was unable to answer questions about what she did color-wise to my hair or explain how her proposed solutions would fix it, which is concerning. TeeJay ended up becoming overwhelmed and refusing to talk to my sister. At that point, I had lost all trust and decided to allow my sister to trouble shoot solutions since she’s been doing hair for a decade and I trust her. She informed me the only real way to permanently fix the base color, without bleach, is to go dark enough to cover the orange. So I walked out at 11pm as a brunette with orange tint (photo 5). TeeJay and Jessica (senior stylist who stayed to help) were kind throughout this process, followed through when I ask them to mix the color based on my sisters recommendation, and did not charge me for the color. That being said, this was the worst experience I’ve had in 15 years of getting my hair done and I’m now hundreds of dollars and many months away from being able to get my hair back to where it was color-wise prior to this experience - all of which I have to pay to fix myself. UPDATE: To address the owners comments - we did tone it and it didn’t work. We also used Pulp Riot CPR which also didn’t work.
I am new to Austin and had high expectations for Urban Betty but, unfortunately, did not have a good experience getting highlights at the salon. The booking process was disjointed and time consuming. Upon making the appointment, I was asked to upload photos of my desired hair color to the website. I get my hair highlighted every few months and have lots of photo examples of the look I like, which I uploaded to the site. After that, I was asked to also DM the exact same photos to my stylist over Instagram. Over instagram my stylist tried to upsell me on an expensive hair treatment process that I did not want or ask for. She told me that it was necessary to achieve the best look (this is all before even seeing my hair in person). At this point I got a bad feeling and should have cancelled. When I got to the salon, my stylist spent hardly any time explaining what she was going to do, but I trusted her since she came recommended from Urban Betty and had many photo examples to work from. Compared to all of my other highlight experiences, I don’t believe my stylist was thorough. She did not use very many foils and seemed to rush through the appointment. When I got home I realized that the tone of color was the opposite of what I asked for. I was able to go back in for an appointment to fix it. However, my stylist asked that I pay over the phone (and tip) before my re-so appointment. It was strange to be asked to pay for a service that I was not yet satisfied with. My stylist was also defensive when I asked for the re-do. She said the reason why my hair turned out the wrong color is because I had to leave early. (I had to step outside to take a phone call. I was told I wouldn’t be able to come back in but that my hair was done.) Had I known my hair needed more time, I would’ve rescheduled my call. I left the second appointment feeling a little better about the color but after a couple weeks with it I’m just totally disappointed. The highlights start in random places around my roots (which are still very visible). My hair has orange tones when I asked for ashy. I work in customer support and I don’t take leaving negative feedback lightly but that is how unhappy I am with this result and experience. At the end of the day this service cost almost $500 (which I am used to paying for good quality). I amgoing to another salon next week to have my hair re-highlighted.
This is not meant to be a dig at my particular stylist or their knowledge and skills but just an overall experience complaint. I have been to Urban Betty (both locations) a handful of times (over 5 times) in the course of the last year. Each time I have had decent experiences with salon atmosphere and general demeanor of my stylists. However, after my last 2 visits (Congress location), I worry for future clients. In the first visit, I came to the salon with an idea and inspiration pictures for what I wanted my hair to look like. I was told that this would likely be possible and we got started on getting my hair to the goal. This appointment was taking a lot longer than initially anticipated and due to other appointments my stylist had I felt rushed out of the salon with results that were less than acceptable so much so that the stylist told me that the visit was free. I felt terrible about this considering how much time and effort went into my less-than-ideal result and insisted that they charge me for at least something, which they did. We scheduled a follow up appointment for two weeks out. Today, was my follow up appointment and I left the salon crying. I am not one to care at all about my hair but think it once again was the amount of time I spent in the chair and effort that the stylist put in which resulted in my huge disappointment and sadness. I am a little closer to my initial hair goal but still nowhere near acceptable or feeling at all confident showing myself in public. Honestly, I think I could have achieved the same result at home for a lot cheaper too. I am sad that I spent time, and a decent chunk of money, this time, for something that is not bringing me joy. In the future, I believe that it should be made more of a practice for stylists to share concerns, potential outcomes of requested services, and estimated appointment length. I don’t know what sharing my experience will do but hopefully others won’t have similar sadness leaving the Urban Betty salon.
Bad service, double/triple booking and terrible scheduling I booked an appointment about a week in advance and confirmed the appointment online, via text and via email. The booking process asks the customer to indicate the service and lists the stylists with the estimated service time. Upon arriving for my appointment, I was asked to wait 5 mins because the stylist was running late. This wait turned out to be 20 mins. The stylist then said hi and said she will be with me in a few minutes after she finishes blow drying another client. She then chats with me for 5 mins about what I want done and it became clear that she was very distracted. I asked her how long the service was going to take and she said til 3pm (note that the initial service estimate was 1.5hrs) so I needed to re-arrange everything to fit the advised new time. She went away to get a quote (about 450-700 for hair cut and color) and informed me about it then I asked about the service time again and she bumped it up to saying she can work on me after another 15 mins. I said can she just get me a haircut and she said she can but she can start after 30mins. She says she double booked, it was a chaotic day, she has an interview and to top it off, she won't be there to finish the service anyway as she will be out in an hour. She insisted on rebooking me for another day saying it was a crazy day. I asked for another stylist and there was none. I canceled my appointment with the clear lack of respect for time. This salon should understand that clients take time out of their day to get things done and not be passed around and pushed to move to another day just because they didn't plan things well. This was the worst salon experience ever. Didn't get anything done and still spent close to an hour just waiting. Save your bucks and go to another salon that respects your time or at least professional enough to let you know they can't accommodate you because of the triple bookings they made at that time.
