Can’t recommend this location enough! After some very poor experiences at other DC locations, walking into this post office is like a breath of fresh air. Mayra and two other ladies (who’s names I unfortunately did not catch) are so personable and kind. Their positivity made for a unexpectedly enjoyable visit. TLDR: Great attitudes, very knowledgeable, pleasant atmosphere, quick service, fantastic attention to detail. Interacting with the right (or wrong) person in any situation can completely make or break your experience. A person can either unlock all of the right doors for you and solve your problem quickly and efficiently, or slam shut the doors (and windows and blinds for good measure) and steer you in the completely wrong direction, wasting more of your time, energy, and money. Which person would you pick? I was in a unique situation needing to open a PO Box in a different state, and had been rudely dismissed at other locations that it was not possible and I would need to fly to the location to submit my ID verification in-person. This is clearly not an easy or accessible solution for the average person, especially when the USPS website states that ID verification CAN be completed remotely. These three ladies were the only ones who 1) had knowledge of the correct procedures and 2) went above and beyond to help me submit my forms through both fax AND mail to make sure the out-of-state location would have all the necessary information, as that location was also incredibly unhelpful and impossible to reach on the phone. I went to these ladies twice in one day as the other locations (that I made the mistake of visiting) gave me false information and refused to even try to help me. The ladies at this location continued to work with me even after their store closed. They tried to call the out-of-state location for over an hour (unsuccessful) and also noticed that one of my documents would expire soon, and had me send them an extra document to use as a backup to avoid any further potential delays. They also expedited the shipping of my documents as my situation was time-sensitive and needed a quick turnaround. Employees at other locations would not even blink an eye or lift a finger to help someone to this extent, even though this is when people need the advice and expertise of the postal workers the most, as we do not have the same access to USPS knowledge and resources. Post office heaven actually exists, and it’s at this DC location. If you wish to have a postal experience where you won’t be rushed or dismissed, where the fax/scanners/printers actually work, where the lines are short and move quickly, and where the employees have a complete understanding of USPS systems and processes and are more than willing to help you navigate them, this location should be your first, and final, destination. Thank you again to these three ladies, I quite literally couldn’t have done any of this without y’all!

With all these bad (and fairly old) reviews floating around, I thought I'd give my opinion on this post office. I've only been to two other post offices ever (one in NYC, and one outside of DC) and this one was essentially the same if not better than the others. I've often had to send certified mail (which I always forget how to secure to the package for whatever reason) and they are more than happy to slap the label on and/or let me know if I need to finish completing the form. I wouldn't say any one of them is overly enthusiastic about the post office itself (actually, one of the tellers is often quite nice and usually the one I get when it has been long enough for me to forget the whole certified mail label thing again) but it usually falls on the "deliver services, call next customer, deliver services" meter. Honestly, as someone who has worked in food service before I can completely relate to and appreciate the flat line approach since you get inundated with people's problems. I like this post office!

I am not sure why this USPS location has such bad ratings. Every time I go to this USPS location, I am helped promptly by the the USPS staff, who are not only courteous but super helpful. Couple times, the person helping me would tell me what my best mailing option would be, what I need to fill out, ask me whether I want insurance or express shipping (I usually mail things overseas), tell me where to get the correct packaging materials (or sometimes even walk me through the store to pick out the packaging materials for me), ask me whether I have a pen to fill things out, or whether I need tape, and so forth. It made things so much easier. And I always leave with a smile knowing that the presents I am sending to my friends/family are in good hands.

I went DC with my daughter to visit the Russian Embassy for our passports renewal. I checked online nearby businesses that we will have to visit while we are in town. This USPS store was one of them. One of the ladies that worked there that day was L'ndrea, She was very helpful and her suggestions helped me to avoid some of the mistakes I didn't know about stamps and envelopes. Thank you so much for your wonderful service!!!

I actually had a fantastic experience at a post office. It was spacious and very clean. There was a person walking around who's sole job was to make sure I knew what forms I needed and gave me all the options for mailing. She even offered to get me a pen, since they don't have them out. The clerk took care of me quickly and made sure to ask for ID since my credit card wasn't signed. Was in and out very quickly.

  • Carmen Cordoba

What a great experience! The woman who helped me (I wish I had asked her name, but her clerk ID from my receipt is 04) was patient, cheerful and funny even though my situation was taking much longer than expected. She and the rest of the employees working at that time were wonderful. What could have been a trying situation was outstanding! Thank you all so much!

This is a great post office. There are several other branches closer to my home, but I go out of my way to come to this one because the staff are friendly and helpful. Thank you to Ebony in particular! Note that the google maps location and time info is wrong — they’re at 1750 Penn (not 1700), and are open regular 9-5 hours.

Ebony and Mayra are the Queens of this Post Office! They are always kind, patient, and happy to see me whenever I walk in to this post office! I have been to several post offices in DC and this is by far the best one! Just to let everyone know, they actually close at 5pm and open from Monday to Friday!

  • Cody

Very nice lady. I had a mailing issue and she gave me numbers and directions to the other post office that could assist me. Came away actually feeling like something was accomplished!

  • Abdul Habeeb

Good location downtown. Mayra was fantastic and went above and beyond to try to find solutions to bring our shipping costs down (multiple large packages to different states).

  • Lukas Weldon

Do not answer calls, ever. Have attempted 7 times so far to find out why an express package is being held for pickup rather than delivered to my customer's home.

  • Brian Szto

Fast and smooth experience! Came here to ship some documents internationally, and Ebony helped attentively to answer my questions and get my order processed.

It's a pretty standard USPS store. Occasionally the line can be a bit long, but I've never experienced any issues.
