In August, 2022, I APPLIED & became employed (for a short time) by the US Postal Service in the Northeast, USA. I was very happy to become an "ARC" Assistant Rural Carrier. Unbeknownst to me @ the time, I was also quite ill. One week after I was told that I failed the Driver's Test, I ended up in the local Emergency Room (twice!) not due to anything the US Postal Service inflicted upon me. I was very sad to have not passed the driving test, because I was looking forward to the position. However, all in all, my driving/mirror/cone failures were the best thing for both myself & the local Post Offices! As I am just now, recuperating from a terrible tick illness. I cannot say that my training time for the US Postal Service was useless. I learned a lot about US mail, how the Postal Service works & carries out its incredible job! People complain readily about the price of stamps, the lateness of the mail & more. But, the US Postal workers that I met in the Training Courses were loyal, diligent, honest, caring & often kind. Many US Postal workers from several local areas helped me out enormously during my Training Courses. Every Postal worker I encountered during the Training Sessions were also very encouraging & helpful! US Post Office Training Centers, where I visited were exacting & somewhat like the US Military. Precise, timely & astute. They have to be! The offices where I was deeply involved & helped me throughout my Training were: Manchester, Farmington, Portsmouth, Dover, Rochester & Somersworth, New Hampshire. Instruction manuals were readily provided, guidebooks & directions. However this is not a job for the weak or faint of heart. The work is taxing, the hours are long & mail is SUPER DIRTY & VERY HEAVY! Having a sturdy pair of strong, supportive shoes is an absolute MUST! The only things that disappointed me & could use improvement upon is the amount of an new employee's personal funds required UP FRONT to accept ALL US POSTAL positions. New shoes, an upgrade in personal Auto Insurance for an ARC, due to ALL of THE LIABILITIES! while delivering US Mail, in one's own car! The cost of US POSTAL (Permanent Employees only) UNIFORMS & gasoline usage are reimbursed @ such a low rate, it's nearly ridiculous. I think gasoline rate per mile /reimbursement is SIXTY CENTS PER MILE? I mean gasoline where I reside is still over $5.00 gallon so keep the stupid .60 cents/ mile reimbursement. Send it to Ukrania if you must! for their tanks or something? Other than that the time I spent working with US Postal workers was amazing & thought provoking! Hard working, decent people trying to do a really good job, while shovelling/ delivering letters & an ENORMOUS amount of packages, against the tide. If the global corporation which ships most of those packages out, (from an Oregon based corporation) employed a CEO interested in the takeover of US Postal Services, they might just shake in their shoes. I think things might be coming to such an event? From what I saw, the overwhelming amount of mail in one day, was in fact...OVERWHELMING!! I am glad that I attempted to take on the ARC role & a bit sad that I was unable to do so. But, the work experience, overall was a good one!

The older African American male clerk with short graying hair is extremely condescending and unprofessional towards young women. After waiting in line for counter service, he told me I had to use the self-service machine to drop off a package I told him I needed a receipt, and he told me the self-service machine could do that. I used the self service machine. After answering the hazardous materials question and scanning the bar code on my package, the self-service machine told me it could not accept my package for self-service and it had to be brought to the counter to be accepted during business hours. I waited back in line to drop it off at the counter. I over heard the clerk tell another clerk that I refused to use the self-service machine, which was not true. The clerk again told me I had to use the self-service. I told him I did but it said it could not accept my package. The clerk told me that was not true and that I either made it up not to use the machine or did it incorrectly. Instead of taking my package, the clerk walked me back to the self-service machine where I did the exact same thing as before, and it did not display the error message. The clerk was extremely condescending and unprofessional repeatedly stating falsely that I made up the error message, it's never told anyone it cannot accept a package before, that I just did not want to use the self-service machine, and that I used the machine incorrectly when I did the same exact thing again. I am extremely tech savvy and have no issues using self-service machines. The level of unprofessionalism I experienced is absolutely unacceptable.