I recently switched salons to Urban Betty Salon Soco, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! The process from start to finish was a dream. They utilize a Meet Your Stylist quiz, which reassured me I was being paired with someone who fit my criteria. I easily booked my appointment online and emailed the salon with a few questions. They promptly called me the next day to address my concerns, and I felt confident going into my consultation. Erin Mutschler is everything you could want in a stylist: professional, knowledgable, skilled, patient, and empathetic. She took time to understand what I wanted out of my cut, color, and style and delivered! She ensured I was happy with the cut (touching it up for me free of charge on my color visit), worked with me extensively on picking a color that enhanced my natural hair color/features and fit my maintenance routine, got to a price point I felt comfortable with, and gave me advice on hair products and care (who knew I'd been shampooing my hair wrong!). On top of all that, she is a great conversationalist who made me, an anxious person, feel at ease. The fact that Urban Betty is a local, eco-friendly, woman-owned salon is icing on the cake. The SoCo location is small, chic, pristine, and has a welcoming vibe. Every person I interacted with there was courteous, helpful, and friendly. I am set on this being my salon from here on out, and I would highly recommend Urban Betty Salon Soco to anyone looking for a positive, high-quality salon experience!
April 2021: I haven’t truly cut my hair for over a decade, and well, post covid-shelter-in-place-for-over-a-year I was ready for change! Jess was the talent that walked me through it all and brought me out the other end looking like a million bucks! She saw who I am on the inside and made my outside match :) You can’t go wrong trusting in her goodness and skill. She’s definitely my hair-dealer for life! Update November 2021: First, let me just say that my first haircut and balayage/toner grew out so beautifully and naturally that I didn’t really ‘need’ a haircut… I just found myself bewildered at how fast my hair grew and longing for my shorter lighter locks. So I came back in for a touch up on my sun-kiss and a refresh on my cut… BUT, because of my super amazing first experience in Jess’s (Jess Mindrup; @jessatxhair) very talented and capable hands, I felt safe taking a risk and going even shorter. I am thrilled that I did; I totally love the result; and I’m delighted that I found a stylist that I trust who emboldens me to indulge in my long held hairstyle fantasies that I never felt safe enough to try before! Thank you, Jess! See you in 6mos :)
I went here a couple months ago and won’t go back. If you’re blonde don’t go here. It’s not worth it. I worked in a hair salon and know good service and well done hair. They didn’t tell me pricing when they set me up with Katie but usually that’s not an issue for me and I needed a last min apt. Katie was free the day before which makes sense because she charges $500 (and that doesn’t include a tip) to have her assistant do half the work and her conflated ego showed the moment I sat down. I have two small kids and got a sitter to get my hair done. I wanted partial highlights and I was so excited. I sat in the chair for not even a minute and she said she is probably not in my “beauty budget”. It was incredibly condescending and she irritated me because of the way she went about telling me how great she is and then sent me away. I went with her assistant who she said I could come back two days later for. I almost didn’t even come back but it’s not the assistants fault she is working under someone so rude. The assistant did ok but still the whole place is overpriced. Katie is now looking for a new assistant. Shocking.
Samantha asked open ended questions before getting started to see what my hair goals were, if I was working towards a certain style/color, what length I wanted, what colors I was interested in, my budget, etc. In just a few minutes, Samantha had thought up a custom plan just for me, so that way when I get married in February my hair will be primed and ready without a good chunk of money spent up front and hours at the salon. Samantha also prioritized my hair health and budget, which long term will have me coming back to the salon every 6 weeks or so for touch ups! So, basically they’re a wiz at: fixing my awful blue ends in less than 3 hours, customizing the experience for me and my needs, and securing repeat business and client loyalty. All in a pretty short visit! Absolutely will be back, as I now have two stylists at UB SOCO (Katie and Samantha!) that I trust with taking care of me! Being able to be myself, and to feel safe and respected is a plus as well, especially for someone who is part of the LGBT+ community. Can’t say enough good things! Thank you again!
I came in for a color and cut as a first timer looking for a refresh at 2 weeks postpartum. Morgan made me look and feel like a better version of myself. Thankful I found this place. Updated review: I came in to get another color treatment to refresh the amazing job Morgan did. Morgan was not available so i agreed to another stylist who was going to cost a higher rate. When agreeing to this over the phone, they couldn't not give me a dollar amount to the approximate cost for the more expensive stylist. I planned my trip to the salon (still postpartum) packed milk and brought the 3 month old baby. Talked with the stylist Katie for a minute and she came back with a cost. $375 FOR A SIMPLE DARK BROWN COLOR TREATMENT. What a joke. Do doctors even make this much an hour ? I was baffled and left the salon. I understand some stylists have more experience but it would have been nice to get a heads up on the cost before shlepping my infant to the soco location. I'd love to come back here for Morgan but after that awkward whole thing not sure if I will .
TLDR: Too expensive, hit in the head while getting blow dried This was my first time at Urban Betty and I probably won't be going back. It was insanely expensive for a trim and glaze (I had thought after looking at their website pricing it would be between $200-$250, it was $350. They do say on the website it could go up, I just think perhaps they should be more transparent with cost before you're in the chair. They did tell me the cost before they started, but at that point I had a cape on and needed to have my hair done today). Also the stylist I booked with spent maybe 15 minutes working on me, the rest of the time it was done by her assistant, including applying my color, and while blow drying my hair she hit me in the head three times. Overall my experience wasn't awful by any means, but I don't think what you get matches the cost, and I would not go back. Editing after their response to add- if I am being charged a lot because of the stylist I chose, then she should have been the one working on my hair the entire time.
