Is it possible to give negative stars because I think even 1 star is too generous. After waiting in line to use the automated machine to send my priority package, the size envelope I had selected was not an option on the machine, so I had to go wait in the line to have an employee help me. I waited in line for 38 minutes, witnessed not 1, but 2 arguments between frustrated customers and the only 2 employees that were working, and then was yelled at by an employee when I asked why the machine didn't have my selected envelope size. She yelled at me again when I mentioned that the price she quoted me did not match the sign below the envelope I had selected. In total, I was in the post office for 50 minutes to mail one package and paid the same price that I would have if I had gone to UPS. In general, they are wildly understaffed at this location, perhaps consequently, are incredibly stressed and rude.

As everyone else has noted, the staff here is very unfriendly and service is very slow. It's a shame since it is used not only by federal employees and nearby office workers, but also by tourists, many from foreign countries. You'd think the US Postal Service could at least put its best foot forward in the historic post office within the old Post Office Department headquarters on Pennsylvania Avenue, America's Main Street. Or sadly, maybe this is its best foot. Despite the fact that there are PO Boxes there, there is no access after 5, or on weekends or Federal Holidays. (Also note, this is NOT in the Old Post Office Pavilion. This is part of the Federal Triangle office buildings surrounding Federal Triangle Metro Station, with the entrance on Pennsylvania Avenue at the SW corner of the intersection with 12th Street.)

Booked an appointment for passport photos online days in advance. Was told when I got there that the “agent” was at their Brentwood location half an hour away by Metro and that I had to go there instead. Why did they even let me book the appointment if the guy was never going to be there? Disgusting waste of people’s time UPDATE: Went to their Brentwood branch. Surprise, surprise, their camera wasn’t working so they told me to go to UPS instead. Absolutely embarrassing. This is a service you’re supposed to be providing, not the freaking lottery. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere in the future, but please for the sake of others who will undoubtedly be in my position going forward, get your act together USPS!

Just a walk-in to send a package across the continent (being an international visitor very unaccustomed to the USPS), found a flat pack priority shipping box (guessed the right size and packed the articles I was sending) that was included along with insurance in the shipping cost, and then encountered a really helpful employee on the counter who helped me tape up the box (rather than sending me to go and buy an entire roll of tape that I’d only have used a couple of strips of for this one box, as some folks might have) and took all the necessary to get it sent. If there’s a single THE post office in the capital, this might well be it, and I wasn’t disappointed - will be back with postcards to send!!

I booked 4 passport appointments for my family a few days ahead of time. When we arrived, the gentleman (I believe his name was Van R.) upfront asked if we were here for passports and asked us to wait amount while he took care of another group. Shortly thereafter, he took care of our family. Everything went very smoothly and he was super helpful and pleasant. While we were waiting, my toddler needed to use the potty and he’s new to wearing underwear. When the woman working upfront realized it was my toddler that needed to go, she was kind enough to let us use the employee bathroom in the back and avoid an accident. We were very grateful! We had a great experience.

Why after working on Post Office trucks in South Jersey, the people working on these vehicles are not getting paid. There is a digit code they have to use and it keeps getting denied, and you have to keep resubmitting it till it goes thru. Can someone find the problem? You expect these workers to fix your 40 year old trucks and not get paid, beside not suppling parts to fix them. No wonder people are complaining about the service when there is not enough working trucks to go around this South Jersey area, and the mail carriers have no trucks to deliver the mail I can't wait to hear this excuse.

I attempted to get a passport here 3 times in a row. Honestly embarrassed that I let that happen to me, have no idea if all USPS are this difficult to get a passport at but with a full time job, 3 weeks has gone by and so has my window to get a passport so now I have to go to the urgent passport office. At this point I would recommend anyone getting a passport in d.c. to just wait until it’s absolutely necessary and then go to the Washington Post Office. The people here are rude and the agent is never in the office — i’d question whether or not the agent actually exists.

I stood in line for over 10 minutes waiting on just a stamp and envelop. There was three people working. I was told only one person could accept my payment method . The person who could accept my payment was working on another task. There’s no way I should’ve waited that long. There could have been another way to solve this so that someone isn’t standing that long just waiting. There was no interest in even helping me get what I needed. No urge whatsoever. I eventually just walked out. Really bad for business.

Good location for those working in and around the Federal Triangle area. There are usually very long lines to get service. The overworked employees are rushed, which leads to average to lie customer service. I primarily use this location to drop off envelopes and packages for delivery, and to purchase postage from the automated machine. Unfortunately there is only one such machine, so there can be a wait. This building has some interesting architectural details and murals.

This is a full-service Post Office. The staff patiently answered my questions before posting my package. I went during lunch hour and was in and out in 15 minutes. The entrance to this Post Office is very nondescript, but it is right on Pennsylvania...and it is NOT the old Post Office Pavilion building. Also, the Google street view is misleading: to find the entrance, continue walking toward 14th St. Cross over 12th St. and it will be on your left.

Ms. Reid is the rudest employee I have encountered so far. Completely unhelpful, even after my husband asked for her help directly to set an appointment because HE IS BLIND. Nobody else was at the office and she refused to help, when my husband complained, she proceeded to call him "ignorant" said "I just work here I am not here to deal with you or listen to you", "shut up" and basically kicked him out. Pathetic costumer service if you ask me.