This place is the worst. Don't use it. Why you ask? Well, here's what happened to me. I dropped off a prepaid label package last week. It's still not logged in their system and I started to get concerned. The guy at the desk told me that this was the third time I had been in that office to complain. He had me mixed up with someone else and that's how it got started. Once that was cleared up I asked him how long it takes for them to scan things into the system. "It can take up to 3 to 4 business days." It takes them 4 days to log something I brought to them. Actually, now that I think about it it's still not logged in, so it could take longer. Wow, you are still reading this story. You must be bored. Try to give them a call if you made it this far. The phone number is a dead tone. Isn't that funny? Yeah you gotta laugh about it. Anyway, this post office is terrible.

DO NOT COME TO THIS POST OFFICE! I work around the corner and, unfortunately, had to use this location to mail some items. There is a male employee (African American, about 5'9, wears reading glasses, in early 60s) who is the most DISREPECTFUL and the SLOWEST employee there. I heard him rudely call a customer a foul name; he completely ignores people; he has snatched paper from me, told me I was taking too long, then proceeds to take his time messing up the shipping details. He blames the customer and has an excuse for everything. EVERYONE in my office and around the block knows not to come here. The only helpful person is the young woman who actually does work. RUN THE OTHER WAY OR WAIT IN LINE 45 MINUTES JUST TO BE DISRESPECTED. You've been warned.

  • Roman Abreu

Poor service, slow, disrespectful, makes every transaction more difficult here. As others mentioned the older African American clerk that is always here simply treats everyone (not just women) condescendingly and refuses to do his work, I have had issues in the past and today was no exception, the mailbox was full and he wouldn't simply accept the package at the counter and provide me a receipt after I was in line for 15 minutes, he preferred to try to come "to show me how to scan it" despite having a line of people behind me, such a mind blowing ridiculous situation that explains why everything is always so slow here. If he just doesn't want to work there anymore he should just quit... I simply recommend to avoid this place.

Now I know why they got 2 stars. They’re unprofessional, I showed the lady (curly hair) the QR code to scan and print a label for me. She told me go to the machine and print it for yourself and drop off. I knew machine is not for printing QR labels but I wanted to double check. I scanned my QR code from the machine and it said invalid code. After that I came back to the line, it was long line and I waited for 20 more minutes. She wanted to leave early that’s why she refused to scan and print QR code. I read a lot of reviews about the old afican-american man, yes everyone is right he is rude but believe me it is just his personality.

  • Sara Lynne Thelen

Avoid if you can. Walked in with a package prepaid for shipment from a different location. Wanted to make sure it didn't require additional postage being sent from DC instead. Man behind counter refused to acknowledge my question, continuing to insist it was prepaid and for me to leave it there. When I asked for clarification he took it personally and began talking loudly to no one in particular about how I didn't believe him. His colleague just told me it was "fine" so I left the package. Walking away now, freaked out by the aggression and still unsure whether or not it will be sent.

The worst post office I’ve ever been to. Long lines, slow service, and poor explanation of cost of services, currently in the center of a ton of surrounding construction (not the post office fault, but also not pleasant environment ). I’ve never had any issues with a usps post office before, but it stinks that this one is the closest to my apt. Person next to me is complaining right now because he was paying more than he expected when the woman charged him for tracking when he didn’t ask for it.

  • Chris Lundquist

Miserably inefficient. Constantly understaffed. Full of employees who seem to feed, like vampires, on the frustration and broken expectations of the hapless customers who thought they could complete a simple trip to the post office without having to pass through several circles of Hell. Avoid this location at all costs if it is not literally a life and death matter for you. You can come in to buy a book of stamps and be waiting for more than an hour. Just appallingly poor service all around.

  • Brett Walters

The USPS is a place, like the DMV, we only go to if there are no other alternatives. Given the times both institutions (USPS and DMV) could seriously use an update. Customer service bad, people who work there would rather not be, I would rather not be there. Can we have USPS smart dropbox locations that do not involve other human beings? Why is the UPS experience always substantially better? Questions created after having to go to the post office.