I want to say big THANK YOU to Katie West and Erin for making my hair look amazing! Finding new hairdresser can be very stressful and scary for some folks and I’m definitely one of those people I am originally from Europe and during pre-pandemic times I tried to visit my hairdresser at least ones a year (psst... my family thinks their the ones I’m visiting ) I was so lucky to find Katie West here in Austin! And she is truly outstanding and has so many good qualities: professional, accurate to details, very stylish, and can understand you pretty much without any words. It’s worth noticing that during the session Katie can help you find the right home care for your hair (no need to waist time and money figuring this out on your own). I highly recommend Katie West and also want to thank Urban Betty for the great experience and atmosphere! For those who are considering going - do it! The atmosphere is great over there and people are amazing. COVID related update: it is very clean and feels really safe there as well.
Since moving to Austin 8 yrs ago, I have not found a hair stylist that really "got" my hair. They would act like they were listening to me and then do their own thing with my hair and I was never very happy with what was done + it was never very close to what I was asking for...so I've learned to not get my hopes up when wanting to do something new with my hair. Yesterday that changed when I went to Urban Betty and met Samantha. She was very attentive about what I was looking for and wanting to have done with my hair and style. I had a complete makeover with my hair (which is not an easy task) and she NAILED IT! I have very thin, fine hair and it has had quite a bit of processing done on it..she took such good care of my hair while processing it and she did such an amazing job with the highlighting and balayage. I am also extremely impressed with the haircut. Its the exact length and layering that I wanted. Im honestly so happy I've found such a good hairstylist. If you're like me, Ya'll need to check this place out!!
Katie West at Urban Betty is amazing! I don't even know where to start. I've been seeing her for years. I usually do a dark all over color but recently Katie convinced me to go lighter and do balayage because well, she is the balayage queen after all and at this point I trust her with whatever she wants to do. Something I wouldn’t trust just any hair stylist with!! The attention to detail she has, the talent, the blends of colors is just amazing and so professional. I normally do my hair with her every few months and always end up feeling like a model walking out of there. It’s like she presses the refresh button on my hair and wakes it up! I’ve literally never left unhappy. I get so many compliments on my hair and it’s all because of Katie. The quality of products they use at Urban Betty is phenomenal too and has improved my damaged hair tremendously. I always always leave with new products! I highly recommend Katie West!!!
Kaity was scheduled to highlight a dark shade of dye I put on my hair to let my lighter roots grow out. After much research she determined since I had bleached my hair before putting the dark dye on, color extraction would just cause breakage and she did not recommend we proceed with trying to lighten my hair. She could have taken my money, she could have done what I wanted anyway but instead Kaity took time to research and made a very well informed decision about putting more chemicals on my hair. I have been getting my hair cut by Tara at the 38th street location and this was my first experience with Kaity. Should the need ever arise again, I will most definitely go back to her and would recommend her to anyone in a heartbeat. She is very knowledgeable and informative and clearly has the experience one seeks in a colorist.
I’ve been coming to Urban Betty SOCO for almost a year and would highly encourage anyone on the fence to go here. After moving to Austin and being a little lost trying to find a new stylist, I took UB’s online quiz and was matched with Monica. I have super curly, thick hair and wanted to go from a medium-brown (box dye —thanks quarantine) to a fiery copper. To top it off, my hair had previously been platinum blonde. Let’s just say, she had her work cut out for her. From that day on, Monica has consistently knocked my color and cut out of the park. I love every result and get tons of compliments weekly. The salon is extremely clean and diligent about COVID protocols. Every stylist is so kind and professional. It’s a pleasure to spend time there and I look forward to every appointment weeks in advance. Thank UB team <3
I came in for a major chop and some first-time highlights. Erin was awesome––easy to talk to, thoroughly explained the process when I asked, answered all my questions without making me feel silly for asking, and most of all––she did an amazing job on my hair! I left feeling like a new, more glamorous person. :) I'm always nervous to cut my hair because it is so thick and unruly and needs some weight to hold it down, but the cut she gave me (9 inches off!) is stylish, air dries great, frames my face perfectly and yet can still be pulled back into a ponytail when needed. The balayage highlights she did on me are perfect, too––I appreciate her emphasis on going slowly so as not to damage my hair. My hair feels bouncy, shiny and soft. She is a true professional and I will be back!!
My stylist was very nice and gave a killer head massage, but unfortunately did the exact opposite of what was requested for my haircut. I asked for no layers, just movement with an angled cut around my face and ended up with layers just around my face. I have a big swath of bangs now that just don't stay pulled back and it's just an odd cut with layers in the front, but not the back. I went with one of the less expensive stylists because aye caramba is hair getting expensive in Austin, but now I regret it. Pretty bummed, but this was my first time there, so I wouldn't tell anyone not to go. If it's going to cost me over $100 for a trim here though, I'll just go back to the gal I've been going to for the past five years who now charges the same.
I saw Jess at Urban Betty's South Congress location and had a great experience. I had an early appointment (7:45 a.m.) and when I arrived, Jess was ready for me and welcoming. I completed Jess' pre-appointment consultation so we were already aligned on my color wants, but she gave me the time to chat through the haircut piece. After about 3 hours sitting in the chair (cut + color), I was very pleased with my experience and result! In my opinion, I feel as though the price point was comparable to other Austin salons ($300ish for cut + color), and Jess' talent and presence was worth it! If you're looking for a "worn-in blonde look," I can't recommend Jess enough (I'm sure she does great at other things too, just speaking from experience) ;)
My stylist is Jess Mindrup and I am so so happy that I was scheduled with her for my first appointment at Urban Betty - I've never looked back. The salon itself is always tidy and staff / stylists are friendly and accommodating right away. Jess specifically took the time to talk to me about my hair goals (I was working to repair a VERY bad color treatment from a different stylist at the time) and ensure that I had the right expectations for timeline and results. Jess is really easy-going and can easily provide suggestions and advice when I am not quite sure what I am looking for. I am always excited to return to Urban Betty for my appointments :) This is the salon I recommend to my personal friends.