AVOID THIS PLACE IF POSSIBLE. If I could give zero stars, I would. The "workers" here are mean, angry, unhelpful. The workers act as though they are not there to help people - they bark at anyone who has the slightest question and are unhelpful, caustic, rude. I have a PO Box here and I have seen so many terrible interactions...use another USPS if you can, this one has the worst workers I have seen in any city.

  • Captain National Express

It's an fabolus area to place many mails in the delivery service. When it comes to create something important, they cna make it, when they want to send the products in the mail, they can take it to the dilivery service where they can assists them to have many solution to be in the decent times. This is one of the largest places in the district arena. Sure it is the option for the deivery event,

I USE THIS LOCATION ALL THE TIME AND HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM OUT OF THE EMPLOYEES OR THE SERVICE, IT SOUNDS TO ME THAT SOME OF THE PEOPLE WITH NEGATIVE COMMENTS WANTS SOMEONE TO CATER TO THEM LIKE THEY ARE ENTITLED, IF YOU DON'T LIKE THE SERVICE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE ITS NOT A HARD THING TO FIGURE OUT, I WONDER WHAT PEOPLE WOULD SAY ABOUT SOME OF THESE COMPLAINERS WORK HABITS

  • Aesah Lew

I called to ask for a passport appointment and the clerk was mumbling so I asked her to repeat herself. She continued to mumble and when I asked her again, she raised her voice and yelled at me for not hearing her. She wasn't mildly annoyed, she yelled into the phone. I will definitely not be going to this location and if you want to have a good day, you shouldn't either.

  • Tomas Nilsson

Very rude and unfriendly. Asked for help to send a package internationally but was referred to the self-help desk. Explained that I'm a foreigner and would really appreciate some help. Still refused to help and already started talking to somebody else. Ended up going to FedEx on 11th St. It cost a little more but I got all the help I needed and they were very friendly.

  • Madeline Beaudry

This post office is so nice. The employees are friendly, the flat rate boxes and envelopes are well stocked, and they actually have pens you can use. The employees don’t seem angry that they have to interact with you like certain other dc post offices I could mention (cough 14th st cough)

  • Aaron

Workers are unfriendly, borderline rude, and I always have my stuff in order. God forbid you need to ask some questions. The place looks like it's in a constant state of renovation. Half the space is essentially unused. Why would they hang the pricing info behind a post?

  • Jamie Fallowfield

I usually love this location, isn't usually too busy (it has its days) and I am usually served by a kind employee, but today was not that day. I made a passport photo appointment, took time out of my day to walk over there, to find out the

  • LEE WOOLSON

The postal workers were great they helped us out gave us all the options we needed part of the entrance is in door to the entrance of the building needs to be repaired the entire doors need to be fixed and if you signs need to be put.

  • Mona CD

The customer service here is rude and unfriendly. At the end of my appointment, I asked a simple confirmation question about my materials and the staff asked me if I listened to anything she said. Avoid this location if possible.

  • Russell Keske

Loved this older post office building located near the White House and many other monuments. I needed to buy a few stamps and the clerks were patient and quick in fulfilling my request! Will come again if needed!

  • Larry Beaman

I love this post office! It’s clean, fast, and the service from the staff is amazing. I previously went to the location at 14th and U and the service is terrible there. I walk twice as far to go to this location.

  • Sam B

The building is nice, quiet, and clean. The post office itself is fully stocked and the workers are nice and helpful. I think some of y'all just hate going to the post office...

  • Sunehri Singh

staff member MAKEDA is obnoxious and rude, has some type of old world black inferiority complex. was completely ignorant of how to assist customers. disgusted by her behavior.

  • Moksh Sharma

Surprisingly good! I'm not privy to the rest of the staff, but Ms. Goff was quick, courteous and very polite and made the tiresome process of mailing a seamless experience.

  • Tatiana Kutlybaeva

The customer service rep refused to help and or provide instructions on self service machine. I wish people like that were not in customer service. Shameful, just shameful…

  • Jason Coker

Don't waste your time here unless you're dropping a letter off. Even then I quotient do anything off here or get anything done. They really need to close this place down.

  • Pai Diallo

I would give 0 stars if possible. The lady working at the desk was extremly rude, I have no idea what her issue was but I am not coming back to this one

  • Ben LNU

Small location. Inconsistent service quality and speed - just leave if it's busy. Interesting historic building but not particularly accessible.

  • Snickers

Staff is always SO rude, you dare not ask a question. Such a shame too, since the location is convenient. (been coming here 2 years)

  • Orest Schur

This is a USPS in a very nice old building and I love this location. Visited it twice and both time I had a great experience.

  • Thoai Le

The place is not cleaned and unorganized. However it is so convenient and competitive in pricing with other postal services.

  • Ryan Shepard

Staff are unfriendly, bordering on hostile, but in the post office desert downtown, this is your only option.

  • joe fig

Almost always a long line and one or two staff at work. Why can't they add another self-service machine?

  • Jeff B

Rude staff and unable to actually do what a post office is supposed to do. Not even sure why it exists.

  • Mike D

In and out very quickly with great service. The place was clean and they had the supplies I needed.

  • Alexander Ellis

Perfectly fine post office. The negative reviews are misguided. my experience was quick and easy.

  • Tebriz Nebiyev

  • Catherine Terilli

Long line, but moved quickly and workers were helpful / knowledgeable.

  • Michael Simons