  • Mia Ives-Rublee

Staff was curt, boarding on rude. Forced me to buy a roll of tape to tape my package. Nothing was accessible if you use a wheelchair. I told them I couldn't reach the tape and they just stared at me. Another customer helped me get the tape. None of the counters are low enough so I sat there struggling to tape it closed. They told me to move away from the counter so they could help another customer rather than offer to help. It was infuriating.

  • Aviva Musicus

The staff here is helpful and friendly to a point, but there is a frustrating lack of directions about which envelopes and boxes and labels to use, leading to much confusion and time wasted at the counter, leading to really long lines. To avoid long lines, go in the morning right after it opens, or around 2:30pm. Also bring your own box and label so that when you get to the counter all they need to do is weigh it.

  • Jane L

I've never had any issues at this location, but after reading reviews I am a bit nervous to go here. I have only dropped off packages with prepaid shipping labels. I always make sure to get a receipt so that it's scanned in while I am there. I made the mistake of leaving a package w/o a receipt at another post office and the package was never tracked. So, even if it means waiting in line, always get a receipt!

  • Nicole Woo

Avoid this location. I went at 2:30 pm today and waited over 30 minutes to send a package -- by the time I left, the line was out the door. The postal worker that I interacted with, Brooke Day, was the slowest, rudest and most unhelpful person I've dealt with in a long time. I've sent packages from 4 other post offices in DC over the past 2 weeks, and this is by far the worst experience that I've had.

  • Xia Danielle

Really bad services!!! It is the first time I tried to mail something and I can't hear clearly what the staff behind the window was saying, and then he started to say, CAN you listen? CAN you read? What do you mean by that??? Now I dropped my package there and forgot to ask for the receipt. Feel sooooooo worried whether it could be delivered.

  • Aurora Munyan

I work at a downtown business and this is the closest location. They deliver mail afterhours. The staff at the location are unhelpful. When you call to find the status of a package that should have arrived 4 days ago, the phone rings and rings until it is disconnected. Fellow employees have had packages get lost once they arrive at the location.

  • Amy Swack

I had to wait on one forever, when I got to,a window they told me delivery confirmation is only available by filling out a form on a table that I would have to do and then get back in line, unlike at other post offices I've visited. The line was even longer by the time I reached the front and they had no pens to use to fill out the forms.

  • Nic Filz

A very small effort to locate (not well marked.) I'm from Western Colorado & I was pleasantly surprised (due to the negative reviews). Friendly Postal worker @ the window! They had the supplies we needed to ship items from conference. I had a very good experience there & thank you. Much more friendly than many other USPS places I've to.

  • Kira Barrett

The older male staff member was extremely rude and condescending. He got mad at me for looking up at the prices above the counter multiple times, which I did because his answers to my questions didn’t make any sense. I felt extremely uncomfortable in the store after interacting with him. If you come to this location avoid this employee!

  • Mark GETTY

Called the usps customer service line, get a useless robot, told want to talk to an agent, keeps talking about everything else but my request. Seems to me you people don’t want to help the customer, you should follow Canada example and have an actual person on the line. This is an example of total failure by the usps… shame on you!

  • Elizabeth Schick

Had a great weekday morning experience. Arrived a few minutes before nine and was let in promptly. There were about four of us waiting and the line moved quickly. The employee was really friendly and told me next time I could do the QR code label on the machine! Btw the entrance is on 14th st right below L street.

  • albert olivera

They robbed what I shipped from 4 packages and delivered the empty boxes to the buyers. I went there and they gave me a phone number to fill a claim. They are committing a crime. I’m going to do everything on my power to get the people that are doing this fire. They should be in jail for what they doing.

  • Gabrielantoniovasquez Gabriel1228

Very bad service in this usps I came today 12/24/2021 9:10 a man was already of age 60 years with a light blue sweater was asking where I could leave my stamps letter And he did not answer he only told me give me that And get out I was super Rude this is the second time it happens in this location

  • Liz McCaman Taylor

I was berated by a male employee. He called me hysterical and nasty, and interrupted me every time I tried to speak by telling me to "calm down m'aam." Only after paying for an envelope I did not use would the employee return my property, which allowed me to leave. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

  • Camila Rivera

The man in the counter refused to attended me after I couldn’t understand what he was saying through the glass. Then he asked to another employee to answer my questions and as a result my package (which supposed to go to California) was delivered back to my house in DC.