YES YES YES!!!! ❤️Monica❤️is amazing, she took what I showed her I wanted and did an amazing job. She is very professional and super sweet. I’m so happy with my hair, I will definitely be calling her to color my hair a week before the wedding. Urban Betty went above and beyond to make me happy about my hair and boy did they deliver, my soon to be husband was very happy. Monica is definitely worth it, she is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so thankful for the people at Urban Betty making sure what I paid for was worth it and again this place is hands down the best!!!!! I will post pictures soon! She doesn’t know it yet but she is stuck with me forever. Lol
I had an incredible experience with Taylor! From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in good hands. Taylor is a hair coloring wizard. She took the time to understand what I wanted and offered expert advice. Throughout the process, her precision and attention to detail were impressive. She chose a color that suited me perfectly, and I received numerous compliments afterward. Beyond her skills, Taylor is friendly and personable, making the whole appointment fly-by and quite enjoyable. The salon is clean and stylish, and the entire staff is professional. I highly recommend Taylor for an exceptional hair coloring experience. Thanks to her, I feel and look fabulous!
Erin is a blonding goddess! I had been going to a different salon in SW Austin (that was literally twice the price), but I wanted to try something new, and I'm so glad I did! Erin revamped my highlights to look better than ever, gave me a deep condition and blow-out, and even took the time to style with a curl (which I love!). Also, the salon itself is adorable, I want to live there. (Kudos to the design and lighting team!) Sitting in the processing area with a glass of wine and one of their fabulous table books is like heaven, if heaven smelled like delicious salon shampoo. I will definitely be coming back every 6-8 weeks for as long as they will have me! :D
I’ve been coming to this location for a little over a year now and don’t think I’ll never go to another hair salon in Austin. The salon is clean, very chic, and reception as well as all of the stylists are always incredibly friendly. The stylist I see is Monica S. and I’m convinced there is nothing she can’t do. From giving me the most natural looking balayage I’ve ever had (even on my black hair) to the cutest short chop, I’ve loved it all. She’s professional, asks for input but also offers suggestions if you aren’t sure what you want to do, and is always on time. She’s simply the best. I would not hesitate recommending the salon or Monica to any one.
I’ve been to both locations. The first time was on 38th and I had to go back in because they didn’t at all do anything I asked for. They did fix it for free. The second time I went it was S Congress, she was really difficult to talk with. I asked her for long layers and she said no because it wouldn’t look good and gave me one layer. I asked for specific style bangs and she gave me straight across, and I had to ask her to trim the length twice. These are probably good salons for girls* who want basic cuts, but I wouldn’t recommend them for any person who has high expectations or “different” ones for that matter.
Erin Dewitt should be your go to girl for all of your hair style needs. She is absolutely flawless when it comes to color correction, balayage, highlights, low lights and pretty much anything to do with color. I went to a hair salon in Houston that nearly fried all of my hair off, and just when I thought it was beyond repair. Erin saved my hair, I went from wearing a hat every day to being blow away by the work she did! Love love love her, don’t go anywhere else. Go see Erin at Urban Betty south congress. She’s a absolute doll, any salon would be lucky to have an Erin.
Used this salon for the first time yesterday (12/20/20) and I couldn't be happier with the results! Bre, my stylist, was extremely kind, and made my experience a great one. I'm usually not one to chit chat during haircuts, but Bre and the vibe of the entire salon made me feel very comfortable the entire time. And during these trying times I couldn't be happier with how they adhere to the Covid safety guidelines. All I can say is thank you to Bre and Urban Betty Salon for helping me shed my damaged hair, and ring in the new year with a haircut I am living for!
This is the worst haircut I’ve ever had. The stylist used thinning sheers on my hair, making it frizzy and unevenly cut. My hair is fine and textured, and I can’t believe she cut it wet. There is a huge section of hair that isn’t graduated into the lower layer, which remains essentially a flap on the left side of my head. Went and got it “fixed”, which consisted of cutting a few locks and the flap was left unblended into the lower layer. I don’t want to give too much identifying info, but I felt greatly invalidated when I brought up the issue to the stylist.
They had new girl answer phone who booked me for wrong appointment (length of time) and so I was unable to get my hair done before I went out of town. For the price they charge to do your hair and I was also a first-time customer who waited a week and a half for an appointment you would think that they would have done something to make it right and keep my business but I guess since it usually takes about a month to get an appointment then they are busy enough they don't need my money. So glad I found someone much better and $100 cheaper. Love my hair NOW
This team is so awesome! I had several haircuts here over the past few years and each stylist has been amazing. Sam went over and above my last visit, helping me fix my 16 month old daughter’s hair after a really bad haircut at a children’s salon. She evened out her bangs, even though they typically do not do children’s hair, and cut my hair without charging me extra. She was so kind and I will continue to go back to her for future cuts! Also loved how she took the time to really consult with me on my new cut, and showed me how to style the layers.
I had an appointment for a haircut yesterday with Taylor, at my first visit to the SoCo location. She was able to take my almost 6 month grown out mohawk and exceed every expectation I had on what was even possible with the awkward regrowth stage it was in and I couldn't be happier with it. It'd been several years since I'd been to the other UB location, but my prior experience gave me confidence in choosing a new to me stylist at the location now closer to me. And Taylor really was awesome, I look forward to seeing her again in the future!
Urban Betty was offering FREE haircuts for anyone who would donate 12 inches of natural hair to Wigs For Kids. My five year old daughter wanted to give her hair to a little girl who has cancer. It was her first time at a salon, and she LOVED it! The atmosphere was very welcoming and relaxing. Bre was very professional and made my daughter feel comfortable the whole time. She felt like a princess. She said she wants to grow her hair again and give it to another little girl! Thank you Urban Betty for this unique experience for my daughter ❤
I had such a lovely experience here. Katie completely transformed my hair with a blonde balayage and hair cut and I absolutely love it. She’s a phenomenal hair dresser and I’ve never been so thrilled with my hair! But most importantly, I found Katie to be such a sweet and kind person who made eye contact when she spoke and really listened and cared about what I had to say. I really enjoyed my time with her and felt that the whole experience was well worth the money. Thank you Katie! And Urban Betty SoCo! I look forward to returning!
My hair had been through the ringer this year with 2 different stylists (not at Urban Betty) making some mistakes with my hair (overlapping old blonde and creating a band through my hair, and a cut that was way too over texturized for my fine hair). I've come here twice now to see Jess and she was AMAZING. She has fixed both my blonde and my cut to get me exactly what I wanted. Shes clearly dedicated to her profession and restored my faith in allowing someone to blonde my hair again. Cant recommend her enough! Definitely book with her!
So I went in about 2 days ago and I told the lady doing my hair ( Madison) I specifically asked for full highlights and got a partial, I also said no ash and it came out ashy, I paid over $200 when I texted Madison to asked what I could do to fix and and she was very rude, I just wanted my hair fix and done the way I asked I paid for it and this was her exact response “ I personally don’t think you are a right fit for UB salon.” I just want my hair to look good we had a plan and the this was not it. I won’t be going back.
Morgan is phenomenal!!! Coming in I sort offff knew what I wanted. I showed Morgan some pictures and she made some great suggestions. I have an allergy to an ingredient usually found in hair/styling products and she checked every single ingredient list before putting the products on my hair. She was conservative with how much she was taking off, always checking to see if I liked the length, style, etc. Probably the best hair cutting experience I've had. I HIGHLY recommend her. So good, I'm obsessed with my hair.
Katie is wonderful! She listened and gave me the exact cut I wanted and was fun to talk to. The salon has implemented excellent covid-safety guidelines (masks, temp checks, barriers between stations, sanitizing between clients) and I really appreciate that. I cant remember Katie’s assistant’s name (so sorry!) but she was awesome too, and recommended a wonderful volumizing hair treatment. Honestly, one of the best cuts and one of the best salon experiences I’ve ever had. Already booked my next appointment!
I wanted to donate my hair so I search on google and the first to pop up was Urban Betty. I call to ask for further explanation and Samantha the receptionist explained the process and I was confident that I wanted to come here. I absolutely loved the service. Monica my stylist is amazing she took care of my hair and gave me an amazing haircut afterwards!! Urban Betty is in a great location and the aesthetic omg I love it !! I felt very safe on my visit they took all the necessary precautions for COVID-19
I've been traveling 300+ miles each way to get my hair done for many years because I wasn't able to find a salon or stylist that I liked in Austin. I went to Urban Betty to get a trim and I was so impressed at the beautiful salon and wonderful service by Sarah and everyone else! Sarah did an amazing job on my hair and provided some wonderful recommendations on products to maximize my hair health. I'm excited to return to Urban Betty to see Sarah and even plan to send my mom her way :) Thanks!
This was my first time into an Urban Betty salon as per the suggestion of a friend (I’m new to Austin) and I can confidently say this will be my go-to salon!!! My stylist was Jessica, she was super nice and knowledgeable. I was even offered a consult about hair color while I was in for a haircut. The haircut looks AMAZING (most unique looking haircut I’ve gotten, in the best way possible.) they use products with super super clean ingredients and overall I’m just extremely impressed!!
I was looking for a good spot for my 17 year old who has lots of fine curly hair. The website was very easy to book from however I called in to see who might be best for her. We were placed with Suni and it was pefect the booking person nailed it. Suni is super easy to talk to, very skilled and gave my daughter exactly what she wanted. I rebooked for my daughter and will be booking my future appointments here as well. All around great environment on top of a stellar job. Loved it!!
Jess has been handling my haircuts for the last few months and I'm lucky to have found her! A year ago I got a terrible haircut from a hairstyling student, and I desperately needed a professional correction. I found a last minute cancellation at Urban Betty and ended up in her chair, where she handled my haircut trauma with total grace and humor. Even better, she's nailed exactly what I've wanted out of my haircuts ever since. Lovely salon, really friendly staff. Thank you, Jess!
Do yourself (& your hair) a massive favor and book an appointment here. Jessica is sweet, funny, honest, and amazingly talented. I always love my cut and receive several compliments (admittedly, I don’t style my hair so all credit is Jessica’s!) The receptionists are attentive and super transparent about cost/scheduling. Super cute and fun atmosphere. Yes, the parking sucks, welcome to Austin. Not their fault & nothing that arriving a few minutes early can’t fix! 10/10 recommend!
Samantha was OUTSTANDING and did such a great job matching the grey roots in my hair so I can start growing it out and updating my base color. It was quite a process, but well worth the time. It looks amazing, and I couldn't be happier. Samantha is excellent at what she does, I will definitely be back and recommend her and Urban Betty to anyone who is looking for a great professional place to go to get their hair colored, cut or styled (and more). - Debbie Harmon
I have been with Taylor since she was in beauty school and followed her to Urban Betty Salon. Her skill and time management has vastly improved over the last five years. I know when I sit down in her seat, I am in good hands, I let her take the reins for the color and cut. I have never once walked out upset but always impressed and in love with my new color. She is a wizard for blondes. **Do not take the lack of a smile for a lack of love, this girl is amazing.