  • Charlie Leu

Hit or miss. Some of the clerks are professional and very helpful, some are just angry waiting to happen. PSA to the employees in this location: Try to lower your voice in the back room if you’re going to talk trash about your customers because the walls are very thin.

  • yonathan mejias

The only older gentleman who is always in the box is the worst. he is uneducated, he treats young people very bad just for asking him some questions about shipping. he responds badly and rudely.. he should change it and not put it in customer service. thank you

  • J

Do you wanna be belittled by the man behind the counter for not knowing what you should use and asking a question? Come to this location! This happens to me without fail every time he is working. Older black guy with glasses, I am talking about you!

  • Valerie Cooper

The details of my experience are too long to go into on this review. Just take every single negative review to heart. It is the truth. The staff are rude and unprofessional and don't care at all about customer service. Take your business elsewhere.

  • N

Long lines and very unhelpful staff. There was an issue with my package from their side, I already went there 5 times for refund. I was able to talk to their manager once, he said he will call me back but he never did. I'm still waiting...

  • Patrick Cage

Courteous efficient generous and helpful staff. Clearly trying hard, either because or in spite of negative reviews. I was nervous about the experience because of the rating beforehand. Was better than most post office experiences even tbh

  • Luis Olivera

In this store workers are committing a crime beside being extremely rude. They have bad reviews for a reason. They are stealing packages and delivering empty boxes. Do not use this location.

  • Jordan Craig

Long lines and very dirty. I’ve tried to come at different times and the line is always at the door. It would also be nice if they swept the floor and straightened up labels for shipping.

  • Carlo Gavino

attendees and staff were quite nice and pleasant. i witnessed other interactions of customers asking questions while i was in line and everything was helped and questions were answered.

  • Tessa Carelli

Always open late. Lady is rude. They are understaffed but it’s no excuse for how they treat people. This usps should be taken over by someone else who can run it properly.

  • Debora Silva

Poor service, I'm an English student and I'm in progress, I was very poorly attended by an elderly man who works here, I told him he's very rude and didn't respect me!

  • Rose Lang-Maso

Was openly disrespected and ridiculed by Walter, a “customer service” worker, who is seemingly described below by numerous posters. Completely unacceptable treatment.

  • Jorge M

Just mailed a couple of things and had a great experience. The clerk was very polite and informative and I was out of there in a couple of minutes.

  • Jessyca Livingston

Gotta be the slowest and worst post office in dc with the most unfriendly staff. Don’t go here unless you want to wait for in line forever.

  • Ibeth P.

My experiences have always been the best. The staff is always willing to answer my questions. Very diligent and clean place as well.

  • Mark Hernandez

They force you to package you box yourself and fill out all the forms. Then charge you $80 for what? Doing nothing?

  • Robert Proudfoot

There is no sign for the Post office. There are no outdoor markings. The self service shipping kiosk did not work.

  • Madeline Beaudry

Probably the worst post office in the country, the employees are so rude for absolutely no reason

  • Mr. Kevin

Extremely slow. There were definitely 2 employees, but only one was working for whatever reason.

  • Ryan Kellett

Generally not the most efficient of places but often the kiosk at the font is free, so use that.

  • G. D.

Service with an Attitude from older male employee. Not helpful at all and is confused.

  • Y M

The employee processed my package shipping was super rude and very unprofessional

  • Tom Hennig

Long lines at lunch and after work, but the staff helped answer some questions.

  • Dora Lobo

Apart from the expected long lines and rudeness, gave me wrong tracking number

  • Oren Kessler

No lines, good service when I went (though it was a weekday afternoon)

  • Joel Galatas

Completely dysfunctional. Go to UPS store two blocks away if you can.

  • Kumiko Matsui

there was no information on the website but it was closed

  • Amelia

Staff is verbally aggressive (older man behind counter)