I called a few time and when I finally got ahold of someone, I explained I had a personal emergency at home and would be “2 minutes late” to my appt past their late protocol. I had a 9am appt and Taylor didn’t have another appt until 1pm but they still forced me to cancel. I do not recommend a salon with a lack of empathy and understanding for situations out of anyone’s control…especially when it was all over 2 minutes of time. I’ll take my $300 somewhere else.
It is always super nerve-wracking to try and find a new hairstylist that not only you match well with personality wise, but can also give you an end result that feels like they read your mind and even exceeded expectations. My first appointment was with Erin this week. Her and her two associates, Morgan and Allie, provided me with an incredible experience throughout my whole visit and I am in love with my hair. Next appointment was immediately scheduled. :)
Such an amazing experience from before booking to well after leaving the salon. The people are really incredible and the salon itself is very clean and eco-conscious. Suni is a delight and absolute expert. I'm so glad to be working with them. I knew exactly how much I would be spending on my services before we moved forward so there were no surprises. Suni books up super fast if that tells you anything. Go here for sure, you won't regret it! I love my hair!
I just went to Urban Betty for the first time this past week. I was with Teejay. I went in for a total hair makeover with little in mind for what I was wanting. Teejay helped me form an idea of what I wanted and she transformed my hair in to a much needed change! I love what she did and plan to go back to keep up with the maintenance. I would definitely recommend this place, especially Teejay. Super friendly and killer at all things hair. Double thumbs up!
Betty was a very sweet person. Unfortunately, she was unable to deliver on my blonde hair. When I went back a second time to fix the problem she charged me another $180 to fix the issue only 2 weeks after charging me over $350. I still gave her another chance and went back again even though It had reservations. At this point I have paid over $1,000 on my hair, which is still far from good! Because she seems like a very nice person, I pray for her best!
I don’t normally leave reviews but I need to express how amazing Erin at Urban Betty Soco is! I get anxious when going to the hair salon (I’m weird), but Erin made me feel so comfortable and was able to give me a haircut that I love!! She made sure I was happy through the whole process because I didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my hair when I arrived. She was also very personable and easy to talk to! Thank you, Erin, for being so incredible!
Had been going to Urban Betty North for a long time. Everything was ok, nothing amazing! I would say that the cost is CRAZY expensive though. Overall my hair was fine they did a lot of work, but the Two junior stylists did a lot if not most of the work (guess they have to put in their time ) or the master stylist was very busy. it was an ok experience.... probably wont go back just because of the cost. but overall a nice studio just bring your wallet.
I love coming here. They always doing an incredible job and I feel like a 10 when I leave. I also love how experienced and professional the staff are, I trust them with their perspectives and love that I know it’ll be great no matter what. They’re extremely talented overall, if you’re looking for a stylist to make your hair dreams come true, look no further. Katie West is the magician that makes the magic happen for me but everyone there is A+.
Love this Salon - I had been going to the same person to do my hair for about 20 years before I moved to Austin a few years ago and was anxious to try someone new. I have been going here for about a year now and absolutely love it the salon is cute and very clean, they are only using every other station currently because of the pandemic. Monica always knows exactly what I want and helps me achieve my hair goals I cannot recommend her enough!
I got my hair done by Abbey and it was the best experience ever! I had a few highlights added to make my hair look more dimensional, along with a haircut to tidy up my layers and take about an inch off of the dead ends. She listened to me throughout the consultation and made sure that she understood what I wanted and what would look good for me. Great time, highly Recommend! (Sorry for the mom pics I was still in my car when I took these)
Jess did a great job on my hair. She was polite, friendly, understanding and skilful. Ever since I moved to Austin I was very skeptical to get a haircut done as my hair plays an important role on my looks, I'm glad I found the right person. I'm not sure about the pricing. It costed me 82$ for a mid length haircut. I parked right outside Urban Betty but a garage for guest parking is available towards the left once you enter the street.
My experience here today was AMAZING! I had a wonderful woman shampoo my hair she was awesome! Katie did magic on my hair it is extremely soft and layered beautifully! She was patient, charming and made sure I was 100% content with my cut. I will never go anywhere else! Thank you to Katie and all of the ladies at Urban Betty for working hard through these times and for keeping the salon comfortable and clean you are appreciated! ❤️
Erin K did such an amazing job with bringing my hair back to life and helping me feel like myself again!! She fixed my quarantine hair DIY lol!! I went in with an idea and she asked questions making sure she 100% understood what I had in mind. She chopped off minimal hair as she knew I was trying to grow my hair out - it even somehow looks longer than before I came in (I don’t know how she did it lol!). I can’t wait to come back!!
My hair stylist was Erin, she did an amazing job! I am pleased with her work. I went in for a color correction due to my previous dye was done wrong (NOT DONE HERE THOUGH) I called on a Thursday and she was available for me 1st thing Friday morning which totally worked for my schedule. Very nice and sweet and made me feel comfortable. I 100% recommend this place, def my place to go to from now on!! Thank you so much Erin! ♥️
I absolutely LOVE Jessica Téllez. She’s become family to us now and I know I am always in the best hands. Her attention to detail, thoughtfulness and genuine care is unparalleled. Our level of trust needs no words, it is spoken in a language of love. I am grateful for her honesty, her skills and her knowledge of colour theory, and hair dexterity. Thank you Jessica, I will forever be grateful to you and that you are in our lives.
Erin is absolutely amazing! I wanted a complete change from my current style (or lack thereof) and she did not disappoint! The first time I saw her I had been thinking about a major change but wasn't quite ready. She did a great job highlighting, conditioning and styling my hair. This time I asked for a major overhaul and she was excited about the challenge. My hair looks so good! Thank you Erin! Would definitely recommend!
I've been searching for a good men's hair stylist for some time now. With longer hair, I've had a lot of so-so cuts from the barber type places. I went to Urban Betty and was introduced to Sam who was nothing short of amazing. She was consultative, knowledgeable, knew exactly what I was looking for and more importantly what I didn't want and she executed perfectly. Already made my appointment to go back in 8 weeks!
Every time I go to Urban Betty, I am always impressed. I see Taylor Seifert when I go and she has transformed my hair. She found my perfect blonde shade when I didn’t know what I wanted and convinced me to cut my hair short. I’ve never looked back. Everyone is very professional and nice. Through covid, they kept up all their precautions and felt very safe being there. I seriously can’t recommend this salon more.
I booked an appointment online for 8am the next day. I moved things around on my calendar to do this. When I arrived at the salon, they informed me that my high/low lights and trim would be $514.00! Over $300 dollars than I was quoted online. The stylist kept telling me she was a "Master Stylist" so she was more expensive. I left, disappointed and wasted my time. Really, $514 for shoulder length, very thin hair?
My hairstylist had a pretty complicated job to do. My hair was bleached blonde, very dry and easily broke. I wanted to be back to my natural color(brown) with highlights. She found a way to darken my hair and keep some of my highlights without having to bleach all over again. She cut off all the dry ends and added layers. My hair went from dry curly hair with curls weighed down to shiny, bouncy , healthy hair.
I've been coming here for about 2.5 years now with two different stylists for a bleached pixie, now working on growing it out and changing the color significantly. Currently I go to Taylor. I love Urban Betty! Super professional, always has been very clean, COVID protocols have me feeling very safe. I can't recommend this salon enough! Taylor is a color master and I'm so happy to have her as my stylist ☺️
Not only is this place clean and beautiful, but it's also filled with talented and friendly women who make magic. Love going to Urban Betty for hair coloring! They really understand what I want and execute it plus take good care of me and my hair. They also go above and beyond recommending great hair products, such as milk (hair serum that I apply after showers). Give them a try! They are so worth it!
My stylist was Jessica T. She was so knowledgeable and informative. She sat with me before getting started and wanted to know what my expectations were and was completely honest with me and what I should and should not expect and I loved it. I haven’t cut my hair in two years and I felt like a new person after all was said and done. I can’t thank Jessica enough and can’t wait to go back in August.
A hairstylist in another city *brutalized* my hair. I was traumatized and thought there's no way it could be salvageable and would lose about 3 years of diligent hair care. Abbey came to my rescue; she is so talented! I went from being extremely insecure about stepping outside of my house to getting my confidence back. I didn't think that was possible, but Abbey made it happen! Thank you Abbey!!
I really enjoyed my second experience here. My first time here, the stylist was a little pushy on buying products from them, which turns me off, but the stylist this time was not pushy and I really appreciated that. A $60 haircut is pretty expensive in my eyes and you have to get the cut and blowout. I do wish there was an option for just a haircut. Overall I’m happy with my haircut.
Urban Betty is sincerely one of the best salons I have ever been to. Professional, clean and up to date. I have been to both locations and have never been disappointed. Every staff member is welcoming and helpful. I love their system for training up and coming stylist. Hanna, my stylist, is amazing! She has a talent for color that is out of this world! I always get compliments.
Only have positive things to say about Urban Betty. Went there for the first time in October, and they made it so easy to donate my hair, were taking precautions for customers' & employees' safety during this pandemic; plus Andrea made me feel so comfortable, listened to my preferences and gave me a haircut I love. God willing, I'll be back! Huge thanks to UB & esp Andrea.
I love Urban Betty Soco! Jess is my hairstylist and she is incredible. I’m trying to get back to my natural color and she knows how to match it perfectly. Since I started going here, my hair has become so healthy and it’s growing much faster. It’s silky and smooth. Jess helps recommend products for me to use and shows me how to style my hair. I’m so happy I found this gem!
Jess is AMAZING! I recently moved to Austin and was nervous finding someone to chop my medium length hair to a fun pixie mullet especially since my hairstylist for the last 10 years has been my cousin. Jess killed it!! I wanted a pixie mullet and had some photos as inspo and Im obessed!!! Not only is she super talented but she’s super nice and easy to talk to.
Trying to find somewhere who is affordable but you can trust with your hair is so hard. Teejay did an amazing job, we ended up staying later & I didn't feel rushed she still did everything needed! Not only did she do my hair great, she's such a sweet person. I love her & will be going back often due to her. Thank you so much I had an amazing experience
Monica forever!! The salon itself has a great feel to it as well, super cute and great lighting. The cost of service is extremely reasonable considering the skill level of the stylists and the service you receive there. Monica always manages to give me the perfect haircut even though I don't verbalize what I want very well. Never going anywhere else!
I had a great experience at Urban Betty and highly recommend my stylist Samantha. It had been quite some time since I had anything done to my hair and I was ready for a cut. Samantha listened to what I wanted and walked me through everything she was doing. I was unsure of how short I was going to go but I went for it and loved the end result!
urban betty is amazing! i’m so picky with my hair and my stylist, aubrey osswald, worked with me to find a style that worked perfectly for me! she was so knowledgeable and friendly which put my mind at ease! i would definitely recommend her for any hair service- from my experience she was so professional and talented! thanks, aubrey! …
I got my hair colored for the first time ever and I am so glad I chose Katie West at Urban Betty! Man was it an EXPERIENCE. The staff is so warm and friendly and the salon itself is GORGEOUS. I felt like such a diva when it was all done. Katie was fantastic and knew exactly what I wanted! Couldn’t be more happy with the end results!
I've been going to Urban Betty for years because of the value, quality, and positive experience I've always had there. And their commitment to protecting their staff and customers during the pandemic has made me value them so much more! I love going here and am always happy with the result (and Monica Savignani is truly the best!).
Horrible. I was in a bind on time and excited to get my hair done. Just to be told that it was only a consultation, and couldn't actually dye or cut my hair for another 2 days. The parking was confusing. The salon was cluttered and everyone seemed to be in chaos. Scheduled with a different salon immediately and so happy I did.
I absolutely love this salon!!! My hairdresser/stylist is Teejay and she is AMAZING!!! So sweet, does a great job, and is all about giving you the look you want. She has done my hair a few times since I’ve moved to Austin and I don’t plan on going to anyone else:) Salon is also super cute and was shown on the show Queer Eye!
I was recommended Jess at Urban Betty by a friend, and I loved my experience with her! She was super kind and knowledgeable about the products she used on my hair. I ended up buying this sea salt spray she used & it smells so GOOD and gives my hair great texture. Would totally recommend this cute salon & kind hairstylist!
I've been highlighting my hair for years and I don't recall being quite this pleased with the results. Danielle did amazing work on my color as well as my haircut. She truly listened to what I wanted and worked with care and precision to deliver. She's also super sweet and personable. Doesn't really get any better!
I got a trim and a blowout and it went okay. The blowout was very flat at first but I asked for a more voluminous look and that was definitely achieved. The trim was just okay. I washed my hair and noticed a few pieces that were much longer than the rest in a way that didn't work with the layers I had asked for.
I have been going to Urban Betty Salon since I relocated to Austin from Philadelphia and I can't say enough great things about the level of service that has been provided by my stylist, Taylor. Taylor's attention to detail and her affinity for hair has provided a tremendous experience during every appointment.
I always go to Jess Mindrup and she kills it every time. The entire salon is clean and professional, but I love Jess because she puts so much care and passion into her work. Would highly recommend her styling, color, & cut services (as that is what I've had done, I'm sure her other services are just as fab!).
I went to my scheduled appointment with Jessica. We decided that actually a bang trim would be enough until my next appointment. So she trimmed them and charged me $0! I appreciated that Jessica listened to me and what I wanted instead of telling me I needed more of a trim and then charging me for a haircut.
Erin, is that hair stylist where you say "where have you been all my life" as I am looking and feeling just fabulous! What a transformation, I couldn't be happier! Erin is client experience focused discussing client goals before service begins. Highly, highly recommend Erin and anyone at Urban Betty.
First time there! Stylist was great - she sat down with me and made sense of all my whims and dreams and hair color moods ! She, and all the staff, made my comfort a priority. The salon was clean with a good vibe, and I saw great hair happening in every chair. Already booked my next appointment!
I visited Urban Betty for the first time and got a fantastic haircut from Jess. She’s an excellent communicator who listened closely and educated me on what would be possible with my hair. Everyone in the salon was really welcoming, and I had such a great experience. Just look at this cute cut!
Jessica at Urban Betty is amazing! She made me feel welcome and worked with me to get my hair just the way I wanted it. I've already booked with her for my next cut and color. Also, the front desk rep, Hunter, is awesome and shows clients exceptional customer care. Thank you, Urban Betty team!
I went here for a balayage appointment with Erin and it was amazing! Erin and her assistant Haley were both so nice and did an incredible job. Everyone else in the salon had great energy and were all so nice. Such a great experience here, I couldn’t be happier with the way my hair turned out!
My hair appointment at Urban Betty Soco was great! My stylist was knowledgeable, and recommended future treatments to keep my hair in great condition. The salon is taking great measures during the pandemic to provide a safe environment for its employees and guests. I will definitely be back!
Jess Mindrup is the BEST for all things blonde! She has helped my hair to become the healthiest it’s been. I am very picky about my blonde color & Jess always gets it perfect! She is kind, brilliant, and hilarious. I’m obsessed with how comfortable she makes me feel when I get my hair done!!
I do like my haircut. My only complaint was that my stylist was running 30 minutes late and while I sat and waited no one offered me any water or anything. And my stylist was coloring someone’s hair so my hair cut felt pretty rushed. But, like I said, no complaints about the cut!
I was a last-minute walk-in, and lucky me they had time to accommodate. I got served a delicious glass of white wine, and only had to wait about 10 minutes. My stylist was Morgan, and she did a very quick and lovely job trimming up my side shave. I will definitely be coming back
TeeJay did an amazing job deciphering the exact cut I needed for my lifestyle. It turned out so much better than I ever could have expected! She also provided perfect product recommendations that have literally changed my routine for the better. Thanks, TeeJay and Urban Betty!
Kayleen did an amazing job on my color and cut! I LOVE IT! It’s a shame how filthy the salon is though. It could have been a better experience if I hadn’t left feeling like I needed to shower! Everything is covered with years of dust and cobwebs. The bathroom was disgusting.
first salon visit since beginning of shutdown and was so worth the wait! Monica took my pandemic mess and left me feeling whole again. My husband has not stopped complimenting my hair since I got home yesterday! great stylist and really welcoming salon - thank you!!!!
Urban Betty at Soco is consistent with color, cut, and styling. I’ve been a regular for over a year now and it’s their genuineness that keeps me coming back. Before leaving I always go ahead and schedule out a minimum of two appointments with Suni. She’s such a pro!
